IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead

Just build forms, if the boxes for the ribcage and hips are hidden, use other forms. The gut will usually be an additional form itself so you can build it with a half sphere or whatever works for your goal.

>>3468307
is this the only amount of drawing you’re doing every day? how long does it take you?
>>
>>3468310
>is this the only amount of drawing you’re doing every day?
depends how busy i am. i had chores and errands and other things to do all day. so this might be all im doing. i dont fucking know i still have like 4 hours left in my day and still have other stuff to do ffs get off my balls. that and i got addicted to poke mon quest this past week.

>how long does it take you?
i dont really keep track, maybe an hour total including deciding angles and browsing refs for hair and such and cleaning up line work.
>>
>>3468318
>deciding angles
I thought you did these from imagination?
>cleaning up line work.
What does these look like before they're "cleaned up"?
>>
>>3468328
>all these in depth nitpicks for someone whos 'anon'
pls dont track me down and murder me

>I thought you did these from imagination?
well yeah, if im copying from reference i dont do much deciding do it? if its from imagination i have decide, what angle have i not done in a while, can be challanging but not too extreme as to not be comletely unrealistic, what feature shapes have i not tried, etc. all that takes a little time to think about. exactly 5 min actually.

>What does these look like before they're "cleaned up"?
hard to say, think like a mix of chicken stratch and 'thick' lines because that got drawn to close together (ive learned that with portrait and figure too thick of lines can make massive differences when you go back paint it). its worse in some places more than others. obviously i suck at lips so i might spend a lot of time redrawing stuff. i should also add that after i draw the loomis head i draw REALLY simple features, which are then redrawn later, as place holders so i can check construction and proportions and such
>>
>>3468335
I’m amused that you post your art in a critique thread and then when people start to critique you you make excuses for your bare minimum work and tell everybody to stop nitpicking and get off your balls

stop allowing the devil to distract you and make you procrastinate when you should be drawing

satan attacks you because you're a soldier of the cross. you can take the sword of the truth of God and attack the gates of hell with your art. whenever you create art in the name of Jesus Christ, every demon screams in pain and that's why they hate you. you're a threat to the devil.

pray to God and ask him for things that are impossible because with God nothing is impossible. ask him to defeat the giants in your life because our God is a giant-killer. ask him to send fire from heaven and he will. ask him to walk with you as you draw and he will. he will give you the power to create great things if you ask him

Is symbol drawing just a meme? I feel like drawing exactly what I see is way too hard when you can't draw at all. Real life is very detailed and I don't even know how to use a pencil properly. Isn't it okay to try and draw really good symbols instead of exact reality?
>>
>>3468369
your pokemon addiction doesn’t quantify as a real life responsibility, friendo. I’m just saying that if the rest of your life keeps you doing the same simple portrait sketch and no more than one hour every day, don’t be surprised when you don’t make it
>>
>>3469088
>>3468601
>>
>>3469088
symbol drawing becomes a problem when you keep getting used to drawing an exact symbol rather than abstract shapes that are influenced upon by gravity and perspective and what have you. atleast that's my understanding of why it's a bad thing.
>>
>>3469088
>Is symbol drawing just a meme?

It's an overused meme.

>>3469088
>Isn't it okay to try and draw really good symbols instead of exact reality?

It's not okay for YOU to draw really good symbols because you're too supplicating. You, as an individual, have to draw exact reality. Everybody else can symbol draw. Or symbol sculpt. Or whatever.

You probably need to measure more than just lining up landmarks. For example how many eyes across her had is, and how many eyes her hair is from the edge of her head. Or how many head widths from shoulder to shoulder. Then you'll have correct landmarks to work from.

stay positive instead of getting discouraged., you had the potential to draw the face much better rather than two splotches of dark value and some poor features.

your landmarks are superficial and you should construct the form through, rather than placing landmarks on a contour if that makes sense.

a lot of the credibility of this pose is dependent on convincing rendition of the shoulder joint which I am also really bad at

This is incredibly helpful, thank you very much! I'm sorry about the face, I'm still working out how to manage the small screen size on my tablet so I was struggling to zoom enough to draw the fine features while still being able to see the reference.

