A thread for the science and study of drawing anime and its aesthetics. Users of this thread are encouraged to participate and learn with each other; share feedback, resources, and discuss just how to fucking draw anime. Everyone, lets learn together!>Is this /alt/?No. A thread official FAQ is pending. >this is the successor of the 'anime study thread'yes and noContinuing off with the last thread, why not do exercises focusing on drawing the head and faces, and in a variety of different angles.
>>3260033I'd like to say that I'm NOT the OP as the last few threads, but I liked the concept and feel like /alt/ is not really the place for a more dedicated approach towards specifically anime style art. I think it'd be great if we can get the ball rolling and hopefully get work done. I feel like we should try compiling a list of useful and appropriate tutorials. As things are now, if you haven't ever tried it out, why not take a look at pixiv's tutorial page?
im not op , but if a mod decides to delete this thread at least say why , the last two threads got deleted and as far as i know it didn't violate any rule so why . if the reason is because theres already a similar thread (alt) that shit is nothing but namefags and circlejerking and rarely you get any advice
>>3260042The thing that bugs me most about /alt/ is the fact that it's not dedicated to anime, and I assume that there's quite a lot of people interested in studying and working on anime style stuff specifically, myself included. You can't really get that done there in /alt/.Also, started working on a similar character sheet, will post as I progress through it.
>>3260042lately I've notice a lot of threads 404, even now i have one open in the tab which got deleted like 1h agoI get the feeling we got a new mod for those hours in the last few weeks
>>3260051But why'd they delete the old threads though? That's what I want to know since it wasn't shitposty at all, and people were trying to get stuff done. A way better thread than the one bitching about anime girls in art galleries or the dude who supposedly paid for his comission upfront and then didn't get what he wanted, all while never posting anything, and just shitposting. Anyways, let's try not to let this derail the thread.
i having problems to get the neck width right since usually in anime style the neck is pretty thin , but if i draw a thin neck the the rest ; shoulders ,arms , ribcage needs to have similar proportions or it will look like shitheres a pic sorry for chicken scratch
>>3260080It doesn't look so bad. Don't see what the problem is
Let's talk goals. >Why do you want to draw anime style?>What do you have in mind when you think of what you want to make? For me, I want to learn how to make clean linear and then master shading. Maybe something like Amgami's artist
I want to read manga that merges styles from Japan, America, and Europe... I thought North African history would help bridge the gap, ironically. I'd like to throw Tezuka's cat from 'Queen of Sex' into Philip Mackie's drama just to see what the interplay would be.Anyway, what sort of mouth should the woman in the left-hand side have? This has been bugging me for some time.
>>3260080The problem is OVERTHINKING.Its when you know the style calls for a thin neck, and you exaggerate because in your head, you keep thinking, it has to be thin, it has to be thin. The neck you drew is already thin. It doesn't take much. You just need to get out of the "What I think I see" mentality to "What I actually see" which is why Keys to drawing / drawing on the right side of the brain is recommended first even before loomis. And yes they do apply to anime style drawings.
Apologies to Higashimura & Ishida.
>>3260180was the camel toe really necessary
could someone here explain to me what they think the fundamental difference is between so-called "anime" style characters and every other so-called "style" that's derivative of real-world objects? I've gotten to thinking lately there isn't much of one, but I can't help but feel that's being narrow-minded when I keep seeing threads with this sentiment cropping about.
>>3260193Look at every other so called "style" that's derivative of real world objects, and then look at anime style shit. Notice how different it is now?
>>3260191You know it is.
back in the day i made a lot of "animu studies", i traced the basic forms in photoshop and then draw them in my sketchbook i learned a lot that way.here's an old example.
>>3260210Nice work, I knew tracing paid off.
>>3260130Forced smile, like she doesn't want to be there but still has to.As for manga that merges styles, it's not really a big thing from what I know. What Japan does is take things and adapt it to its own, so you'll see more like styles adapted to more anime style stuff. Honestly, something I like about anime style shit is how things are adapted to look anime as opposed to the other way around.
As a fellow weeaboo faggot I’m glad this thread is back.>>3260039What site is this a screenshot of?
