If you want help:
>State the budget & CURRENCY for your build
>List your uses, e.g. Gaming, Video Editing, VM Work
>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)

CPUs:
>NO i5 7500/7600K or i7 7700/K. THEY ARE DEFUNCT AND SUPERSEDED BY COFFEE LAKE
>G4560/G4600 - non-gaming (light tasks) or bare minimum gaming builds with a dedicated graphics card
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (best with OC + fast RAM)
>R5 1600 / i5 8400 - Great gaming (especially the i5 8400) or multithreaded use CPUs (especially the R5 1600)
>R7 / Used Xeon / Threadripper / i7 - Heavy Multi-Tasking / VM Work / Mixed use

RAM:
>Current CPUs benefit from high speed RAM; 3000-3200 MHz is ideal
>Before buying RAM for Ryzen, check your Mobo's QVL or look for user reports

Graphics cards:
>Consider Vega 56 for a Freesync monitor
>Crypto-Currency miners have driven GPU prices up (particularly Radeon)
1080p
>MSRP of standard 1080p cards: 1050Ti, 140USD; 1060 3GB, $200; 1060 6GB, $230; RX 570 4GB, $170; RX 580 4GB, $200
>GTX 1070 if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
1440p
>GTX 1070/Ti and 1080 are standard choices; currently overpriced
>GTX 1080Ti if you're looking for very high (100+) framerates and you have a CPU and monitor to match
2160p (4K)
>GTX 1080Ti

General:
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING
>A 240GB or larger SSD is almost mandatory; consider m.2 form factor

Yo I got a problem.

I think my gpu might be dead but I'm not sure.

I got a refurbished, never used 970 the other day.
left it testing with furmark for like 10 minutes and had no problems, but today I tried firing up pubg and my video crashed like 2 minutes into the game.
it went:
>loud audio glitch (the one where the last sound that was being output is repeated a bunch of times in a second)
>blank screen, either black or the dominant color of my last screen.

then it either keeps the audio going, or just no audio as well.

the thing that is giving me pause is, I had a similar problem with another refurbished 970, but that one crashed instantly when I fired up Furmark, while this one goes on smooth sailing for as long as I leave it.

Could it be something else?
my power supply isnt the best, but it's not complete trash (vs550).
maybe my outlet is not feeding good current?

should I try some other benchmark like unigine valley?

you guys told me building pc was like lego. FUCK YOU IT WAS HARD AND CONFUSING AS FUCK. I spent a whole week trying to build this shit. I broke my ram when i tried to install it and when i installed the newly bought ram it didn't feel tight. best buy dude told me the motherboard was also broken because i didn't install my previous ram right. I have a AMD Rx 580 and used a shitty and fx something 8 core processor. I want to upgrade the CPU.
I use my PC for gaming (Arma3, PUBG are the most CPU intensive games I play I think), occasional rendering (blender) and like to run at least game+music+discord+some other smaller services.

What CPU should I get? What's overkill with the gpu? I don't really have a budget, I'm flexible but as long as the mentioned games and programs work fine and it can handle some stuff that'll be released, I'm happy.

Intel for games? Or Ryzen for power/price? Which ones would you recommend?
(I'll need a new MoBo, I know that, but I'll need one for both Ryzen and Intel so I'm flexible)
>>
Quick I need to pull the trigger now:

Should I sacrifice RBG led header, more power phasers and 30$ for an Asus motherboard instead of a MSI one? The MSI is perfect for my need but its an msi and I head lots of bad things about it. I don't need rgb right now but may regret it in the future.

You open your Bios or Ryzen master, set 1.3V and probably 3800mhz, then go up or down on frequency, not going over 1.35V for daily use.

Plus we know Ryzen+ is coming soon with what should be 4.5ghz average OCs. I wouldn't spend too much on a current Ryzen chip, maybe even just get the R5 1400 for now

It’ll be at least a couple months (read: tax season) before I buy the cpu mobo and ram I have everything else. But will Ryzen+ work well with x370? Or will I have to wait for new boards too? Also as long as I’m getting 100 frames or more I’d be happy.

What's the upgrade path for this? Should I go with R5 1600 in april when AMD cuts the price first? It's the only one I can think about now since RAM and graphics cards are crazy expensive now.

How many extra SATA cables did you guys buy for your builds? Or did you only get SATA cable extensions for easier cable managment

have never bought any sata cables, motherboards have always provided enough.

