The reason I'm asking is 2012 displays are all around in my location, cheap and nice and 2011 displays are super rare and 2-3 times more expensive and come without glass which costs same as the display like wtf. To buy the 2011 display I have to pay at least 4 times more

I'm having some trouble getting win10. I want enterprise to use with the toolkit in the OP, but the iso from the MS site doesn't seem to have enterprise in it, only home, education, pro, pro education and pro workstation.

A lot of people have claimed that education is the same as enterprise, but that doesn't seem to be the case sinse 1709 where they removed some features from education.

So where the fuck do you get an enterprise iso? Or is it on the same iso a the toolkit just does not support it?
>>
>>68408019
Just get a new toolkit. Download whatever iso you want from the MS site: https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php

And then follow method 2 here: https://msguides.com/microsoft-software-products/2-ways-activate-windows-10-free-without-software.html
>>
>>68408019
>that doesn't seem to be the case sinse 1709 where they removed some features from education

I think you must be misunderstanding. What features do you think they removed?
>>
>>68408147
The only thing I've been able to find is that education can't create ReFS partitions, if that'd all is just go with education.
>>
>>68408184
Yeah that is it. The only reason the guides don't mention it is that it's such a niche feature it's not even worth thinking about. Even if you were one of the extremely few people who would find it interesting, it's still very poorly designed and if it's worth going through the effort to use, then it's worth doing it right and using one of the much better linux filesystems it's based on.
>>
>>68408078
I have no idea what to pick there to get enterprise
Windows(final) is the one I used and doesn't have enterprise
Windows insider has a volume lisince preview which may be enterprise, but is an older build from last year it seems, or the build numbers are different.

windows 10 business as a esd file is available.

Fuck it I'm just using education.

Me and my brother work in video editing together. He recently built a computer but was stuck in the W10 installation part of the build. Since we share files, i just decided to clone my SSD onto his in order to both skip the installation part and keep my programs and files. It pretty much worked. His PC ran insatnaly and it looked identical to mine. The problem is that my PC ran an Intel Chipset while his runs a Ryzen 5 2600x chipset. That along with the different motherboard (MSI instead of Gigabyte) and the different GPU obviously means that my Drivers are inaccurate.

Before i install the correct drivers, should i first delete the old Intel, Gigabyte and Radeon ones? What's a good program to browse for incompatible installed drivers to do so? Also, would it just be better to reinstall Windows completely and just manually reinstall every program and driver?

Windows 10 is pretty good at adapting to new hardware on the fly. There's the least likelihood of complications if you clean install onto the correct hardware, so that's always recommended, but if you're not experiencing problems it shouldn't matter too much either way.

So I build my first PC like 3-4 months ago, took some old parts GPU and PSU and a Samsung 120 GB ssd for Windows and a 500 gb one for games, rest is new. Upgraded to 16GB RAM, Intel i5 8600k. Installed win7 since I couldn't be arsed to create a win gaming vm. Thing is my windows is terrifyingly slow, after windows boots up it takes like 30 seconds to do anything, if I try to start Firefox during those 30 seconds nothing happens, can't open simple shit like windows sound mixer (which also kinda laags when I try to change volume aka ~6 seconds of doing nothing). Even mse takes a while to start. Any idea how/where I fucked up besides falling for the winshit meme? Win7 can't be this broken it must've been something retarded I did wrong.

TL;DR Windows doesn't react after booting up

Yeah, i noticed that it's working pretty good overall. Tried running some games on Steam and it seems to be working fine. I still want to install the drivers because Premiere Pro is having audio problems and doesn't even recognize the audio driver. I would appreciate any software that would let me pinpoint the depreciated and/or useless drivers so that i can easily delete the Gigabyte/Radeon/Intel drivers along with any collateral garbage there is. I don't want the PC to be filled with useless drivers.
>>
>>68410907
If you did a clean install of windows, and you didn't install any bullshit on it (a big IF), my guess is the storage medium. 120gb ssds are naturally prone to problems and slower speeds, and if it's a much older one it might be before critical modern improvements kicked in.

