this afternoon my pc started crashing while playing games. by crashing, I mean it restarts. it doesn't blue screen, nor does the driver crash. the game doesn't matter. I got it to crash during unigine valley benchmark. gpu temperature seemed normal at around 52C when it crashed according to MSI afterburner. I'm running it again to see the cpu temperatures when it crashes, but I suspect they'll be normal too

what do?

>>
>>65956097
ya, linux runs on anything. the mainstream distros like ubuntu etc will probably work without any configuring at all.

issue youre gonna have is that to dual boot windows and linux you pretty much have to install linux first (and linux's bootloader, typically grub) and then install windows afterwards. you want to be using linux's bootloader and not windows or else it wont work very well

literally just use ur brain and remember the exact time (hour/minute etc) that the crash occured and then find that time in the logs (either one, but the application is typically more useful) and look back like 5 minutes and see if it says anything fucked up.

if ur really autistic you can export the logs and upload them somewhere and maybe ill look at them for ur useless ass

>>

that key placement position is old, outdated, and fake news.

actual fast typists use their non-dominant hand for 75% of the keyboard and only several fingers on their actual dominant hand. no one actually uses their dominant ring finger or dominant middle finger to type.

Its possible that this ICCS is related:

The description for Event ID 0 from source ICCS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

I have a question about certain USB having trouble detecting certain devices. Laptop A can detect gamepad A and laptop B can detect gamepad B, but not vice versa. This was tested on Linux and Windows for both laptops.

Also I tried plugging in a phone into 2 different computers with one not detecting it and the other saying Base System Device has no drivers. Both have the necessary driver. I tried it on a 3rd computer, but instead of plugging it into a USB on the motherboard, I plugged it into a USB hub connected through PCIe and it worked flawlessly. What's causing these computers to work differently with USB devices?

Will this CPU work with this motherboard and will I be able to use all 8 of the RAM slots? The CPU says it only supports 4 channels of DDR3 RAM.

CPU: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAAEE4P25926
MOBO: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182336&cm_re=supermicro_ddr3_ecc-_-13-182-336-_-Product
RAM will be 4x16GB DDR3 ECC RAM. I would like to use the additional slots on the MOBO to expand in the future though.
>>
>>65956920
for clarity, my concern is that the CPU says it supports 4 channels of DDR3 memory. Does that mean that it only supports 4 memory modules at one time and putting it in this motherboard would be basically nuking the additional 4 slots?

Ok, so I'm experiencing heavy stuttering during encounters in WoW. 1060 6gb is not the culprit. My i5-4440 is a bit slow and gets to the low 90c's but load is fine and I'm fairly sure it isn't the root of my issues.

My Seagate 1tb ST1000DM003 however, is consistently reaching 100% disk usage and stalling. Can a HDD bottleneck gaming this hard? Would changing boot drive to a new SSD fix this?

Thanks in advance

How do I fix this?
>>
>>65957075
If you're hitting 100% load on something, that's the bottleneck. My guess is because something is fucked up though, not just because the drive is slow. See what else is running, and fix that. See what's using the disk.

Your heatsink has problems, damaged or dead.
it could be.
And yes, currently HDDs are the main bottleneck of all computers, and not exactly about switching to a SSD.
What is using your HDD? open task manager.
Are you using windows 7 or 10?
>>
>>65957316
>>65957075
For comparison, on the stock heatsink and paste a I5-4440 should never go beyond 60°C, even when i render with my I5-4460 with stock HSF it never goes beyond 70 in a room at 35°C.

I just got some DDR4 Corsair Vengence 3000MHz

On the side of the ram it says 3000MHz at 1.35V

It isnt stable at those settings. Instead ive found it stable at around 2666MHz @1.35V

Is this normal or should I return the sticks? Shouldnt it be able to achieve what it says it does?

Also is it wise to push voltages higher than 1.35V to try and get 3000MHz stable?

I yesterday was convinced by a kind anon that I could install Mint on my LG G130 from 2009, and it indeed worked, despite me getting a weird error message once (not that I do not know how to use PCs like you guys do).
That Anon was right about the PC inevitably being trash, it will never run decently, I now accept that too.
However, and I know this isn't my technical support group, but before I got my desktop I used to have a good laptop that I got before that.
It was a VAIO VPCF13M1E.
It was a nice machine and I spent years on it.
One day, though, the Graphics started crapping out, and even if no Anon here wants to/can help me figure out what it is, I thought I'd just share this with you guys, since I thought it's kinda weird and funny.

Why do professional streamers' livestream look so fluid when they're only streaming at 60fps? It looks like they are streaming 144fps because of how fluid it is.

When I record my video games (all kinds of games, like FPS, third person, etc) it looks like 60fps even though I have like 200FPS in-game.

