What's the best (easiest to work with and least expensive) gun store in the Los Angeles County/Orange County area for FFL transfers?

About to become a hasguns next week. How do you deal with noguns/"WHY DO YOU NEED THAT" friends in regards to going to their house? Are you required to inform them that you're carrying a concealed firearm, or can you just not mention it? North Carolina btw.
>>
>>36068348
Just don't mention it and if they ask just tell them it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
>>
>>36068057

Looking at buying a rifle soon, want some opinions. I'm between the M1a, a BM-59, and one of the CMP specials (308 garand). The BM-59 seems like an alright deal because the receiver and barrels are brand new, the surplus parts are supposed to be good condition, it comes with a bipod, and a muzzle device, and I'm also a fan of the op rod. The cons are the expensive proprietary magazine, and I've heard that it doesn't care for 308 ammo. The Springfield is a good option for the platform, and would be a safe bet. The CMP special would be the cheapest of the 3, and I can use the same enblock clips I already have for my garand.
Might also consider a Fulton armory for the USGI part usage and better craftsmanship, but honestly the price seems a little too high.
Really a fan of my Garand, she's just getting too expensive to feed so I need to adopt a little brother.
TL/DR give opinions on which M14 replica model rifle is best please.
>>
>>36068348
Why the fuck would you even mention it?

It's a gun, not your penis, you don't need to try to brag about it.

Carry concealed and don't tell them unless you get into the conversation and you discover they are all gun owners and are also carrying.

If you come up to you friends door and say "hey, i'm carrying a gun, just so you know" you are probably gonna make it really awkward to the point that he is going to get worried, even if he likes guns.
>>
Looking to buy a tactical flashlight, something with at least 200 lumens would be good, I want momentary and constant-on, operated by half-press and full-press with a tailcap switch, a pocket clip (preferably bezel down) AND most importantly, I don't want a tailcap mode switch, since I need to press as many times as i may need without having to go through different modes, so a turn tail switch or side switch are required.

In fact, I don't care much for different modes, I can live with one or two modes.

I think something with around 500 lumens would be ideal, i need something that fits my pocket and for general use too since I don't plan to have several dedicated lights, I'll have it by my bedside, in my pocket when carrying at night and when on a trip or something, so no 900 lumen, modified shit or extremely big/small lights required.
>>
>>36070123
Wasn't sure if there was some law where you had to let the owner know that you were carrying a weapon on their property. Glad to know I can just keep it under the radar.
>>
I don’t know shit about them but I want an ar-15. Where do i go to get info? I tried googling but there are so Manucho different varieties and manufacturers I was in way over my head. Or is there a general /k/ approved AR?
>>
>>36070558
Seriously, a bone-stock KISS carbine from any quality manufacturer is a good start. Only make mods later for things you NEED. Do not become a mod queer. It is a waste of time.
>>
>>36070558
Palmetto State Armory is the cheapest you'll find and they are just fine as first ARs.
>>
>>36070598
I would concur if you added the caveat to buy their premium line. Their budget line has been disappointing for me.

Thanks other question, is it always a better option to buy upper/lower online vs. buying assembled one in store? Not looking for lame mods like flashlight, night vision, grenade launchers etc. just basic rifle to get myself into the world of these beautiful weapons.
>>
>>36070629
I would recommend a factory upper if you are starting. Getting the barrel torqued properly takes special tools and a little work. You won't really save any money if you build your own in today's market. Lowers are pretty easy to build. You may launch some detent pins to oblivion so I would have extras on-hand so you do not crawl on your knees for 4 hours looking for a fifty cent pin. In today's market, though, you should be able to get a complete rifle for a good price with the assumption that it has had some function testing. Any upper will snap right to any lower under most conditions. Misfits are fairly rare. The lower will be a 4473 item.

I bought a West German P226 in very good condition at my LGS for a fair price, but the gun gave away the fact that its previous owner was a boomer fudd. The guy painted the trigger, decocker, takedown lever, and slide stop gold, but the thing that has me worried is that he jeweled the barrel.

My question is: would a gunsmith be able to revert the jeweling and make it look normal for a reasonable price?

I bought this 1921 manufacture Colt 1908 .380 for 325$

It's a little rough. I'm wondering if I should sell it as is and try to get a profit? Or see if it can be refinished and sell it.

