I want those cute Suelle tapestries.
>>
If I regret buying Sophie and I regret buying Firis will I regret buying Lydie & Suelle? I have the other 2 boxes and my autism makes me want to buy the last one just for the sake of completeness.
>>
Suppose I have a few million dollars in bitcoin. How do I buy out Gust from KT?
>>
Guys, I got a million dollar idea on my hands. Okay, so what if the next Atelier game was "Confectioner" where you run a bakery and make sweets? Gust saved.
>>
Or if that's no good, how about "Atelier [name] ~The Detective Alchemist~"?
>>
>>18118431
Wait, I got one more thing. Call it Atelier Casey ~The Detective Alchemist~, like a detective solving a case.
>>
An idea I honestly had was an NIS GUST cross over with alchemy mechanics but in a makai kingdom setting with the Disgaea art style and writing but Atelier like crafting mechanics. The main mechanic will be using alchemy to craft demons that will be your minions and weapons for them, rather than traveling the world you send out your minions to go collect ingredients but when you send them too far into human territory the humans see it as an invasion an send an attacking force to deal with you. After a lot of misunderstanding people think the main character is out to conquer the world so she is forced to defender her self by making stronger monster, demons, dragons and magical potions. Eventually through only wanting to defend herself, a bunch of misunderstanding, minions not following orders, and gross incompetence on her part, she actually becomes strong enough to conquer the world or creates a creatures that does so and everyone unites to defeat it.

All she wanted to do was bake some pies.

t. person who things Iris and Mana Khemia are the best Atelier games and wants to turn the series into generic NIS shit
>>
>>18118141
You think wrong, because from Rorona through to Firis the games have all largely shared the same staff of producer, directors, game designers, and scenario writers. Which just makes things more confusing, really.
>>
>>18118617
I think Violet and Meruru are the best games. Never finished MK because the text is too small on the psp, it actually made my eyes hurt.
>>
>>18118636
Okay, my ideas are better.
>>
>>18118649
Are you the atelier bakery guy? If you yes. That would be amazing. Especially if they used real recipes you could make irl to enjoy while you are playing. If you are the detective one, it would only work if it's a milky holmes clone.
>>
>>18118669
I did both.
>>
>>18118669
And yeah, I meant something lighthearted for Atelier Casie ~The Alchemy of the Great Detective~. Not like solving murder cases.
>>
>>18118673
You had one great idea and a kinda crappy one. I would like an edgy atelier as well where people die, maybe Dusk during the events that cause the Dusk to happen. A tale of one alchemist's hubris and divine punishment.
>>
>>18118649
You don't think Rorona accidentally taking over the netherworld, conquering earth then eventually taking on celestia it self is a great idea?
>>
>>18118685
>>18118718
What makes Atelier unique is how it's a lighthearted slice of life series. I don't want them turning it into a generic RPG again, especially not if NIS is involved. And ESPECIALLY not if it used Disgaea's shit art style.
>>
>>18118738

Sorry but Disgaea's art is pure sex. Only Mel and Hidari can even compare.

Wow, this scene was really good and well written, the OST was perfect and the pace of the scene was really nice, it's also placed nicely in the story. I wish more scenes were like this, you get a genuine look at what the characters are feeling. I had forgotten this scene but playing it again made me remember why I liked Sophie. It also made me connect with her as I have had loss in my family recently.

What are the pros of Ar Tonelico? I hear a lot of shit about it but it sounds interesting
>>
>>18137806

As cons, the gameplay is highly variable in quality and there is a lot of fanservice, but a pros the series has one of the best constructed worlds out there, well-developed characters, great stories and some of the best soundtracks ever composed.

Back when Neptunia first started getting popular in /v/ every single Atelier thread was shat up by people spamming Neptunia in it and saying how much better it was. I doubt it was even really Neptunia fans, but rather just shitposters who wanted to cause a fanbase war. Either way they succeeded and the fanbases have hated each other since, and the Neptunia shitposting in Atelier threads is still going on to this day.
It doesn't help that Atelier fans are butthurt about Atelier not being anywhere near as big a success in the west despite Atelier being a much better series.
>>
>>18148895
>despite Atelier being a much better series.