I guess it all depends on the case and components you buy

Should I grab this?

again, case is placeholder
again, I'd upgrade to 850 evo ssd
although zotac has gotten a lot of praise lately, I've personally had problems with them, so I'd pay the extra for a main brand dual fan 1060 6gb

Something like this
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GGmBf8
I switched to 580 8gb because it's AMD's 1060 6gb and it had the cheapest dual fan of the two.

Also, always manually check all the prices in all the european options, I saved like 100 on my build by ordering from three different regions. It might be a waste of time but if you find a way to save money by only doing 15 minutes of checking it's worth it.

For example, you could upgrade to 3200 ram for 4€ extra if you order it from france (unless there's shipping costs of course)

I couldn't find a cheaper good tier PSU in UK but check the other regions

I just want to upgrade from pic related. This thing can only play half life one and I want something that can run HL2 at medium at least.

Also about pic related:
-can run Photoshop 7 and SAI without issue
-browse the internet but lags when viewing any video above 480p and browsing twitter
-can only run windows movie maker
-unable to run blender or the oldest version of 3dsmax and maya
-Plays warcraft 3, epxse, AOE2, Half life one w/o issue but struggles with anything newer than 2002 like pain killer and aftermentioned HL2 even on low
-lags on every 3DS emulator
-No issue with winkawaks, snes or later emus even on boosted

So I hope the upgrade can do a better job than this thing.

That's an actual brand of motherboard from MSI.
I.E. MSI - Z270 Tomahawk Mobo
The PC specs aren't bad, you won't be able to really update the CPU without replacing the mobo, but if you're gaming at 1080 60hz, 144hz, or 1440 and possibly low end 4k you'll be fine.
Just depends what your needs are, that machine is fine for gayming.
Just don't pay out the ass for it.

If that 2600k is overclocked, you are probably completely fine for 1080p.

Not that much better desu, the Ryzen 5 1600 looks pretty good. As with any cpu just look up some benchmarks in actual games and decide if it's worth it. For anything multicore (ie not games) amd shreds intel.

i have the 4690k haswell cpu similar to yours. its still more than good enough for like 95% of games out there, especially when overclocked.

buy an ssd for a snappier system, get an extra 8gb ram and get something like a gtx 1060 if you can find one at an affordable price or if not you can always get a used 970 or something. that's literally what i did (with the exception of getting a 1070 instead of 970 or 1060).

i5 6500 cpu just died lads, i need another one soon. Any cpus out there for gaming that arent poZZed?

If they've already declared bankruptcy, they won't necessarily have to honor any current orders. At least, that's my understanding.
>>
>>64294693
Eh real talk you probably won't need to.
That build should be able to play any game that comes out in the next x number of years.
My i3-2100 with an HD 5770 hast lasted me 6 years, granted about 2-3 years ago games started releasing I can't run on low. So your setup should be golden till you want to build/buy a new pc in 4-6 years.
>>
>>64294946
Even if Nvidia releases Volta all the miners will buy it unless Nvidia gimps their consumer Volta GPUs at mining (Protip: They already are doing this with Pascal) and they have made mining-specific cards for miners.

Then these mining cards will easily run out and miners will keep buying GPUs even if Nvidia gimps them.
>>
>>64293903
>>64293962
Oh no, its vastly superior to what you have now. Just keep in mind the option to spend another $100-150 in the future to have vastly superior graphics performance.
>>
>>64294449
It's a multimedia laptop. I don't even need a gamer laptop, but I am on the road often and sometimes I need to do some 3D modeling or image processing, so a dedicated graphics card would be nice.
>>
>>64294185
Its getting to the point where i think Gaming Laptops could be the last hope for PC gaming, simply because miners can't canalise the GPUs integrated onto the board.
>>
>>64295361
How about the XPS 15, those have a 1050M which can play practically any modern game at 1080p with med-low settings and toned down AA
>>
>>64295408
Oh and a battery life of between 7-10 hours depending on usage.
>>
>>64295382
The gaming industry is yuge.

If gamers can't buy GPUs they won't buy processors, HDDs, SSDs, monitors, cases, peripherals, PSUs and even games themselves. If games don't sell dev profits go down.

The other parts of the ecosystem will pressure both AMD and Nvidia into submission. I'm sure mining cards are coming soon but like newer cards they'll be sold out too.

Hi all,

I'm considering buying my first pc (GTX 1060 and a i5-7600k) but I'm already looking at a 1200+€ bill (I don't have a monitor and I'll buy a legit W10), and I've seen experience in picking parts. So I'm struggling to bite the pill and not go with a ps4 pro.

