>What is /ALT/?
If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title. However, by community demand and long history, this is favorably an Anime general.
>Rules & Guidelines
(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly I encourage you to keep discussion at a civil level, but you're more than welcome to share your opinions.

>>
>>3462453
you need to learn perspective. the bg is wrong. it looks like one of those medievil pictures when they didnt know perspective.
>>
>>3462453
>>3462477

CSP has models that come with a perspective tool when you place a figure. It works really well as a reference.
>>
>>3462493
I'm using medibang at the mo as its free but as CSP is currently on sale I was thinking of getting it. The perspective tool is really selling to me I'm really bad at backgrounds but I just have to keep trying else I won't ever get better
>>
>>3462511
The model posing is the worst of any other model software but the perspective is the most useful part. I got csp to try animating myself which was pretty fun and on sale its worth it.

>>
>>3463631
You can make it just keep at it. In my opinion if youre going with more noodly looking arms you should not define the knees like that, give the legs and arms a more similar look. Also i noticed the eyes are looking two diffrent directions
>>
>>3463645
Oh shut you're right didn't notice the eye thing, and yeah I wasn't 100% sure on doing the legs noodle like. I just felt they needed a little bit of form at least.
I'll keep that in mind

how do you develop a nice, unique looking colouring style? just look at things you like and take bits from them and generally experiment?

I-I just don't care anymore?

>>
>>3464381
the biggest problem might be the width of the shoulders in comparison with the hips. she's very top-heavy. her neck is starting at a weird place between the shoulders as well, it feels too up and to the right to me.
also I can't help but feel this is a pose contrived out of a desire to not have to draw hands :)
>>
>>3464397
>the biggest problem might be the width of the shoulders in comparison with the hips. she's very top-heavy
Can you elaborate? sorry, I'm kind of slow
I'll se what I can do
And no, I just wanted to draw some sexy shoulders. I used to box and this hawt chick used to do this pose to relax her hands
>>
>>3464381
The overall pose is stiff and awkward. It doesn't immediately tell what the character is doing so I guess you need to improve on that on your next piece.

>I-I just don't care anymore?
Just drop this one and move on
>>
>>3464425
That I did, just wanted to see what you faggets have to say, thanks anon
>>
>>3464425
>The overall pose is stiff and awkward.
Additional suggestion is, try looking up at artworks/photos with sexy poses. Fill up your visual library with what you want to draw on your next piece. Don't just draw the character in a boring front facing view. Try to imagine being the cameraman and walk around your character then try to imagine what angle works best for the kind of pose you're about to draw. I hope that made sense

The arms dig into the crotch area and just kind of disappear in a way that looks weird also the back feels a bit boxy and like the other anon said the neck is in a weird spot, at that angle the neck lines up more or less with the middle of the chest. The hips are covered in the outfit and shaded in a way that makes it look like its just one continuous leg going up to the waist.
Id personally do it something like this. Not meant as a red line i just ended up picking the color red
>>
>>3464471
ok, but your pose is clearly different
>>
>>3464479
Yeah "Id personally do it something like this. Not meant as a red line"

I don't have any experience coloring them, but most anime eyes I've seen use a colored iris + a darker shade of the iris in the center, rather than a pure black in the center. More cutesy stuff tends to just omit the pupil entirely.

Take some items for reference.

Not sure if this is something recommended or not, but from time to time I will take a momentary break from my anatomy studies and will just take some time to draw completely from imagination.

This one took me quite a bit of time today, but overall, I'm happy with how it's turning out.

stared at this for 5 minutes trying to figure out what was going on
Is the bottle supposed to be cracked open? The values aren't doing a great job at defining the bottle's form, I can't tell which part's the pixie's wings and which are reflections on the bottle, it's like looking at a rorschach test
>>
>>3466905
I read this easily, but you need to fix the bottle's shape near the top and make it flatter and not so far above the neck.
I like this a lot though.
>>
>>3466924
Thanks, didn't realize that when I sacrificed rendering more of the bottle for visibility of the character, I ended up making it harder to read. Would different treatment of edges between the wings and shadows in the glass fix it up, or is more about where I arranged the values?

>>3466930
Ah, I see now. Thanks!

>>3466936
I think the way the edges were handled is fine, they suit this rendering style. Changing up the values is the most straightforward way to help readability since it's easy to see at a glance. I'd suggest leaving the hue contrast for the wings as it is now, and using more midtones for the glass, having the wings be more distinct from the glass might be visually interesting as well, just my two cents
>>

>>3466770
Study clothing/ folds and/ or use references for them. Also if you're working with a style like that you could push the pose a bit more. At the moment it looks like a figure drawing from reference where you slapped a costume from imagination on.