>>3260267pixiv, like I said in my post
>>3260039I'll look later, but I think everyone starting to draw anime should learn the gimmick anime construction tutorial that lets you draw someone standing. I remember it being one of the first things I've read when learning to draw like over a decade ago, but it gets good results.
>>3260039>tfw you go and look but a lot of the tutorials are about boxes like /ic/ always talked about>https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=manga&illust_id=51614935Maybe things have changed. I thought this one was interesting though.
What is the hardest thing for you guys to get? I can't fucking zero in on how to do eyes
>>3260305But eyes are one of the very first things any anime newbie can do. I recommend some Mark Crilley if you know what I mean.
>>3260310>But eyes are one of the very first things any anime newbie can doBut one of the last things they can do right. Mark Crilley to this day can't draw convincing anime eyes. The moment you see a cropped Mark Crilley drawing of anime eyes, you instantly know they were drawn by a western hobbyist trying to emulate anime.
>>3260305I cannot understand heads and skinny necks for the life of me. I'd like to consider myself beyond novice but I still have to heavily reference anime art to understand how they work. Shit sucks.
>>3260310They're arguably the hardest part of the style, and as the other anon said, not easy for westerners to get down. It's not just about sizing, but placement as well. Westerners tend to get fucked over by where the eyes are placed, since they tend to place them more centered than in anime. Their shape too throws people off, and there's a fine line between too much detail and lack of it.
>scared to post anything because I know a sweaty hotpocket eating runt will delete the thread for no reasonI'm going to go whine to Hiro on /qa/
>>3260416Just do it anyways. This thread is going by fine so far. Let's keep our chins up.
>>3260416I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this. I will be so fucking pissed if I draw something again and post it again and this whole thing gets deleted AGAIN.
keep it one thread anitards
>>3260158>"What I actually see"it can only be applied to drawing from referenceunless you're some prodigy who can clearly see every detail of what's in your mind
critique, wanna make her cuter
>>3260444That's what they were talking about. Even when imitating another artist's style you're using their work as reference, and "draw what you actually see" applies just the same. There are still proportions and guidelines/construction lines that can be drawn between landmarks. It's enough that when double checked someone who's using an anime picture as reference can still realize a neck is not as thin as they thought, eyes are not as big as they thought, etc. Stylized work can still be analyzed in an objective way like that.
>>3260444No it's doesn't have to apply to reference.Remember all those pictures where the sun is the corner you drew when you are a little kid?You make up shit all the time. What is happening is you are thinking you have to make up a thinner neck when it's already thin.

>>3260095I want to be able to draw characters for the friends that I don't have yet
Seeing a few people redrawing that anon's R. Mika girl reminded me of something I wanted to try that I think would be a good exercise. Taking real people and trying to draw them in an anime style. IMO a lot of the best anime artists have a good understanding of this and are able to use real faces to add character to their work. Akira and Dragonball are good examples of this imo. I think it could be really helpful to see how real forms can be translated since that's literally what stylizing is.I don't mean to do it like this chart but it was the only pic I found that kind of showed what I meant.
>>3261081this idea seems fun enough for a thread on its own, also shows that having realism as a base will make drawing anything stylized much easier and hopfully lead begginers in the right direction.
>>3261086>LET'S MAKE ANOTHER THREADlmfao you weebs are cancer
>>3261081>redrawing that anon's R. MikaOh shit, so that wasn't original? Fuck, that would've been nice to know before. Also explains that weird square thing that I wasn't sure was shading or blush. Oh well
>>3261088But mister Crabs no reason to be so mean.
>>3260095>Why do you want to draw anime style?Anime is pretty much a big influence in my life and I have this story in my mind for more than 6 years which I want to make the art for (In anime style ofc). It works really well as a motivation for drawing.>What do you have in mind when you think of what you want to make? Either draw for what's trending right now in the anime art community or make some designs for muh story. If no ideas come to mind then it simply calls for fundie grinding until I get an idea of what to make
>>3260500His stuff always makes me uncomfortable when I look at it.
>>3261086It'd work as a thread on its own just like any Study thread but I think it should be done in this thread. I'd like to see these threads used for anime specific studies and exercises that we can do and then discuss ways to bring our work closer to the reference or other inspiration/source material.>>3261091I wasn't 100% sure if it was R. Mika anyway, the hair was a little darker in the drawing than I would expect blonde hair to be. You're not alone.
