Opening business hours are 0800, then you have 1 hour lunch and 1 hour training/inventory hour.

Its even better when you work in a staff office or one with a civilian OIC. Shit half the time fridays were halfdays because higherups wanted to golf, or the day was slow. Lmao best one was my OIC had every thursday the office closed for training days so she could play golf on discount with the BN commander. I had an S1 and S4 combined office who tried some real shady shit and did the do you have an appointment excuse when they didnt feel like working.
>>

Yeah staff units are the best. I do like, 10 hours of actual work all month and I don't even have a real first line supervisor. I have no idea wtf I'm supposed to even be doing outside of producing a few slides for a monthly slidedeck. it's great. There's a civilian contractor who doesn't have a working computer for the last 3 months, who doesn't have a real job anyways so he just sits around and cracks jokes all day and shows me LiveLeak videos on his phone.

Yah staff is the best.

>>
>>38225118
I'm wrong, actually. You get to be an 11B or 11C if you fail at getting through the 11X pipeline. So, infantryman.

YOu get the shitty MOS needs of the Army deal if you fail a normal MOS school. Like if you were to actually suck badly enough to fail out of Infantry OUST but not failed enough to get kicked out of the army. Or you picked some crypto-lingust job and fail the academic tests. Then you get to be a cook.
>>
>>38225216
>You get to be an 11B or 11C if you fail at getting through the 11X pipeline. So, infantryman.

Can you pick between B & C?

Thats not so bad, if you wanna do high speed shit the best shot is ranger or 18x, right?

11B can still keep you on that track
>>
>>38225249
You don't get to choose between B and C, but you'll still be on track for Ranger if you want to do that. You'll have Airborne School. 18X isn't actually about getting new SF dudes, it's a recruiting tool for airborne infantry. Just make sure you're cool with that before you go try and do it.
>>
>>38225249
It's counter-intuitive but your odds might be higher if you picked some lame-ass MOS and then put in a special forces packet.

As a combat arms or infantryman guy your unit will monopolize 100% of your time and offer you basically nothing in return but back to back field problems and daily barracks rooms inspections at 5am. It's highly regimented and that'll limit your ability to pursue ambitions like packet school shit.
>>
>>38220915
according to my asvab print out i'm qualified for 35L but when i research the MOS it says its not an entry level specialty.. any thoughts?

>>
>>38224928
35M

>>38225003
They are also good if you wanna get in on some random trainings. Like when i was working S2 they sent my ass to physical security school. Its essentially a class on how to build a base. Was pretty cool imo.
>>
>>38225096
No. Group means sf group, but you can be actual sf or support staff. I was in support.
>>
>>38225429
Yeah they don't care what your job is. They look at PT score, weapons score, GT score, NCOERs, conduct record, things like that. Special forces isn't traditional soldiering and the quality of training they recieve is some absurd multitude higher than what you'd do as a conventional infantryman anyways. Like, you might only expend ~120 rounds year in training as an infantryman and that's like 1/10th of what an ODA guy would use in 1 day in a week long training seminar.

SO yeah, it's fairly easy to reclass after the first term of enlistment. You only generally get to do this only once in your career though.
>>
>>38225214
11b. He was a lrc ranger or whatever the fuck its called now.
>>
>>38225216
>>38225249
>>38225300
Fyi if you go 18x and fail you become needs of army. Yes you hold the mos qualification of 11b/c, but they arent required to keep you as that and may put you as needs. Then that 11b/c becomes your secondary mos, and whatever they give you like 88m will be your primary mos.
>>
>>38225586
I've been looking at how our 350F friend says to go 35F, and request RASP in AIT if you want to go Ranger, but can you reclass to a door kicking MOS if you make it through RASP?

I'm not thinking im gonna "outsmart" the army here
>>
>>38225586

>>
>>38225640
>Then that 11b/c becomes your secondary mos, and whatever they give you like 88m will be your primary mos.

Is there any way to avoid that? failing 18x and just remaining 11b does not sound like having your cake and eating it too, just a bummer if youre shooting for 18x
>>
>>38225497
Airborne is your bonus.

