buying expensive headphones is dumb unless your a DAW technician.

ear buds or any cheap shit up to 100$ is fine.

spending more than that on headphones I dumb when you can find cheap or free second hand speakers from the 90/2000s that sound way better.

if you really must fall for the headphone meme don't spend more than 300$.

>>
>>66695736

Never heard any of the Stax phones. I opted for these because like you said, they're easy to get, plus they have that sweet Koss lifetime warranty. They are lovely though. Not super detailed or anything, but their mids are absolutely to die for. They really pop with acoustic music.

>>66695789

Mostly just my Beyer T5ps. Piss-easy to drive, so they don't benefit much from this amp, but they pick up the amp's coloration. The DT770 Pro 80s really floored me by how much they improved with this, though. Mids got a little more lush, bass got really tight, and soundstage opened up a fair amount.

DACs, I never really bought into the ultra-expensive shit, so I'm just using a simple SoundblasterX AE-5 card.

>finally bought a pair of PortaMemes because always wanted some but somehow never got around to buy them
>/g/ said they'd be shit
>they're actually tons of fun

Bass isn't overblown like in many other really portable phones but it is most definitely louder than in others which makes it really pleasant to also listen to stuff at low volumes. With other phones I tended to crank it up quite a bit to have more bass fun, not necessary here.
The only thing I don't like that much is that the way upper mids are quite muffled but I prefer this over piercing SHIT that I experienced with phones of that price range.

All in all absolutely neato for 40 bucks and if the cable breaks (flimsy as fuck) I always have my solder iron handy.

Personally I think the KSC-75s sound better. They keep that similar bass, but the upper-mids through treble are more present. Soundstage is also a lot bigger.

Still, the PortaPros are rad. I got these sweet beige ones just because they look even more retro.

>feel like taking out some headphones I had put in storage for a spin
>pull out DT880

Fuck, they sound good. Maybe it's because I've been "spoiled" by Massdrop/Senn HD58X and its niggerbass and notreble, but I feel like I hear a lot more details with those. Also, the soundstage is a lot bigger, which is greatly enjoyable. I feel bad knowing that I will put them back in a drawer when I do the comparison with the DT1990.

Also, I do wonder, does the HD800 and its treble sound more like the DT880 than the DT1990 ? Because I've been curious about it, and I'm thinking that if it's closer to that than to the 1990, I may very much be getting a pair of HD800 soon.

poo poo soundstage even when compared to the 569. They are a retarded pair of open backs in my opinion, and you would be better off with some other headphones from AKG or Beyerdynamic. Hey, I would like to know some tips to make sure my headphones battery doesn't die so quickly.
I bought a Skullcandy hesh 3 and after a month of use the battery went from 22 hours of use to just 2 out of nowhere. So I had to use my warranty to get a new one.

Also, are the crusher better? I'm thinking of buying a new pair just in case the hesh 3 battery dies again.

58x doesn't have nigger bass. It might have better bass extension than 650 but it's clearer and leaner than the warm ass 650. 600 is nice as fuck tho. Better than all other Sennheiser in its range. Sennheiser 6 something's mostly have no treble because it's "non offensive"

I'm a firmware engineer that writes custom hard-real-time operating systems for hand-held industrial equipment. For critical and comfy listening, at home, in your room, speakers are better than headphones. Tell me why you would want something that clamps down on your ears, painful to wear after a few hours, makes you sweat, limited to length of cable, has 0 soundstage and nobass over a pair of speakers that you can relax, kick up your feet and close your eyes sit back and enjoy the music at your own pace? Every time I try to listen with headphones I feel like my ears are being raped. Its fucking shitty. How someone can actually PREFER headphones is beyond me. If you can't have speakers because they're 'too loud for mom' then move out of your moms fucking basement and get your own place. Fuck your neighbours and roommates, do whatever you want, blast music and enjoy the quality of sound that speakers provide over shitty headphones. If any of you faggots want to prove me wrong, go ahead and try.

uhh what? gutenberg has a pair of .7 maggies with $50k in source gear as his reference system. he also has a huge headphone collection but he doesn't do any critical listening on anything but his reference stereo system which includes puccini dac, dual chassis pass labs preamp, 5 figure racks, and some expensive tad pro bookshelf speakers, also in 5 figure range. youre kidding yourself if you think he actually gives a damn about headphones. if he does, its for review purposes. >>Headphones will always be able to pick out more details than speakers.
yeah, sure if you're using your fucking gamer pc as your source, with onboard dac, hooked into a shitty emotiva integrated to your passive/powered monitors then yes you wont be able to pick out more detail.95% of you guys have never heard a stereo system outside of a fucking pair of computer monitors. get a full range tower, a good modern design not some shitty vintage set of castle or jbl that you inherited from your parents, and put on some modern pop and tell me that your fucking headphone system has 'more detail'. you are so completely wrong.

Speakers only sound better in dedicated listening rooms. If you do the proper measurements and have the proper acoustic dampening on hard surfaces, sure. Your speaker setup will blow away most headphone setups, even ones reaching $5k+, but you're spending easily $5k+ on a speaker setup that would be capable of this, and if you aren't an audio engineer with experience setting this up yourself, you're going to have to hire someone to set up your room properly.

It aint cheap to get good sounding speaker setups, and frankly most people don't have the space to dedicate an entire room just for listening.

it is very simple, let me explain- you have air around you, right? and air carries vibrations, those vibrations have it's frequencies and brain deciphers those frequencies as sounds

Solder all 3. Wrap all 3 in heat wrap (cheap on ebay) or electrical tape. The white strand is for strain relief (in theory). One problem is that section won't be shielded, which isn't a problem for headphones but might be for line level stuff.
