The truth is, I love almost every song from both DJ Mass MAD Izm and Remo-con. They're so good and particularly Watch Out Pt. 2 Hyper is one of the most fun songs to play.

But I'm a sad 1P scratchlet who has no chance of ever clearing these songs on their hardest difficulties. It's really frustrating when you favorite songs are the ones you can't do.

>MGS2 Mission R never made its way to any IIDX mix, AC or otherwise

Sad. Real sad. I've just come across this piece of information and it saddened me. I could've sworn that shit was on BMUS.

On an unrelated note, is there a reason there is no Love is Dreaminess another chart on omnimix? Remy says it has one and it's an 11 but I guess it never made it.
>>
>>17048073

Woah woah woah, wait. What? Upon further inspection, there's nothing about an 11 chart on Remy. I KNOW it said 11 somewhere at some time. 100%. This upsets me, because I wanted there to be another 11 out there I could sink my teeth into.

I'm guessing it was conflated with the Lovely Storm (Love is Dreaminess Reinterpretation)'s another 11 chart. Life deals me yet another blow.

>>

Oh shit, you're right. It just wasn't called that. Still, it's sad that it has to die with the rest of 5 key beatmania.

Even beyond that, why doesn't Konami leverage its vast game library and their soundtracks when making/choosing IIDX songs? You know how many cocks I'd suck to be able to play RULES OF NATURE on IIDX Lawnmower?

pick your song. press start as soon as you see the playarea appear, and hold it down. press the lower of the 2 buttons next to start, then turn the turntable to set your speed. it will stay at that speed after you set it, even on the next song.

if you have sudden+ on, press start 2x first to turn it off, then set your hispeed, then start 2x to turn it back on

Rainbow... 300? Anyway, it's done through a combination of a modified version of the LR2 executable and a skin that supports it. WMIX is a pretty popular 1280x720 skin with support for fast/slow.

LR2 but I think it should apply to everything right?

>>
>>17053638
I'm not a super experienced player, but I'd say move up when you have AA scores or better on most songs in a folder. What has worked decently for me is to move up and test some more difficult songs once in a while when I'm completely warmed up and see how it goes, then you also have some scores you can use to judge your progress when you repeat later. I guess some people might frown upon that if you make a habit of mashing.
You should also keep playing lower difficulties, with random for instance, to practice your accuracy.
>>
>>17053638
just try harder stuff once in a while and see how it goes? playing every song within a given rating, including the shitty ones, is for kaiden aaa topranker 1048 autists only

hmm

So far I've been taking the second approach. I don't even pass everything, much less getting AAs. I aim to groove gauge pass about 75% of the folder before moving on. I should go back sometimes to see how I fare though, that's true.
>>
>>17053953
learn how to time or you will regret it later

clearing 12s with C or B isn't that impressive if you can't even AAA something easy
>>
>>17053957
You only learn how to AAA 12s by playing 12s.

I can AAA every single level 1 song and that won't help me to AA 10s and A 11s
>>
>>17053975
>I can AAA every single level 1 song and that won't help me to AA 10s

uh yes it will dumbass you know how to hit buttons accurately

obviously there are more buttons to hit but 10s arent so dense than you cant use proper technique on them
>>
>>17053957
I almost always get As or AAs on easy judgerank and B (rarely A) on normal, pass or not. The few hard or very hard songs so far are really difficult to get good timing, it seems really strict.

I wonder if I have offset issues.
>>
>>17053975

AAAing a level 1 song is pretty impressive. It's certainly harder than AAAing 8s and 9s. Harder to time when there are so few notes.
>>
>>17054068
i've aaaed 8s and 9s but the sweet spot for timing is like 6s and 7s
>>
>>17053638

there are always easy songs in each difficulty folder and hard ones, so having a specific point when you move on doesn't make much sense, instead you should always be pushing yourself. like if you can only clear 9s, you could still clear elisha H or rumrum triplets H, but technically those are 10s, or if you can only clear 10s, you could still clear miracle meets A even though its an 11. also if you use a site like textage.cc/score or whatever, you can look up a chart thats the next difficulty level up, and decide if it looks easy enough to tackle.
>>
>>17054503
Yeah I noticed. So far I've been trying to at least clear what's in the dan courses before moving on.

I'm trying the 5s now, and I was able to pass 3 of them 1st try so they're likely 4s in disguise, when for example Melt melts me even though it' a 4.

And there's stuff like Rosario -another story- that absolutely dumpsters me right now in the 5s.