So I often hear people pitch anonymising services (VPN, tor, etc) saying "you wouldn't want your ISP or your work knowing about your visits to pornhub" or something like that

And that's true, it'd be nice to think that these people could not know about these things, but even when using them, surely the minute you log into any account that will reveal your IP even if it is masked or whatever.

Then this can be cross-referenced and your activity can be found.

Do anonymising services just rely on people not doing this? I must be misunderstanding completely right?

VPNs aren't anonymous, your VPN provider can see every domain you're visiting and they could theoretically hand it over to anyone that asks for it.

If you were to use Tor, the Tor nodes that your traffic passes through wouldn't be able to see your IP address, but the exit node would be able to see the data you're sending if it is unencrypted (i.e if you aren't using HTTPS).

Okay so ran crystaldiskinfo, both of my SSDs say "good 100%". Sfc returned "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" so I guess that can't be the problem either. Maybe I somehow infected my system? Malwarebytes only identified the FileZilla-bundled installer (which contains opt-out PUPs which I did not install as far as I remember)

I'm doing some website and would like to send emails with php. Sadly, the mail() function do not work. I think I should install ssmtp and configure it so it works. Everything I found about ssmtp is about configuring it with gmail.

Gmail won't let you send emails through their own servers unless you actually have an account with them.
Contact your hoster and ask why mail doesn't work and if they have an alternative or their own smtp server that you can send mails from.

Yeah filezilla is kinda fucked now. Only install it through ninite.com

Actually I'd stick to the ninite list as much as possible. Shouldn't be anything there that uses resources unnecessarily. I wouldn't expect filezilla to cause all that though. If by MSE you mean the microsoft AV, I'd ditch that. If you absolutely have to have an AV, go bitdefender. Your pc should be snappy as shit even if the 500gb is an HDD. Try running msconfig, looking under services and hiding all microsoft. Uncheck as much BS as you can and see if that helps. The next thing would be checking your boot menu for a diagnostic scan option. A clean install would help if it's a software problem, but if you've got this fucked in 3 months it probably means there's some specific fuckery you'd want to avoid the second time around.
>>

you need to configure php and tell it where your smtp server is.

I'm working on something in C++, but I can't fucking understand this. My *pt isn't NULL, in the first cout it prints the address it's on (and it's not 0, but a address like 0x7b0f20, but nonetheless the result of *pt == NULL (or !(*pt) ) is always true and enters the if block. Any ideas of what am I doing wrong?

int insert(Node **pt, string path, string name, bool type)

cout << *pt;

cout << "*pt == NULL\n";

Thanks for the tip, you probably mean by diagnostic scan option the memory check/scan right? MSE never negatively impacted my work/activities. If someone would need an AV, you would suggest Bitdefender? Is the free version sufficient or is the pay-version a must have?

Your ISP only sees the connection to the VPN, it doesn't know what website you are visiting. Only the VPN does.

If you are not using a VPN, your ISP sees the website you are visting (ip), and any data you send to it. This is a big deal because that data includes search queries and the like. Having connections secured through SSL masks all of that though, but not all websites support it.

If the FBI wants to know who you are, sure, if you did crime using a VPN, and then you logged in to your personal gmail using the same VPN, they could connect your identity to the VPN. But that's your own faul, and well, just don't do any crime if you are worried about that.

Criminals do and will make mistakes, all it takes is someone smarter than the criminal to catch them.

