Well /jp/, I'm afraid this is probably my last mangagamer tracker update on account of the fact that I haven't bought any english translated VNs this year and haven't really been following the translated scene anymore.

If anyone is interested in taking up the torch(especially someone who regularly buys translated VNs, so they can supply order numbers at opportune comparison intervals), you're more than welcome to do so. None of the pastebins below will expire either.

Shocking secret of the mangagamer sales tracker: If you use the fill tool on the white of the image, you'll learn that there's been a japanese bird cooking spaghetti this entire time

Pastebin of every order number collected uptil today, paste it into excel/equivalent program to make any necessary charts:

>>
>>18137671

>>
>>18137656
If he's so good at writing maybe he should try writing his own game script, instead of rewriting other people's.
>>
>>18137736
Translation is rewriting.
>>
>>18137740
Have you played any of the games he's rewritten?
>>
>>18137745
Yes.
>>
>>18137749
And you really think that rewriting Phoenix Wright to take place in the US was good, let alone necessary?
>>
>>18137740
To what extension it should be a rewrite is debatable. At the very least, there are inarguably wrong ways to translate something.

>>18137763
I do think that while the setting change largely works, mainly because the Ace Attorney series is inherently wacky enough to force it to work, there's no good reason for it. The main justification was because all of the Japanese pun names were made into English pun names, but willing suspension of disbelief would have been sufficient even if the setting stayed in Japan.
>>
>>18137763
>Contrary to this surrounding evidence, the English language version of the game establishes the setting as the United States, all thanks to a single piece of evidence from the very first chapter. Though this choice would become less believable with each passing sequel, Smith explains how his hands were tied on the matter: "Normally, what you do in a situation like that is leave [the location] vague. You just say, 'Hey, we're in Nowhere Land,' and you adapt the cultural references that will go over the heads of your audience. The specificity of the setting had to be made because there was an episode where this guy has some sort of clock his girlfriend gave him. It had to be set to some time zone, and we were like, 'Oh, crap. I guess we have to be specific about it.' So we just chose that without really thinking that much about it. And I know this has become an issue in later games, especially—the difficulty in selling where the game is set. The Japanese references have gotten layered on heavier and heavier and heavier."
>>
>>18137779
What were the original time zones used in the Japanese version?

It's still their fault for not using those in the first place. The worst part about the location change is that it's used as an excuse to never translate the Great Ace Attorney games.
>>
>>18137790
I dunno. I was just providing his justification. But even Smith admits it was a short-sighted fuck-up overall. But I don't really think it detracts from the entire translation of that title, it's mostly fairly good.
>>
>>18137779
>Normally, what you do in a situation like that is leave [the location] vague.
So this is the first case and the game is establishing a location. Since he can't leave it vague he completely changes it. Makes perfect sense.
>>
>>18137798
It'd be awfully strange if they kept it in Japan given the localized puns they were going with. I'm guessing that piece of evidence was more like the final push towards localizing it completely in America. After all, there were tons of puns that would have to be localized anyway, since they would make no sense directly translated, and would confuse the non-weeb audience if they just left them as romanji. That might be acceptable for the eroge market which is filled with weebs that know the terminology, but certainly not for a release from a major publisher that wants to appeal to as many people as possible.
>>
In defense of the English translation of Phoenix Wright, location problems aside (which only became an issue in the sequels), just about everyone I know who has played both says it's one of the few games where the English translation adds so much to the experience and makes the game even better. If you've ever played a Phoenix Wright game, you'd know it's full of puns and wordplay that apparently is absent in the Japanese version. Much of the game's charm is due to it's translation.
>>
>>18137793
Seems like translation in a nutshell. "Rewriting it with made up content made it harder to sell because people got angry, and now nothing makes sense. But it is all the customers fault for not accepting a better version".
>>
>>18138065
You mean "English Localizer attitude in a nutshell".

I have no idea how is it possible that after all these years, more sensible and literal translators haven't gotten jobs in these positions. How and why is that the people who are paid to make Nip games sell in the outside world still have this absurd idea that Japan itself is kryptonite to the average customer? How out of touch with the real world does one have to be?
>>
>>18138088
>more sensible and literal translators haven't gotten jobs in these positions
because their translations read like poop.

