Ironically from what I’ve heard people who own modern day Norinco’s in countries where they are not banned say their quality has gone down signifigantly since the 80’s. I guess because they’re not producing them for the military or US market anymore
>>
>>37569354
I say yes but it's typically the most unpopular of opinions
>>
Where is that deployed Finnanon that was shitting over the Valmet? He was saying how stamped recievers arent worth shit
>>
>>37569474
Well keep in mind since the 80s their biggest buyers have been african warlords. Quality is nowhere on the list of demands for either of them, just quantity and price.
But when you have another modern country buying them like hotcakes you have a little more incentive to make a decent rifle
>>
>>37569487

I've got an old dude local to me trying to trade me some AK parts. I'm going over to meet later this afternoon to check em out but wondering if anyone had a clue as to what he has.

He told me he has a mak 90 "complete receiver" among other misc parts. He says he bought a case of them in '94 and this is what remains.

Does anyone know anything about these supposed cases of receivers? By "complete" do these have trunnions installed and/or a populated barrel?

The old bastard doesn't have a camera so I can't get pics and he doesn't seem to know what he's got exactly.

Enjoy finding original mags. Galil mags can be modified. The M71 is super smooth to shoot and has these odd 3-dot sights that kind of resemble Galil night sights. I like them over a regular set of AK sights.

The guard around the lens is pretty thick, it should be fine unless you ram something directly into the lens like a retard. But that would mess up any optic. There’s also an air gap between the lens and guard so none of the shock to the guard would be delivered to the glass

Hello /akg/.

After getting some extra cash back from Uncle Sam, I have purchased my first firearm. Ever. Prior to this I've only shot for the military and borrowing friends' guns on range day. I bought this locally for $300 which felt right for it's age (1994 I think?). It's a 10/63, which I know very little about aside from it's Romanian and people seem to like those. I got to shoot it a bit before buying and the groups were consistent (just terrible because I'm not used to shooting 7.62). Nothing felt too weird but if it helps I have some pictures of the interior I can post as well.

I really like the bulky pistol grip. I do not like the rest of the furniture. I know there's plenty of stuff out there but I would always appreciate advice on how to ditch this cheap-feeling polymer. Not looking to throw a bunch of rails and other stuff on there, just something comfortable. This rifle is definitely well-used and I'm viewing it more as a gateway drug than anything else.

Aside from that, this thing is a blast to shoot. Recoil is way more manageable than I expected and it's surprisingly kind to my right-hand/left-eye dominance issue.

If the park is an issue, just go to Home Depot and buy a can of rust oleum glossy black indoor/outdoor paint. I hung my rifle up by a piece of twine wrapped around the front site post and hung it from the rafters in My garage. I just did several layers very lightly according to the instructions on the can, it turned out great. That was over a year ago, and even mag dumping didn’t burn the paint off

Pic related.

While we are on the topic, what would be the least rare AK 74 magazine to cut a window into? Primarily I have Tula plums, Tula bakes, an Izzy bake, a Tula true black and (10) black. I think a Bakelite would look cool. Should I just take the most beat up one and do it?

Out of 10, 4 worked, the other 6 have dents so Im just going to figure out exactly where I want my window in those ones before I do it to an actually expensive mag.

Well good luck trying to find a matching stock, in that case. You could do Balkan wood with an Ace triangle folder.. IMHO that would look pretty good if you had it refinished so all of the metal matched. (The Ace finish is much darker than the rifle's)

The top of the charging handle has “taylor swift” written on the outside, and “band aids don’t fix bullet holes” along the top of the inside. I plan on changing it though and getting rid of Taylor swift on the outside. The goal is to have a super cool looking little AR that’s totally incognito until you charge it.

That flash is gone SO fast that it really doesn't effect anything. I don't even see it often times in bright daylight, but the cameras don't ever miss it.

I used to have an M92 with a folding stock and a pinned fake suppressor. It had a HUGE muzzle flash, and the fake can directed it mostly straight forward. It was seriously a two foot flame. It was also very quick, but even in the daylight it would temporarily reduce your vision. I had some cool video screenshots of the flash on my old phone. First time I shot it was at dusk; I let my buddy shoot it and immediately I said “HOLY SHIT” because of how huge the flame was. Super cool. Regret selling it

The buyers guide is still relevant enough for you to make a decent purchase with minimal additional research (for example, like this- asking around). For some reason there's been more-than-normal bitching about it the past couple of days.
New WASRs are gtg (post 2010) and are your best option for a budget AK, assuming you want something cheap. After that would be a PAP.

>>
>>37587687
Not him but I've personally never got the gimmick since the rifle doesn't inherently hold it open, meaning you'll have to rack it anyways. Some people claim that they use the hold open as a signal for a mag change, as it sounds and feels different, but I've been using them for some time as throw-aways and hardly ever notice it. >but I've been using them for some time as throw-aways and hardly ever notice it
Then you must be very devoid of senses, because I think it's completely obvious when it triggers.
I can't remember ever trying to pull the trigger again on an empty mag because I know I'm empty the instant the last round goes down the pipe.