Yeah, the full list of hardware diagnostics, although be warned that extended drive tests take forever. AVs in general aren't a great idea these days, although malwarebytes is great for on demand. If you were going to pay for something I'd probably go with that. Bitdefender free is great in that it has zero popup bullshit, great detection rates and uses bear minimal resources. Only real downside is that you may run into programs it's just not compatible with. If that doesn't happen to you it's pretty sweet.

dumb junior sysadmin

is it common for sql server in windows to be used by various larger applications?

a company has accounting software thats installed in virtual server
and has sql server runnig
and now my boss is planning to use the same sql server for another application, this one is for logging employees ins and outs of the building, with the cards and shit

I feel like ideal solution is to just give the company providing this own virtual server where they can do what they need
boss went with the idea to go install on the same machine and use sql server from another virtual machine

saves resources I guess, especially when its mostly dormant server, but is it normal to share sql server for various tasks? they fuck up something we are fucked

>didn't c just get turned into machine code the same as assembly?
C is slightly higher level than Assembly meaning it is more abstract and easier to write but the compiler has to do more work into converting it into machine code. Most of the time C compilers are good a generating optimized machine code, but specific or complicated circumstances can lead to a compiler generating machine code that's less efficient than it could be.

These cases can be pretty rare though. C compilers are good at trying to figure out what you're trying to do and get it done in the most efficient way possible.

I'm going to post my question here since /pcbg/ is going on their autistic cpu war again.

Assuming I don't care about playing games on 144hz and only want to play the latest games on 60/75hz on 1440p with at least high settings, is a rx 580 enough?

I'm want to get a 27" 1440p monitor for both work and play but don't want to spend on those 144hz gamer monitor + vega 56.

Basically a 27" 1440p with 60hz + rx 580, but my question is running a game on lower refresh rate means I don't need a powerful gpu? I don't want to needlessly spend.

Or to rephrase again, running a newer title on 1440p with 60hz at high settings achievable with a rx 580?

Sorry to be too specific, I need clarity because googling doesn't give me a proper answer.

so i have this encrypted file and i forgot the password/keyfiles for it. however because i learn from my mistakes, i always chose my passwords/keyfiles using a very specific method so i have 6 possible passwords, 2-5 possible key files out of 5, one specific PIM or the default one and i don't remember if it was encrypted using veracrypt or truecrypt. that still gives quite a lot of possible combinations to check by hand. is there some kind of program that would check it all for me?

If I want to make a little program to keep track of the currently focused window and change my mouse profile based on this at the appropriate times is Python a good choice for this? Admit I have very little experience with that so would have to research the appropriate stuff but want to make sure I'm not going down the wrong path right at the start or something. Been wanting to do this for a while since it gets annoying when the built in software for my mouse fails to detect application switching at the right time and I have to swap back and forth or wait a few seconds for stuff to register, figured a dedicated script to monitor currently focused app and send the appropriate profile to the API would work better?

I'm trying to troubleshoot a boot issue in Linux. All I can tell so far is it's after the initramfs pivots into the real system, and before X starts.

Trouble is I get useful messages in plain old 80x25 text-mode up until the blasted thing switches to a 1920x1200 fbcon, and then everything is black from there on out until the disk quits blinking shortly after and it's hung.

I'm NOT looking for help on the core issue since it's weird semi-embedded shit. I just want to keep it from changing video modes. How do I get it to stay in plain old reliable text mode?

I've tried text, nomodeset, blacklisting my GPU driver, and blacklisting fbcon but none of it has any effect.

There's no AV thread so I guess I have to ask here.

I went dumpster diving a few days back and managed to pull out

2x Sony SS-TS74 speakers
1x Sony SS-WS74 sub-woofer
quick specs: https://servicemanuals.us/sony/audio/ss-ct72-ss-ts73-ss-ts74-ss-ws72-ss-ws74-ss-ws75.html

1x Sony STR-DH100 receiver
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/audio-components-receivers-amplifiers/str-dh100

1x Yamaha RX-V365 receiver
https://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-v365/specs.html

The sony receiver outputs are labeled 3ohm (though the manual in link say 8), so I hooked up the speakers and they seem to work fine, but it doesn't support a sub-woofer. The yamaha on the other hand is 8ohm, so I'm afraid to hook up the speakers, out fear of blowing something, but the receiver does at least provide support sub-woofers. The yamaha SEEMS like it's nicer, or at least media center oriented, so it SEEMS preferable, but I don't know. First time I've even touched a receiver, so I'm clueless. Can I use the Yamaha with the speakers? Is it actually better? Use case is just to feed it audio from PC, TV, PS3, and BD player, though I really don't use the BD or PS3 much.