>who are paid to make Nip games sell in the outside world still have this absurd idea that Japan itself is kryptonite to the average customer?
in the case of Phoenix Wright, this was never the argument.
>>
>>18138098
>because their translations read like
I don't give a shit what it reads "like". I want to know what the more complex sentences mean when I hear them being spoken. Incidentally, such sentences are usually translated well regardless of who does it. However that only serves to highlight how much rewrite shit they add into the simple everyday conversations, which is what I have the most beef with. That's just translations in general and not specifically for PW.

>this was never the argument.
So what was the argument then?

>I want to know what the more complex sentences mean when I hear them being spoken
learn japanese

>So what was the argument then?
see above
>>
>>18138137
But people are learning Japanese with games where they read the translation and listen to the voices.

It is the rewrite hacks that make people not learn Japanese because they ruin the material. Which ironically I guess saves their jobs as if people can't learn Japanese they will need future rewrites.
>>
>>18138158
that's pretty half baked, should just take up Japanese in full. all you're getting with literal translations is awkward English, inevitably all great translations make liberal changes, big or small
>>
>>18138166

>>
>>18138166
>inevitably all great translations make liberal changes
People like you are why ML Alternative started to fall apart when the text started adding in some ridiculous amount of imaginary stuff that isn't even English even when characters are saying simple things. Could already feel it creeping in during Ult while Extra was practically free of it. Doesn't help that the main character only speaks up every now and then so I have to deal with lingering doubts about the unvoiced text.

When a translation strays too far from what is being said, even a completely fresh EOP can detect when two voiced lines that are exactly the same get subbed differently. The effect is jarring ANY customer out of the experience and that is not desirable no matter how much undeserved pride that liberal localizer may have in his work. Pride in being able to look up a thesaurus, I guess.

There are very few things in modern Japanese that are said backwards compared to English and necessitate the translated text reordering the sentences to make it sound natural. Doing this is perfectly fine. Mangling the text when a character has a slight accent or rough demeanor is not. Using other foreign languages for any reason is absolutely NOT.
>>
>>18138214
>>When a translation strays too far from what is being said, even a completely fresh EOP can detect when two voiced lines that are exactly the same get subbed differently.
guess what, this happens in the original language all the time, too.
>Mangling the text when a character has a slight accent or rough demeanor is not.
i'm assuming you consider any maintaining of the character's original tone to be a mangling of the text, no? i don't really understand why you would want all characters to sound the same when they don't in the original product.

people always get so extreme when it comes to this topic. acknowledge that inevitably things have to be rewritten, and all of a sudden you think i'm advocating for an entire overhaul of the script. there is a middle ground here. i am not saying to go full retard like the ChronoClock editor.

There might be a middle ground, but it's not where most translations fall. I've seen a few books that were supposed to be for helping people learn to read literature in Japanese by providing a literal translation alongside the original Japanese text, but I think they'd make far better translation guides. They manage to be more literal than the translations people complain about while also reading better than most literal translations.
>>
>>18138232
Regardless of middle ground, I think the one thing translators need to learn is that "less is more". Not as in "don't translate at all", but as in how you shouldn't create new problems by changing too much.

Crunchyroll helped fund/co-produce the Dies irae anime.

>>
>>18140922
translation is solid but the publisher cut content though. Some anon made a restoration patch to restore it but frontwing DMCA'd it. This is only an issue if you actually buy it, if you choose to pirate it there's a torrent with the VN + fan restoration patch.
>>
>>18140922

but he's a retard so you shouldn't listen to anything he has to say
>>
>>18140952
It's not a huge issue as the cut content was only the bestiality CG, not the text itself, but it deserves mentioning.
>>
>>18140996
>only
Fuck them. Anything cut doesn't deserve money.
>>
>>18140996
what was cut wasn't really an issue, it's literally just 1 cg. The fact it was cut is the issue though. It shows that the publisher doesn't care for the integrity of their published titles and will be cutting content that they don't agree with further down the road. It could be more bestiality, or it could be loli, or it could be any gay scenes. They cited legal reasons for it but the company they used to publish their official restoration patch (JAST) has already had bestiality scenes in their previous titles. Not to mention 2D depictions of bestiality aren't illegal in the west last I checked. Maybe Canada, but canada bans everything remotely obscene in terms of fetish's.

