I have been wanting to start an Apocalypsis thread. The majority of which is in illuminated manuscripts, so here goes. I have more than enough to fill a thread but feel free to contribute.

"Apocalypse" (ἀποkάλυψις) is a Greek word meaning "revelation", "an unveiling or unfolding of things not previously known and which could not be known apart from the unveiling". As a genre, apocalyptic literature details the authors' visions of the end times as revealed by an angel or other heavenly messenger. The apocalyptic literature of Judaism and Christianity embraces a considerable period, from the centuries following the Babylonian exile down to the close of the Middle Ages.

Another great idea. I'll toss in a few of my icons as well.

This is a rarity: a Greek depiction of the events in the Apocalypse, inspired by Renaissance imagery, by George Klontzas.
>>
>>3378739
My mistake: the file name says Klontzas, but the signature says it's Theodore Poulakis,.

Thats interesting, and much like most of these I wish it was in better detail.

Interesting, thank you. Found this version, easier to see the Tetramorph at the bottom

Terrific version!
Of interest also is the Russian type of the Theotokos as the burning bush, which is just replete with OT revelatory imagery.

(Clockwise from the top left): Moses beholding the burning bush, the tree growing from the root of Jesse, Jacob's ladder, and Ezekiel's shut gate.

I really like the coloration in this one in particular, but it's confusing because the tree of Jesse seems to be depicted twice (top right corner and at the bottom)