Total newfag here btw, this my first real rhythm game.
>>
>>17053975
that's just not completely true though. obviously you need to play 12s to AAA 12s (because how the fuck are you going to AAA a song if you can't even pass it)

but the biggest difficulty behind any AAA rating is getting better at hitting the buttons with consistent force, reacting to notes at a consistent speed, and just fucking improving your timing in general.

it's also kinda untrue in that, while playing level 1s will not improve your ability to read level 10s, playing level 9s with stricter guidelines likely will improve your reading of 10s. the patterns are a bit simpler, but are almost as challenging, and if you aim to perfect the song as opposed to merely passing it, you'll learn shit.

i'm trying to get into upper 12s and i'm still playing some of the tough 11s with the exh gauge, going for AA/AAAs because it helps me improve my reading and accuracy.

>AAAing a level 1 song is pretty impressive

What? AAA'ing a 1 is literally "i've found a comfortable offset" tier
>>
>>17054661
>and if you aim to perfect the song as opposed to merely passing it, you'll learn shit.

This is a huge mistake that I am 100% aware that I am constantly making. I'm working on finished up clearing all the 11s and trying to get m foot more in the door on 12s, but I almost never go back and replay cleared 11s again when playing for fun. I just throw them onto a pile of vanquished 11s and call it a day.

I really need to start playing them more. Get rid of any Bs and work on the AAs on the lower tier ones.
>>
>>17054720

AAAing a 1 is hard because the notes are so few and far between. Keeping a beat when there's only 1 or 2 notes a measure is a lot harder that if there were 8. Plus, seeing as how most 1 charts have around 100 notes in them, you can only afford to get ~25 Greats. I'm sure I couldn't just go get a AAA on a 1 right now.
>>
>>17054736

That's not true at all what the fuck, also that logic is flawed seeing as it's the same percentage of notes for an AAA at level 1 and level 12
People who couldn't even pass an 8 can AAA 1s
You're definitely just weird anon
>>
>>17054747

Saying 8s and 9s are easier to AAA is going too far, but if you're trying for your first few AAAs something in the 3-5 range would definitely be easier than a 1. The rhythms tend to be more consistent and straightforward, and you don't have long pauses between notes, so it's easier to follow and stay on beat. I looked back at my very old scores on SSS and my comment on desolation [n] was "harder to AAA than 7k/A," for example. Not enough notes, too spread out.
>>

Hispeed is a fantastic tool, nothing wrong with using it. It increases it for nearly everyone. It's usually a tradeoff of readability (however, only after a certain point, as reading x1.0 is suicide anyway) for timing.
Your goal should be to find a hispeed that you can time and read at comfortably.
Offsets, on the other hand, can ruin your timing on an unfamiliar setup.

They're extremely fun. I recommend one, though make sure that you like the game before you buy. Maybe check if there's anyone playing IIDX near your area that has a setup and see if you could come check it out?

You could also check if there are any arcades near you, though you might've already done that.

And if you're good with your hands, you could make a ghetto controller for a fraction of the costs of a dao, but that isn't everyones cup of tea.

What I've heard about the tatacons is that they're pretty bad without modifications. Don't own one, though, so can't say much about them.
>>
>>17061578
According to zemius-i-vanisher there are 4 arcades in my entire country, 2 of which are in cities I can get to by train. They are literally just bowling alleys with a DDR machine.

>make sure that you like the game before you buy.
I go back and forth between loving the game and having tons of fun and being completely disillusioned at being forever a scrub. I always come back and play more though, even if I go on hiatus for a couple of months and don't play much I eventually get that itch to pick back up again, I've been playing vertical scrolling rhythm games semi actively for about 5 years, lr2 for about 1.

I don't think I'd be able to build one without more experience, it would turn out shabby at best.
The dao ones look really nice, and I'd be less cautious to buy it if our proud police didn't charge a flat +25% tax on any imported goods over 25 dollaroes.

it would cost a lot more for you, but if you think youll enjoy the game youll be able to enjoy it for a VERY long time. something about rhythm games is that progress is pretty consistent as long as you play a lot, not many people who play a ton get stuck on difficulties for too long. the only reason i imagine people quitting is getting bored or frustrated that their progress isnt fast enough

identify what are your strong points and start from there. Songs from SDVXI are pretty heavy on bt notes, so that's where I started, with some songs from SDVXII. I didn't clear any songs from SDVXIII before I was well into 14s.

Then again, if you're better at knobs, start from songs with a lot of those.

