Asked in the later part of the last thread but got no reply. Are all super veprs supposed to have the mag be able to drop out free when you hit the release? I was under the impression that I'd have a spring pop the mag out for me, but the one I just got has me need to actually pull the mags out by hand.
>>
>>36795019
Open it up and take a look. Could be a new/tight fitting mag, cosmoline or your model year predates that feature.

Quality control issues can lead to lots of DOA's
Some rifles are over gassed and can mushroom the bolt
They're overpriced for their quality

>>
>>36795054
I'm out of town at the moment so this generic pic of the magwell is the best I've got, but would you have any idea when that feature was added? According to the paperwork I got with mine, it was manufactured on April 2012. It's the type with the fluted barrel and top scope rail.
>>
>>36795248
Using this vid as a reference it should been in 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbz4J4vKYRc
>>
Anyone see an AK9/AK12 izhmash railed handguard for sale anywhere? There was a listing on akfiles last week but it looks like that guy is sold out.
Also, have you guys tried converting 5.45 Bakelite mags to work with 5.56? I see good things online with replacing/modifying the follower, but haven't tried myself. Curious what experience you kids have had.
>>
>>36795093
Because 100% ageism made AKs are made by people who don't care, or don't know what they are doing. Using cast front trunnions, bolts, and bolt carriers which crumble with regular standard use. A parts kit gun (built by well reputable people) with us or combloc barrel with nitriding or chrome lining will be 1000% better. Or if you want 100% new, non American AK get an arsenal or a wasr or sar. Or paps if you like Yugoslav stuff.

$900 shipped Krink Bulgy kit with bulgy chrome barrel.
>>
>>36795378
Papers say my Vepr was shipped from the factory in early May of 2012, which lines up perfectly with the video. FIME imported mine and it seems they started importing Veprs in January 2012.

I would say that's a perfect match and that I've probably got something screwy with my gun, but the rifle in the video has a side rail while mine does not. don't think they specified who was doing the importing either, but I'm guessing it was FIME. There's not too much about the gun online before 2012, so I haven't seen anything to suggest that the drop-free mag was only a recent addition to the gun. I

On an unrelated note, I find it pretty hilarious that for once, I'm buying a gun for less than it would have been if I'd bought it 10 years sooner.
>>

very nice early import. Is the importer Kalashnikov USA, by chance?
>>
>>36795970
Or maybe you're looking for a feature that might only be on the .308 super vepr.
Any sources you've come across say or show that it's on all super veprs?

>>
>>36796127
Ok. Iirc the crosshatching on the right side covers up the original Kalashnikov USA import markings on some of them. I think EAA bought some of KUSA's stock at some point.
Later RAA, the next importer after EAA, did the same crosshatching on the right rear of the receivers to cover EAA's markings.

So I'm going to register SBR a Draco.
Is there anything I get back when the Form One clears? Should I carry it with me in case a rangemaster or a cop asks if I have a tax stamp? (I say cop because theres lots of dumping at the shooting pits in my area and they sometimes drive through.)
In Washington if it matters.
>>
>>36796323
AFAIK, the stamp needs to stay with the rifle at all times
>>
>>36796323
Yes. Scan it and carry a copy in the case with the gun. Federally you don't have to show the stamp to anyone but an ATF agent, but WA has its own SBR laws that require proof you registered it.

Finding concrete information on the Super Vepr is hard enough, finding stuff on the Super Vepr in .223 is even worse. Trying to find stuff guns like the Mle 1935A is a lot easier than this. I haven't found anything so far on differences between the Super Vepr in 223 and 308. I've heard the pioneer in .223 has the ambi release without the drop-free mag, but that's the pioneer and I think it has differences beyond the stock too. I might have to start hunting down and asking someone who owns one.

They are fine, people will whine about it not having muh cumblawk barrel. It's a barrel(and with some US barrels they would be right in doing so like with the red butter soft barrels), if you can afford to shoot it out, you can afford to replace it. If possible, find out who made the barrel for it, if not, don't sweat it. Get it, shoot it, enjoy, re-barrel it with whatever you want if you do indeed "shoot it out".

Mystery solved. I can't confirm if the issue is that my gun was made too early or if the .223 versions don't have it, but mine straight up lacks the pin that's supposed to push the mag out (as well as all the minor tweaks that adding such a pin would include). It's a bit of a bummer and I'd almost rather have a standard AK mag release now. The pin in question that my vepr lacks is in this pic

They aren’t - what most people refer to on here as “American made” is in actuality a parts kit that is professionally built and sold. For instance the RAS. This is an important distinction, because I have a genuine American made PSA Ak47 GB2 and it shoots amazing and has great trunnions, bolt quality, rivets are perfect and fit and finish is perfect. A lot of people don’t like them because they are
>a. some hillbilly built a PSA parts kit in a garage and it sucks for some reason
Mine was made by PSA
>b. It’s not combloc so people don’t like that.
I don’t care if it was made in Europe or not.

Just food for thought but don’t think that “American made sucks!!” Because of some buyers guide. Look at what other sources are saying.
>>
>>36803108
Lmao, check out the AK operators union video of the PSAK gen2
It still sucks, just sucks less
>>
>>36803161
Mine is billet. It is machined- I know because I can see the mill tooling marks. They have transitioned theirs To machining.

Also I take everything that Ak op union does with a HUGE grain of salt. They run their shit over with vehicles, throw them around and do pull-ups off of the magazine. Yes the AK is very robust and handles a lot of shit but their literal goal is to treat their guns like shit. If you go off of what they do with the NPAP, you would think those are tremendous pieces of weak metal shit. I don’t intend to have my AK run over so I think my gun will last a good while.