>>3261136btw this still WIP, kinda playing around with my methods of shading, and I guess it wont hurt to post some WIP here
>>3261141Are you right handed by any chance?
>>3261157Leftie here, why ask?
>>3261081#3 looks the best
>>3261170Thinking about it now, people could use the chart to decide what level they want to go for. They can put the number next to their drawing so people know whereabouts they were aiming with their stylization. That way even though everyone's using the same reference photo not everyone is locked into trying to do the same kind of style.
>>3261081>>3261181The thing is, that chart's kinda obsolete by now.
>>3261159You have a skewing. From top right to bottom left.It usually indicates a right hander who doesn't draw with his arm but rests his hands and mostly uses his wrist and fingers to push the pen.Sometimes small tablets are the cause of this unconscious skewing also as the drawing surface is small they feel they don't need to draw with the arm.
I like Soejima's (Persona, etc.) art style a lot, but whenever I try to copy it, my drawings turn out crummy. The eyes are so hard to copy, and I've noticed I have to put the nose lower than I usually do. Any advice?
>>3261136you need to use some kind of construction , i don't know how you didn't notice it
>>3261185I mean it need only serve to give a general idea of what the artist intended to do with their caricature, it doesn't have to be treated as gospel. People don't even have to specifically aim for one of the styles on it. It'd be nice though to be able to let people know what they're going for instead of having to explain it and hope people get it, and that would help people critique more effectively. One of the worst problems I see all the time in the Alt thread is people giving critiques that don't account for what style a drawing is aiming for. Which is not to say 'muh style', but it does make a difference if someone's trying to add defined muscles to a chibi drawing.
>>3260080Stop chicken scratching. The lines should be decisive.
>>3261081An attempt was made. I feel fucking disgusted by myself.
>>3261091damn that meant my drawing didnt capture the character
>>3260305>>3260579Copy other eyes. Go back and forth between each eye to make sure everything is spaced right.
>>3261216I think these are pretty good. Ideally though I'd like to set up the exercise so that everyone is drawing from the same photo for reference, to give a stable basis for everyone to judge and critique the effectiveness of the stylization. If anyone else does it before we can make this an official thing though, at least include the photo you worked from.
>>3261218does no one listen to me? lol, like i said before, if you learn to draw realistic eyes, then you can pretty much play around with the proportions and stylize them however you want. The same with pretty much every other aspect in drawing.study the asaro head that helped me a ton.https://sketchfab.com/models/6238cb4ace5d4a9aa9a881ec800dbdd1
>>3261214that comes with mileageto practice good linework use your arm instead of your wrists
>>3261227>if you learn to draw realistic eyes, then you can pretty much play around with the proportions and stylize them however you wantRealistic is just another style. If someone studies anime eyes, they'll learn how to draw them. It's the same as anything else.
>>3261229There's no reason they can't attempt long correct lines instead of jiggling their pencil back and forth. This isn't a practice thing; they do or don't.
>>3261224If everyone uses the same reference it’s just going to devolve into another ”draw my OC in your style!” thread. I think it’d be more interesting if you had to roll/pick a random reference and a random style of anime (80s, Toriyama, K-On, One, Bkub etc.) and do your best. Being forced to adapt to an art style would also force you to actually study it, which is what this thread is about.
>>3261232anime is based of reality ,the way they draw eyes are just a "simplification" of real eyes. You will only end up with symbol drawing if you only study anime. Do you think the most skilled mangakas dont know how to draw realistically? just look at muratas drawings
>>3261234It is quite clear to see that the chicken scratching is due to trying to find the lines they want. The best advice to find the root of the problem and apply a solution for that and that is construction.Once you get a few landmarks going, it is easier to find where the start of a line should be and the end of the line, allowing one fell swoop of the pen.He even apologized for it knowing that he shouldn't.
http://portraitsfordrawing.tumblr.com/randomrandom selection of faces
A shitty drawing for my shitty iseaki. Why can't photoshop do realtime halftoning ?If I do the smart object thing then I can't edit it without becoming a circus performer,
>>3261217I hardly vidya, so it's more of a I didn't know who she was.