I'd recommend trying 六兆年と一夜物語 exh (pic related), IMO it's the easiest 14 in the whole game. There was some google docs with ratings ranging from 14.0 to 14.9 (and similar ratings for 15s and 16s) somewhere but I've lost it. Maybe someone else has it?

I heard a story from someone on sows about playing while tripping on acid.
He said he thought he was a waiter and when he was pushing the buttons he was taking their orders.
>>
>>17062171
It's a believable story, depending on how much you take you'll end up in some very strange thought loops. LR2 is fun during the comedown, you interpret and see the patterns in a completely different way, and feeling the rhythm in your fingers can be sort of strange in a good way. You'll not necessarily play any better though.
Would recommend, it's the only drug with a net positive influence.

the downside though is if you want to play on a pc at all, you need to use a ps2 -> usb adapter

I don't know feels like they put stuff above the chart play level or gimmick sections to make some songs there really hard to pass.I have trouble with really fast (1/32th?) stuff especially.

Whereas the difficulty seems more constant on the 2nd normal scale for the most part.

Maybe they're the ones easing you in to the next level, but they stick out since the scale has too few charts and pretty much 30% of them is really hard compared to the other 70%. So I passed the easy ones but the hard ones destroyed me.

It's a tracker which I guess sort of resembles bakabt. It has a ton of stuff relating to rhythm games, tons of music from there, and a ton of different games which you can use to set up ripped versions of arcade games on your pc (unlike for instance lr2, which is an emulator).
The seeding system is pretty strict. You need a large surplus seed count and seeding time to build up points, those points can then be traded in to artificially increase your positive seed, or be traded in for invites and some other things. I think you need a pretty big positive before you are allowed to download actual games, so you spend like a year seeding stuff before you can get iso files.
I honestly lost interest because my bandwith is too shitty to keep up that and I'm happy enough with lr2, so I spent my 150 points or so on three invites and haven't used that account in 2-3 years. Not sure if they do auto-pruning of old accounts, hopefully not.
>>
>>17067797

>>

>>17067816
There's a lot of effort and time involved in building your ratio. I understand the idea is to force people to actually commit to the site instead of driving by and just downloading the games before leaving again.
By strict I didn't mean difficult, I was refering to the seed requirement that effectively locks away all the relevant content.
I don't have the bandwith to download a ton of stuff I have zero interest in just so I can let them idly seed for 6-12 months to build up enough of a ratio to download one iso. If you do that's fine, I don't have any problems with it, I am not complaining. Though I do think that keeping it so secret/closed is detrimental to the growth and longevity of the rhythm game community, that's just my two cents.

Have there been any definitive statements on just why it is so isolationist? I am unsure if the major reason is because of elitism, or if it's to fly under the radar of bemani so they don't get bombarded by lawsuits and cease and desist notices.

>>
>>17070366
Not him, but why should the standards for what is good be so low?

I mean most people who actively play can achieve the status of being able to AAA 12s in a bit over a year.

That leads to the conclusion that if you can't do that you are either casual or just started recently.

And in this context under 1.5 years is recent considering how old iidx is.
>>
>>17070525
>I mean most people who actively play can achieve the status of being able to AAA 12s in a bit over a year.

Fuck off no they can't. You know full fucking well being able to do that in a year is extraordinarily rapid growth in skill.

AAAing 12s is beyond even the level of kaiden. Most people take years to get even there. Fuck off and kill yourself.
>>
>>17070536
Most people play quite seldom though, the focus is on the word active.

Also AAAing 12s isn't really kaiden level, unless you mean getting AAAs from mid-tier timing 12s then you'd be right.

But entry-level and low-level timing 12s are definitely chuden level for AAA.
>>
>>17070548

Well, "AAAing 12s" is extremely vague. It can mean anything from "I can AAA Special Summer Campaign and V" to "I can AAA every single 12"

I see that phrase and I immediately think "AAAing (most) 12s"

But regardless, I'd be willing to bet a LOT of Kaidens had very very few or even 0 AAAs on 12s when they achieved it.
>>
>>17070591
Well I guess it was just a misunderstanding, but do you know many kaidens who can't AAA any 12s?

(In my head though AAAing 12s says that you have broken the timing wall and are able to AAA some 12s already, but I guess it is too vague)

Out of the people that I know almost all of them were able to AAA a lot of hard stuff before getting kaiden.

Because kaiden is difficult enough still.