>>18148895
>>18148986
I don't want to sound like a hipster but I don't really want it to be popular in the west either. I mean, in order for it to do that it would have to change into something I wouldn't like.
>>
>>18149073
All Atelier needs to be popular is for KT to stop being retarded and actually market it properly, which they haven't done at all since acquiring it.
>>
>>18149073
Ar Nosurge was really popular for its time though
>>
>>18150864

Too bad that didn't get reflected in the sales numbers.
>>
atelier is getting more popular now that time limits are finally dead.

although atelier will die down again if they go back to having timers. not many people want to ng+ jrpgs, they want to take their time and experience all the content in 1 playthrough without having to use a guide to carefully plan everything.

im fine with atelier either way but killing the time limit gives it more of a chance to appeal to normies and potentially new curious fans.
>>
>>18152265

Considering the sales, I'd have to say you're being delusional here.

Just got my LydieSuelle box finally. With this, I now have all the original PS3/4 JP premium boxes of Arland, Dusk, and Mysterious. I really hope they go back to the Arland/Dusk style of boxes for the next trilogy. They were smaller but used higher quality material and were more sturdy. I had a hard time just opening the LydieSuelle box because the cardboard lip was really stubborn and I was trying not to tear it. The huge boxes look nice but they're harder to display too. Also disappointed that a corner was damaged slightly. CDJapan wrapped it in like 6 different layers of bubble wrap though so I'm not sure it's on them. It's really minor luckily and not very noticeable. Also, anyone know what's on the music CD? I'm a little worried because it's called "extra tracks and pleasure CD" or something like that. This better not be a self-insert type of thing like with Nep games where it's just a track of them fucking talking to you, otaku-kun. I'm assuming it's just the usual extra music tracks and that they haven't sunk that low. Tapestry is very cute too. That Lydie butt is for Suelle.

>>
First Ar Tonelico was the best it was a great cpmfy adventure. 2 was too chaotic and too small.
>>
>>18175184
Comfy is a shit argument for anything. But you're right that 1 was an actual adventure, 2 is walking back and forth between the same five areas for 30 hours. The budget downgrade was really obvious.
>>
>>18175237
Well, the music, art and plot made me feel a nice, sunny sensation.

I didn't knew there was a budget downgrade between the two. Why? Wasn't it the golden age for gust at the time?
>>
>>18175304
Gust's golden age was with Arland, before that nothing they made since Atelier Elie was selling very well, though Ar tonelico did sell a lot better than the Ateliers of the time. Still, the downgrade was pretty obvious when you compare the quality of the sprites and the variation in environments between them, with how many assets in 2 are copy pasted despite there being fewer areas than in 1.
>>
>>18175184

2 actually did a better work of implementing the concepts they had introduced 1 and expanding on them with them finally introducing Metafalss after only talking about it in the Hymmnoserver and the AT1 books, showing how the Metafalssians actually made their own technologies or improved on First Era tech to survive in a harsher environment than Sol Ciel (Hello? The small areas are the point of the game because the Rim is much smaller than the Wings of Horus, to say nothing of the Second Tower being the smallest of the three and also being incomplete. The conflict behind the creation of Metafalica larger would have made no sense if the region was larger).

Also, AT1 bears the sin of its Cosmospheres not being properly integrated into its plot and that a few of its events outright contradict the lore on how Song Magic and Diving work.

>>18175237
>>18175357

There was no budget downgrade, and bringing in the sprite quality as evidence is idiotic, as the sprite style was the same one that Gust had been using for Atelier Iris 3 and Mana Khemia. Plus, AT1 didn't really have that much variety in environments taking in account how the Tower interiors tileset was reused over and over, let alone sections of the Tower's own map being rooms that were copy-pasted whole.
>>
>>18175237
>>18175357
>>18176362

Additionally, how a budget downgrade would translate to AT2 having more songs and anime FMVs than AT1, or hiring top-tier voice actors like Takehito Koyasu, Miyuki Sawashiro, Ami Koshimizu or Hikaru Midorikawa for voicing the characters?

That doesn't translate to budget cuts no matter how you try to spin it.
>>
>>18138731
It's hamfisted and out of place next to the worldbuilding and character development
>>
I want Suelle to stomp me
>>
>>18177376

Some of the fanservice is actually PART of the worldbuilding. Given the Reyvateils' minds are based off human ones, and humans are sexual creatures by nature, it would be absurd for such things to not be in their minds in some way.
>>
Okay so I’ve reached the point in AT2, where I have to make the choice which path I want to take...
... and I honestly can’t remember which path is the better one for a first time player (in case of my gf)

What would you guys recommend? Should we go for Cloche or Luca story-wise?
>>
>>18178510
Jacqli
>>
>>18178510

Either is good as long as you check the other path later. Both have their own share of route-exclusive areas and scenes.
>>
>>18177376
Is this criticism from someone who has played the game? The Ar tonelico series did have scenes where there was physical contact between male and female characters, but that was solely as a means to express the “bonds” between the characters. The main character enters the mental world of the heroine, and by unleashing strong emotions, powerful song magic is born. In order to show the true heart of the heroine, we had to show the real relationships – from friendship to sexual relations - between male and females; otherwise characters would just be symbolic and fake.

