What do you hope for? There are faggots on YouTube that retro luddites like, for example "PhilsComputerLab" and he actually calls GeForce 570's "retro".

Thanks!

I also have a Armada 110, but I ghetto rigged some more powerful speakers (the internal ones sounded like shit) and it looks a bit ugly.

That one runs vanilla 98SE though, and has a 10GB drive. Upside of it though, is it literally uses a desktop CPU, so I've been able to use a 1GHz Coppermine P3. (it won't accept Tualatins, found out the hard way...)

I don't think he calls the card itself retro, but it's suitable for a system that is retro. When you want to run older XP games that don't always run well on 7-10. A bit like how people use GeForce 4 and Fx cards on systems running Windows 98.
>>
>>64298091
>I don't think he calls the card itself retro, but it's suitable for a system that is retro.
No PCIe system is retro
This is even worse

he calls the card itself retro too though, even when he mostly imples it as a card for retro gaming

A system would include the software the way I used it. Retro simply means something of the past. There is no clear line between what's retro and what isn't retro. Even brand spanking new, with an old style can be called retro (new cars styled like older models, brand new mini ITX systems in Commodore 64-like cases) due to being styled like something old.

The way some people here gets pissy about someones usage of the word retro is pretty lame. Then again, not being able to understand what people mean when they say things is a sign of autism.

>>64298219
If you would actually read the thread, you'd see people aren't very happy about Pentium 4's and C2D's being introduced here and elsewhere as "retro"
Some people here used to be in the hobby for decades before now suddenly everything older than a few years is retro and everybody has to post pictures about their "retro" C2D systems and jerk off to them like the hipsters most are
>>
>>64298219
>Even brand spanking new, with an old style can be called retro (new cars styled like older models, brand new mini ITX systems in Commodore 64-like cases) due to being styled like something old.
yup

you don't think actual people who know their shit buy those ITX systems in Commodore 64 like cases, do you? no, it's all about the retro craze

Haven't gone to a "retro general" here in a while, so I don't know if they're posting C2D systems or not, but I do see them around in guts threads and vogons, but their owners usually don't claim they're retro from what I've seen. They're usually their daily driver that they have no reason to upgrade from, that or they refuse to admit they're poor and cannot afford to upgrade. If it weren't for games, I could still use my C2D also.

>>64298315

I fucked with the ram slots. All three modules are OK, but I moved them slightly and now they don't make as good as contact, so I'm getting freezes. Will pass an eraser on the contacts and grind the slots next week.
Next thing I have to inspect the CPU and apply new paste, not because it needs it but because I want to finally know if the motherfucker who assembled the computer left the part number sticker over it.
I also need to recap the whole mobo because of capacitor plague. Will try to cheat and solder on the old wires.

Why go to the grocery store and get ingredients to make a really nice burger on the grill if you can go to mcdicks and get 8 mediocre hamburgers for a few bucks?
Why hunt for era machines and parts for an original dos experience if you can just buy an optiplex with a core2duo?

We also have this now:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3DU2mNBa6M

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPVqAvgGbWo

But this is only a OPL2. Sure, basically you could hook any ISA card up to the parallel port as it's basically the same 8-bit data bus like ISA itself is.
Still not worth it in the long run if you ask me, just throw in a few more bucks and have patience and you can get a much better DOS gaming machine than a C2D.

It seems like it was designed by a color blind person in paint. The monochrome, sometimes not even filled icons simply don't look good and don't provide the same easy usability as the older, colorful ones.
The design is a mess and it's partially the fault of metro apps. Since they can't use the normal window controls, MS had to make the Win32 ones look like the flat, minimalist garbage as well.
The difference is that old OSs had clearly visible and understandable controls, a button was literally a 3D button that you could press down. With Win10 everything was turned into extreme flatness so often you're not even aware what a button is and what just a label

Depends on what newer games you want to play. A lower end Geforce 4 or 5 should be fine for almost everything until 2002 and not expensive. ATI cards from that time often had crappy unstable drivers.
Some older, really early 3D games only support a 3dfx GPU for acceleration, but those are collectors garbage now. There are some software emulators for other GPUs but they aren't perfect.

