>>
>>36793721
That artillery group is absolutely Russian. Seriously SAA, Iranian, and Hezzbollah all act like retards grouping up around the gun, whereas those who were blown up have professional standing and ammo storage.

Also what I find amusing is that the MoD yesterday says if Russians died in Syria, that needs proof. Today the US releases videos of the strike and confirms at least 5 dead Russian PMCs. Even if that is all the dead, then it still was the deadliest single incident for Russians in Syria. I cannot wait to see more of the airstrike footage.

>“Why do I say it’s perplexing? I have no idea why they would attack there. The forces were known to be there. Obviously, the Russians knew,” Mattis said.

>The U.S. used a deconflcition telephone line to warn the Russian that U.S. was about to hit the advancing force with airstrikes, and Russia assured there U.S. there were no Russians among the pro-regime forces.
>>
>>36793954
>usa at the day said 12
Not true. Day after US said ~100 dead and 300 injured from the ~500 strong attacking forces. The Us made no distinction between SAA, NDF, ISIS Hunters, or Wagner PMCs.

Also Deir hospitals ran out of blood, and put out a call for people to donate blood immediately which hasn't happened before even during the worst loses from ISIS.

>idiots here inflated it to 644 till yesterday
Hilariously it has been the vatniks inflating the claim. The know that Russians got BTFO, and so in an attempt to bury the embarrassing defeat they are trying to discredit the story via inflating the number of dead. Also this:>>36794023

>>
>>36794101
"The Russians told us they had no forces there initially. I think that's still the case but we don't have full clarity on what the regime forces are doing there," Mattis said over the weekend.
The US and Russian militaries have de-confliction channels to prevent accidental clashes in Syria and alert each other to movements.
"The Russians professed that they were not aware when we called them about that force that had crossed [the Euphrates]. As it came closer they were notified when the firing began," Mattis said.

I'm genuinely confused as to what the conflict is here:
>Are the numbers of dead Russian mercs being contested?
>The legality of the American strike on these forces?
>The nature of the presence of these forces in relation to American positions?
>Whether or not there were any russians there at all?
>Whether or not the russian forces were comprised entirely of mercs?

It seems like there's a lot of discourse going on over what seems to be a pretty straightforward attack. Is this just typical /k/ chauvinism, or are there facts up in the air here that I'm not getting?
>>
>>36795321
1 Numbers are, but people are exaggerating then trying to use that to disprove it happened.

2 The people who are concerned about the legality of the strike are primarily Russian/proRussian/proSAA posters at the moment.

3 Exact position of forces is not exactly known, only town/region.

4 Russians were there, that isn't in question.

5 They were mercs, however Russian special forces and intelligence services use them for deniable operations, and they were comprised of former active duty Russian military forces.
>>
>>36795321
>Are the numbers of dead Russian mercs being contested?
the Russian close to Wagner claimed 200 russian death

the anti Russian claimed 400 to 600 russian death

ISIS Hunters a Syrian PMC said they lost 30 fighter in that night
>>

>This from the racial ideologue

Two strawmen

>You are actively denying evolution
It's called "fitness"

>You think you're defending civilization, when you're attacking western civ itself.

Absolutely delusional, prior to the 60's this sort of view was the norm outside of communists & self-hating leftists.
Hell, you leftists see the harm you do, the same as anyone else, you just deny it because you are personally profitting from your agendas.

How can you embrace marxist views of the "blank slate" and claim to be countering neo-marxists or postmodernists.

>"okay"
>Russian mercs + Pro-Assad forces attack
>US/Kurds respond with overwhelming force
>US/Kurds paste the OpFor
>OpFor calls for cease fire

It's pretty cut and dry, basically someone fucked up, either by not doing recon of the SDF base (and noticing the US presence), incorrectly guessing that we'd fold and give up, they figured they'd beat us by the time our support got there, or they simply mistook us as someone else/underestimated the forces at the camp.

>Where there Russians?
Yes, mercenaries. The exact number is under dispute.

>Was it legal?
On the one hand, there is a legitimate argument that America is illegally in Syria, since we aren't invited. On the other hand, attacking paramilitary forces is pretty much always Kosher in UN terms. Being a mercenary or insurgent/militia is god-awful under international law--you basically have 0 protections unless you are a uniformed soldier. Pretty much all of international humanitarian war-law revolves around you either being a defenseless civilian, medical personnel (who have special protections), or being an official part of a national military. Spies, terrorists, insurgents, mercs, and rebels get turbofucked by it.