What do ?

Given your apparent inability to read the OP, I'd recommend going with the ps4.

GPU's are really expensive right now because of miners. Don't even bother building a PC now unless you don't need a GPU or don't care about paying 3 times the regular price.

Buying Vega 64s at near MSRP, sell at $1K or more. Money's not in mining but in selling miners what they need to mine, same as it was in the 19th Century.

1TB HDD (no brand named)
mobo is ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming ITX/ac
PSU is 700W (be quiet! PURE POWER 10 CM) (the only part which concerns me a bit)

price is $1600

If you have doubts that the software you're using properly supports Quadro cards, it's a MUCH better idea to get something like a 1060 or 1070. I'm not memeing.

This is /pcbg/ so we're going to suggest you build your own. Also, beQuiet PSUs are alright.

Seems a bit on the expensive side but yeah go for it, 16gb ram and a 1080 probably cost 700 bucks already when you buy them now.
>>
>>64296366
Honestly that's a good idea, I enjoy mining but I'm not stupid enough to shell out hundreds of dollars above msrp for a graphics card, simply because I don't need the money I gain from this. This is just a nice thing to have, plus I like supporting the networks for coins/systems that I like, like Zencash, or for scientific research. And computers are just fun to build and maintain.

The people who are in this solely for profits are the ones getting burned the most, so hopefully people like you make them leave quicker. It's tiresome having to see crypto currencies being talked about in the context of "MAAAD GAINZ YO, WE'RE GONNA BE MILLION-AIRES!!"

I see this especially in older guys who don't know jack shit about PC's, and want to make millions by next month. Hopefully they all get scared and leave.

You can buy a R5 1600 and a B350 board combo for ~250 on Microcenter and put the rest of the money somewhere else.
My 1600 overclocked easily to 3.75 GHz slightly above stock voltage using the free stock cooler that came in the box and never reaches above 60 ºC while gayming (~30 ºC room temperature).

Help guys

I wanted to test if my RAM was faulty by installing it in my Dad's computer.

Turned his computer off, unplugged the psu, removed his RAM and installed mine. Turned his computer on and it just kept boot looping over and over with no chance of getting into the BIOS. So I turned it off again, unplugged the psu and reinstalled his original working RAM, and it's still boot looping.

The RAM he has is one stick of 16gb corsair vengeance lpx 3000mhz, I installed two 8gb sticks of corsair vengeance lpx 3200mhz. The mobo is an Asrock Taichi X370. I'm getting the debug code 46 on the mobo.

I've tried removing the ram and resetting the cmos and it still isn't booting.

Any ideas?

You really benefit from higher RAM speed on Ryzen.
Try to aim for 2666 or more and then overclock the memory.

Would have liked to post this in a speccy thread but one isn't up. Built this back in late 2011. Now it was working pretty wonderful gaming rise back then, but maybe about a year ago my video card crapped out and I went on the cheap to get a replacement.

Now I've got some dough together I think I can upgrade this literal dogshit card and get something good. $500 leafbux is my limit, can someone recommend me something?
>>
>>64297050
Buy a cooler and a GTX 1060, overlock your i7 to 4.5 GHz+ and then save money for when DDR5 becomes mainstream.
No point in building a whole now system with only $500 with DDR4 and GPU prices right now.
>>

Wasn't planning on building a whole new system. Say if I do buy the GTX 1060, will I be able to run something like PUBG or Arma 3 with a reasonable frame rate and texture quality?

I have the 6 GB 1060 and can run PUBG with everything on high at 1080p at a stable 80 FPS.

Ebay obviously, but also amazon marketplace and (trustworthy) keyshops. I even got a local refurb shop to give me a key for 1€ because they buy them in thousands and literally make their money back selling them for normal price to normies in one week.

GTA V is not a new game and you'll be able to run it on the 150€ Ryzen APU that's coming in the next few weeks, unless of course you comfortably want more than 60fps and 1080p.

Ryzen 5 1600, B350 mATX mobo, 16gb ram, 550W Seasonic PSU, case idgaf and with your leftovers try and get a GPU that's at least a RX570 or GTX1060.
>>
All of my parts are coming today except for the PSU and GPU, which will arrive on Wednesday.

Is there any harm in starting to put together everything I have so far, then plug those in when they get here? Or should I just wait to do it all at once. As far as I know, the PSU and GPU are normally done near the end.