Its not that bad of a deal, but how is your PT? If youre not in the 70s right now and cant do 15 pull ups, you gotta get your ass squared because airborne is gonna knock you on your ass. Fortunately, you are gonna be doing DLI for a year or 2 first then airborne, so you got plenty of time to get ready.

Dont worry about the cash bonus, because if you would of had one plus airborne that would have been a 5-6 year contract.
>>
>>38225667
For live ammo yeah. You qualify with your rifle twice a year. You get 20 rounds to zero your weapon and 40 rounds to qualify. If you're shit, you get another 40 rounds to attempt to qualify with.
>>
>>38225652
350F here, by the time you get to regiment you will be almost 2 years in, and then you just gotta be there for another year to year and a half before you can reclass and reenlist since you need to pretty much be in your final year to start stuff.

But if youre goal is just regiment and door kicking, just get an 11x op40. I recommend the 35F to regiment route because its good for those who dont know what they wanna do but dont wanna get stuck in a shitty job until they can reclass or quit, it has the shortest mos time in case you somehow fuck up all the extra shit you wanted to do, and its a for sure way to get in if you cant get an op40 because of waivers or they just arent there and you need to leave fast.
>>
>>38225720
No way to avoid it other than not failing lmao. Needs of army is needs of army, and army needs some carpenters sometimes.

But the key thing is once you do get reclassed into something else, immediately go to S1 human resources and make sure they put that 11b/c qualification on your record, because they WONT unless you tell them to. Ive met only one other person in real life who knew anything about secondary mos. Once you get it tacked on as your secondary, you can bother your unit coordinator until there is an open slot for an 11b/c in your unit for your rank, to switch your secondary to primary. Thats some insider hacks FYI. Very few people know you can do this. I only know about it because I switched from 35N to 35F doing this.
>>
>>38225875
>No way to avoid it other than not failing lmao. Needs of army is needs of army, and army needs some carpenters sometimes.

Yeah im not fantasizing about having my cake and eating it too, I just think it's a good idea to consider all sorts of contingencies

If you score well enough on the ASVAB can you avoid scrubbing toilets, or is that just the risk you take by signing that particular contract?
>>
>>38225823
>I recommend the 35F to regiment route because its good for those who dont know what they wanna do but dont wanna get stuck in a shitty job until they can reclass or quit

Okay that clears it up
>>
Should I go 15W or 35M opt 40/Rasp and then try to get 18X later or should I just go 18X and "never quit"? I don't want to risk getting thrown to the needs of big Army but I hear it's hard to reclass or get in 18X shape once you're in
>>
>>38225966
It doesnt matter. You can have a 99 and a 150 gt, and they can still put your ass as cook. Back when I was at DLI, all my peers who failed language school on 5-6 year contracts with 40k bonuses lost them and were reclassed to cook, carpenter, 91f, 88m, 68w, 11b, with zero chance to reclass until they hit their 5 or 6 year mark. I got fucking lucky and was put in 35N and kept my bonus because that the time 35W was the equivalent of 11x for 35N and 35P(back then it was 98 series for intel but I use 35 to make it make more sense for you young pups).
>>
>>38225978
35M op40, if you can even get an op40 for it. Some other anon got a 35N op40, which is the first ive ever heard in the 13 years ive been in. But worst case go on a 35M, and apply for rasp and compete for a slot at AIT. I say compete because majority of 35M are highspeed pt studs ready to jason bourne it up.

I keep thinking about this, because there are guys who pass selection every single round.

Ya, thats why I always advocate against going to language school because it can make or break your career, either as a 35P and getting reclassed for failure, or as a 35M and wasting valuable years at dli when you can be doing something better with your time.
>>
>>38226060
Its just one of those, there is always someone better and luckier than you type of deals. You just gotta prepare as much as you can and do it.

PT's pretty shit since I haven't been working out (not fat just skinny) but I'm pretty far from actually being close to going to bootcamp, boss told me he's seen more frail guys in Airborne but wants me to start doing PT with the other DEP's to get in shape for when I do sign.

If I'm doing DLI after boot though that's a bit of a relief since I have a lot more time to get my ass ready for airborne.