Why would anyone even join any kind of infantry nowadays?

It's literally choosing to be in the lowest tier of the war food chain.

Those suckers endured so much hardship with little to no comfort, a shitty meals, no sleep, no sex, no privacy, lots of pain from too many physical training to be "fit" only to be picked like ducks, defenseless as little children, being taken one by one, spending their last minutes on this earth scared shitless while waiting for the inevitable JDAM to maul them.

It didn't matter how much they trained or suffered, if they were elite soldiers or shitters, it all came down to not having air support and being sent to death by their commander.

Infantry is the ultimate blue pill.

The Russians have no reason to be there either. They played a stupid game, they won a stupid prize. The US even had the good courtesy to phone ahead and try and make sure no Russians were going to get hurt but the Jackov in command was just like "There are no Russians in the area tovarich ))))))))))" without realising that American humor doesn't allow for little green men jokes and so the US SOF assumed it was Islamists and opened the eye of sauron on them.

Russians are not oppressed in any way here, they attacked a position they shouldn't have attacked and got royally blown the fuck out for it.

Yeah, it's indeed quite a fucking lot, a bunch of amateurs too for engaging the Kurds without expecting massive retaliation. A marginally decent forward recon would've spotted the US spec ops advisors there, and that would've been reason enough to fuck off back to where they came from. Now these guys are claiming that they've received solid intel from the top claiming the fighters attacking were ISIS, which means they're either bullshitting us or someone thought it would be a good idea to bait them into getting assraped by US airpower.

Syrian Army and Russan PMC get into an engagement with Kurdish militia and U.S. military advisors (Green Berets, or possibly spooks). Advisors call in US air support, AC-130 gets spooky and kills somewhere between a few dozen and 600+ Syrian army and Russian Mercs.

here's the real question? with all the support russia has put into syria. all the different factions and everything else.
why are they just playing by the rules and getting bled out by CIA/gulf states/Israeli material support to foreign jihadis?

why hasnt russia just gone in there en masse. not a full fledged takeover, just enough of a push to give the SAA an actual backbone and wipe up the rest of the map?
no one else is playing by the rules why should they? I say fuck it and double down.
NATO isn't gonna risk shit over Turkeys antics. no one would risk an actual war over turkeys bullshit.

Russia probably doesn't want to give even more credence to concerns that they are a major military power again. As it is, Eastern Europe is increasingly looking to NATO. Russian military adventurism will only fuel that.

As a side note, iirc Russia's Syrian missions have been relatively unpopular domestically, a major presence would necessitate a major increase in expenditure and likely lost-lives, all when re-elections are happening. It is pretty reasonable for Russia to just allow mercenaries to fill whatever gaps Assad has, or do things the Russian military proper doesn't want to be seen doing.

As far as the hotline, well I think it's pretty established that the hotline exists. As for whether it was used or not, hard to say, but if we take the US/Kurd side at face value (if you accept it), then they noticed the build-up for a while (which is reasonable, given its size). I find it hard to believe the US wouldn't have called their Kremlin counterparts to make sure that the large armored element WASN'T Regime or Russian affiliated during the buildup to the battle. In fact, I almost think it is MORE likely that the Russian/Syrian force just utterly failed to do proper recon (which I think is unlikely, purely because they've theoretically been at war all these years and lived thus far, and recon is too critical a part of war to have survived this long without being good at it).

>why are they just playing by the rules?
Frankly Assad has done pretty well, all things considered. They have a ready-made pro-Russian regime, all they have to do is keep it existing, and Iran is already doing some paramilitary work too, so it's not like Russia is really crunched to make things work. They also don't want to risk much conflict with the US, for obvious reasons (like what just happened). This is one of those situations where both the US and Russia are equally content with the status quo, since it keeps both sides comfortably at arms length. Let proxies duke it out.

Alright, time to elevate this little teenage semen shooting fest with some actual opinions formulated by men of distinction and experience. I refer to my favorite blog run by ex-DIA Middle East analyst and Green Beret:

http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2018/02/to-war-to-war-this-countrys-going-to-war-ttg.html#comments

Some salient points. Moscow appears unaware of the moves towards the Conoco Gas plant.

