As anyone tried mikanschool.org?

https://www.mikanschool.org/

From what I see, its like new masters academy, but the instructors there are mostly professional Japanese artists

I'm quite interested in their painting classes
>>
>>3794145
seem new and a lot of course aint out yet
need a few lab rats to check it out because professional aint mean shit if you are suck at teaching
>>
>>3794159
well I plan on getting on getting a subscription later so I'll report back
>>
>>3794145
immediate impression is sus af, just because of the art they chose to put up on their big banner
>>
>>3794242
well i take it back, it aint bad.
>>
>>3794145
Some of the painting ones seemed not half bad like Shihou but it's definitely not something I would sub for more than a month for, and certainly not until they had way more resources. Most of the stuff I know already from books or videos, or you can find it online easily. However some of what they cover seems to be a decent all-in-one place for it since so many are too lazy to read.

I'm disappointed that they're dubbed over though. The people who they have voicing the class video introductions are so fucking bad and clearly lack an understanding of Japanese. Audio should be JP with ENG subs. Listen to this shit

Personally not interested in wacko jappo mango art but I'd definitely be intrigued by a on location digital painting school that put together the best parts of atelier training combined it with a strong emphasis on drawing.

I'm kinda interested in all but Dark Mech and Painting Josei Pencil Work, but I feel reluctant throwing 25 bucks at it. Maybe when there's a few more videos.

I personally can't using my flash grabbing shit.

Update on >>3795751
It's all in m3u8, but here is the catch: the video and the subtitles are not together. So not only it'd be a hassle to rip the video, there'd be no subs. Right now, it'd be pretty useless.

I'd rather not have to rip it by recording the whole screen if possible, but these new Amazon-hosted DRM videos are a mess to work with.
>>
>>3795866
i'd rather have it raw than without subs

>>3795887
The subs actually give a lot of insight. I'd rather not rip this at all without them.

For example, this dude worked on Eva and Code Geass and he dead ass says that proper perspective is cool and dandy but gets in the way of cuteness a lot of the times for anime characters, so he avoids it unless he's doing something realistic. It stands at odds with what a lot of people here believe, but his results speak for themselves
>>

>he dead ass says that proper perspective is cool and dandy but gets in the way of cuteness a lot of the times for anime characters, so he avoids it unless he's doing something realistic. It stands at odds with what a lot of people here believe, but his results speak for themselves
I'm aware of that and always having to argue with retards about it here so I can understand wanting to keep them together. Eyes especially don't follow perspective if you read any of the books or watch them draw.

Are the subs in a different file? With ffmpeg you could easily convert it to an mkv container and put the subs inside.
>>
>>3795932
Here is the thing, it's not downloading the subs at all. I'll try to rip with with ffmpeg, but so far, anything else I tried did not bring the subs with it.
>>
>>3795938
not sure how they deliver it but maybe check dev tools and the network tab or sources tab. it might be some encrypted player thing though. some of us understand enough to listen without raws and i'd prefer soft subs to hard subs
>>
>>3795962
It's in WEBVTT and gets loaded through a PHP file, no wonder it didn't show up. Ripping through FFMPG is possible, but it's pretty slow overall. Good thing there aren't that many courses there.

I'll try to start tomorrow if work doesn't get in the way.

I've been watching interviews from Japanese artists and it's interesting to hear their perspective on things. They don't think like western artists at all. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3zoY9LapZERsN7caDKqz0w
>>
>>3796194
If you haven't yet, check out the Urasawa Naoki no Manben videos.
>>
>>3795922
I think you're misinterpreting what he means. It's not that perspective magically prevents cuteness, it's that perspective alone isn't enough to make cute stuff. People that overfocus on perspective usually forgets to take into account of aesthetic, thus their work look less cute.
If "perspective = uncute" really is the law, Disney and Pixar movies would just cease to exist.
>>
>>3796347
That's what I thought he meant. That's also the argument I made multiple times on /ic/, only to be shat on by crabs like many others have.

i wouldnt trust this site... just learn how to draw normally. You can apply your style later when you actually know how to draw because anime is just you know.. a style..
>>
>>3796411
People are mostly waiting for someone to post the content for free and I'm sure everyone knows anime is a style you apply on top of your fundamentals. You're not giving anyone here a revelation.
>>
>>3796417
whats the point you can easily tell that this isnt the best source to learn hardly anything from i mean this guy cant even draw a fucking circle and has chicken scratch lines. a clear indicator of someone who doesn't draw well
its a literal waste of your time th class that are somewhat good are mediocre and you can find much better stuff out there to learn the same thing with better teachers
>>
>>3796424
Your post is a literal waste of time because it's not going to change anyone's opinion or make them not download free resources from anime professionals because an anon told them not to.
>>
>>3796436
can you actually read or comprehend anything
im trying to save people their time
only people who literally can not draw and wishes to draw shitty anime characters one day will ever find this pile of crap useful
also free? these are paid for dingus
doubt anyone will go through the effort to pay and download them all if its even possible through any plugins if not screen record it all but we all know no weeb is going to do so
>>
>>3796569
not that anon but obviously the people interested in this is people that want to draw "shitty anime characters" and regardless of how much great fundamental courses there are in the west, no westerner has succeeded in teaching a proper replication of anime stylization so something like this would be a great deal useful.
>doubt anyone will go through the effort to pay and download them all if its even possible through any plugins if not screen record it all but we all know no weeb is going to do so
You don have to worry yourself about that.
>>
>>3796569
Personally I'd just like some of the painting tutorials, I already know how to draw but struggle with painting in a clean and appealing way.