>>3261189Why not try your hand at Makoto and then post it to see what's wrong? I have a hard time with eyes too
>>3261240I like the idea of rolling a style to have to imitate, but I don't think there's anything wrong with everyone using the same photo. Unlike the draw my oc in your style thing, it's a photo of an actual person, just like in the beginner thread. It's a model. I guess maybe someone in the world could consider it their oc but it's probably about as neutral as you can get. And I think the benefits of having a standard base for critiquing everyone's drawing outweighs the need to set people's minds at ease that they might be drawing someone else's homework or something. It might be good to have several references to choose from though, so people who feel like they really need to improve at drawing either gender for example could work on that even while practicing this.
>>3261246This is why westerners can't anime. I studied eyes out the ass and got them down fine, realistically. But when trying my hand at anime, it's hard to move into the style. If you have zero art experience and just want to draw anime exclusively, forego /ic/'s meme advice and just study anime and draw things like they do, not like how it looks. Because 100% of the time, it trips up westerners, and has them stuck in their distinctive style.
>>3261246There is no drawing "real" eyes. When people say realistic art, they are only talking about a style.>You will only end up with symbol drawing if you only study anime.People attempting to draw realistic art are just as susceptible to symbol drawing. There are many people on this board who look at a reference and attempt to draw the things they can name instead of the shapes they see. This leads to flat drawings with extremely sharp noses and eyes. Even worse, they'll use construction to avoid having to see. This is not the fault of realism, this is because the artist is not trusting their eyes.
>>3260256Yes, I like the unvarnished anime style but to combine Japanese chqracter drama with deadpan humour would be very nice.Do you think that woman should be severe, or just clicking her tongue?
>>3261271when i say realistic i mean to study the structure, the planes, not to just mindlessly copy photos. You will avoid symbol drawing that way
>>3261248>It is quite clear to see that the chicken scratching is due to trying to find the lines they want. No, the issue with chicken scratching is specifically that the artist is not trying to find the lines he or she wants. That's what chicken scratching is. The artist is afraid to look for the line, so instead of drawing and examining multiple restatements, they try every feasible line at the same time and hope that the noise will approximate the correct line. They are deliberately avoiding finding the line.>The best advice to find the root of the problem and apply a solution for that and that is construction.Construction will not save him from refusing to find the line. The root of the problem is he is not willing to draw a bad line and fix it.
>>3261284It's honestly better to just copy photos (not mindlessly, but even that would get you further than studying the structures/planes of realism). You can not "symbol draw" a style anyways, that makes no sense. You either copied it right or you didn't. I will say that planes and structure are good for making sure everything is correctly facing the right direction (perspective), but that's not something to worry about when you can't even draw or copy.
>>3261284To me, it sounds like you're saying people should prioritize construction and perspective, but those should always be second to seeing. Putting construction and perspective before seeing is symbol drawing. Copying is seeing. Construction and perspective are necessary, because seeing is so hard, but they are not the priority.
>>3261288>artist is not trying to find the lines>they try every feasible line at the same time and hope that the noise will approximate the correct lineI hope you reread what you wrote and realize that its trying to find the line.>Construction will not save him from refusing to find the line.It will help him visualize where the lines should be and find the line he needs to draw. He is a beginner. Even Kim Jung Gi visualizes some sort of construction in his head albeit just a box to figure out where his lines go.It's like walking in a room in the dark.
>>3260997Do you draw characters for the you who is the friend of you?
Is everything Japanese people draw automatically anime?
>>3261136Fix your anatomy dude holy shit
>>3261303No.There are japanese people who draw loomis too.
>>3261298>I hope you reread what you wrote and realize that its trying to find the line.It is not trying to find the line. When people chicken scratch, they either rapidly draw extremely short lines as if they're shading or trace over the same line over and over. When they are done, they cannot even point out which line is the correct one. They cannot tidy up. They cannot erase the wrong lines, because they do not know which lines are wrong and which line is right.
>>3261309Then what is anime? Is this anime?
>>3261316>because they do not know which lines are wrong and which line is right.Exactly why construction helps.
>>3261081Post exercise now
>>3261316They are trying to find the line. They don't have to know because the brain instinctively knows which are the right ones and focuses on them, it's why chicken scratching works at all. Obviously they likely lack the skill to fix it up, but that's not really something you can know unless you asked the person drawing. It only takes effort to fix it up if they wanted.