M8, you realize the "parts kit" they sell just means you have to install the trigger and furniture right? Calling them parts kits is laughable and all the important bits, like the headspace on mine, is set at the factory just like every other POS they produce.
>>
>>36803237
Don’t have an NPap even though i almost bought the underfolder. That thing is sexy. I really like the M70 and think the NPap is fine for what 99.9% of American Ak users do with theirs. Just change the spring to the aftermarket stronger one out there.

It doesn't matter if your trunnion is cast, forged, or extruded (billet). All processes require finish machining for a part like this. The fact that yours was finish machined means literally nothing because every forged or billet part is also finish machined.

Nothing will make you hate the things you enjoy more than other people who also enjoy them. It's pretty much why I fucking hate every single person into cars while enjoying dicking around with them myself.

And yes, the endless brand circle jerk of ARs was a pretty quick turn off. I don't really see that in the AK community other than hating American made products, and with good reason since they cost just as much or more than some imports of superior quality.

Was considering this route for a while but I don't own any AR and it does look like much less of a hassle to get. Doesn't hold as much of an appeal to me as an AK but I already got a top of the line AK.

Saw the gun store employee go back and look up the market of the gun and, kinda understandably says, "So you wanna trade in a used gun for a new gun. What is your bottom dollar?" he says. I felt my face turn red and said "I'm not working with those terms.". I wanted to say the line, "I know what I got etc etc." but /k/ taught me too much to utter those words in that situation. Guess I'll just let the rifle sit in the back as well as the ammo and check out ARs for the first time. Just wish they were more appealing to me.

To think it was finally time to buy some delicious milsurp like a Garand. fuck

The fingernail clipping look is where the name "half moon" comes from

The modern method of manufacture looks similar externally but the difference is that these are made out of one piece of steel

The modern method of producing them involves pressing a washer into place

These are also distinct in that the front cap where the bayo ring goes is shorter

The type immediately following this type is the zig-zag brake, which were also one piece, but the cuts were made with like a propylene cutter or something

This version of muzzle brake is commonly seen on rifles that also have the early style 45 degree angled gas block. Bulgaria produced zig zag brakes but Russia is the only country to produce a brake like this one.
>>
>>36793853
It may not be pretty, but that thing has a lot of nifty improvements over your typical AKM.

>that rear sling loop thing
>that weird m1 Garand charging handle
>top cover that probably holds zero
>That Valmet like receiver cut
>collapsing cleaning rod
>better front sight adjustment

Only thing I don't like is the finger grooves.

I'm a little confused by the new selector though. It looks like it has only two positions, but clearly has markings for safe, semi, two round burst?, and auto.

Anyone know if these have a last round bolt hold open?

Why are there so many of you traitor faggots switching to 5,56? 5,45 can be had for pretty much the same price as steel-cased 5,56 and is still way cheaper than brass 5,56. I've never once seen 5,45 sold out and unable to be found. Even Academy sells that Monarch shit if you're one of those retards who refuses to buy online. If you honestly think we're going to see a 100% embargo on Russian Federation, you're fucking retarded. Come back to the one true caliber, niggers.

I never moved away from 7.62x39

What was their reasoning for making the muzzle brake so fucking HUGE
>>
>>36811141
5.45 future looks kind of bleak right now. GT is sold out with sg ammo having no plans to restock. with guns, you either buy a kit build of questionable quality or pay a premium for an arsenal.
im not moving away but im certainly not shooting my slr104 a lot right now.

hearing is overrated

Probably to make the two round burst more controllable, seeing that was what the whole an-94 thing was about.

I was never invested in 5.45, there was no switch
>>
>>36811576
I do have a couple kits in 5.45 I'm building though, I just haven’t gotten around to finishing them
>>
>>36811341
desu there is enough of a market for 5.45 that importers will find a way. The money is there they just have to take it. No confirmed sanctions on it yet unless congress decides to overule trumps veto on the new sanctions.
>>
>>36811295
source?
>>
>>36812003
i also agree that the 5.45 market is big enough to invest in.
however, currently the 5.45 market kind of feels like we're all "living paycheck to paycheck", so to speak. all it takes is one hiccup and we're in trouble. the time between trouble and comfortable will be a rocky one, unless someone steps up now.
but thats just my take on things, hopefully everyone that likes 5.45 has/is stocking up. having 10k rounds will atleast insulate you from drastic market changes.
>>
>>36811341
look at the akou thread, it would appear the new sanctions wouldnt affect vympel (gt facility) just the facility that produces tulammo. Wolf would also be fine and as shitty as ras ammo is it is made in Ukraine which as far as the us is concerned is not Russia. SG may not be looking at importing more GT 5.45 at the moment but they will eventually if they have the demand for it, or at least continue importing other 5.45
>>
>>36812075
Right, I feel that because there is less demand for it there will be less import so it could be harder to get than 7.62x39 but I dont think we will be sanctioned out of ammo completely, we may experience a slight price increase due to possible decrease in imports or length of time between shipments but from what I can tell there are enough slr104s and other 5.45 aks around to keep the ammo coming in at a decent price and for me at least my 5.45 build is not my only semi auto intermediate caliber rifle so in terms of actual defense and protection it really isnt needed. It is more because I like aks and wanted to do a parts kit build. I already have a WASR so a 74 was the way to go.

Not since the factory was destroyed.
>>
>>36812279
I'm guessing you're making some reference to Lugansk? It wasn't "destroyed", and they've been making ammo again since '16