Definitely keep drawing from imagination, though. The sooner you start doing drawings like this, the sooner you improve and find your style.

>>3466459
Your drawings are good for a webcomic and I like the values in the page you posted. What I don't enjoy is the page composition. The slanted panels are without purpose, the action is going in all sorts of directions, there is no flow. Ideally you want a 'swoosh', y'know? A fluid motion over the page. A gesture. For that you need to put more thought into the inner panel composition (what type of shot?) as well as the page composition (leading the eye with panels, values, speech bubbles)

Thanks, I'm not a foot fag myself but I hope to leave no fetish behind.

if you feel your line too pixelated try to work with a big canvas (i always use 2k for width and 3k for heigth) the more detailed the lineart is (small objects) the bigger the canvas have to be.

about my tablet, i use a bamboo fun most of the time, so its not really about the tablet. obviously with a better one you can do a better job but sometimes the incredible amount of preasure that "better" tablets have can easly fuck up your lines/strokes.

>>3467922
most of the time i use these 2 brushes, they are pretty simple and i think you can found something similar for every software, im actually using kitra. just keep in mind that the first one dont merge in the same stroke but the other one did. sorry if you dont understand that, im bad at english. also i always turn the opacity off (press C) and then clean the line, this is why the no-merging brush is usefull, the other directly blend the line for some reason when i do that,

>>3468011
first of all, im not red matzoo, i found my art here several times so i gonna assume he is posting my shit here for some reason.

and yes, i study a lot (mostly anatomy so i can slap anime faces over it) but i learned that understanding how the body part work instead of just over referencing is a better way to archive good stylization.
>>
>>3468581
Aside from what people already said, you did a good job considering it's a more trickier pose with the perspective, as far as final art goes.

Now for the critique:
The jacket, as said before, is lacking form and rendering. A good way to prevent this with drawing clothes in general is to draw the whole thing, even the part that goes behind the body and such (just on your sketch layer, to get an idea how the thing works). Only the sleeves are showing a bit more definition because of the folds, so keep that in mind (shape -> volume; texture -> flat). Every fabric you draw has depth, so draw them accordingly.

As far as anatomy goes, be careful where you are positioning the head. With anime styled drawings it's easy to position it in an impossible spot because of how the necks work. Give it another look at how the neck is connecting to the rest of the body and you'll understand it a bit more. Torso is lacking a lot of definition and the texture warp on the breasts is not exactly helping (specially on the right side, where it's going up to meet the armpit) ; look up a few tutorials on how breasts are connected to the torso and specially how it works with your perspective.

1/2
>>
>>3468708
>>3468581
Light source seems a bit confusing considering the horns, the general shadow on the left part of the drawing and the lack of shadow on the jacket and legs. Remember to position your light source on your drawing and only remove it (if you need to remove it) after you are done with it.The shadows underneath the breasts are just plain wrong (remember your perspective). If you need help understanding it, put some simple building blocks and you'll see where exactly that shadow has to go.

I don't have much to say about the coloring. If you pay a little more attention to the shading, I think you can make the colors pop a little bit more. I feel like you hand picked the hair colors from somewhere else, considering you don't see that same contrast of colors anywhere else on the drawing.

Again, you did a good with it! I can see a lot of work went into it and you know how to use your tool. Your problems are a bit more on the fundamentals but a little bit of work and you'll be good.

>>
>>3468777
Aww don't be like that. I'm there as well anon and I feel the same way a lot of the time, but I just know its my mind bullying me. Just take a minute to recognize that every single artist that has made it before has struggled with the very thought you are thinking right now

to begin with, your lightsource seems well defined and strong, so you're good there. I think the real flaws aren't int the rendering, but moreso in the construction. You're anatomy in a few places is off ( but than again, who's isn't?) and I think that spending a few minutes to just study what part you're gonna be looking at before roughing it out will help you a ton(e.g, knees, hands, clavical). the shoulders you've made seem to be really flattening the image. think of the chest as a rectangular prism a la' scott robertson/ kim jung gi squares and you will see your trip up there. beyond that, I think that the one strand of hair in front of her arm ( the one right around the arm bend) is misplaced and you should be pushing the hair further into the background by having it go behind her.

Really anon. it's not that bad. I'm sure you might get some other anons calling you a fag or pushing you down, or you might get ignored, but really, you're coming along well. I think some longer-form figure drawing sessions would be a big help for you. where the focus isnt on the rendering but the refrence, then move on to the rendering

I would redline for you, but sadly im pretty drunk and it would be just a mess of scribbles. good luck my man, and cheers
