So, what's the best option in regards to online commissions: to start asking a low price until you get some recognition and a following and then to slowly increase the prices; or to ask for a living and decent price based on your expenses and how much you wanna make per hour?

There is no such thing as a starving female artist. They can just sell their pussy and make a living real easy.
>>
>you will never be able to pick up a starving female artist because they literally don't exist
god I wish I had a starving female artist gf
>>
>>4014580
How the fuck do you not feel ashamed drawing that pic, literally drawing yourself panhandling. Why are people not ashamed of e-begging, is dignity a completely lost concept?
Is see these people with a pinned tweet where they beg for a ko-fi right away, what the fuck.
>>
>>4014634
the internet is not real so you can e-beg or steal all you want
>>
>>4014580
Omfg can we stop with the "starving artist" meme? This is why people message artists with some private inquiries thinking they can buy 8 hours worth of work for $50. Get kids out of the workforce, they're the ones ruining it for adults who want to make a living out of art.
>>
>>4014648
Imagine being so bad you can't get paid what you deserve and are wanting kids to not earn while they're young.
>>
>>4014657
Literally the entire purpose of child labor laws in real industries is because children can very easily flood a market and undercut adults. Did you fail out of history class or something? How do you not know this?
>>
If you're "starving" you should go do some real work and not treat art like it's the only way to get by.
I work nearly fulltime, and do art in my free time. I get commissions, and of course ultimately the dream is to drop my 9 to 5 for art, but I have my safety net.
In fact through having a normal career the bar for matching what I make with my normal job is rising and I don't think I'll ever make it (ngmi).. But I know I'll always have my hobby, the freedom to make what I want, turn down commissions I don't like, and never be poor.
Don't tunnelvision on one thing bros.
>>
>>4014580
no good artist starve, you just need to be good enough to be worth paying
>>
>>4014686
>art
>a real industry
>>
>>4014634
Panhandling is a common cartoon trope, just like a ballchain to your ankle to symbolize lack of freedom. It doesn't carry any heavy tones of humiliation, it's just an exaggeration for graphical/narrative appeal, however cheap it may be.

>>4014686
Then why not take women out of the market so men are not undercut?
>>
>>4014719
>It doesn't carry any heavy tones of humiliation, it's just an exaggeration for graphical/narrative appeal
it's not an exaggeration when you are literally panhandling
>>
>>4014580
Artisans should carry themselves with integrity, simple as that. If an artist isn’t good enough to charge a fair price they shouldn’t be doing commissions at all. If you want to make money, go work at McDonalds.
>>
>>4014728
>tfw so mentally ill not even McDonald's will take me
>>
>>4014730
Walmart hires literal retards

A psychological quirk of perceived value:

People are far, far more willing to pay for something if they know other people are. Some dude did a study on Patreon where he found a bunch of patreons with no donations. At random, half he donated a little money to, the other half he left alone. In the end that little bit of money boosted the amount of money those patreons made significantly on average because other people gained confidence that SOMEONE else had seen value in it. Just being a guy who's good enough to do commissions is an indicator to some people that he's worth paying.

If you start commissions relatively (not absurdly, just relatively) cheap and fill a handful, you can bring the price up on your next round. Or hell, say they're cheap for a special occasion.

THAT SAID, people also (often falsely) equate quality with the asking price, if they lack expertise/other information. So don't stay too cheap too long. Some reasonably shit artists ask for a lot and get away with it because people don't know better, they just assume the service is valuable.
>>
>>4014792
Uhm, it's like social proof and all that, right?
>>
>>4014797

Basically. People naturally look to what others do because we're cognitively lazy and it's easier to assume someone else did their research than to do it ourselves. The larger the crowd doing it, the more we trust it, even if a large amount of that crowd is using the same mental shortcut we are.
>>
>>4014614
Hmm maybe not everyone wants to resort to prostitution? You can just sell your boi pussy to old gay men if you also want this privilege
>>
>>4014814

All women are whores, sweetie.
>>
>>4014818
All men are pigs, sweatie.
>>
>>4014841
That's true. What's the shame in admitting the truth? We men own it -- it's time you do the same.
>>
>>4014792
Do you think this also applies to social media? Like an artist with a large following will be able to more easily get new followers because people think that they must be good if they’re popular
>>
>>4014792
A typical way to get yourself started as a pornfag is to draw a bunch of the fetish shit you're willing to draw and say it's a commission in the post
>>
>>4014908
a virgin fag like you shouldnt pretend to be a man , now go train your boipussy
>>
>>4014686
>>4014648
imagine children out-competing you at your profession as an adult. this is worse than being mad your McD job is done better by a robot.
>>
>>4014792
Wait.. What if I made some illustrations and claimed they were commissions? Like posting on Facebook a drawing while writing
>This was so much fun to draw! I always loved The Matrix as a kid! Commission by XxStarTwinkiexX

And I could even create fake accounts that follow artist pages and share memes acting like real people to like my stuff and comment to give the illusion of my page being worth commissioning.
It sounds like an extremely basic idea that should be given to anyone wanting to start. At least 1 or 2 fake commissions at the beginning to Kickstart the whole thing.

>>4014981
You have no grasp on economics
>>
hello
>>
>>4014997
XD

>>4014999
if you're doing what a kid can do faster and cheaper you have a low skill job. where does economics enter this problem? you sound delusional from coping. get a real job instead of fighting children at their hobby.
>>
Will you do a commission of yourself going down on Thor's mighty cock?
>>
>>4015278
Already drew that before
>>
>>4014614
Gross
>>
>>4015285
Damn it, I like you.
>>
>>4014953
>>4014982

fuck that's a good idea. But what if you get caught and they find out that's your sockpuppet? How long should you maintain a sockpuppet account? Maybe have a robot run it? Because people might get suspicious if that account immediately goes dead after the commission.

>>4014981
children aren't out competing anyone. lul
>>
>>4015342
No ones gonna pay attention to an account that much to notice the connection

And yeah if a child draws better than you then that’s sad

The only rule is : ask for as much money as it's necessary to make you not feel miserable while drawing the commission. There's nothing too low and nothing to high, burning yourself out for small fetish fries is not worth it in the long run.
>>
>>4014580
Another thing to keep in mind is if you get a commission request you don’t want to do, say no using the price. So instead of outright saying you won’t do it, name a much higher price. They’ll likely not agree, but in the off chance that they do you’ll earn a nice amount so it’s not too bad.

You can experiment with higher prices and seeing if people will take them with those commissions that you don’t really care if you get or not.
>>
>>4015342
What if you just put it's a comission for an anonymous?
>>
>>4015357
Lel I once got asked to draw tickle porn and scared the guy off by just showing him my commission prices and telling him I'd charge him a little extra.