>I’m afraid the recent “defensive attack” by US attack helicopters and artillery on Syrian tribesmen loyal to Damascus is not just a one-off fluke. It is a feature of the current US policy in Syria that will most likely result in another full blown war in the region… one that will put the US on a track to war with Russia.

>1. Russia's UN Ambassador Nebenzya will raise the issue at the upcoming UN Security Council closed-door briefing on the humanitarian situation in Syria.
>2. Moscow is now conducting a thorough investigation of the incident, Russia’s MFA asks "How could a decision to open a massive fire to defeat the Syrian militiamen be made in such a short period of time [between SDF attacks and time US aviation came to the field]?”
>3. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Zakharova: "US military presence in Syria presents a serious challenge to the peace process and thwarts the protection of the country's territorial integrity."
>4. Russia’s MFA spox Zakharova: "A 55-kilometer zone unilaterally created by US around mil base near al-Tanf used by scattered units of Daesh terrorists [who] have opportunity to hide from gov forces in area as well as regroup and prepare for new raids in the Syrian deserts" (@MSuchkov_ALM)

Resume schoolyard shitposting.
>>
>>36799278
they shoot down a US jet and you can expect pretty much all Anti-air systems in the general vicinity of our forces to get ctrl+alt+delet from the theater, and if Assad is lucky we stop there.

Remember, even if we can't take it out directly on Russia, we can ALWAYS bomb Assad.
>>
>>36799350

and if that happens i'd expect Syria's IADS to go dark courtesy of B-2, F-35, F-22, and conventional strikes the next day. wouldn't be surprised if the S-400s got hit "accidentally" too.
>>
Why does the US support ISIS?
>>
>>36799360
>How could a decision to open a massive fire... be made in such a short period?

Because they were SOF and thus have high priority for Air Assets, which we can afford to have run pretty much 24/7. It's not like we don't have assets in Syrian air space at this exact moment, and it's not like the US isn't known for extremely rapid deployment of said air assets. Plenty of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan can testify that we can get air assets on-site pretty quickly during a fight. Maybe not instantly, but quickly, especially if it is a priority mission (like the SDF defense).

The rest I can see and make very cogent points (especially 3 from an international law perspective), but #2 is pretty easily explained as "the USA has All the Things(tm) and doesn't mind throwing them around, and DoD checks don't bounce".
>>
>>36799414

why should the US let anyone shoot at US forces?
>>

Not gonna happen, the russians right now are lowkey defcon 1 over there in anticipation for further action or reconciliation of the matter, you can bet your ass they're sending emergency contingents and equipment to the region and minimizing the effectiveness of us measures and countermeasures against their personel and equipment. Since this event is unprecendented, there's a lot of uncharted territory that needs to be mapped but that'll take at least a week, in the meanwhile though all you can do is sit back and enjoy the shitshow.

If Russia actually determines this to be a deliberate and planned action to murder Syrian-aligned militiamen, there are steps they can undertake to seriously hurt the US, like using a stealthy cruise missile launched from thousands of miles to destroy one of the numerous V-22 Osprey FOBs and their support staff and SOF personnel stationed there with a cruise missile, or a short range ballistic missile fired from ISIS territory or no-man's land.

Everyone remembers what a crappy 1950s-era SCUD missile can do to a sleeping garrison:

>>36799414
there is actually a decent reason to justify letting ISIS exist as is, at the moment anyway. Consider this, until just recently, ISIS was a somewhat unifying factor. The Russians, Syrians, US, Kurds, Turkey, and UN all agreed "fuck ISIS". Sure, why not? They are pretty much modern Orcs.

But now ISIS is pretty much hosed compared to their early meteoric rise. Their territory is a fraction of what it was. They lost momentum. So now what? Those militias that fought ISIS, that big swath of ISIS-territory that kept Kurds far from Assad, that kept US far away from Russia... it's gone now. that buffer of islamic extremism is gone. Thats why things like this are going to happen now, because the buffer is getting thinner and thinner, and now the big proxy militaries and militias, who have spent the last few years fighting ISIS and getting outside support, now have to start facing each other. And this will happen more and more.

Phase 1 of the war was Assad's regime splintering into the militias, complete with early crackdowns and desertion, ultimately leaving it vulnerable to radical groups and factionalism.

Phase 2 was the age of militias, with ISIS taking center stage in bloody HD LiveLeak footage. Assad survived phase 1, and got bolstered by Russia. Kurds got a bit too big and attracted the attention of Turkey, ISIS managed to get an actual temporary """state""" even, and so on. Everyone learned how to work around each other to prevent "accidents".

