Hey /gee/ I got a Samsung for my gramma, what apps do you recommend for old people who have never owned a smartphone before?

Just teach her how to call somebody, how to save contacts, how to open the dial and how to check the messages and what's what.
Remove everything useless from the home screen (things she'll never use).
I've done this for my granny and she was really happy for it, finally someone understood that tech for old people is not so easy as we think it is.
Backstory: Her daughter got her a smartphone but didn't explain shit to gran, next day gran called me crying on her old phone that she needs help with the phone. She was born in 44

Go to settings and enable a thing called simple mode or something, it really helps my abuela focusing in finding whatsapp or contacts.

anon there is a launcher made for old people that has a simplified (and big) interface

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wiser.home

however teaching the person how to call and send/check messages might be easier

Get her a nice selfie app like FaceTune
