Hey guys, one of the problems with these threads is that retards come in and go "OKAAYY LIKEIM GONNE GIVE U FREE ART U THINK IM STUPID "

would it be more effective to post an artist or piece with a very distinct style and then have people draw whatever they want in that style? could be fun
>>
>>3852605
that would be a lot better than these transparent "draw my rp character" threads

Mark Crilley did a presentation at the local library when I was a kid, and he was super nice and funny, signed my copy of his "manga" too. I can't talk shit about him in good faith.

The problem with these threads is that people DO use them for free art. What made me curse away all 'draw this thing' threads is when we had that guy a while back that would make like 7 different nazi girl threads under the pretense of "draw this in your style".

That's not to mention that 'draw this' posts are inherently boring and unoriginal. On paper it sounds like it would be cool for creative expression but in reality all anyone is doing is copying the photo in their shitty "style" which isn't at all creative. So in most cases all you'll get is the picture drawn like shit, the picture drawn like shit but with anime eyes, and the rare but elusive hyper realistic copy.

My initial sketch was pretty angular and stuff but I ended up just doing a regular study because I liked where it was going... Idk if I can finish the suit because my wrist is about to fall off.

/beg/ here
how did I do. I wanted to finish the body but I got too tired (I'm getting /fit/ so I'm slowly working on being less tired/lazy)
>>
>>3856253
Stiff af, stop measuring like all those faggots
>>
>>3856253
Cool. I'm tired too so forgive me if I talk like a
retard. basically,as an artist you consciously should think if you want to draw a line. What if you didn't outline the nose bridge? etc. Maybe you did think that thoufh, so idk.
>>
>>3856340
Whenever I draw, I think in 3D shapes only. For now I can't paint so I try to demonstrate that there's form/constructions in the figure/subjects by drawing these 'outlines' (like in 3DCG models) around the figure, whenever I can.
Or that's what's in my brain subconsciously whenever I draw a single line. After laying down the plummel lines on the left (some were erased/deleted later on), I drew a rough sphere with planes, and went from there. I off and on thought of it in 3D and other times I would "straight up copy" by measuring negative space/line relations etc.

I'm following the Realism lesson on the schoolism website since I bought the year long subscription on a summer sale. The lesson hasn't said anything about construction yet, it's mostly just following block-outs and 2D shapes.
>>
>>3856364
fair enough if you're practicing that, i was mostly talking about drawing only what looks pleasing to you, or what you think might please others.
>>
>>3856371
Okay, that's what you meant (sorry I misinterpreted).

As for pleasing or 'looking right', what I'm thinking right now is "good fundamentals make good art". So that's why I'm practicing on making accurate realistic faces because many recommend it for beginners. Even Japanese people are always recommending loomis and life drawings (there was an anon that briefly translated a 2ch thread a long time ago).
I know life drawings aren't about replicating the picture perfectly- but I don't know how they make their life drawings so good when they add a bit of their own 'style' into it. I can never find an explanation on why/how they do it.
>>
>>3856383
You could experiment. Like omitting some lines, outline on top of forms instead of the silhouette, etc. As long as it's consistent and pleasing, it'll be fine.

measuring doesn't help you get better at art. go construct it with approximate proportions instead. the form being believable matters more than the percentage of your lines that line up with the source image. on your drawing even just the jawline doesn't look right, nor do the eyes.