How do they do it? I have tried Nvida shadowplay, Xsplit, OBS, radeon relive but all of my recordings look like stuttery mess compared to all the pro streamers.

Are they recording at like 900FPS and then replaying it at 60FPS and add motion blur like Kliksphilip does? Do they use external capture cards that have some onboard fuckery to make their 60fps recordings look like 144Hz?

yes, the outer two can be soldered straight to the test points which are already exposed, so that's easy
the centre two have connections on both sides of the broken trace, so unless you can verify they're still connected (such as with a continuity tester), those will need to be bridged back together as well
the wires need to be in the same position as before, obviously (the centre two are connected together on the board, so they can be switched, though there's no reason to do so)
pic related, coloured dots are suggested connections, and the thin yellow line is a suggested bridge to repair the gap you've created

No it's all free VPNs. They'll mine the fuck out of your data, and you'd be surprised what isn't encrypted. Also I wouldn't put it past them to try utilizing their position to try cracking your security. If nothing else, they're perfectly positioned for a MITM attack.

People buy VPNs thinking they can get privacy. You're just trading out your ISP for someone much shadier and completely unregulated.

So I've been out of the torrent game for a long time. How large should a 4K video file be with x265 to know I'm getting something that isn't shit? Most of the ones I'm seeing on public trackers are like 15-20 GB. That seems kinda small to me. Larger files seem to be dead as fuck on public trackers though.

Is there a big list somewhere of every IT job, what they do, and what qualifications are required?
>>
>>65961014
99% of the times you're "on a list" because your email address has been used somewhere yeah, so if you all of a sudden get scam/spam emails, it's a very high chance your email address has been used somewhere. the probability of them "by chance" finding your email is minimal.
>>
>>65955935
That depends on how efficient your resistance system is in comparison to its general space heating system. Lets say it's 5 times less efficient. Now to heat your home you need X amount of joules of energy per year. That X will be delivered as X = 5A + B where A is the amount from your space heating and B is the amount from your resistance heating. Y = A + B is the total amount of energy you will pay for. This as is is a rough schematic at best, but the point is that the answer depends on the performance ratio of your heating systems.
>>
>>65961857
The qualifications required for the job (obviously) depends on the company. So I don't think there is "a list", because that wouldn't make sense if companies decide themselves.

Using Git: I have a remote server with over 100 repositories that multiple people can access. I want to create a local repository that consists of a subset of those remote repositories as local repositories. Is this possible?
Basically I want to be able to run a single command on a local repository and have that command propagate to all the local repositories located inside it. For example if I tell git to push the local-only super repo it will push all of the local sub repos that have changes to their remote repositories. And if I tell the local-only super repo to check for changes or update/pull it will tell me which remote repositories have been updated/changed compared to my local sub-repositories / pull from the remote repositories that have been updated/changed into my local sub-repositories.

I'm assuming you are in visual studio. The correct way is to undo and do a find all references in all files search and rewrite it all. Failing that, create a temporary dummy class and do the search from their. If neither of these options work, then you will need to elaborate more on what you are trying to achieve.

Complete programming novice here, zero experience with the professional workflow of coding. I'd like to start reading source code as a practical experience for programming, but every git repository I've looked into has been a complete labyrinth of folders, subfolders etc.

If I were to (naively) pick an example like this
>https://github.com/systemd/systemd
Would I be correct in assuming the first code to be executed would be /systemd/src/boot, and then follow the "external calls" (I don't know the official term) to other files? What is the default "first file" that a program executes and where would I typically find them? Is there a specific folder/set of folders where the "meat" of the code generally goes? Or even, a user friendly directory?

How can I get in-game 4:3 resolutions to have proper aspect ratio scaling (black bars) in Linux without messing with my main/desktop resolution? In Windows 7 I used to be able to just tick an option in NVIDIA Control Panel and it would take care of everything but everything I try here just gives me issues, also it won't let me use my monitor's proper refresh rate (144hz) if I force the desktop resolution to anything lower than its native 1920x1080.

For some reason Goldsrc engine games (Counter-Strike 1.6, Half-Life) all properly maintain their proper aspect ratio in fullscreen, but on any Source Engine title it just stretches to fit my monitor. There's an "aspect ratio control" option on my actual monitor's settings, but it's unusable/greyed out if you aren't using a 4:3 desktop resolution (which, like I said before, I can't do without being forced down to 60-75hz).