In Ar tonelico, we took theme of the strongest bond between humans as being the bond between men and women, as well as the deepening of bonds between partners, so having no situations of direct interactions between male and female characters would be humanly impossible.

In Ar nosurge there are elements like this. But it is necessary in order to show the growing bond between the main character and heroine. I think this is something that the people who actually play the game will understand.

So if there are people who just look at the visuals of the game and pick up only on characters dressed skimpily or screenshots of slightly titillating scenes and make a fuss about it, then similar criticism may arise for this title. But this is not the essence of the game, and in order to show the true hearts of humans and their bonds with one another, I do not intend on compromising on this.
>>
>>18179416
He could be talking about the silly crystal insertion scenes that every game seemed to want to stick in there.
>>
>>18176362
>There was no budget downgrade, and bringing in the sprite quality as evidence is idiotic, as the sprite style was the same one that Gust had been using for Atelier Iris 3 and Mana Khemia.
Or maybe those games had less budget too, since Iris sold like crap.
>Plus, AT1 didn't really have that much variety in environments taking in account how the Tower interiors tileset was reused over and over, let alone sections of the Tower's own map being rooms that were copy-pasted whole.
The tower interior is the only part of the first game that has an issue of asset reuse, as opposed to loads of areas in 2 using the same environment assets regardless of where they were.

>>18176384
Easy, they focused their budget more on the songs and actors and reserved less for the visuals.
>>
>>18179702
the cosmospheres reused even characters from the storyline that had no place being there because they didn't want to draw another sprite. very lazy
>>
>>18180622
And 2 reused backgrounds from the cosmospheres of the first game.
>>
>>18180622
Probably because the AT programmers were very lazy, so they render characters that the reyvateil/diver know. Programmers being lazy seems like a universal constant, both in our world and in EXA_PICO. Look at some of the bugs Sarly left in Ar nosurge, fucking TxBIOS don't even work.

>Or maybe those games had less budget too, since Iris sold like crap.

Or they just overhauled the sprites' look because they wanted, just like it happened in the transition from Elie to Lilie or Lilie to Judie. Plus, as if the battle sprites in AT2 didn't have a similar look to the ones from AT1 or were even better animated than them.

>Easy, they focused their budget more on the songs and actors and reserved less for the visuals

Now you're contradicting yourself because the anime FMVs also fall in the category of visuals.

>>18180895

>And 2 reused backgrounds from the cosmospheres of the first game.

In spite of the fact they also drew multiple new backgrounds, more than the ones they reused. And it'd make no sense if they hadn't reused at least the ones for the Tower of Life or the Stonehenge due to these being a standard part of the Cosmospheres' structure.

>>18181497
>>18181627

>Probably because the AT programmers were very lazy, so they render characters that the reyvateil/diver know.

They already gave an in-universe explanation for it: Reyvateils are connected to each other to the Tower and it's possible for their consciousnesses to seep into each other's Cosmospheres even if they haven't personally met.

Also, they didn't "reuse characters from the story for the Cosmospheres", they merely used the portraits for Jakuri as stand-ins for other people in only two specific sections of the Infelsphere.

>Look at some of the bugs Sarly left in Ar nosurge, fucking TxBIOS don't even work.

More than Sarly, blame Tecmo-Koei for rushing development for all of Gust's games ever since they took over.

Actually I'm hoping for this too. My console died ages ago so my copy of Rorona is just piling dust right now, rather than buying a whole new ps I'd prefer if Koei massively ported previous games.

Guess it's all up to the market tho, Sophie and Firis did pretty well in sales, didn't they? That would be a start.

So how does undocked switch compare to vita version?
>>
>>18187748
Vita has no shadows, water is flat shading., almost no lighting outside of several scenes. Though, tt makes frame rate pretty smooth, and the colors look really bright.

Undocked Switch tries to apply some graphics effect (limited shadow & lighting), but it makes 3d models looks slightly dark instead. Characters also look blur and jaggy. They might be using Vita's low res model for characters, then upscaled them on the fly.

Overall doesn't seem like GUST put a lot of effort into QC-ing both Switch's and Vita's graphics.

Vita version uses flat shading for most things, and pre-baked shadows. Switch version tries to do half-assed lighting, and you often end up with something like this.

Also, models for characters looks really blurry above certain camera distance on Switch.
On Vita it's a lot less noticable because of the smaller screen and lower resolution.