>>
>>18137779
Watching the American translators suffer is the best part of the Ace Attorney series. The Japanese developers are just fucking with them at this point. I imagine when the last game featured a case based entirely around Rakugo, the translation team began openly weeping.

The day they give up and just move the series to Japan is the day I'm done with the series.
>>
>>18141064
>The fact it was cut is the issue though
Yep. I have enough of this shittery in my normal games. I don't want it here as well.
>>
>>18138255
I'm still pissed about that translation. Not only did they cut half the script out completely to save time, but they gave the entire cast accents so think that's it's basically unreadable half the time. And since the Dragon Quest series actually has continuity now, the whole cast of IV talk like clowns when they show up in voiced parts. I mean, it's okay for Taloon, he's always a clown, but Russian Alena talks like an idiot.
>>
>>18141300
For some reason it didn't really bug me in V. I was kinda disappointed IV didn't have party chat like V did, it adds so much to the characters in V.
>>
>>18141109
As the other anon said he gets angry over everything.
For Frontwing, from what I remember, he got caught shit talking them years ago on IRC while working on Grisaia and someone reported it to them and they weren't so happy with him and dropped him from other projects.

That was Dovac's story. There's something you should know about Dovac though. He's a serial liar, and blames literally everything on the Japanese companies. You do realise this is about why herkz is so butthurt with Frontwing and not just Dovac being Dovac?
>>

When you do nothing but deflect from Sekai Project being pieces of shit in the same way that they're always pieces of shit, your motivations are transparent.
>>

What the fuck are you on about? Read the reply chain you fucktard. The whole thing was originally about why herkz is butthurt and you was the one who brought in Sekai Project. We all know they are shit but you take the obsession to the next level.

Old news.
>>
>>18145113
It's one of my favorite VN series, the cast is interesting, the humor is legit hilarious, the routes are fun as hell and over the top, at least in my opinion. If you like military talk/trivia/jokes like me, there's plenty of it too.
I'd say give the first game a shot and see if you like it.
>>
>>18145113
Yes, but skip Phantom Trigger series entirely. It's a cheap cash grab that wasn't even meant to be part of the Grisaia series originally.
>>
>>18142123
I dislike Herkz as well. People that try to make everything about them are usually the problem. Eventually someone new will rise up.
>>
>>18142099
To be fair, if the Dies Irae ks taught anyone anything, it's that the Japanese side aren't angels. The Muv Luv KS also had problems because of the Japanese side. There's also how Nitroplus being in charge of programming the Nitroplus VNs JAST releases slows down the already slow release schedule.

Fuck Dovac regardless, he seems to exaggerate the blame that can be placed on Japan.
>>
>>18146273
The Japanese seem to treat us as aliens. With things like making the Sharin no kuni T-shirt print an old man. Don't think they would have tried that at home to get more pledges.
>>
>>18143234
Can confirm, talked to the dev. They said if sekai releases the game on steam they're going to sue.
>>
>>18146273
is thats whats holding up JAST? seems like most everything on the list is in translation or editing stage
>>
>>18147923
There's only two Nitro+ games on JAST's list right now, and Django's been "waiting on translation" for eight years. Even if Nitro+ do hold things up when they're involved, JAST is glacial on their own a lot of the time.
>>
>>18147511
Man, Sekai Project brings more drama to the west than visual novels.
At this point I hope they release it on steam just to see them suffer.
>>
>>18147923
Programing on Hanachirasu took so long because the Kaigen's Ambition side game didn't work on Windows 8. Nitro+ took their time fixing the issues. The other games are taking so long because of mismanagement by Jast.
>>
>>18148003

I'm half expecting JAST to cancel Sumaga and Django and try to swap the licenses for something else from the Nitro+ Catalog. (Similar to how they swapped Cleavage for Starless at Empress and cited the lack of uncensored CGs as the reason).

Most of the Nitro+Chiral stuff have complete patches they can use.

How much time has it been since the last news of Angel Beats?
>>
>>18149555
The last time it was green in this thread was May of 2016, where it was also at 50% translated.
>>
>>18149431
why would they do that? throw away translation/editing already done?
>>
>>18151064
You see, JAST has the habit of not checking translation quality UNTIL the "translation" is done. In some cases, no translation is better than what was given. Part of the delay is that. I find this absolutely puzzling since Payne actually knows Japanese.