But if you have been playing actively without large hiatuses or your active playtime total is about a year to year and a half, I'd expect you could AAA at least some 12s?
>>
File: deserve.jpg (113 KB, 960x960)

113 KB JPG
Reminder that a very large number of people have very bad timing. Check out the SP Kaiden average score pacemaker. I think there are only one or two SP 12s that have a AAA average.
>>
>>17070628
I guess most western people are an exception to that then, considering here in the west so many have the attitude "timing is everything" hmm
>>
>>17070649
That's not too surprising when people in the west mostly only had CS and fake servers until recently. On real e-AMUSEMENT, Konami deletes your scores every year, so why focus on timing.
>>
>>17070606
i mean 12s are really two, arguably even three, difficulties in one. what kinds of 12s do you mean?

obviously a first-time kaiden isn't going to be able to AAA, much less even AA clear the songs in the kaiden course (bsb, himiko). and obviously, they're likely capable of AAAing the easiest 12s in the game (sakura storm, moon child). but at what point does it even out?

idk i get the impression kaiden players are probably only AAing most mid-tier 12s.
>>
>>17070824
Yeah that is what I meant by it, I'd say AAAing most 12s if I meant AAAing most 12s, so I am talking about the low-tier 12s.
>>
6s seem like a pretty big jump in difficulty, I can imagine getting stuck here for a while, which seems proper given how crazy 12s look.

>>
>>17071214

8s are where things start getting hard and you hit walls.
>>
>>17072382
It seems like every song has some crazy fast stuff that lower my gauge too much to pass, but other than that I don't struggle too much so far, except for some repeating chords+melody sections.
I can't interpret the melody as a seperate thing, but more like random chords of 3-4 keys which fuck me up, a reading issue I guess.
>>
How hard will it be to jump from playing K-Shoot and LR2 on keyboard to controller?

I'm imagining it'll be easier for LR2 since it will probably be easier to transfer the much more static(than K-Shoot)muscle memory of playing KB to a IIDX controller. I'm hoping it won't be too bad for K-Shoot, but I'm imagining it's confusing as fuck to move your hands around for a while.

On the other hand, 10 keys for K-Shoot does stay kind of confusing for a long time as well. Maybe it won't be -too- bad. Maybe I'll at least have some creativity in my options a bit. And will have to use shit tier fingers less often.

Anybody with experience transitioning that can enlighten me a bit how it is? For LR2 I'm playing 10's and 11's and K-Shoot is 14's and 15's.
>>
>>17073389
I've done both, and it shouldn't really be too bad unless you're easily discouraged. Took me probably around 2-4 weeks to get to the same level for SDVX (mid 15s old scale), and I only play like an hour every one or two days.
IIDX should be really easy as far as keys are concerned, but you're probably gonna have a lot of trouble with the TT unless you only play LR2 (IIDX deadzone is significantly bigger, if I'm not mistaken).
Also depends on how close your keyboard setups are to the controller layouts, of course. I did my best to emulate the real layouts before switching to controller so your mileage may vary.
>>
>>17073389
Actually, I heard kb and mouse transfer better to an actual SDVX controller than IIDX.

I don't play voltex so I can't confirm, but with IIDX it was super awkward to learn the controller. Took me several hours and then weeks until I reached the same level I was before my FP7

IIDX on kb and controller are pretty much w different games.
>>
>>17073389
When I transitioned from keyboard to a KOC I was doing 9s on KB, and it took about a month for me to reach the same level on the KOC.
>>
>>17073462
I do exclusively play LR2, just about, but I didn't try to imitate the SDVX style with my keyboard; keys too small and awkward for that(on top of beings surrounded by other keys). Good to hear it shouldn't be too bad, though. That sounds like an acceptable time investment.
>>
>>17051480
different noob here, does your GN stay the same throughout a song with BPM changes?
>>
>>17073694
No, that used to be an option in some older styles called REGUL-SPEED but your GN will change.

However, you can hold start and nudge the turntable during a song and it'll reset your GN.
>>
>>17073671
You could bind several keys to one SDVX key to simulate the setup, so that each cluster of keys simulates a bigger key, and you could just slap your keyboard like you would do with a real controller rather than try to aim for a tiny key
>>
>>17073764
I'm just gonna wait until I get my controller desu. It's not worth changing my style up only weeks before I'm going to change it again.
>>
>>17073764
On the topic of SDVX keyboard layouts, what ones do people use? I ended learning dfjk for bt, sl for fx and we/io for lasers, and it's pretty much unusable when there's both lasers and fx notes on the same side.
>>
>>17073898
I use pinkies and rings for lasers, index and middle for white, and thumbs for FX. Thumbs feels like it's makes more sense for reading since it's "under" the notes like it is in Voltex and probably translates better that way too. Better for lasers too, than other setups I've tried, since, in my opinion, keeping the weakest link fingers tied to the buttons you will, generally speaking, press the least is helpful. Additionally, keeping lasers on the same "circuit" of muscles seems to help remind you on what goes where and what you're doing with them. Well, as much as you can with shit tier fingers, anyway.

