You've confused two different things here. That guide refers to waiting for the permission request, which is a different thing from the Mi unlock binding time. To unlock the bootloader on Xiaomi phones you have to first request permission, wait for that to be accepted, and THEN wait the Mi Unlock account binding time (which is 720hr with the RN5). Simply receiving the unlock permission doesn't let you immediately unlock the bootloader. See here:

>being this stupid
Let's assume you aren't baiting.
1. You can't see the notch on a screenshot for obvious reasons
2. Not everyone is as blind as you and can't tell the difference where the screen goes over to the notch. It's very unsettling and the asymmetric screen shape triggers the OCD of every sane person

>Will aim for a type C in 2-3 years.
Why would a different cable and a port you'll never look at matter to you, especially when its 4000 mAh battery charges in around 2 hours?
>>
Why?
>>
>>68014918
Micro usb ports tend to get loose and not hold the cable after some use. I have to keep my Moto X play still in order to charge it anymore, so I was hoping I wouldn't have the problem with type C.

Is the touch latency on the Essential Phone really that bad? Is it even worth getting one when phones with the SD 855 are right around the corner?
My budget is around $500 and I'm torn between the Essential Phone and the Mi Mix 3, on one hand I want stock Android out of the box and the ability to unlock the bootloader without having to wait 720 hours but on the other hand I'd like some up-to-date hardware since I'll be keeping it for 3+ years.

Even when viewing youtube videos in landscape, you cannot see the notch because it blends in perfectly with the black oled screen. You literally do not see it because it is nowhere near the video and does not block anything at all
>pick one
It's perfectly symmetrical in portrait and invisible when viewing 16:9 or even 18:9 video. I'm sane and have no issues with it

Which manufacturer has the best launcher/home screen? I never understood the nova launcher meme until I used my girlfriend's Xperia and saw how awful the default was. Meanwhile on my LG, it already does almost everything nova launcher does by default and more. I think I'm strongly in the LG fan boy camp as of now.
>>

>>
>>68015528

>>
>>68015462
You need to work on your reading comprehension. There is no unlock code. The one day to 10 days wait refers to getting the unlock permission, which you don't need to ask for anymore. But you still need to wait the account binding time in Mi Unlock, which is 720 hours now and cannot be bypassed.

Went from a Nexus 5x, to a G5, to a Nexus 6p (battery shit out in under a year)and finally to an Essential Phone.
Do yourself a favor and and get an essential while they're still $350 on Amazon.

There will be notch posts, but almost every app that isn't from Google cuts off at the bottom of the camera anyway. It's seriously a non issue.
>>
>>68017707
hows the battery life on the essential?

I'm on it all day on and and off, and it hasn't dropped below 60% yet in a day's time. I was so used to the 6P dying every 15 minutes that it's a godsend for me. You do get more space, but the notch is not necessary when you have such a big chin in the bottom. In things like the iPhone you actually get an edge to edge display and the notch is there out of necessity to place the camera and sensors. The Pixel 3 just shoehorns a notch then it's not necessary.

>>
>>68018410
The chin is not correlated to the notch in any way.
The chin is there because it holds the physical connection from the screen to the motherboard.
The notch is there simply to hold some sensor and the front facing camera, as an attempt to extend the maximum possible of the display in the top.
I wish the Mix 2S had a AMOLED display so I could buy it and be done with notches. Gonna have to go with S9+.
>>
>>68018606
The notch is a compromise to a truly edge to edge display because you need space for the camera and such. Apple folds the screen so it doesn't need a chin. There is absolutely no reason for a notch when you can have thin top and bottom bezels like the Galaxy S9.
>>
>>68018663
I know, I said just that.
I hate the notch, I think it looks way better with top and bottom bezels the same size as it creates a symmetrical look. My next phone will be a S9+ around December.

They do help indirectly, if your screen doesn't have any scratches there are less failure points in the case it does drop and it may will it from scratching when dropped, so you get some protection in that regard. But in a case where your screen would shatter, it won't take the hit instead.