Status update: been ripping them all, which is pretty tiresome since most of the steps are manual. Still doable. It's going to take a whole to download them all and to put them up. Here's the first one about positioning characters for shots.

Interesting, also thanks for posting the videos, I'll subscribe if it helps me, as always.

Hate paying for stuff and then having it be shit.

It's an art video academy. but do they give you exercises to practice the stuff on the videos?

The exercises are the most important in any educational endeavor.

>>
>>3797922
With the ones I've been watching so far, you're supposed to draw along with the videos, as if someone was teaching you one-on-one. The only one that wasn't like that was the Ginyouharu one, where it's one hour of a silent demonstration of figure drawing from reference in anime style with no speeding up the footage and the next video in that lesson is him going over his thought process during that and offering tips.

1.-180 is composition so it's ok I guess? We want to learn to draw not do storyboards tho...
2.-Fundamentals is just a dude rambling and litrerally saying "Buy an anatomy book!" (really? people pay you so YOU teach them jackass)
3.-The mecha painitng is just watchign someone painting something crappy in black and white

So far It feels like a scam not gonna lie...
>>
>>3804007
I wouldn't call it a scam, it's just that what the OP touted it as,
>new masters academy but for manga and anime
was a very hard standard to live up to. I've gotten good courses from places like Palmie and Pixiv's premium subscription that were better than these, but not available in English at all, which is an issue that makes it so hard for people without any understanding of Japanese to get instruction to specific things they do different over there.
>>
>>3803998

I wont mind about skipping the long footage for kono, and if I ever need it that much, I might have to invest in them. (And he uses PS it seems so...)

But aside the digital inking, hopefully you got the rest of the painting ones. Shirai hidemi and Modura one seems to use sai, while Shihou uses csp. Those are big for me at the very least. Thank you for it

tl;dr They are all shit

>Painting cyborg= Just watching some dude do a crappy black and white painting.
>Fundamentals= Shit . Black guy just shills his website, rambles, and tells you to go learn from a book. (why am I paying you then?)
>180= Compistion for storyboards. Cool and all but We are all here to learn to draw anime....
>Inking= It's good, the best of the bunch but not that great. Only the first video is actually about inking. Then halfassed da tier anatomy explanations

Just go to pin 2d it's Much better and free.

>>
>>3804491

>>
>>3804497

>>
>>3804507
yeap! Already asked them hope they respond. (they usually do)

In the meantime enjoy the english videos. They already have 3 great playlists in english

Body, hair and clothes have subs.

But yeah most of it is in chinese with not subs :(
>>
I appreciate the uploads but waiting on the painting ones. I didn't bother with 180 and fundamentals because of knowing that shit already. Boy, the other two were worse than I thought and my expectations were already low. I skimmed through "mecha" and it was a complete waste of time even though I barely spent 2 minutes skimming. The inking one was even more basic than most youtube resources. The only useful part was the tone video because I haven't played with them much or seen any resources on common usage. For $25/mo you'd be better off buying books than spending it on these.

The inking one made me more upset because the English voiceover is completely useless.
>>
>>3804129

The stuff that is worth ripping (that OP have not ripped already):
-Anime Figure Drawing I
-Anime Character Design I, II, III
-Drafting Story for Manga
They're also probably the most relevant to most people's interest here.
I honestly don't know why you ripped the Mecha one, the thumbnail obviously look like shit and no one here is asking for mecha anyways
>>

I dont have a problem with the 3 playlists on english (they are perfect btw for what they are teaching. Explains alot). But there are still nothing translated for digital anime painting, especially for csp.

Thats pretty important cuz those little things they are saying matters alot. The mikanschool inking class for example did a tidbit for that gpen brush setting, toning standard and beta as a glimpse of their standard workflow. That is huge for people who dont use photoshop.

Judging by the depth of these courses so far, I wouldn't have high hopes. "Anime figure drawing" is a meme, learn actual realistic fundies figure drawing then translate to anime. There are already plenty of places to observe figure drawing from twitter, pixiv, and youtube for East Asian influences.

Learning art is about as much practicing and discovering on your own as it is learning from others. Copy as much as you can. You don't understand that in Western society copying has fallen out of fashion. All the good artists you see have spent hundreds or thousands of hours copying the masters or what they consider master work, no one likes to talk about it anymore though.