The Bell Chimes for Gold developer has also been expressing frustration with sekai project lately, it sounds like a lot of sekai's projects are a mess.
>>

Egh, why are all these developers so entitled? SP doesn't make much profit, so why would they bother putting in any effort? Jeez.
>>

Can't really blame them, Sekai licenses almost everything that they can put on steam or kickstarter for a quick buck and then leaves it for 2+ years doing nothing.
Then fans complain about delays and they release a rushed, unfinished/unstable mess. Just look at their last 2 releases.

So, they have been sitting for 1 year whole year with the complete version refusing to publish it and now the developer released it themselves because of that?
How messed up do you need to be, they pretty much were waiting for the best time to sell it/do a kickstarter to make the most amount of money from it.
>>
>>18152148
>Yuzusoft
western market is just some free pocket money for them unlike doujinshi circles.
>>
>>18152732
How messed up do you have to be to sit on a finished product for a year straight all because you want some Kickstarter shekels?

This is an obscure title. There's no way it was going to get a bunch of sales, or a bunch of Kickstarter bucks either way - Sekai themselves were doing fuckall to market it, too, only having made 2 tweets about it total. There was never going to be an "ideal" time to sell it, it was always going to sell the same - and given Sekai's terrible release schedule anyway, they would've likely had done some retarded shit like releasing it during a sale or something.

Honestly, the developer is in the right on this.
>>
I just don't understand why they license these obscure titles in the first place. Isn't their primary market moefags on Steam? It almost seems like they're flinging as much shit as they possibly can at the wall and hoping that something sticks.

The reports of untranslated text, typos, grammatical errors, and unintelligible sentence structure are not what you should expect from a Sekai Project release. We’re embarrassed and ashamed. This was a project everyone was excited for and we screwed up. There is no specific blame to be put on anyone on our team, we messed up as a whole. It would be nice if more companies realize that Sekai is incompetent. With both partner companies and consumers becoming more and more disgruntled with Sekai (even fucking Fuwanovel), their business will collapse at the rate they're going. Well, I wouldn't mind if they stopped localizing altogether and simply stuck to OELVNs.

Sol Press and Mikandi Japan have issues, but both seem to have learned from their mistakes or at least are showing a visible effort to do so. It would be nice if they robbed some of the smaller licenses from Sekai, and they profited from that. Mangagamer already has too much to deal with, and JAST is too slow.

Osananajimi wa Daitouryou is a great moege if all you're looking for is something light-hearted with an emphasis on comedy. The story never even tries to take itself seriously so it will remain simple, funny, and cute throughout. It's been a long time since I read it, but I remember enjoying it a lot whenever I needed a few chuckles.

I thought Wagamama High Spec was an enjoyable slice of life read if you can handle every female in existence having cow tits. Its strength is that it avoids a lot of the melodramatic bullshit that tends to bog down many other stories. What little drama is does have is usually resolved very quickly. You won't find any deep plot and some of the routes barely have any overarching plot at all. It's mostly the characters just screwing around with typical romance comedy elements.

Come to think of it, why don't we ever see fansub groups trying their hands on VNs on their downtime? I mean, there are a lot less of them now and back then VN engines were less well understood, but it just seems like a missed opportunity to have more raw manpower. Because of the speed necessary to compete in the fansub world before the Horrible method took over completely, the subs tended towards more literal translations with only minor adjustments; seems perfect for our NEET needs.

That's not the reason. Capcom doesn't need a reason to screw over Ace Attorney fans. Miles Edgeworth 2 was fantastic, and they never even considered bringing it over. It's also annoying that they haven't done a physical release for the games since the original DS.

Capcom doesn't care about US fans of Ace Attorney, we're not a big enough fanbase to get them to care. There is no problem with the Great Ace Attorney that could stop it from coming over if they wanted it to.

At least we got Rance, Evenicle and Funbag Series from last years survey.
>>
>>18156101
It would take a lot for Sekai to regain my trust. I don't think it's conceivable at this point.