Any Mexicanfags in here?

I'm looking to upgrade to something that can run Fate Grand Order smoothly. I'm currently playing on a 1gb RAM Alcatel shitphone and the app crashes all the time.

Budget is $7,000 Mexican pesos (300~ USD) max and I'd like to keep the aspect ratio of 16:9 to avoid black bars.

I'm thinking on something that has a Snapdragon 600~/Octa-core/4GB RAM/32GB internal memory device since that's more or less what /vg/ told me, but I don't know if there is such thing in the country around that price or if I can go with something less powerful.

Looking for a phone for around $300-$400 AU (about $200-$280 US). Trying to decide between the flagships of yesteryear and current low/midrange phones. Is the 1st gen Google Pixel still a good buy? The other phones I was looking at were the Galaxy S7 and Moto G6.

Features:
>Headphone jack
>Good camera
>(Relatively) stock Android
>Around 5" screen ideally, but willing to go bigger if necessary
>Either large internal storage or an SD card slot
>Ideally USB C

I guess what I'm looking for is like a current Nexus 5X equivalent, since that phone (before it bootlooped) was pretty much perfect for me aside from low RAM and low internal storage. Perhaps a strange request, but I'm looking for a smaller sized, thicker phone.

It's for my dad, he's been using a fossil from 2001 and modern apps keep getting bigger.

Size is most important, I was looking for something around the size of an Iphone SE (58.6 mm x 123.8 mm x 7.6 mm) (4" screen)

Battery life should be ok to good, preferrably android, budget of around 200 euro or below. Prefer lower-end chipsets as long as it means it will last longer on battery. Android version at least version 5. Screen doesn't need to be ultra high res.

suggestions? whats the android equivalent size and spec of an iphone se?

Looking to upgrade from a Galaxy S7 Active on AT&T. Given that AT&T is mainly Samsung/Apple shit, I'm considering the Note 9 and some iPhone X-variant. I've had an S3 (really laggy piece of shit that I hate only weeks in), and an S7, which was a way better experience that I used Nova on from day 1. S7 still started lagging a few months in despite samshit drones telling me that the Samsung lag was "fixed". Besides that, my s7's battery is going to shit 2 years in, it lags more than I'd want it to (but it's nowhere near as bad as the s3), keyboard sometimes doesn't load, screen goes black at times, and it's died on me at 30% about 5 times already. Really leaning on the Note 9 for the pen because I rely on post its and handwritten notes daily, and it would probably save me money if I wrote all my notes on my phone. I need to know if it'll start lagging on me or if the battery will go downhill quickly. No 1 year reviews are available on the note 9, but I've seen 1 month reviews and they all say the battery is acceptable for a phone that size, but not amazing. I'm just looking for my phone to last more than 2 years, and the only appeal for the iPhone that it has software support for 3+ years and it's insane idling battery life (no worries about wakelocks).

What would /g/ recommend? My friends on the s8's tell me their phones don't lag and they're 1+ year in, but I doubt their opinions because I've already been burned twice.

if you really cared about bloatware you would've never ever even considered a samsung phone

tho if you already have a facebook page you might as well enjoy it, their hardware is second to none

Came with ~70% for me. Not that it matters. It'll tell you when it needs power

Getting a new phone (US, Verizon), and I have no idea what to get. Currently have a Pixel(love everything about it) but it's gone and shit the bed. Looking for something with a long battery life that won't break if I drop it 500 times.

Searching for a new phone and need some help.

I'm from Germany but I don't think that's important.

Budget is about $300, I don't have any specific wishes (amazing camera etc.), a good screen would be nice l.

Overall just a solid phone for the price. I'm upgrading from an Oneplus One

Employer covers part of my phone bill through carriers which is why I kind of do have to go through my carrier if I want to get the phone at a lower price than retail.

Problem is none of the non-bloat phones work on Verizon.

Blackberry is the best gimmick. Sorry dude. If you want hardware gimmicks a touchpad and keyboard are the only ones that will actually make a difference in how you use your phone.
