How the fuck do you even fight this? Fully armored swordsmen wasn't really THAT much used, right?

I watched a movie on liveleaks where 2 russians fought with full plate armor (like in your picture) and with sharp swords. The fight ended with one of them getting too tired to fight.
So how exactly did battles like this play out on the battlefield?
>>
>>3102146
The plated soldiers were the vanguard of any army so fights like this were common but brief.

There would also be three knights in a "Squad" so to speak with only one fighting at any given time.

The average knight would only fight for fifteen minutes straight, then rotate out with a rested man taking his place. They would drink wine and rest, then rotate back in.
This meant a well rested and constant flow in combat,

But yes these things happened.

And what exactly are those?
>>
>>3108715
Those are just preview images for paid packs of high rez pics for the purposes of photobashing. Photobashing is a common concept art style where you combine pieces from a bunch of pics then blend them together and brush in the gaps. The only difference between these packs and a normal photo pack is that these were taken by people who do that art style a lot so they know what to look for.

I'm not a fan of photobashing so I save the pack preview images because they're great drawing references.

A lot of people didn't die in combat for the most part, it seems. However, yes, if you tire, and their buddies crash into you and hold you down and start stabbing your weak points - you can die that way. Look at stabby-mc-fucking stabber right-of-center, for example.

Every man on the field was (or at least should be) supported and helped by his mates, either to take someone down or to help each other. To-fucking-date, that hasn't really been seen in popular media (and is also aided by non-lethal melees where Knights just decided to punch the shit out of each other during tourneys).

>How the fuck do you even fight this?
Groups of men smash into each other and poke each other with whatever weapons they have and bash each other with whatever shields they have, after other groups of men fling arrows or javelins or musket balls at them while advancing. Eventually group tires, loses it's nerve or just gets too many dead and the rest run.
And at some point more groups do the same.
And then someone loses.
Or night falls and both sides retreat.
This basic style lasted until roughly the 1860s when muzzle loading weapons began to get replaced by breechloaders

>Fully armored swordsmen wasn't really THAT much used, right?
Early on not a lot of full plate due to cost. Later on it was cheaper and a lot more soldiers had full plate.

You beat it by basically beating the shit out of the person until they were tired and submitted so you could ransom them back for money. Or you wrestled them until you could stick your knife or sword point through their visor, or somewhere less protected like their armpit or neck.

Its Charlemagnes campaign to crush the Avars

He is the guy in golden armour. he had been fighting the Avars for two days without any success, then prayed and an angel came down (the white one in front of him with the wings) leading the good guys to victory.
His sword is broken as symbol that he gained the victory thanks to his faith not his military might.

Though my personal opinion is that he won it simply because he somehow got fucking field artillery and full plate cav at the end of the 8th century.

No sorry. The misconception comes for the fact that some Viking women were buried with weapons. However the practice was a mark of status and not evidence of women in combat. The historical record if very clear that women never fought alongside men in any society we known of.

These women weren't leading the charge and fight hand to hand. They served as de facto leader, not as foot soldiers and most likely never personally saw combat.

Joan of Arc was a commander not a frontline fighter. Even then she had a literal aide tent full of experienced male officers who had been trained since childhood and fought in battle against the English since the age of 15 so all credit cannot be solely on her.

Anne Bonny was a pirate. Not a warrior

Mary Read same as above

Anne Dieu same as above

Clearly your cherrypicking and lack of examples says it all.
There are a few examples of warrior women though around the world but they are very rare and most sources are from folklore and legend rather than historical. Males have always been the warrior sex naturally just by biology and genetics never-mind cultural, religious and racial reasons.
>>3154213
Nope.
That argument was shut down by a female anthropologist who examined her skeleton which was flawless with not one sign of physical combat and that the jewelry was pretty and not related to any spiritual belief pointing out Viking men served both Catholic and Muslim kings and caliphs who rewarded them in gold, loot from campaigns and the like. You're referring to the "MUSLIM SWEDISH VIKING WOMAN" meme right?
---

Anyway on topic. Illustration of the Battle of Watling Street. The decisive battle that secured Roman rule in Britain for another 340 years and ended the extremely destructive and costly Iceni rebellion led by Boudica,. Tactitus said 80,000 Britons were killed to just 400 Roman soldiers. Boudica herself was raped and killed but not before watching her daughters being raped and killed by Roman soldiers.

how do you figure pirates fought? the simple fact they did not endow any "political" leader like a "king" or "whatever they call themselves" does NOT make them less of a warrior person.

I admit they are rare, sure but this has to do, not with the fact they aren't capable of fighting but the simple fact that men did not allow them to fight. culturally banned from becoming warriors by birth.

As your examples of Boudica explains, generals of other armies were never or rarely raped...women always were.

simply Adam and Eve BS from the start. Males want to dominate...

