What is the history of inter sect/denomination marriage? Not talking about interfaith marriage, but I am rather interested in how common it was for people who followed basically the same religion to marry. Like, how common was it for Catholics and Orthodox to marry in the border regions where the two denominations would have interaction? The Balkans or Ukraine for example. How was it in other religions and regions, famous examples(non political if possible), how the marriage rites would be performed etc.

A lot of intermarriage took place among royalty, the Romanovs, for instance

How did that go down tho? Would the children born from mixed royalty be required to have allegiance to the Vatican, or vice versa to the Orthodox Church?

They would be expected to have allegiance to the state. Russians wouldn't accept a ruler a cucked papist.

That is more of a recent thing tho. What denomination are you yourself?

No such thing.

Used to be confused af I went to both churches but most of the times it was Catholic so for a period I aligned myself with the Catholic Church however recently I'm going Shia Islam because I disagree with the Catholic Church and Christianity

My Grandmother was Irish Catholic and my Grandfather was Scottish Presbyterian. They got married, Church law or something stipulated that the children of said marriage had to be baptized Catholic.

There's no more Presbyterians left, only Catholics.

Sikhs can marry whoever as long as the first son was given to Sikhism. The rest of the kids can choose.

Oh you're going to enjoy this. Dutch society was extremly autistic in this regard back in the 50s.

>Maternal grandmother
>Born into a Catholic family
>Gets a boyfriend from a protestant family
>Both family patriarchs split them apart
>Grandmother marries my Catholic grandfather instead

>Maternal grandmother
>Born into a strict calvinist family
>Meets my grandfather one day
>Introduces him to my great-grandfather
>Has to hide the fact that my grandfather's father was a catholic despite them coming from a mixed protestant/catholic marriage.

Here is another famous example, a catholic woman married a protestant man. But after their death they were not allowed to be burried next to each other, so instead their families made this joined gravestone where they would still be spiritually connected.

With the Verzuiling, the Dutch almost made it an institution
It was crazy
In the days of my grandparents (1930's) until not even that long ago (1960's?) everything you did had to be in the column you belonged in
So Catholics would do their groceries at the catholic grocer, listen to catholic radio, vote catholic, etc.
There were four of these 'columns': Protestant, Catholic, Socialist and Liberal
Really weird to think that society used to be so segregated.

You’re genuinely retarded if you think the Catholics fuck more children than other religions. I assure you there’s institutionalized child abuse in Shia Islam.

As late as the mid 20th century in the US, a Protestant and a Catholic getting hitched would be called a "mixed marriage." It wasn't very common.
>>
>>5613672
People that do this probably don't really care about religion anyway.

Any woman who married into the Romanovs had to just suck it up and convert to Orthodoxy, otherwise she simply wouldn't be allowed in. For many, this was a very stressful thing to have to do. I know from her biography that Catherine II had to be reassured by several different protestant preachers that orthodoxy wasn't actually that different before she was willing to do it. And then when her own granddaughter got engaged to a member of the Swedish Royal Family, she kept trying to intervene to make sure that the granddaughter wouldn't be required to convert to Protestantism just because she didn't want her to go through the mental anguish of conversion like she did.

Which Shia Islam? Twelver or Nizari Ismaili?