I want a portable, 13-14 inch laptop with a preferably not 16:9, excellent screen and good audio for media while having solid enough specs to not shit itself when compiling code inside a VM. No AutoCAD or rendering or anything really intensive like that though, I don't need a "portable" workstation,

I know Dell gets recommended for their crazy gamut and color accuracy but they also feel like fucking garbage to use with ghosting out the ass and response times of over 50ms. Lenovo has their X1 Carbon but there you're paying a massive premium for their business class features and a "HDR" screen that's not even real HDR, only to get stuck with unusable, $300 netbook quality speakers and not even good audio through headphones, and I've heard horror stories about their QC lately.

So what does that leave? Matebook X Pro and a MBP? I actually don't mind macOS or the keyboard, and both would cost around the same here with similar specs even with the memebar (yeah, I know, it's weird), so which one would you consider the better choice? Or are there any laptops in the same niche I may have missed?

Depends on the number of drives you need hooked up to it, and if you're ok with hanging them off of it via USB. The small NUC type devices are great, you can mount them to the back of a monitor, reducing a lot of clutter on a desk. Look for older generation types that take DDR3 ram, cheaper to upgrade.

Taiwan really made a lot of innovations in the 90s with plastics. In the 2000s the Chinese had copied most of it. They also copied the Koreans who had copied the Japanese, for making panels. If you want a metal chassis, look for business class, or thin and light gaming laptops.

Samsung makes great SSDs, get whatever size fits your budget, and can hold files you want to have good access times for (like huge collections of images or music).
If the files are larger, like games or video, put them on HDD. You don't want the Black line unless you have good cooling and redundancy. Faster HDDs run hotter, and fail faster. The Reds are the go-to for storage.

This.
If you like the place, and know what you're doing, asking for a raise isn't a bad thing to do. Don't expect it all at once though. Depending on the size of the organization, they may have 'bands' that you have to progress through.
Also, learn as much as you can. The more versatile you are, the more easily you can pick up slack/replace someone else, which makes you more valuable. My first real job, I doubled my salary in 5 years. Most people are too lazy to do this, and just job hop every year or two. That makes climbing the ladder faster for the rest of us that stick it out. The company made me an engineer lol, and that shit is cash on a resume. I've gained enough 'experience' to do whatever I want now, which has resulted in me taking a cushiony job with the government, where all I do is monitor shit that never goes down, and shitpost on 4chan all day and watch tv/youtube, or whatever else I want to do, and still clear 6 figures in a flyover.

I know that, but the X1C somehow manages to have garbage audio even with headphones. So you're paying a €1000 premium over other laptops with the same specs only to still have to shell out for an external DAC.

I want to buy 2 external harddrives and use them with music production/graphic design/video editting
I travel quite a bit, and have started using my laptop more, but it has no storage.
So i'm gonna invest in 2x4tb harddrives.
1 as back up, and 1 for when i go out.

I was just wondering if anyone know any software, or solution to having them both back up each other.
So i can take one of the drives with me, and continue the work on the go.
When i come back home, i want them to back up automaticly, so i can proceed work on my desktop.

Other ideas for transporting storage is also welcomed.

If you travel a lot, get SSDs. HDDs will fail. They're not made to be moved around, especially if you fly. They call baggage handlers 'throwers' for a reason. The pressure and temperature deltas in cargo fuck them up fast too.

Check the colormatrix of the input and output files (if you use mpv pressing i will show an info screen that also contains this information).
If the input and output color matrix aren't the same, add the colormatrix filter and see if that helps. For example if your input has bt.709 and the output has bt.601 then use
colormatrix=bt709:bt601

This is always necessary for input files with a colormatrix other than bt.601 when using VP8 (as it doesn't support anything else) and sometimes for VP9 when you scale down bt.709 HD footage to SD.
