I think these threads are pointless since it's extremely subjective and people will greatly exaggerate or undercut their value estimates depending on if they personally like the subject and style or not. It would be much more useful if people posted actual commissioned work and said how much they were paid for it.

That's not what I'd call a finished piece. It's what I'd call a study in a spiral sketchbook. You said you'd paint on canvas, so a finished piece would be a framed canvas. If you want to make money off traditional art, either paint cheesy stuff that people buy, like portraits from photos, or exhibit your work. But I don't think your work is good enough for exhibitions right now.

>>
>>4011469
While I agree this looks too good for $25, your presentation makes it hard to sell for higher.

Make the composition a bit more interesting and you can probably turn it up. Too much breathing space, so the BG is pointless. Add some abstract elements to the framing or something.

This is a creat piece, however amateurish the art might still be. It's definitely hard to find random commissions like this, but writers (and writer wannabes) are always looking for people to give their books and fanfics a face. You'll probably have to read some of it or ask for some detailed descriptions, your way to deal with it might vary. For a commissioner, this is a great way to pay less (it's a single piece) for more (several snippets show up), although you can't be too exigent in this case in terms of narrative, it's more like a general piece that transmits the mood.

Ultimately, you can go for doing short commission pages, like doing 2 pages illustrating an action passage of the person's story, or even create something from zero, as in the dude gives you a furry shark tranny and you make 2 random pages of it surfing in a competition against its girlfriend octopus.

In the end, you gotta sell your product. If you make a couple pieces like this and people like it, they might want to commission you for this particular format, even if they didn't have it in mind at first when they went out to shop for art.

few hundred bucks probably, that's a lot of drawing. If someone is working slave wages they'll charge ~50 bucks a page and what you posted is probably a couple pages worth of comics art. If you want inks + colors they'll most likely charge more.

This. No idea why artists here are so quick to devalue each other's work - if you're an artist, this hurts your value too.
If the appeal of your work is that it's cheap, instead of that it's desirable, you're NGMI because you're in a bidding war with yourself and the lowest common denominator.

Dipshits routinely charging and bidding under $20 on work that's worth at least $100 and that's being conservative.

Most people aren't going to buy something that was made for someone else. I don't think a portrait of me would get high bids from anyone else but that doesn't devalue it.

People should only post work and what you received for it, so we can tell them to charge more. I only want to sell my art to people willing to pay for it. If they want it, they'll pay a fair rate, not this $20 McDonald's commission BS. If you're a client, I'm not gonna take a financial hit to spend my time and energy making something for you