Yes, Vita version removes a lot of objects and replace some (such as grass and patches of flowers) with textures. I didn't take a screenshot of the overlooking view of the town at the beginning of the game, but the town looks very empty on Vita version. I'm happy about them adding more characters since that was definitely needed but everything else is getting kind of excessive. According to Dengeki, LydieSuelle sold 4775 copies of PS4 version during their second week of release. The Switch and Vita didn't make it to top 50. Fiftieth place is 2960 units sold, so it's less than that. So at this point, total unit sold is anywhere between 40k~45k.

>>
>>18203619
Hopefully digital sales make up for some of it.
>>
>>18203650
Are digital sales even tracked?
>>
>>18204300
Not publicly.

With all the sales numbers posted it's important to realize that third party companies provide the numbers. These numbers only come from select retailers that are contracted to provide the information.
>>
>>18204442
I was thinking that digital sales have probably become more prominent this generation as apposed to back with Arland and Dusk back on the PS3. It's possible that LydieSuelle didn't actually sell as badly as we think first week because there may have been more digital sales while back then it was mostly just physical sales. If I remember correctly, full game downloads weren't as big on the PS3.
>>
>>18204442
That's always the case though. Why do you say this as though the numbers aren't representative, when they've been obtained in the same way for all the other titles to compare it to?
>>
>>18204656
Not that anon but my point about digital sales being more popular nowadays is my guess. Digital version is cheaper and you have to install the full game either way, it's possible that there's more Japanese gamers going digital. If the media create sales don't track digital then the numbers could be misleading. Of course, I really have no idea how much digital sales they get now compared to back on the PS3. I'm assuming there's probably more digital sales today though.
>>
>>18204623
>I was thinking that digital sales have probably become more prominent this generation
Ratio has been changing significantly, Falcom gave some good insight on it after Sen no Kiseki III's release.
>>18204656
Trying to assert sales figures based on incomplete numbers isn't remotely accurate. You can get a minimum known value, but that's far from total units sold.
>>
>>18204789
>Trying to assert sales figures based on incomplete numbers isn't remotely accurate. You can get a minimum known value, but that's far from total units sold.
The numbers have been incomplete ever since digital distribution became a thing, and it's been a thing since Rorona. If you want to argue that the reported physical sales have consistently gone down in comparison to digital sales going up, then sales for the games should logically follow a trend, but they don't. The sensible assumption to make is that the figures are still representative (and given Gust/KT's own released reports, they are), and not to claim that L&S selling poorly is totally only because it has way more digital sales for no reason, guys.
>>
>>18204851
KT's 2015/2016 report specifically notes an upwards trend in digital sales.

>and not to claim that L&S selling poorly is totally only because it has way more digital sales for no reason
I didn't mean to imply that, but I understand how "far from total" would make it seem like I was. The launch looks weaker than Firis and nobody can really deny that. It's unlikely that digital sales make up the difference.
>>
>>18204851
I wasn't really implying that. Just wanted to bring it up since its something to take into consideration. It may still not have done great but digital is more known about and used today compared to the previous generation. Also, something to think about is Vita and Switch being portable. I'm not an expert on Japanese culture but from what I understand, they utilize mobile gaming a lot. I could easily see these two being more likey to get digital sales though physical would still be the majority. Arland and Dusk games launched on home consoles and didn't get Vita versions until the ports. Again, not saying that it was the best launch ever but I think the environment today may be a little different.

On the PS3, almost all of my games were physical. On the Vita, about half of my games are physical (primarily because of Sony's bullshit proprietary storage making digital impractical). I currently own 11 Switch games (4 of which are $40+) and only a single one of them is physical; I do not intend to buy any other physical games as cartridge swapping is a hassle (but no problem if you own exactly 1 physical game), every single release is available digitally nowadays, and proper MicroSD support makes storage no problem at all. I even found myself paying extra to get digital instead of physical once because it was just so much more convenient.

Digital on consoles is growing very fast, and I think in particular for the Switch - the first handheld to have all releases available digitally and also a handheld with cheap storage - physical sales numbers are no longer reliable.

Though I'm not saying L&S's sales were not bad; it's the kind of title that appeals to players who usually prefer old-fashioned physical releases, so digital release sales are probably dependent on how many people beyond the usual fans bought the game - something which is very hard to guess at.

Mana Khemia had the sweetest battle system, I don't understand why Gust couldn't have kept that and just renovated the rest.

The True End in Yoruku2 was terrible. Rue gets left alone while Alushe and Liliana disappears into the ether? Really?