Look at Ghadaffi's bodyguard, look at FARC soldiers, look at the Chinese bodyguards, both eneuchs and women.

sorry dude you just whimply want to enforce your dickology suace on everything, that makes you even weaker then your examples of what is and isn't a warrior. Even though I am cherrypicking, I am picking the right ones.

go be conservative and rust into submission.

You have such an inaccurate interpretation of history. The story of the past is not oppression of women by men. Life for both men and women was unbelievably difficult and fraught with tragedy and each sex had their unique hardships. Men have sacrificed their labor and lives for the care and protection of women and children throughout history. There were demands placed on men ( i.e. military conscription, hard labor) that women were sheltered from. Men have built and developed our civilizations which have benefited women greatly and has allowed them to take their rightful places as equal citizens. You have been brainwashed by dishonest propaganda designed to pit women against men. We should remember the tremendous sacrifices that men and women of the past have made so that we can live in relative peace and prosperity in the modern world.
>>
>>3161192
There are biological difference between men and women. If you're so certain that those differences have no impact on combat ability then there should be no sex segregation in society. I'm sure you would be happy to be placed in a male prison for the sake of gender equality.

Think of the difference in strength between 6 foot 180 pound man and a 6 foot 240 pound or 6ft 290 pound man.
That's literally the difference between the average man and Ronnie Coleman.

there are differences by all means, but there are more then 1 way of fighting.

In many things we are equal and in others we are not. sure physical strenght and build might increase the power of certain actions, but there are many other ways of fighting or going to war.

it is not simply brawling with an armor and a sword.

All I say is that we have no fucking clue, accept for...here it comes!!!! records like books, stories and hearsay, mostly written by men! because men were able to go to places where they could learn to spread history and facts, while most women were doing (>>3161823) their biological chores << like he claims they did.

I say there are enough examples of women who say....fuck that shit I'll fight for my choices.

period.

so who are the dumbfucks reading the words of men about women...claiming it is true by fact....you.

have a nice life.

Again you demonstrate your lack of knowledge and justify it by claiming we can know nothing about historical women because there is a vast male conspiracy to oppress women. (convenient since it allows you to not have to back up any of your statements).
Our knowledge of history doesn't just rely on books written by men. Archaeology and
Osteology (There are many women in these fields) are used in conjunction with historical records. Historians don't take every record as absolute truth. There are various methods available to them that aids them in either corroborating or disproving those records. Just because history doesn't conform to your ideological viewpoint doesn't mean you can simply throw it out. Historical research relys heavily on science so you would have to be prepared to throw that out also.
>>
>>3166190
The main fault in your argument is that you fail to understand that ancient women were not like modern women. Ancient women were subject to the cruelties of nature it is only in very recent times (last 50 years) we have been able to overcome some of those constraints.
- No birth control
- No abortion
- No reliable feminine hygiene products
- No advancements in childbirth
I can not stress enough how big a role these factors played in the repression of women. The ancient world women inhabited was a much more dangerous place and women simply could not take the same risks that modern women are able to. Scientific innovation ( often the result of men) has allowed women to have equal right and not political forces likes feminists like to claim.

feminism is the force that drives scientific innovation (especially when led by men) to even look into womens issues.
>>
>>3167122
>- No birth control
>- No abortion
>- No reliable feminine hygiene products
>- No advancements in childbirth

a primary goel of feminism is to make sure woman have access to these things.

They may have been developed through scientific research, but they are distributed politcally.
>>
>>3168583
goal*
>>
>>3168578
Modern Feminism is distinctly antiscience. Biology is completely written out of women studies courses. Second and Third wave feminism continually denies the legitimacy of the biological basis of gender, the role of evolution, neurological sex differences and even the existence of hormones. It's safe to say that feminism in its current form is stultifying scientific research not advancing it
>>
>>3168583
Well the debate is whether these things should be be distributed politically.

Yes and knights would often fight using the half-hand technique (griping the blade with a gauntleted left hand ) to better target the gaps and weak stops in armor, so our perception of how knights fought is entirely different for the historical reality.

Maybe not as saturated as in the illustration, but the pre-modern world was a lot more colorful than we usually imagine. Appearance is the easiest way to convey prestige and allegiance, so if they could afford it, they tried to be as colorful.as possible. At the very least they made sure their armor was properly maintained and didn't look like shit.
Also camo wasn't really a major factor until recently.

Was mixed up by cavalry and ranged weapons. Looking at history before cannons and guns, most groups that were successful military had advances in one of four areas:
>Discipline so the men didn't run when tired and losing (Romans etc)
>Cavalry so they could out maneuver and flank (Mongols etc.)
>Ranged so they could keep most men out of the meat grinder (Franks, English etc.)
>Siege weapons and artilary, so they didn't have to march into a fortified enemy/ wait them out (Romans, Huns etc)

For most of European history though, battles were just men with spears smashing at each others shields until one side routed. Then long and lengthy sieges of castles.