Phase 3 (now) is the age of proxies, where those proxies we all funded to "fight ISIS" or Assad are now smacking into each other, and everyone has personnel there. This is where the weapons are turned from ISIS towards each other as everyone tries to claim a bit of Syria.

The reality is, ISIS kept everyone nice to each other, if only for platitudes and the sake of the news camera. Now they're gone.

>>
>>36799483
You think we would lose an entire Carrier wing when the US has been doing successful SEAD/DEAD missions since Vietnam, and quite likely would just chuck Cruise Missiles at those batteries until they were toast? Are you forgetting when we Cruise-missiled an entire Syrian air base and they didn't shoot any down, or do anything to retaliate?
>>
>>36799521
So... the russian mercs moved in on, what you're describing, as a literal refugee camp, threw arty at it, then were surprised when the USAF lit them up?
>>
>>36799521
>exactly that. i've been to an tanf. there's nothing but bedouins and a giant refugee camp.

Then why does the US maintain a no-fly zone there and bomb any Syrian forces that approach?

Seems more like they're either trying to maintain a corridor to keep funneling ISIS into Syria from Iraq and SA, or there is a base there.

And the bombing of the Syrian allies didn't take place near Al Tanf, but much closer to Deir, just across the Euphrates, where the Conoco Phillips gas plant is. Check your facts.

Al Tanf is geographically separated.
>>
>>36799581

I heard there were millions of IAF strikes. Stop posting non-sense you Vatnik shill.
>>
>>36799568
I'm sorry, I've had arguments over this all fucking day and had an autism moment.

I think, if they truly are mercenaries, the best thing for everyone is to just stay calm and accept it. Like it or not, if the rumors and posts shown on /k/ are true, it legitimately seems like the Russian mercs were just volunteers/paid cannon fodder who had the misfortune of attacking a US/SDF post, and ate it. We don't want an outright war with Russia, and they don't want one with US. So it's everyones best interest to shrug, say "shit sucks, they were mercs, this happens to mercs" and call it a day. There is nothing to gain by making a bigger deal of it, or shooting down jets in some dick-waving contest.

Are we forgetting that US DoD called the Syrians and Russians in advance and gave them a heads up?

Trump acted on this to get the ZOG off his back, after the staged chemical attack. The Zionists were barking for blood and regime change, more aggressively than usual. For at least a few days after the attack, all of Israel's agents and proxies came forward with public praise for Trump, like Lindsay Graham, Bill Kristol etc.

So predictable.
>>
>>36799649
then what exactly is the purpose of mentioning the time spent at TANF? Are you saying that the DEZ wasn't a SOF/Kurd outpost, and thus wouldn't have priority access to air assets? Or did I misinterpret your previous response?

lol were ahve you been? maybe hundred upon hundreds is a bit of an exaggeration but the IAF have been pretty consistently targeting Iranian, hezbollah and some syrian targets in Syria, im pointing out the stupidity of Vatniks in thinking that Syria could stop the US airforce despite only taking down IAF plane after years of IAF strikes

>>36799773
It will, unfortunately, likely be a scenario where US says one thing (and provides their evidence) and Russia says another (and provides their evidence), and everyone just picks a side. However, I have trouble believing the US would have noticed a buildup of force the size of the one described WITHOUT contacting Russia/Syrian forces and inquiring about it, since that would be immensely alarming to any base. You don't just park your tanks and artillery near someone's yard without them making a few neighborly phone calls. Further, even if the US didn't call, that doesn't justify the Syrian/Russian mercs attacking them (if that is what happened).

> As it came closer they were notified when the firing began.

I know he means they called them again, but I just love the idea of Mattis treating the gunfire as "notification".

Well made post, sadly it will be wasted on him, at least the silent readers got somethint out of it.
>>
This incident proves that Russian radars are useless because if they had detected US aircraft inbound they would have warned their guys to pull back.
>>
>>36797929

The US needs to get out of Crimea/Ukraine.

Oh wait.

>200 Russian mercenary in Dier Ezzor Syria

Should have killed even more. Russian PMCs are Soviet Conscript-Tier. The more of those subhumans you kill the better the world is off.
>>
>>36797687
the number is between what the pentagon said and what russia said 4 to 12 the rest is just bullshit even mattis confirmed that the numbers are total bullshit
>>
I have insider information that it was actually 800++, 300+ Russians and 400++ Syrians. And it was deliberate, there's no records of Americans contacting the Russians, they only made it up by photoshop.
>>
>>36798106
sure they are cause you know you already seen them while the rest of the world didnt

typical of /k/

what do you think happens when boy meets bomb?