Finding a decent setup can be tricky, though. I eventually settled on, since you can't use the alt keys, caps lock qwe x for left hand(pinky->thumb)and spacebar ,./ right shift(thumb->pinky) for right hand.

Ghosting is possible with a bad keyboard but it pretty much always is with bad keyboards and high key counts so fuck it. I don't have that problem, fortuntately.
>>
>>17073898
Default one worked fairly well for me. Just had to rebind FX buttons to Left/Right Alt with AHK.

I'd say kshoot is actually easier than iidx to transfer, at least if you transfer quite early (before 12s). So you might have to go back to 13s for a bit, but it shouldn't be long before you leqrn the hand-waving.
Iidx has more techniques to learn in my opinion, with scratch + 1/2/3 and scales etc. That are far harder than the scales in sdvx. That's both what might frustrate and entrance you, as it really Transforms thr gamr.
Either way, it's pleasant to do both, so I'd suggest doing it as soon as possible.

Actually Ive seen caps of bemanigirl mocking people for being 3rd worlders while I've never seen sows being dicks towards people of other countries.

Anyone know how the password system works on BBR3rd? I can't fucking read moon and i'm curious

You could get PU with a 10kb/s connection

I literally got PU by just trading dellar. You don't really need to seed anything.

How to do jacks with left thumb?
I am genuinely curious to know how people are actually able to do this.
>>
>>17081673
What's a jack? Been seeing that terminology a lot.
>>
>>17081771
Hitting the same button repeatedly really fast.
>>
>>17081673

>>
>>17081771
Jack as in jaquehammer.
Mini-jacks are very tight double/triple notes.
Regular jacks are a ton quickly after another, ie how it's like to play scratch on a keyboard.

>>17081802
I was thinking it might have something to do with hand positions, but I guess it's possible that my dominant hand might just be all around faster/stronger.
>>
>>17081864
youll just call all of them a jack. just 2 notes next to eachother is usually called one

on 1p i assume youre talking about. i find that i kinda turn my wrist to do jacks if i want to hit them hard. if im being lazy and playing bms i just dont pull up all the way on the key before pressing again

How do I get an invite if the drawing route fails?
I tried drawing Cindy, messaged two admins on irc, one said he wouldn't take drawings and the other never replied, I also tried the facebook and got no response.
I just want my bemani tunes.
>>
>>17082569
Lurk here until a tripfag offers them for free again.
>>
>>17082569
There are easier places to get bemani music if that's really all you want. People aren't too protective of game soundtracks
>>
>>17082582
I'll want to eventually play iidx when I buy a controller but I figured using the soundtracks to build up ratio so I could download the games after a while would be a win/win

What the fuck is that +- track doing in the normal 6s?

> Tfw I'm a rhythmlet that has never gotten an AAA and it doesn't seem like that's going to change anytime soon

How did you people practice your timing other than just playing more? I'm currently kneedeep in 9s but I can't time for shit. I've been playing 7s with hard gauge and it's helped me somewhat, but I'm still struggling to get even AAs on those. pic somewhat related.

300/100 gn/wn if that matters.
>>
>>17082666
Play lower level songs to see if you can actually time or not.

Adjust based on how many fast /slows you get. Raise and lower GN to experiment.

make sure ur offset is right, for one thing. then you just have to get the technique of hitting the buttons in a crisp, consistent manner. i find it works better to keep my fingers rigid and bring my hand down, bending my fingers to hit the buttons is less accurate

lol ddr gives you an "ex score" now?

you definitely can, and more generally, dan courses are about decreasing your misscounts, which is usually going to be in opposition to increasing your exscore. that said, I think if you've passed kaiden it's more than fair to call you "good," as long as you understand that there are still a billion more levels of goodness beyond that.

How does that work, spinning one direction is like holding down a key, and the other direction is some other key?

It's just like Taiko.

Besides, with DDR you can just turn your body sideways and read it normally and it's still correct.

What's the most bargain basement way to build a bemani pc? I'm looking at the spreadsheet and there are 7 dollar cards on here that run data flawlessly (or so they report). What's the cheapest thing I can shove these into as even Optiplexes are 40-60 bucks. I'm guessing you don't really need the 3.00GHz version of the C2D, and 2GB of RAM seems to be fine for XP.