>>3261319forgot the image
>>3261315It's still animeish
>>3261315I once google translated a review for a Loomis book and someone complained that the women looked too old and mature.
>>3261319Anime is anything that derives from Japanese Animation. It's basically synonymous with style since most people don't really care about Japanese artists that don't do anime. This one for instance has anime features, so I would say it is anime. Just look at how the facial structure is done as well as the hair. There's other stuff too, but you wouldn't mistake it for some model drawing. However, it doesn't really matter if you define it anime or not because it's like I said before synonymous with style, it's just how they drew it.
>>3261320Construction cannot help them if they cannot see; they'll resort to symbol drawing. They cannot see if they cannot copy. They cannot copy if they cannot find a line. They cannot find a line if they chicken scratch.>>3261326>They don't have to know because the brain instinctively knows which are the right ones and focuses on them, it's why chicken scratching works at all.Yes, chicken scratching works to some extent, but it's a poor illusion and it's a crutch for the artist.>skillIt's not an issue of skill. It's a choice. All they have to do is attempt to draw a correct line and restate until it's right. The work is almost identical to chicken scratching, but they have to take the time to judge their lines before they restate.
>>3261339Construction is something that to avoid symbol drawing>All they have to do is attempt to draw a correct line and restate until it's rightThat is what he is trying to do. Why do you think he can't do it in as few lines as you want. Because he is new. Do you think a new person can just judge what is right off the bat which is the correct line? How do they figure out the correct line? Does it magically just come when someone tells them to stop chicken scratching?Did you just want the to clean it up, after finding the correct line? Then just tell them to go over with a kneaded eraser and draw the line in one go.
>>3261361This is probably the best advice to get over chicken scratching. I used to do it and I can't remember what prompted it but eventually I started going back and cleaning up the lines with an eraser. It seemed to help me be able to visualize forms being indicated with a single line, because not long after I was able to start drawing things with better contour lines.

>>3261404germany pls go
>>3261485In this case he’s entirely correct. Those are some awful lines. Most of you still need to learn how to wrap lines to suggest form, and create overlaps. There aren’t a lot of resources available on that so you’ll have to carefully study how top-tier artists like Otomo, KJG, Moebius, etc pull it off. Draftsmanship is a vital skill.

>>3261527Where did you get the idea it was a final product?

>>3261546this, copy others and on the side learn things from good sources like perspective and gesture.
>>3261361>Do you think a new person can just judge what is right off the bat which is the correct line? No, I don't expect him to know if the line is good enough or not every time, but if he can't tell, why restate? If he draws an obviously wrong line, then he should restate. If after drawing another part of the picture he realizes that an earlier line is wrong, then he should restate the old line. I'm not upset with anyone. I'm frustrated because this is not a matter of skill or practice, but you're acting as if it is. I don't expect him to get every line right in a few tries. I think the main reason people chicken scratch is because they're afraid their drawings look flat or plain without the noise, but that's not true. The best part of his drawing is probably the hair. Despite having many restatements, it still looks better than the head, neck, or torso.>Did you just want the to clean it up, after finding the correct line? Then just tell them to go over with a kneaded eraser and draw the line in one go.This takes us back to what I said earlier. He may have drawn the right line, but he can't find it. Instead of drawing dozens of lines and trying to carve a correct line out with an eraser, it would be far easier to slow down and draw slower.
>>3261522Notice that you can tell most of those lines apart and they have large gaps between them. He isn't just scribbling, he's restating the lines so that they fit better. Some parts of the drawing are very busy because he restated several times. Other spots are very quiet because he was happy with his lines right away.
>>3261546cute, i like nu-anime best

>>3261565I don't understand what you're asking, sorry.
>>3260033>discuss just how to fucking draw animeMy anime should be realistic. I'm tired of all this silly cartoon bullshit shitting up the artform. I don't want people to look at my picture and say "that's cute". I want them to think it is impressive, stylish or beautiful. Pic related is how I draw my anime, and you faggots should do it too.
>>3261572Now draw 3/4 view. :^)
>>3261570Look at the hair.See the sketch lines for the circle of the head (on top specifically)This shows that he actually can draw lines if he thinks it's correct. The chicken scratch starts below the hair where he has no idea on how to draw below that point and was trying to feel it out.Now that he has an "idea" of where the lines should go, what makes you think he can't lightly erase and draw over it like he displayed with the hair?