I'm using Manjaro KDE on NVIDIA Driver 390.48.

github and gitlab are the only *public* source control sites anyone should use. once you get a bigboy job they will most likely transition away from public source control options but whatever

The latest uTorrent is ad-filled and maintained by devs who are barely more capable than the qBittorrent ones. It's had a million security holes since they made it adware with version 3.0.
Use uTorrent 2.2.1.

anything that has to do with medical shit is good. for example when i was an undergrad i made a program that used a neural network and trained itself to identify cancerous growths on MRI images. it was a bit tricky since MRI's use some weird ass format but theres documentation out there.

employers at fortune 100/500s love doing medical shit since hospitals have way too much money to blow.

No, it's just really crappy compared to uTorrent 2.2.1.
uTorrent basically reached perfection in its basic functionality with 1.6.1, then it got sold to Bittorrent Inc. (the creator of the protocol and the first client) -- but they kept the original intent of uTorrent and they added a few nice things all the way to 2.2.1.
Then they decided to try to make money off it and added ads and a paid Pro version with a media player, virus scanner, etc. It's ridiculous bloat, which is why 3.x is terrible compared to 2.2.1.
2.2.1 is lightweight, feature rich, and it performs great.

Bittorrent is the same executable as uTorrent. You may able to just put uTorrent 2.2.1 in the same directory and have it just werk. (You can go from uTorrent 3.x to 2.2.1 that way)

The term you want is "entry point" of a program, which is the first function called / class created/file executed. This will be different for every language, and for some languages it's not even a fixed name but can be defined by the build system.

There are also bits of code that run before the 'entrypoint' in some languages called 'static initialization'. To keep things simple i'd start out reading simpler codebases and not jump straight to massive clusterfucks.

the numbers are correct, yes
one bridge wire is enough in this case, as both broken traces are connected together on either side
note that you cannot solder directly to the green stuff
what you're looking at is 3 layers;
1. the PCB itself, which is dark blue looking, this is not solderable or conductive
2. the copper traces, gold in colour, this is conductive and solderable
3. a green protective coating on top of that, with some parts areas excluded, this must be (carefully) scraped off to expose the copper for soldering as it's not solderable or conductive

so for the bridge, just connect any 1 (or more) of the red-coloured pads to any 1 (or more) of the blue-coloured pads
as in the right image (light grey = solder, dark grey = exposed wire, blue = plastic wire cover)

ffmpeg.
ffmpeg and a fucking huge amount of time and would still be 99% quality and not lossless quality.
>>
>>65969171
>>65969196
The files i mean are around 120 20 minute anime episodes.
You think that one night would be enough for it to do it?
Also the "without losing quality" i meant was actually no artifacting and shit, if possible.
>>
>>65969225
video encoding is a balancing act, you can only focus on two of these at a time, sacrificing the third;
1. file size/bitrate
2. quality
3. encoding speed
for example, you can have a fast, high quality encoding... and big files
or small files that are high quality... but take a long time to encode
you need to look at what your requirements are (target quality, target filesize, target encoding time), then work out what settings to use from that. for example, maybe you don't care about how big the files are, use fast settings. or maybe you only care about making them small, use slow settings. or maybe you're streaming and want the best quality you can get out of X bandwidth while encoding in realtime, use settings which near-saturate your cpu such that you get the most quality you can with those limitations, etc, etc
video encoding done well is not very simple, and there's absolutely no 'one size fits all' settings to use
>>
>>65968862
Just do what I said
>>
>>65969225
>>65969287
ps. 120 20min files is 40 hours of video, doing this overnight (say 8 hours) is very restrictive
assuming 24fps, that's 3,456,000 frames, or 120 frames encoded each second, which is extremely fast
assuming you're using a single desktop cpu for this task, you'll need to use very fast settings, which means either very large files, or very low quality
>>
>>65969225
oh, as for;
>Also the "without losing quality" i meant was actually no artifacting and shit, if possible.
yes, i was being pedantic, it should be obvious that even a lossless video encode going from 720p to 480p will result in quality loss, since you're reducing the resolution
being less pedantic, yes, you can get close to the original video quality given appropriate settings

How come ADB Push is not showing transfer progress even with the -p switch enabled? Added this batch file to shell:sendto so that I can right click folders and then push them wirelessly to my tablet from the context menu

adb push -p %source% "/storage/sdcard1%target%

Did notice something odd about ADB Push's behavior after updating SDK tools though... If the folder does not exist it will create it and work as expected, but if the folder does exist, it will create another subfolder with the same name within it. Like the first time it is run it will make /storage/sdcard1/New Folder/ and then the second time it will make /storage/sdcard1/New Folder/New Folder/ It only ever goes 2 deep regardless of how many times it is run and --sync being set or unset doesn't seem to have any bearing on it.

Anyone have any idea what I might have screwed up here >>65969396 that would cause that? I guess it's manageable for the most part as long as I only ever try to copy new stuff over this way and just delete it from the shell beforehand if I want to update something but it's still a bit annoying