The grips aren't original, I don't know which grips came with nickel plated 1908s. It got pitting bad underneath them.

Why in fuck do HK and Sig Sauer insist on using fuck huge slides?

I've decided I want to CC a hammer fired pistol; CZ slides are too fucking small, and Sig/HK gats are big and heavy to an unnecessary degree.

because they're aesthetic as fuck. Also, just get a p30sk. The slide isn't too fuckhuge, and the weight is around the same as a glock 19. Light enough to carry, and makes for amazing recoil absorption on such a small pistol.

>I recently won an auction online and put you down as my FFL, could you send a copy of your FFL license to the seller?
>His email address is ______
>>
>>36074205
I think they usually fax it.

If it's a large gun store there's a decent chance they've already been used by your seller (assuming they're also a gun store/ffl) and are on file.

Should work though. You're a customer, they want your money, no need to overthink this. They've done it before guaranteed and will help you out so they can take your money. You checked before hand to make sure your gun store accepts FFL transfers right? Also important to know what their fee is.
>>
>>36074274

If you just want a rifle, there are better options than the Garand or its derivatives.

If you want one of those rifles in particular the calculation becomes more complicated because the best choice depends on what you intend to do with it. Which company sells the best wallhanger is different from which company sells the best national match rifle.

It's a method of locking the action to safely fire high pressure rounds (more than .380, below that and straight blowback with a fixed barrel work fine). There's not enough room in a pistol for a rotating bolt to lock the action, so tilting barrel is pretty much the only good way to do it.

Get Kapton tape and (depending on the type of christmas lights) you can take one of the bulbs out and wrap 90% of the bulb wires with the tape and then re-install the bulb normally. The lights will be significantly dimmer no matter if it's a parralel or series circuit light. It just depends on how the actual bulbs are made.

I really enjoy that platform of rifles. I like that the piston is located below the barrel, and the sights are super close to the bore line. Makes shooting irons incredibly joyful to me. Don't want a wallhanger. Just going to be shooting it for enjoyment, maybe hunt once a year with it, if at all. Don't have any SHTF expectations or home defense scenarios that I don't already have guns for. This one is just for the joy of shooting.

>>36070739
My local Cerakote dude would do a job like that for free but I'd expect most places to charge no more than $50 to media blast the barrel for you. Jeweling is easy to remove, but metalwork is a destructive process. Removing more material could affect barrel lockup and therefore accuracy. I'd caution you not to do it unless the gun is already clapped out.

If you want that much light you're going to need to use CR123s at least and maybe an 18650. That'll make the light bigger and heavier. Some respected Chinese budget brands are Fenix, Thrunite, Nitecore, Jetbeam, Sunwayman, Eagletac and Zebralight. FourSevens and Surefire also make nice stuff but not particularly cheap.

Silicone socks work well and are cheap. If the case has worked, might as well keep using it. Just check on the gun periodically and give it an oil wipedown from time to time. I just keep my stuff in my closet, no special treatment. I oil guns I know I won't touch for a long time.

>>36076517
No, you need to be 21 to fill out the paperwork, and the paperwork assumes you are buying the gun immediately. Just wait.

It's not impossible but you will be scrutinized. ATF doesn't like kitchen table FFLs, so you'd better be doing some significant business. Call some kitchen table FFLs in your area and ask some questions; if the address isn't a giveaway just look it up on google maps to see if it's a house.

Alright /k/, I need your help on this one.

So I found this piece of metal in my carpet and started playing with it in my hand. As I did, I noticed my fingers turning black, so I smelled them and it smelled just like an unclean gun. Naturally, as many of you would, I tried figuring out what gun it could've possibly came from and I determined that based on the diameter it was likely something off a 9mm. I dissembled 4 out my 5 guns chambered in 9mm, and my only .380, and couldn't find anything wrong with them. My last 9mm hasn't been in the house in months so I doubt it came from that, plus I just shot it earlier today and it functioned fine.

Long story short. I found a thing and I have no clue what it is, but I think it broke off a gun. Help.

>>
>>36089392
Because I really don't want it to be a broken piece of a gun, I'm gonna go with this answer. I'll just assume the reason why it smelled like guns was because I hadn't washed my hands yet since I went shooting earlier today.

I don't know of any. There are integrally suppressed 9mm AR barrels but the baffles are removable as is only logical.