>>3261572I'll draw whatever I want scrub:^)
>>3261572The only thing people are gonna think is that you are the biggest Dunning Kruger in this entire thread.
>>3261581I don't think he knows where the lines of the hair go any better than the rest of the body. He had to restate many times with the hair, but it's still not nearly as noisy as the body. The bangs are especially confident. He could go over the hair with an eraser and clean it up fairly well, but I don't see how he could possibly clean the torso.
>all this shitpostingim the fag who drew this>>3260080 i was studying the proportions and all that stuff , but i wanted to know a way or measurement to get neck /traps/shoulders right like the landmarks to draw the head eye/ ear , 3 eyes distance...etc should have specified that.and no i don't know shit from the neck and below hence the chicken scratch and that was a 2min sketch that's why i didn't even bother to clean it up
>>3260147bitch what if they're in different languages
>>3261600>he wasn't even replying the whole time>other people were arguing in his steadWhatever, keep it up, anon. You're going to make it.
>>3261590Well, let them keep dwelling in their generic moeblob then.I just wanted to give my 2 cents to this thread, and my opinion is that more anime artist should try drawing in a more realistic style.Like someone already pointed out, go and study artists like Otomo, or Nihei. Those guys really know how to make good art. I'm not a very good artist myself, mainly because I don't draw often enough, but even though I am not very good, I still can draw more or less realistically if I want.
>>3261600I was waiting for you to come back and freak out.
>>3261603I get what you're saying. Most japs can draw both cute moe shit and realistic stuff well.
>>3261600Yeah we all knew that it's because you didn't know that you were chicken scratching and wasn't doing it intentionally. The guy though was so persistent even claiming that you tried to pass it off as finished.
how the fuck do you draw faces
>>3261623Draw yours and we'll tell you where you went wrong.
>>3261081Post some exercise OP
>>3261630most of the time it's going well until i draw the eyebrows and it goes to shit
>>3260305getting the curves right for hair,
>>3261253looks cool, where is your protagonist headed?
>>3260305Actually sitting down and drawing. It seems so senseless to me to draw since projects would just take ages anyway..
>>3261646have you even tried to read one of those anatomy books
>>3261646Look up an anime you like and copy one of the faces/heads for me. Copy it right too as expected.
>>3261646Also, you have all the basic features there, but anime is more detailed than that, so you need to go look at references and the best way to do that is by copying one.
>>3261572That looks gay though
>>3261683show me a better manga portrait
>>3260305Necks, i don't know why but most of them looks pretty awkward.
>>3261692Just don't think about them so much. All necks really exist for is to connect the head and body.
>>3261675>>3261674copy freehand or trace?

>>3261702post better portrait than murata, nigger
>>3261136Dat tooooooooooooorso tho
>>3261646You are just drawing facial anime symbols on a head shape hoping they will look right. It will never work out that way, I know because I used to do that myself.
>>3261717then what made it work out for you?
>>3261720Everyone learns different, and my method may not be universally the best. But I started learning how to draw proper skull/head construction and then learned what to exaggerate from that for anime style.
>>3261687Literally anything since your shit can hardly be called either manga or anime. Definitely book cover tier, and certainly not eastern ones.
>>3261706Look up Takehiko Inoue. He also makes portraits in a similar style, except that his characters don't look like hardcore gays with hosepipe ears.
>>3261727>can hardly be called either manga or animeAre you fucking retarded? You probably also think Yoshitaka Amano animes are not "real anime" because they don't feature girls with eyes as big as their balloon titties.
>>3261728Not that guy but damn. This guy's work is fucking gorgeous.
>>3261702>>hair looks like spaghettiHow dare you
>>3261734i step snek
>>3261730>>3261733Picturing it in motion, there's hardly anything eastern about it. Sorry, that's just how it is.
>>3261732Yep, Inoue is one of the bests. Vagabond is a masterpiece (Blade of the Immortal was still better though).
>>3260579kill me pete
>>3261738Explain to me please what makes a drawing "eastern", and where my drawing lacks this "eastern style". I'm waiting.
alright drew something, also did some dynamic sketching exercises and gesture drawings.