One difference between Sekai and the other companies is that the other companies' biggest screw ups were early in their lifetime, and they've tried their best to repeat the same mistakes soon after fan criticism. MG translated Edelweiss horribly, but have since retranslated it twice with future releases not being that bad, JAST censored Family Project a long time ago but have since stopped censoring stuff without offerring a patch to uncensor it, Frontwing had the controversy with the subpar Michiru fan disk release but had future releases largely without issue (There's Subahibi, but that's not the same type of mistake), Mikandi Japan is going out of its way to retranslate Libra, and Sol Press got new staff to try to improve the Sakura Sakura TL.

Neither JAST nor MG are perfect as you still get the meh translation here or there. Any bad translations don't happen nearly as consistently with them as with Sekai Project though. In addition, Sekai seems to be slower than JAST at times, which I wouldn't have imagined possible back when Sekai started up.

Frontwing still seems kind of iffy to me with their mistakes in the first Sharin no Kuni campaign and the Subahibi censorship. They seem to be trying to be in good graces with their customers though unlike Sekai. It's more than I can say about Light or arguably Age.
>>
>>18153069
This rings so hollow after Dovac straight up saying western fans of Visual Novels having too high expectations in response to Clockwork Leyline's release
>>
>>18157009
I wouldn't be surprised if the survey was why Sengoku and RQ were announced at the same time as opposed to just one Rance game or a Beat game.

Rather than helping to get new partners, the survey seems more useful to say which games you want from current partners, at least that's how I've always used it. Most new partners demanded on the survey are well known enough that MG already tried talking to them. At best, if you ask for a VN that isn't from a current partner, you're likely to just get something in the same genre (Sorcery Jokers instead of Fate/Stay Night for example).

The genres you pick are probably more obviously important to MG since it's probably easier to get a hidden gem you'll end up liking because it fits your interests rather than a hyped up kamige.
>>
>>18157009
Well, for one they use it to gather information about purchasing habits and demographics. As for the license requests, it's probably mostly brainstorming, advertisement, and favorable PR. It looks good to accept feedback from your fans even if you usually can't follow through with most of the outlandish requests. On occasion it may be helpful too. I like to delude myself into believing that Mangagamer showed the survey results to Alicesoft as evidence of how many people were clamoring for Rance and Evenicle. Consider it one small chip used at the bargaining table (with stuff like actual sales numbers being a much larger chip). We were definitely going to get more Rance titles given how well Rance VI sold, but I wasn't expecting Evenicle to be brought over so quickly. I was convinced we would get something like Escalayer first.
>>
>>18157132
Let me tell you my friend, Sekai won't change as long as steam drones keep buying/backing their games. Why would they put money, time and effort when they can release a below standard translated visual novel with so many issues and it still sells. They got 90k $ from Hoshizora alone, it's a visual novel originally released in 2009 so I doubt they paid much for it. They pretty much get the translation/license cost back from the kickstarter alone.

>regain
Picture related is when I first started to hate Sekai Project.
But then beyond that literally all of their projects ended up being delayed. I am honestly not sure whether or not they have had a single release ever that was actually on time.
And of course they've also kept doing kickstarters left and right for just about everything. Forcing their customers to pay upfront and take the risks that they should actually be taking. And they've kept going with these crowd fund initiatives since long after they moved beyond being a so called start-up company.
And in addition to all of that. Their releases have still been of sub par quality in the vast majority of cases even when they've finally reached the point where they're actually sold.
And the Baldr Sky thing happened.
And they even went as far as killing Aroduc.

And of course throughout all of this. They've been absolute shitheads towards their actual customers and their market at large. In regards to just about any of their concerns, or just in general.
Seriously fuck them. Any notions I could possibly have of them possibly growing into a promising addition to the localization business, they crushed swiftly and thoroughly right off the bat. And they've never once given me any have any hope in them since. I never even had any time to build any hope.

The history just keeps repeating itself. Sekai Project does a shit job, outright messes up, and or outright lies and or misrepresent something.
And when people, including their very customers show concern. Sekai Project just respond with scorn and literal insults. While squirming like a fucking snake in an attempt to shield themselves from criticism.
Things would be so much better without them around.
>>
The Newton Kickstarter finished with a total of 1,361 backers for $88,095 (roughly $65 per backer). That works out to be nearly identical to what Hoshimemo brought in, (2 backers and $750 less). It is a significant jump over the 584 backers for $28,810 that Sakura Sakura managed to achieve with their first attempt (probably a result of a much more attractive game and better PR).
>>
>>18157009

Worst part of sekai isn't necessarily that they're bad. Most companies started off that way, Mangagamer and jast both used to be bad, mikandi is still bad (but putting in effort). The issue is that they aren't trying to get better. In fact, I think they're just straight up getting worse over time. That should be hard since they started from a pretty rough base line, but at this point most of their games are straight up broken.

