>>
>>64290094
I have a solution to this. AMD and Nvidia should release cards for mining and disable stuff that benefits miners in gaming cards. Everyone wins. Gamers can still play their gaymes and miners can still mine. Why can't miners use ASICs like the Antminer? I understand they are looking for the least expensive option to make the most money, but they should understand why gamers don't like them. If gamers can't buy high end graphics cards then how can they get high end monitors? This will not only affect gamers buy manufacturers that make large monitors.

> Why can't miners use ASICs like the Antminer?
Because the new coins are designed in such a way where ASICs can’t be used like they where in bitcoin
It does beg the question why not just have Mining GPUs in an ant miner form factor you know a form factor that Makes sense for mining instead of using PCI express cards

PC gaming is officially dead. At least for self built PCs. Most pre-builts arnt safe, i've heard cryptos are starting to buy pre-build gaming PCs wholesale and ripping the GPUs out of them

Looks like AIO type computers, Ultra small form factor with GPU-on-board (Gaming laptop without screen) Gaming Laptops and maybe even APUs are the future, that is unless the situation gets so dire... cloud gaming becomes necessary.

So you have no intention to cash out while it's hot, you'd rather keep waiting until it's hotter. With that mindset only one of the two could happen:
>it starts dropping, you hope for rebound to sell better, it doesn't comes as good as you wanted so you hold, it plummets, you sell at pitiful rates
>it keeps going up so you hold forever
Either way there is no actual cash for you.

I don't really get mining, unless you're a whale who owns a warehouse, wouldn't it be easier to just invest that money in the market instead of buying computer parts? If you're investing, you get to keep that money and make more. If you mine, you're investing in hardware which depreciates quickly due to thermal stress.

Nvidia's cards already have crippled compute power, people just started using them because there weren't any AMD ones available. It would be suicide for AMD to cripple compute in their cards, it's a huge selling point that their GPU's aren't as segmented as Nvidia. .

Can't get enough of this mining craze.
The thing is, you must buy at launch.
Bought 2x Rx480 @ launch for 250€ each.
Worked great for a few games @4K.
Once games are done, plug back 7970 and mine for 6 month with cards.
Buy Vega @ launch for 620€.
It's globally shit compared to crossfire rx480s and pricer.
Put it to mining almost immediately and get 1080Ti instead.

Now, you may say I've spent more than I got in imaginary moneyz. But my 95MH/s of AMD spaceheater is savings on my heating bill too.

>>64299335
Market cap is a total bullshit number, all market cap does it take the amount of the crypto in existence and multiply that by the current price per unit.

If a thousand people bought a BTC for $1, BTC has a market cap of a thousand dollars.
If one guy comes in and buys 50 BTC for $10, the market price would inflate to some number between $1 and $10 based on speculation and hype.
There's $1500 actual cash in the system, but the market is now valued at 1050 * (arbitrary value). Even at a market price of $2 per BTC, that's now $2100 of "market cap" with a system deficit of $600. Now people might sell their bitcoin because the price went up, and you buy BTC at $2. Now you're one of a thousand people holding $2 bitcoin, but the valuation needs to double to $4 for the same sell trigger. Repeat ad nauseum.

This is a ponzi system. The entire purpose transfers wealth to the people who had the thing before You bought into it. Nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>64299460
The sad truth that no one will tell you is there's no such thing as a "mining card." ASICs killed Bitcoin mining but most new altcoins are ASIC-proof. Nvidia already gimped their compute power with Keplar, they can't gimp it anymore. Even if mining cards did exist, no one would buy them since gaming GPU's have resale value.
>>

There is no investment that is completely liquid, not even you bank account is completely liquid. The West is on the verge of a banking collapse right now similar to 2007 thanks to banks not learning theri lesson. Australia is in a huge housing bubble that will likely collapse their entire housing market. Some banks are so scared that they've started banning crypto transactions because they're afraid of too many people taking money out of their accounts and investing, which would likely cause the banks to default since they don't actually have any money.

because the stuff that benefits miners in gaming cards is their basic functionality

an GPU contains thousands of little CPUs that are excellent at processing math - something that is useful for coin mining. if you want to tweak it against buttcoin mining, at least you'll be crippling shaders and physics calculation (if game uses GPU for physics)
>>
>>64301168
If you had a few million in cash today, you could buy a piece of land, a house, and set yourself up for life, barring a complete societal collapse (in which case, bitcoin or conventional currency, your life is fucked). If you have a few million in bitcoin today, could you do the same?
>>
>>64301240
> If you have a few million in bitcoin today, could you do the same?
Yes? You can cash out at any time. You have to go slowly, like any other stock, since trying to cash out at the same time eats up buy orders and can cause a small flash crash, but you can cash out either way. Either way investing in a house and land right now is retarded, like I said we're in the middle of a huge housing babble.

Because in order to make sure that PoW can't be controlled, it's much better to make sure that prohibitively expensive hardware with very high hashrates such as ASICs and FPGAs can't be applied to the underlying cryptography and that the best you can do is use commodity hardware.