>>3261748Needs more Loomis.
>>3261746Are you Japanese?
>>3261749don't we all?
>>3261750Does this play a role? I don't draw moeblob, I usually try to draw more realistically and darker/spiritually, but my style is still obviously manga style.
>>3261748Cute, you're definitely going to make it with that kind of art.
>>3261754It sure does, now answer the question. Not that I need to know, since I can tell just by looking at your art.
>>3261758>It sure doesThen what is your fucking problem?
>>3261764>Then what is your fucking problem?I don't have a problem. You're the one getting anally ravaged because I don't think your shit looks eastern style enough. I'm just calling it as I see it, but sorry about the stick up your ass though.
>>3261768>implying I give a shit about what some random faggot thinks about my styleYou are just a butthurt waifu tard who is mad that not everyone jerks it to his cartoon figurines.
>>3261771You and me both anon.
yall niggas need jesus
>>3261774Wrong, the savior of anime is KyoAni.
>>3261732I don't think it's that good. Just my opinion though

>>3261779i know that feel my nigga. just gimme fuckin more haruhi or something
>>3261728>Takehiko InoueI'm personally fond of Yusuke Murata and this guy's works. No need to shit on other manga artists, anon
>>3261779K-ON was a masterpiece tho
I want /a/ to leave.
>>3261786this is our board soon, dealwith it
>>3261784I wasn't trying to shit on the artist, just telling it how it is. Murata obviously is a comedy artist, and that also shows in his designs, which can look weird/comical.
>>3261786>says /v/Doesn't matter anyways /ic/ is a place for /a/ and /v/ to come together despite their conflicts.
>>3260033Can we have a link or if someone can put together references on this kind of stuff? Emotions and posing would be cool
>>3261798Usually you look for your own refs, anon.
>>3261798yeah look for it yourself you lazy fuck
Trying to figure out how to draw anime heads.c's are copies, i's are from imagination
>>3261805How do you get heads so well proportioned? >inb4 loomis
>>3261805Are copies based off of the Persona artist?
>>3261798google pics for settei/せってい, the japs term for character sheetsYou're lucky I was searching for the same thingalso, prev /ic/ thread for char sheetshttps://boards.fireden.net/ic/thread/3215808/
>>3261806I don't think I've got that completely figured out. I try to just follow the attached image which is based on loomis. The height of the head (excluding scalp) divided into equal thirds. Micheal Hampton provides good head construction information as well.>>3261809Yep
>>3261572I think your style is really nice do you have a blog/instagram?
>>3261820no, im too busy jerking it to suzu ichinose atm
>>3261823>little girl looking jav starsNinomiya waka is for true patricians
How do you render shit properly?I'm using SAI.My linework always looks awful, and it's not only my lack of skill, it has something to do with the way brushes are configured I guess, or maybe the stabilizer tool, honestly I can't tell. Also, I have no idea of what tools to use for shading, and coloring is a pain in the ass because there are small spots that the magic wand tool doesn't reach.(Please ignore everything else that is wrong with the picture, for now I just want to know how to digital drawing)
>>3261838Keep your lighting consistent, legs look nice because they show form and have a lot of contrast. It goes from light to quite dark while the shirt and skirt lack that same lighting. Hair and face included. If you change those areas it might come out looking better.
How do I draw loli
>>3260033I find myself falling back into an anime aesthetic after having started with drawing anime, then doing a bunch of study work. Not really sure if I actually got anywhere after the years though.
>>3261856It's all about finding the right proportions. Asanagi is quite good at this for example. I don't think I've ever seen the guy draw a normal character.
>>3261856>>3260033small torsos and larger heads. Less muscle definition.
your right though, its a combination of things. all about finding the right look for yourself. Artists like zankuro really pull off the loli aesthetic of oppai chibi look really nice.
>>3261754You are livin' in 20018...
>>3261656He's headed to a never ending shitshow
>>3261779Your own fault for watching chuunibyou. Also you should watch a video about how they saved K-ON because the mange they adapted is fucking trash but the Anime is god tier in its field.
>>3261838Im for you op that you only get this >>3261843 stuff. Jesus sometimes people are not helpful at all, reading comprehension amirite. Cant help you myself though because I'm struggling with the same problems in SAI.