Chrono Clock was the last thing I bought from them, after that I said never again.
>>
>>18158468
It was when they went from shit to worse than Edelweiss version 1.
>>
>>18158381
I didn't say it was good English. Incredibly bad and cringe-inducing English is still English.
>>
>>18158748
It's still english but what's the point? If the "official" translation is as good as a machinetl why would i pay for it?

>At least Chrono Clock had all the dialogue in English.

I understand the point you're making, but I can't help but laugh at Chrono Clock being used as an example of a title translated fully into English. If we were to argue semantics I could claim that translating Japanese text into romaji does not qualify as a full translation. What tickles me even more is how the same script refused to use honorifics, went with "dearest brother" instead of "nii-sama", and "insert name" instead of "senpai" because no one in the western world uses honorifics so it confuses the jinsei out of us, amirite my tomodachis?
>>
Chaos;Child otu yet?
>>
>>18158951
You don't. I didn't say it was worth paying for. I think it's utter crap that shouldn't be witnessed by human eyes. It's just that it didn't sink even lower into the abyss of horribleness by having QC so crap that untranslated lines can make it in. Although, maybe I should have used WagaHigh? That one seemed like it was decently done, from what I can remember.

>>18159384
It is impressively lazy localization, with Dorothy's quirk easily managed with some actual thought. Personally, I think turning the script pseudo-British and peppering the word "buster" everywhere is even more jarring.

wagahigh was a perfect example of a solid translation with little to no effort anywhere else. They used the original outdated version instead of the updated release which supported more system options and the nude sprite patch, they didn't bother translating any of the images, they didn't bother with the fandisc either.

It's basically just a fan translation that only had text translation + QC. I'm really surprised that they didn't bother editing ANY of the images since none of them should be particularly difficult or time consuming to do. When you have a 2 man fan-translation team putting more effort into their fan releases than an actual company with access to developer tools and assets, you know something is really fucked up.
>>
>>18159972
They never edit/translate images.
Even SakuSaku has untranslated images, Leyline too.

Aroduc should save Sumaga and Django for JAST. Not like he has anything better to do right now.
>>
>>18160397
I'd like someone competent to translate Django though.
>>
>>18158365
Wasn't Clannad basically an edited version of the original TLwiki translation? IIRC, someone compared the two and claimed that the two translations both had similar TL errors.

>>18160104
Incidentally, I've heard that it's one of the few titles without mosaics. I wonder if the team just happened to care for that yuri game.
>>
>>18152692
Lol that's true maybe they have so many titles in the backlog they can not catch up.
>>
>>18160403

After they get Meru to finish Flowers they should put her on Django and Sumaga. She at least seems competent.

Hikari Field's Chinese translation of Sakura no Mori Dreamers doesn't seem to have sold much, it has less than a thousand owners accourding to steamspy, while their Tayutama2 release had 18,000.

The Chinese release of Sakura no Mori has thus far peaked at 44 concurrent users and dropped off fairly quickly, with a daily peak of just 18. By comparison, the Chinese release of Tayutama 2 has an all time peak 155, but more importantly it is still being played with a daily peak of 42 yesterday (nearly the absolute peak for Sakura no Mori). The numbers for Sakura no Mori are likely to resemble quite a few recent English releases, although it does have a lower price point by comparison ($18 base price, or an equivalent of $13.56 price point from Chinese sales). There certainly has been a drop in the Chinese market (recent English and English+Chinese VN releases have also seen fewer Chinese reviews), though I imagine the upcoming Lose titles will likely do better for Hikari Field than Sakura no Mori.

>>18160747
Looking ahead, Sekai's primary upcoming Kickstarters would likely include something for Yuzusoft, Baldr Sky, and Rewrite+, none of which are likely to struggle to get a high total (especially that last one). Perhaps their recent struggles would dampen something like Nanairo Reincarnation, though even something like that would likely do acceptable for Sekai thanks to them using an extremely low goal and justifying the Kickstarter as solely funding physical copies.