I agree about the proportions but I can't recall coming across anything about it in my studies so far outside of measuring heads but then I'm unsure of how to utilize that when the figure isn't standing upright or with foreshortening.

I'll think these notes over and try again when I wake up.

Old guys are fun to draw, I just didn't think the general would like that.
>>
>>3469506
Why the thick neck, anon? I mean I can guess that the answer is you were trying to make it match the head, but usually a stylized large head won't have a proportionate neck (instead the neck will be proportionate to the shoulders; integrating that thin cartoon neck and the head itself will come with experience stylizing things. But now that I've told you, you can at least hard-stop drawing a hulk neck on your cartoon girls!)(I assume you're practicing realistic things too. Only way to git gud at cartoons.)

this is pretty good, except the bottom of the apple is flat. and the shadow should be very dark close to the bottom of the apple. I drew for about 5 hours last night. I traced and filled in the dark on this image for warm up and practice. Basically I was just hoping to practice using my pen and trying to accurately fill in the images shape without deviating as much as possible. Essentially It was like a coloring book I guess.

Interesting but you really shouldn't "study" anime if you are trying to get good at art. Drawing anime should come after learning the basics of human anatomy and realism. Anime is just a style and it is not accurate to real life human anatomy. You'll be a lot better at this kind of art if you get a grasp on how real human bodies look instead of just copying how anime bodies look. Most anime bodies are not proportioned correctly (look at her breast placement. Way too low on her chest. And her furthermost arm looks as if her shoulder has been dislocated. Real bodies do not look like that.) You will pick up bad habits if you don't study human silhouettes and instead learn from badly proportioned drawings. Sorry for the rant
>>
>>3470846
What if I just use the cute anime girls to practice shape and color and then use real girls to practice anatomy/shading/drawing from reference. Like can I use anime girls for practicing shape and color if I turn the image upside down? Getting to fill in anime girls as a warm up gets me to sit down and start drawing every day. I don't want to learn bad habits though and am willing to practice correctly in order to achieve the ultimate goal of being able to draw girls I find are cute so I can prove to everyone that thicc waifu's are trash and that thinn waifu's with b-cup boobs are master race and have the best human figure, chiseled from the mind of man to be perfection.

>on her left arm I think her shoulder is sticking out too much and I think it's drawn like it is because her arm joint (where it meets the torso) is up too high and needs to be thicker.
>You''re either showing too much of her face or too little of her neck and the top of her left shoulder. If she's looking over her shoulder like that we need to see more of her neck and shoulder because she's not like an owl where she can just rotate her head.
>I think her thighs need cleaner and straighter lines, specifically the lateral left thigh line is weird.

Stop trying to draw stylized characters until you have the basics of construction down, and if you must draw stylized characters at least make sure everything is proportionate. The shoulders were an obvious issue that should have been noticed before you posted - try flipping your drawing to get a better idea of what you're doing
>>
>>3471107

you should work on your color choice. That blue for the pants is alarming my eyes because its so bright and saturated. You want to find a balance in colors when you choose them. I know your not aiming for realism, but look at the color choice for clothes. All the colors are fighting for dominance. It's like those websites for kids that choose bright saturated colors for everything and it makes you turn away in disgust or literally causes pain in your eyes. Tone down some colors. Not every color should be this saturated. Look at this video to see what I'm taking about

so i need need real critiques with these. im pretty sure theres so issues with the construction on the face but i havent actually studied this angle much to begin with so im having a hard time telling what, if any. as for the figure, that based off the panel below. my intent is for the blade to be pointed somewhat towards the viewer with the far elbow being extended straight out and the closer elbow arm being straight up and down if that makes sense. NOT swung like a baseball bat, but like a foreward thrust with the hilt being more horizontal

To understand how muscles work I recommend you to study foldings and wrinkles ( https://warosu.org/ic/thread/S3349311#p3351538 ) plus memorizing the measurements ( Like pic related. Just google head measurements for artists or something, print em and pin them next to your desk for reference. After some time it will become second nature to remember them and you won't even need to look at them ) and some of the bones and muscles ( I would recommend just to memorize the ones that people forget the most like the zygomatic bone. The ammount of people that draw characters without the exterior side of the eyesockets is incredible, like their ears and eyes wanna fuse togheter )

Yes. Draw just what you see. You get it.
However, anime style itself is symbol drawing so I don't think you'll get much from drawing it. Try something with more complicated shapes, angles and details. If you're able to draw from life, do it.