Why do you want this bizarre configuration instead of a normal silencer you can completely disassemble? You can't drop a whole barrel assembly into an ultrasonic cleaner, you can't replace damaged parts easily, the ONLY benefit to such a thing would be one less $200 stamp and if you're buying NFA, $200 is not a concern.

>>36092495
We'll never know because Magpul was never able to produce it. Bushmaster [had] a sterling reputation for manufacture at the time so it's unlikely that they changed engineering specs to hamstring the rifle's commercial launch, but until very recently (and maybe still) the rifle has been plagued with issues. More likely the design was flawed from the start, which may be why Magpul sold it in the first place. We've never heard anything about production FMG9s or PDRs either, probably because they aren't tenable.

>>36092995
In your case of family bequeathment, 18 USC § 922 (a) 3 does not apply. HOWEVER

As of 2015 California has a law (CPC 27585) prohibiting you from importing a firearm personally.

Since 2008, you also cannot (FFL) transfer a handgun into California if the sending FFL is not registered with and approved by CADOJ on a per-firearm basis (CPC 12072 (f) (1)) no matter which state the sending FFL is in. You can however transfer a gun to California as long as the sending FFL and the transaction is CADOJ-approved.

The only way around this is to MOVE to California with firearms in-hand and register them within 60 days of arrival (CPC §12072 (f) (2) (A), CPC 27560). Existing residents can't do this.

Further, and this is the catch-all, no handgun may be transferred to you by a CA FFL (as received by any FFL, CA or not) if that handgun is not on the CA approved handgun list (CPC 32000).

tl;dr You're hosed my boy, unless you want to illegally import it and gamble on not getting caught.

Reloaderfags please help

Reloading novice here, been loading .38 and .30-06 okay with factory bullets for a couple of months.

I'm doing it primarily to save money, so I decided to cast lead. Bought a lead mold for .30-06 and some scrap lead. Made bullets that seemed to come out fine. But then when I try to load them in casings they always fuck up somehow.

I've tried adjusting the die in a bunch of different ways, and even throwing some case lube on the bullets, but nothing worked. They either hang out over the brass like the one on the left, come out weirdly square like the one in the middle, or most often pull part way back out like the one on the right.

What the hell am I doing wrong?

20" barrels are retarded, even for 5.56, and especially for 5.56 alternatives like 6.5G, which is supersonic out to 1000+ yds from a 12.5" barrel.
Modern pencil barrels are great; FSBs make very little sense on guns equipped with magnified optics.
Pencil barrels get hot faster than heavy ones, and when stainless gets hot it erodes faster than a chrom-lined or melonited barrel would.

you need to flare your case mouth enough to prevent the lead from shaving off. a standard set of 30-06 dies will not include this normally, so you will need an additional die for this. I use a lyman M die

also for high velocity cast bullets it's important that you're using a fairly hard alloy, I'm not sure what the composition you're using is, but you may have leading issues and poor accuracy as a result of excessively soft alloy

What's a good pistol carrying case for checking my gun onto a flight with my luggage? I need it to be lockable, of course. The case my gun came with isn't adequate, there's no good way to lock it.

>>
>>36102833
>>36100606
just re-read your post, roof flashing lead is pretty much pure lead, and you WILL have issues with any velocities over 1000fps.
you will need to add tin and/or antimony to harden your alloy. do yourself a favor and acquire a casting handbook

I need a small red dot sight for my Carcano sporter, picatinny compatible out of the box is a plus. As much as I love the idea of an RMR I can't afford that.
So, small red dot that's around $100 or under, and that won't shake itself to death in 20 rounds. Bushnell TRS-25 maybe?

Pencil barrels dissipate fuck loads better and HBARs cook the innerds.
>>
>>36103504
Yes, pencil barrels have less mass and therefore cool down (and heat up) faster than heavy barrels, which heat up more slowly, but take longer to cool off once they do.
Subjected to the same firing schedule, a pencil barrel will reach a higher maximum temperature.

I know a pretty good amount about Makarovs. Do own a soviet era one.

Why do you want a soviet era one? The original version? As long as you don't get a .380, you've got the original version.

Just get a circle 10 bulgarian Makarov for like $450 (Holy shit I just realized how expensive guns are now)

Also at least 90% of them are the 8 round 9x18's with fixed sights. Finding one with the different sights or chambered in .380 is rarer than finding a normal one.