It's just win10 with lots of shit broken and some really dirty hacks to disable aero.
>>
>>64319346
well to be fair that would make it x1000 better. win10s retarded looking GUI is the worst. the 9x series had the best GUIs. simple, minimalist, and charming.

>aero
>windows 10
it just uses a really shitty theme running on dwm, that's as much as it has common with aero

>>
>>64319366
DWM is just a part of aero, but let's not fight over definitions
But MS really went full retard with the metro apps garbage, they even implemented the forced "basic video" driver that can emulate DX just because without it the crappy apps wouldn't work at all
>>
>>64319366
>shitty theme running on dwm
I would say this is pretty much all it is as Windows 10 (maybe even 8?) have pretty much gotten rid of any true windows classic theme, anything that attempts to make win10 looks like classic is just a cheap hack
>>
>>64319389
>i'm wrong but let's not fight
DWM was created to run Aero (for rendering the glass effect) because before that Windows didn't have hardware acceleration for desktop composition
Aero was just a theme and style running thanks to DWM
>>
>>64319417
By the way, what are the metro apps using for the "new" blur effects?
>>
>>64319432
DWM, it's been part of Windows since Vista (for what it was created to run Aero on it, Aero was the shitty theme, not related to DWM itself)

An awesome one.

You mean the Voodoos? Voodoo 5's ghetto rigged for SLI.
>>
>>64320006
Never realized V5 even supported SLI, let alone 4x
>>
>>64319653
a setup like this reminds me of something like an old F1 car, on the bleeding edge of it's time that can now be beat even with the most modest of current tech but still just as impressive

>8GB RAM
How the hell do you even address that on CPUs 2 generations before x64 support?
>>
>>64320101
It's called PAE. Linux uses it, Win2000 advanced server and XP before SP2 can use it too. Even Server 2008 32bit (last 32bit server version) supports more than 4GB.
>>
>>64320101
One 32-bit CPU can address 4GB. Weird that two can address twice as much, isn't it?

>>
>>64320115
I was looking at Win2000 server and saw PAE support but didn't think that would be a thing going back to the PIII but it was introduced in the Pentium Pro
>>
>>64320148
Why are you linking me that when I just said 4GB?
>>
>>64320150
>Win2000 server and saw PAE support but didn't think that would be a thing
Those memory sizes where a thing way before Windows 2000 for workstations and servers.
>>
>>64320158
Protip: you are wrong, the CPU count is irrelevant.
>>
>>64320169
I'm wrong that I knew that PAE can support 4GB on 2k and XP?
Go to bed anon, you're retarded.

There is no classic theme with W10
>>
>>64320216
I find that hard to believe when you can pretty much theme everything
>>
>>64320241
Well there is no true windows classic theme in windows 10 any more as microsoft dropped the code for it, you can make up a theme but it would not be the true windows classic that was avaible like it was in windows 7 or XP
>>
>>64320241
Not with W10. The classic theme was taken out, and attempts to get it to work have failed ever since. I really wonder how this person got it working.
>>
>>64320336

Obviously not
>>
>>64320336
>I really wonder how this person got it working.
It's just a theme, literary a theme.
You haven't see other crazy theme shit people have done? This is nothing in comparison.
You don't need some special code to display a theme.
>>
>>64320321
>>64320336
False, the code is still there, just not linked anywhere
>>
>>64320358
With W10? I don't think so.
>>
>>64320479
Are you implying Windows 10 does not have themes? There's shitload of custom themes and patches
>>
>>64320487
When did I say that. I'm saying that there are no insane crazy themes for W10. Changing titlebar style is nothing

If you have followed the classic theme in any capacity, you'd realize that getting it to work like this in windows 10 is insane.