>>3471828
Assuming if this isn't baiting then no. Also no such thing as talent in my opinion dude, I treat drawing like I treat music, if you suck at the fundamentals/basics then you just suck and you should grind/asking tips, nothing in between

I'm pure beginner in drawing but for example like when a square is supposed to be angled at 45 degrees with length around 1:10 compared to another shapes in a painting, then just draw it like that. I suppose that's the point of life drawing isn't it? The music equivalent is that when you press a note, if that note doesn't sound as good and clear like when it's being played by an experienced player, you just seek what's the cause and fix it by grinding/asking tips

Subjectivity only exists in non fundamentals/basics stuffs in my opinion. I just treat that cute animu girl in cold blooded way by drawing those so many small shapes as close as possible to the original lol. Just my 2 cents

The anatomy is very awkward, the human body isn't made of perfectly curved outlines. But the pic is done already so anatomy aside you could push the color values a lot more. Pick a light source and add contrasting shadows to emphasise it.

My god, anon, have you actually tried to look at an actual skirt and draw it? The solution to your problems is literally on the first answer of this thread. Read and aply.

Pic related is my shitty attempt. It's not hard.

there are seven types of clothing folds by the way
hampton goes over it, vilppu goes over it, just throw in a few clothed figures in your daily gestures and you'll get the hang of it
>>
>>3472371
My dude even your attempt isn't even properly following the form of the skirt and how it wraps around the waste.
I think you should take your own advice and actually look at what you're seeing

ehhh, its still as bad as I am and im definitely a begginer. I'm gonna say no.

Sometimes I feel like all of you don't want to improve and you don't want anyone else to improve. I'd never trust advice from here.

if you leave /beg/ now, you will forever remain Illastrat-tier
it's up to you
>>
>>3472384
Nah you've got potential do some studies on facial features like the eyes nose and lips, and learn how to construct them.

Also you don't have to draw every single strand of hair, blocking it out into a single shape and using shading and lighting will be easier if realism is your goal

read this to understand why your cylinders look bad

Whatever happened to that Miku poster? They were very activate when I used to browse this general.

Did he make it?

He’s in the anime thread now.

I drew that in less than 3-4 minutes so the anon could see what he was doing wrong. I know it's poorly drawn (if you look closely, you can see I literally wrote "shitty attempt"), but the issue here is simple and there was no need for an elaborated drawing. I'm sure that anon got the idea.
You can draw a better one if you want.
>>
>>3472397
i think im really good and could probably start doing commissions
>>

>your daily gestures

You mean just daily drawing exercises? Sorry, not really in the know. Got bit by the drawing bug again but I don't know shit and I'm fucking years behind. I never graduated beyond doing doodles and never for the life of me figured out clothing or shading.

Here's the kind of shit I'm capable of. Kooky, ugly, uber-stylized close-ups of heads and shoulders.
>>
How would you even begin to draw this jumbled mess? It is way too chaotic I get lost in all the details and can't relate anything to anything. Is there something I can't understand drawing things like this?
>>
Who can I turn to to understand how mouths/lips/jaws better? I want it to be my strength when I finally step into animation without rotoscope
>>
>>3472449
Take your time and draw everything. Not everything takes one hour.
>>
>>3472457
But how do i stop myself from getting lost? Sometimes I will try to draw something like this and not have any clue how big to make a shape I can vaguely make out and where it should be

So basically just git gud? There is no technique?
>>
>>3472475
You will get better at measuring angles and lengths by internalizing the manual methods. Like how artists can construct a body in their mind but only put down the contour on paper.

I can sort of do funny faces and "funny" bad bodies but everything is lacking in detail. I guess I'm going to have to grind drawing arms and legs for years on end? Not looking forward to that but I gotta put the work in if I want to get anywhere I guess.

Looking forward to reading about how that went.

I like it, the angular face is at odds with the roundness of the mushroom theme.

white seems to work fine for the shawl or cloak thing shes wearing, maybe add a pattern to that in another light tone, as for the gauntlets and skirt what about a darker tone?