So… tomorrow I go out and buy my first firearm. After much thought, I'm going to be rather boring and get a Ruger 10/22 Carbine.

I shot the range-rental, and had a ton of fun, although lets be honest, at about 12 yards, I was hardly even asking the little 10/22 to even work hard, let alone ask myself to do the same. Because I enjoyed the shoot, I decided that this would be my first, but not my last.

But, as this IS my first, I have exactly bugger-all stuff for looking after it and storing. I know that I can, if I want, just shove the damn thing under the bed, although I already know that .22LR is certainly not the choice of home-defense cartridge. But I want to be safe, and I want to keep it clean. I've watched the Ruger tips videos about disassembly, cleaning and assembly, and I'm pretty confident that I'm not such a ham-fisted oaf that I'll mess it up, but I found that the nice wire-core snake the gunsmith was using is remarkably hard to come by.

Others have stated in other threads and online reviews, etc, that one should avoid multi-part, stiff cleaning rods as they can scratch the barrel. But I'd like some input as to the truth behind this. Is it just a load of old bollocks, or is there some truth in it? Should I buy a complete kit, get the kit-parts individually, or maybe a mixture of the two?

Any and all advice is welcome at this point, but I am already committed to the Ruger 10/22 as my first firearm (yeah, poorfag, move on...), so anything apart from 'Get an AR/AK/Minigun/Flamethrower'.

If all you want is ballpark then use the velocity listed on your box of ammo. It's not going to be any sort of precise because you have no way of knowing whether that velocity is even for your barrel length.

I say it's not very useful because if you need precision you aren't going to use internet velocity numbers and if you don't need precision then you have no use for a ballistic calculator. The two concepts are mutually exclusive, know what I mean jellybean?

>>36113247
You don't need any accessories for it beyond a $15 Hoppe's Bore Snake and some form of CLP from Big 5. Don't fall for sales gimmicks and useless crap like that Otis kit.

Collapsible cleaning rods are garbage. Good nylon coated cleaning rods are expensive ($~30-50) and not used that often. If you bought a kit you might use two of ten jags and you'd run out of the shitty patches in the kit quickly, especially if you over-clean like new funowners tend to do.

Just relax, don't worry about cases and kits and accessories. Get a .22 caliber Hoppe's Bore Snake and some solvent. And ammo. That's all you need, forever.

Also don't let noguns turn you off the 10/22, they're great.

what i'm trying to figure out is how far off is a scopes drop compensator is compared to my barrel length.

for example i plan on SBRing an AR15 down to 10.3" or 10.5"
scopes like the elcan drop compensator is calibrated to 16" and ACOG has a 14.5"

the only way i've been able to even think about an solution is to use a ballistics calculator

Yes, the only way to know is to use a ballistic calculator but you MUST use accurate velocity from your specific gun using your specific load shot at your specific location, otherwise the numbers will be nothing but approximate.

Alright, I got a question with a lot of requirements for ya.

I'm in the market for a new combat jacket. Here's what I'd want for it:
> No visible velcro or zippers, only buttons for the true "retro" look
> Non-desert camoflauge pattern similar to, but not the same as, M81 Woodland - that is, semi-organic shapes. This rules out MARPAT and ATACS.
> Functional: It's ikely I'll go camping with it and/or wear it on the daily, so antiques aren't going to cut it here. Also probably a bad idea to recommend a valuble, rare jacket (for example, a 500-product run of Veitnam tigerstripe).
> Small preference for something laid out in the BDU style, but no matter.

I was thinking of Rhodesian Brushstroke or German Flecktarn, but kinda also didn't want something that might scream "evil white supremacist nazi" to the one historically-aware leftist that I know exists somewhere. Also have no idea where to purchase this. I know Fireforce Ventures has a BDU cut Rhodesian pattern jacket, but it's pretty spendy and IDK if it's worth it. Recommend me a store to buy from (preferably online).

Thank you, Burt.

Appreciate the help. I'll probably swing by the local dollar store for a half-dozen cheap toothbrushes for the rare time I might need to actually scrub something, but ordered the bore snake, some CLP and I have a nice empty filing cabinet for the enormous cleaning kit (sic) to go in.