200 meats on the ground and only 8 people confirmed killed?

yeah the bullshit-o-meter is off the roof
but then again this is the word of an msm against mattis and russia
>>
>>36800959

official DOD estimate is "100+"

8 confirmed only because a red smear is practically indistinguishable from another red smear so you don't know if it's 1 or 10 people.

now if they caught a piece of shrapnel to the femoral artery and bled out in the back of a truck, it's easy to confirm their death. but for people who got vaporized, you don't know if they got lost, went MIA, are still there but badly hurt and you can't tell who they are, just plain ran away, or got vaporized.

and if you know where to look, it's on SIPR.

>official dod

mattis literally said that there were no russians on the ground
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/reports-russian-contractors-killed-by-us-strike-in-syria/2018/02/13/0b7bc368-10da-11e8-a68c-e9374188170e_story.html?utm_term=.34e3f29a84b2

do you know who mattis is?
>>
>>36801002

no, he said "Russian MOD told us there's no Russians on the ground" and "we killed 100+ people there".

so there are 4 options:
1. US DOD lied.
2. Russian MOD is unaware (either shoddy battle tracking or somebody did something behind their backs)
3. Russian MOD lied
4. Russian MOD is telling the truth

i think option 2 is the most believable given the fact that they're deniable contractors.
for 1., the lie would go the other way (as in, "this didn't happen), 3. is plausible but runs risk of a shitstorm, and 4. seems to be objectively false

so there weren't any Russian troops, just Wagner PMCs.
>>
>>36801036
stop projecting your idiocy dude

don’t have any reporting that some non-Russian Federation soldiers, but Russian contractors were among the casualties,” Mattis told reporters traveling with him in Europe. “I can’t give you anything on that. We have not received that word at Central Command or the Pentagon.”

no one cares about your bullshit especially when you dont have a single source
>>
>>36801042

you're not tracking the story.

the US esitmates it killed 100+ people that night. they're not 100% sure who exactly they were (ISIS Hunters vs SAA vs Wagner)

confirming a death takes a corpse. until then you can only say "they were here when we started and they're not here now." maybe they're not here now because they're dead and they're a smear. maybe they ran away. maybe they're in the hospital in a coma and so badly mangled nobody knows who they are.

the Russians say none of the killed were MOD soldiers, and are investigating PMC rumors.

Russian social media claims up to 200 killed

ISIS Hunters claims about 25

i don't know what conspiracy angle you're pushing here.

a whole bunch of people attacked a US position and got BTFO. the body count doesn't matter.
>>
>>36801036
give it a rest
I think >>36801042 is just fucking with you for cheap (yous)
>>
>>36801078
oh i followed the story since it was up to 12

but somehow it reached to 644 2 days ago
and now is back to 200-100
now you say usa said 100 while literally the only word from any official USA official aka mattis doesnt even come CLOSE to that
no dod no pentagon no nothing else literally the only person that talked is mattis yet somehow you are trying to convince everyone that its not true and what you know about it is

so there are only 2 possible explanations here
a) you are right and pentago is wrong therefore you should work for the dod and mattis should go down the pit
b)mattis that has all the information available doesnt even state something above 12 people dead clearly states that there are no russians among the dead yet somehow YOU are stating that he is wrong and your version of story based on the cnn and nbc is right

the fact that you spin their totally made up numbers as "us officials" is enough tho

or maybe i actually know what the US knows on JWICS about origin and numbers.

no fucking way i'd tell you that though.

all i will say is that tanks burn real good when you hit them with a bomb.

Care enough to have two Fallujah Ops.

We won't see Russia bat an eye over this just in the future any non US ally will think twice before moving against any US backed positions least the FIST OF GOD SHALL UNLEASH SUCH TERRIBLE VENGEANCE THAT GENERATIONS YET UNBORN WILL CRY OUT IN ANGUISH then they will know that these desert sands belong to the USA.

So was judging people based on skull shape, backhanding your wife for whatever you felt like and letting your kids stand up in the back seat while you drive around ,beer in hand. But hey, keep leaving out all the environments that produce the people you actually dislike while casting that blanket over entire races of people
