Will microwave 100% destroy data on HDD with no way to restore it? What about SSD?
>>
Don't put metal in the microwave
>>
Better solution, just open up the drive and smash it with a hammer.

Or better yet, stop being a criminal.
>>
>>68025403
your microwave will explode but hdd will stay intact
>>
Why don't you try and find out?
>>
you dont have anything important enough for anybody to care really
>>
>>68025799
That way I wouldn't find out if it's actually possible to restore data.
>>
>>68025732
>implying that only possible way to have problems with law enforcement is to be criminal
>>
>>68025854
If you're framed yeah, but you would still be accused of committing a crime.
>>
>>68025816
Oh, yes. But if you ask a fucking anonymous forum about it, then you'll find it out for real. Indeed.
Does every disgusting attention whoring anime pedo faggot THAT stupid?
>>
>>68025876
Are you upset?
>>
Not having a magnetron build into your PC on its own UPS
>>

>Implying the police don't make mistakes

How much glue do you eat
>>
>>68025403
Obstruction of justice is still a felony OP, remember that as you do whatever with your hard drive.
>>
>format disk
>set up full disk encryption
>throw in trash
>>
>>68025933
>get held indefinitely
It sucks but that's how it works for criminals and those wrongly accused.
>>
>>68025910
Forgot your meme arrow
>>
Wipe the drive with like a cloth like Hillary
>>
>>68025403
Better idea: get a big magnet, rub it like a sponge all over the HDD or SSD. Then break that shit with a big ass hammer. LEAs can read the smallest of platters so be sure to make them look like microscopic glitter before shaking the platters in different wind directions.
You may not be guilty in the eyes of the law after that action, but your conscience will always burn with guilt.
>>
ITT so how do i completely DESTROY any data on my hard drive haha but just in case the police falsely accuse me haha wouldnt want them to check my hdd and find nothing on there haha better smash it to bits haha
>>
>>68026015
>rub a magnet on your ssd
>>68026049
haha fuckin dban amirite?
>>68025918
This is true even though {[{they}]} can suck my dick because that's my property until it's not.
>>
>>68025952
>get held indefinitely
Nice freedom you have there
>>
>>68025816
Why don't you microwave it, then try and recover the data? Also, if you do microwave it, don't forget to film it so you can post it here. You may want a co2 fire extinguisher on hand. But only if you are a pussy. Real chads don't need fire extinguishers.
>>
>>68026084
It's insurance to make sure more criminals stay behind bars and not fugitives on the run. How would you like it if some pedophiles who actually molest children and people who've committed a homicide were given the chance to walk free?
>>
>>68025403
for i in $( seq 0 9);
do
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda bs=4k status=progress;
done;
>>
>>68025403
just become a diaperfag and hide it in your dirty stinky diapers, no LEA will think about looking for you HDD there, nor will want to.
>>
>>68026113
There are better (and more certain) ways to prove somebody is guilty of an homicide than 0s and 1s on a hard drive
>>
>>68026085
This, your body produces enough CO2 to put out the fire.
>>
>>68026067
You gotta talk to a lawyer or something man. /g/ is in no way prepared to give you good legal advice. We just circlejerk to tech brands and beat our meat to chinese cartoons.
>>
>>68026129
Right but any doubt leaves room for escaped fugitives to go on the run most likely commiting more crimes.
>>
>>68025434
This
>>
>>68026150
This. It would be best if everybody was locked up that way nobody could ever go on the run.
>>
>>68025403
A strong electromagnet directly on the nand chips will wipe the the thing clean.
>>
>>68026113
I'd rather have 10 murderers/pedos walking free than a single innocent person behind bars, you pussy.

What's wrong with writing zeros over the drive?
>>

Nobody cares about your faggot porn m80
>>
>>68026940
Unless you do this over and over and OVER retrieving data is relatively easy
>>
>>68025403
I used to be like you and feel scared about having my homosexual porn collection out in the open in fear of ridicule. Now I don't care at all and even joke about my rampant gayness. You may not see it now, but it gets better I promise.

Let's find out!
>>
>>68026302
This.
That's what the second ammendment is for
>>
>>68027372
Honestly if we just eye for an eyed people america wouldn't be so fucked. Rape and decapitate animals, get raped and beat an hour for every victim. Shoot a rival gang member get shot. There'd be edge cases like questionable self defense but 80% of violent cases would be solved in a matter of weeks.
>>
>>68025403
Just format it 10 times, then take the drive out and beat the shit out of it. Drill holes, bend it, submerge it, do everything. 0% chance of data recovery.
>>
>one pass wipe
>throw in someone elses trash
done. stop overcomplicating shit.
>>
sudo shred -n 10 -z /dev/sdb

done
>>
>>68025403
Buy acid and dissolve the HDD discs. Either that or termite.
>>
>>68027908
a cluster of termites gnawing away at your HDD discs is probably the best way of hard drive destruction.
>>
>>68027755
Listen to this guy lmao.
>>
>>68025403
A strong magnet will do the work even better.

You can buy an electromagnet from Aliexpress with up to 6000N.
>>
>>68027693
Too long. I need something that would do the trick within minutes with little to no preparation.
>>
>>68025403
Best way to erase data is DBAN
DOD short works okay, full DOD is good enough for most people. If you're worried about state sponsored hackers use the Gutmann method, let it run and check back in a year or two. Better yet, if you don't need the drive back, put it through a drive crusher or make some thermite.
>>
>>68028078
Magnets don't work. They can cause data corruption but they will not remove all data. I have personally attempted this, I was still able to lift full images from the drive and most plain text documents could still be read. There was no way it was going to boot, but you could definitely still get data from it.
>>
No.

Modern hard drive media has a coercivity high enough that the magnetic force required to actually securely degauss the media will also bend the drive in two.

For both hard drive and solid state media, assuming properly-operating firmware, using the ATA Secure Erase command (Enhanced, where available) will securely erase the data as far as it is possible to do so: which is to say, possible on hard drive medial, and it's as good as you're going to get without physical destruction on solid state media.

(Importantly, because the failure mode of flash cells usually manifests as failed writes AND failed erases, despite the higher voltage of erases, it is impossible to truly securely zeroise solid state media which has even one remapped block without following a secure erase with physical destruction. This is not true for hard drives, for which even one proper ATA Secure Erase pass on a modern hard drive will stop even intelligence agencies getting anything back from it.)

Use this knowledge for secure recycling and data protection, but not for obstruction of justice, because that's foolish.

Install windows 10 and manually search for updates.

Just remember, it can't be considered tampering with evidence if the evidence is destroyed before it becomes evidence.

The mistake of finding CP on a drive where there's no CP? Yeah I don't think that happens too often pal
>>
>>68025434
This
>>
>>68031519
I wonder if there's any small chance of someone being found "not guilty" despite having LEA finding cp on their PC. After all, the defender could claim their PC was hacked and someone managed to remotely access their computer through some RAT trojan and planted cp to frame the accused. Rootkits can be very hard to detect and said hacker could have swiftly covered his tracks afterward.
It's a shoddy defense, but I don't doubt that in 0000000000000.1% of all cp cases this might have actually happened and the guy with cp found on his computer was innocent all along