>>18158009
When MG joined the scene, they found failure after failure and did what they could to improve themselves solely to try to stay afloat. Additionally they suffered from the initial impression of the horrible Edelweiss release which haunted them for a long time. Thus there was heavy pressure to minimize costs, and to put a heavy focus on quality since they needed to deal with their bad reputation that constantly plagued their efforts.

Mikandi had a successful Kickstarter, but ended up losing money on Libra and is now just trying what they can (and taking advantage of their strong PR, making use of it with the Sol Press partnership for Newton). That said, while their ongoing effort to revise the translation of Libra is welcomed, it isn't likely to bring them much in the way of new revenue.

Sekai on the other hand found instant success since they showed up right as Kickstarters and Steam were peaking and made an early fortune, so their early focus was on getting as many big titles as they could regardless of the costs. Now they need to adapt to a very different market, which involved cutting corners and trying to reduce costs, and try to find a way to make a profit on the expensive early licenses they picked up. That said, there hasn't been that much pressure on Sekai to focus on quality releases because frankly, Steam generally doesn't care, and there has been far more pressure from Kickstarter backers to just release titles quickly, thus you get lazy half ass releases. Although these recent screw-ups with Hoshimemo and LeyLine will likely add some more pressure to focus on quality, and they'll likely feel the need to address it more directly in future Kickstarters. That said, any improvement in this regards is likely to be having QC make sure there are no obvious issues like untranslated lines, technical issues, or obvious grammar errors in a release (something most people will notice), instead of a full effort to do better translation and editing passes (something with little actual payoff on Steam since English VN buyers don't seem to give a fuck).

>>18160898
Any full Steam block was short lived (although it is reasonable to expect a full block may come sooner than later). Testing with one of the sites that tests if something is blocked there, at the moment the Steam Store seems to be unblocked but Steam Community is blocked.
>>
>>18159972
Would have bought it a long time ago if it had nude sprite patch and was sold in an actual store that works. But leave it to Sekai to fail at two points.
>>
>>18161083
The nude patch is pretty meh. I downloaded the original to check it out. All the sprites appear nude in the fandisc anyway.
>>
>>18155802

>>
>>18160997
At the very least they shouldn't be able to run a kickstarter for 2236 A.D. assuming they were planning to.
Of course they might be planning to run a kickstarter and using physical copies as the excuse, but that excuse would ring very hollow when it has already been on sale.

If Dies Irae is a snorefest I think someone needs to invent a word for the gazillion moege released each year because snorefest doesn't even begin to describe them.
>>
>>18169165
I can read a moege in a few days. I've been trying to read DI ever since R18 came out. The plethora of endless fights full of complete bullshit and disappointing outcomes got old before I even started reading it. I've read one route, and the next one is exactly the fucking same. I mean, they just change the minor characters in the scenes, but they even say the same things.
>>
>>18169352
Also, I should mention that I backed DI kickstarter because of you fucks. That lead me to never buy another VN ever again.
>>
>>18169352
Been playing it myself, I'm going through the second route (of Amantes Amentes, I just boot up the R18 version to read the the h-scenes on the side after I'm done with the respective routes).
The second route diverges quite a bit from the first at a point, but I do admit the first part is very similar.
I think the fights are really neat personally, and this is coming from someone that tends to avoid everything with combat that doesn't involve "realistic" firearms/military. I also like all the characters so dialogues are never boring in my opinion.

Maybe it's just not clicking for you, I dunno. I think it has a lot of charm.

>>18169373
Welp. I pirated the game.
>>
>>18169041
Done, I also linked the reddit thread where people complain about it.
>>
>>18169382
You should be reading Acta because of the resolution and having the H-scenes happen when they're supposed to happen. Then ctrl through Amantes for unlocking the bonus content.
>>
>>18169382
>>18169352
The first route is the worst route if you are following the recommended play order. Is basically a long winded bad end that is used as an info dump for the later routes. You don't even get to meet the 3 bigger round table members in it.
Though if you aren't a fan of the fights in the first place then you probably won't like the later ones either even if they are better.
>>
>>18169494
No, I read Kei first. Fuck the recommended order. Marie is the cutest, so I will read her last, provided I make it that far.