>>3262134im sorry for you*
>>3262134>>3261838What do you even mean?I'm all for learning brush configuration and technical tools, but that's not what's giving him the actual trouble. He's just looking at the wrong side of the coinI know this kind of thing has been parroted to death by krugers and crabs, but it really doesn't matter what brush this particular picture is drawn in, it really will not improve it by any significant measureFocus back on your fundamentals of gesture, figure drawing, construction and shape design. Using a SAI circle brush with pressure set to density is good enough for this. Actually it will be better than using any fancy brushes, since it will let you focus on the drawing itself more.
>>3261081here is my take on it,i went from a western aproach blizzard/riot style to anime, i pretty much just made the eyes bigger and took out details
>>3262163The eyes are comically large from the start and you neither have nor have maintained any distinguishing features. You went from ouiabeaux to weeaboo. At least start from old school disney princess.
Slightly related /a/ thread that raises a few good points if you just bother wading through all the shit:>>>/a/166530182
>>3262175thanks, ill try again starting from realistic proportions and cary the likeness of the character throughout the different styles.
>>3262186The only thing of truth and value in that entire thread is pic related.Maybe the points about line weight and blindly copying symbols v. knowing what they represent and why it's done that way.
You noticed how japanese people use chopsticks to eat? Maybe that's the secret. Hold your pencil like japanese chopsticks, draw, post results.
It looks so easyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cynaXAPVD0
>>3262278She is the head animator of a top animation studio which is the representative of Japanese anime. Guess how many hours she spent in drawing in a world most intense workaholic country?
>>3262278That person hasn't been drawing for only two months
The secret is the loomis head except the circle is bigger and the chin is an upside down dorito
>>3262294>The secret is the loomis head >except its notthanks for sharing this secret with us anon
>>3262294you draw a sphere and chin kinda normally, except the chin is really pointy for girls, sometimes even for men.you put the eyes lower than normal, seriously, if you put them where they'd normally be you'll always be wondering whats wrong.the rest is the same, anatomy is anatomy, even though you simplify as much as you want.
>>3262481>put the eyes lower than normal, seriouslythis.
>>3262294>>3262481stop talking about chins like it mattersnot all chins are created equal
>>3262488chins define the entire face, thoughif you think about it, western heads and anime heads' main difference (just the heads, not counting facial features) is the chin, because both start with circles just fine but you would not see those chins in most comics
>>3262493>you would not see those chins in most comicsthat's because even women have manly jaws in comics
I unironically like いたる絵
How do I unleash my inner weaboo ?

>>3261603>NiheiHis art looks retarded. This woman is like a mannequin ran into a vacuum cleaner.
how does that finger work
>>3263130am i doing it right?
>>3263130>>3263136It's exaggerated a bit. You can see this with your own hand.
did a lot of faces from imagination, I liked this one.
>>3263235not that bad , but that eyebrow in the right eye os too short even for that angle
How the fuck do I come up with poses?
>>3263290try taking them yourself, then take a photo of yourself or just remember how it felt and put it on paper.if you're a man and you're doing a sexy female pose... just... I don't know man.
>>3263303I've tried that, and get burned from going through thousands and thousands of images and none of them really being what I have in mind. >>3263307I'm not a girl though, and I draw mostly females. Even when I draw guys, I feel like things feel too stiff. >>3263310What if I want to start posting my work to places?
>>3263311Reference doesn't meant exact copy. I don't have the shrimp or falling lady image on hand, but you need to reevaluate your methods. References allow you to build your ideal pose.
>>3263311flip the reference a few times and no one would be able to tell. find references to trace from obscure websites, or just use a 3D poser
>>3262186This thread was pretty good.
>when you manage to get all the proportions and curves in a way you really like, but then cant do it againAHHHHHwell, at least i managed to draw something i really like in the first place.just gotta keep practicing more so i can do it again.
>>3263130try drawing them with shapes might help like circles and then connect them you can clearly see the artists did the same.
>>3260447I suggest you go away more from the american style and try some more delicate Japanese proportions if you want more cuteness. A big factor of cuteness is a small nose, lips and the mass of the head being at the top, like a child.
This is my first time on /ic/ and I have no idea what the fuck "Loomis" is but I'm laffin
just make another thread