Would you happen to know much about the DLAB? The 350f guy said they'll put you in whatever language they want disregarding your score.
>>
>>38226154
Im 350F anon, who you are responding to.

Ya, get your ass in shape, do dep pt with them, and pt on your own time as well. You gotta get good. Work on your pull ups now, since those are a bitch to improve compared to everything else.

Ya 99% sure youre going to DLI before you go to airborne.

What do you wanna know about it? Have you taken it? And yes, regardless of passing score its random assignment.
>>
>>38226211
Haven't taken the DLAB yet, I'm not even sure when I'd take it, he just told me about it and said to read up on it and study english.

Some other dude was saying that if you fuck up in DLI you're fucked over and thrown to whatever they need bodies in so I'm a bit worried if they'd throw my ass in farsi or some shit I'll struggle to learn.

Also do you know when I'd take the DLAB? Like I said I've already taken my ASVAB and am not anxious to retake it since I got a high enough score for airborne and 35M/L

To what ridiculous lengths do you think the military/government goes to check your background?

I'm going to apply to OTS in about a year or two once I finish school. When I enlisted 6 years ago, they found that I slapped a kid in 7th grade and found a piece of paper with my hand writing on it talking about how I slapped the mother fucker for knocking my books down. I didn't even know I had anything on record at all and somehow they found it, and I lost my TS and had to get a waiver.

Do you guys think they go fucking full autism and find internet history/posts and shit like that? If they check my discord history I'm fucked.
>>
>>38226285
You take the DLAB very soon, probably when you do your physical or another day soon, its at meps btw.

For studying for the dlab, just make sure you are squared away on your grammar terms like pronouns, adjectives, etc. The first and second part of test is on a fake language using fake rules, for example, for the fake language it will have something like all verbs end in the letter S, all pronouns are the third word, and then you just pick the correct answer on multiple choice. Third part is ridiculous, idk how I even passed that. From what i recall it was random pictures like 3 stars, and the answers were random pictures like 8 birds, 2 elephants, 7 squirrels. So good luck on that.

If you fuck up in dli, you either get restarted to day 1, recycled to another class at an earlier point in the course, or reclassed. Im not even joking, nowadays from what I hear from peers, as long as your a pt stud and write a letter of why you should be kept in the course, they will do one of the first two options. As long as you are not in FUCKING KOREAN, you will keep some sanity. If you get korean, find someone at DLI in your company and try and switch languages, literally bribe the dude with money, dont even skimp out. Id personally pay a dude 1k to switch for tagalog if I went back in time. All they did was have potlucks and the language is basically spanglish, so easy mode.

Hey can you do me a favor and ask your recruiter if 35L is entry level option now? Ive been hearing rumors, but no evidence. Because if 35L is an option, drop everything and call your recruiter to snag that shit right fucking now.

I know that some other dude in this thread was talking about his recruiter or some shit saying he could do 35l but recruiters say all sorts of shit. that wouldn't even be a possibility for me because I ain't 21 yet.

Made a thread for this before, but let's say the hypothetical situation arose where I mentioned to my AF recruiter that I had a mole cut off as a child and now he wants medical records to prove it was non-cancerous. I know it was dumb to mention it at all, but any way I can weasel out of this fuckup? I know most states wipe those records after that long, but will that be an acceptable answer?
>>
>>38226518
ain't 35L got an age limit? That's what I've been hearing.

Recruiter said the latest he has is it still ain't entry level and you have to be 21, this is what he just texted me.

Yep, I'm north of San Diego but Riverside County. There's a San Diego Meps that I'm pretty sure I'll be sent to since it's barely an hour away.

You grew up in NorCal then? Nice, I grew up in fucking riverside lmao

I want to join the air force as an officer but have a history of asthma and sometimes still get light symptoms but very controllable. I know about the medical waivers but how trust worthy are they? >>
>>38226656
Did you not take the asvab at meps? Or did you do it at HS?

Nah bro, I grew up in THE valley. San fernando valley, LA, where valley speak "like totally" originated from. I just happened to be in northern cali when I enlisted. Did everything in 3 days lmao.

I recently visited cali in april, ate chili cheese fries every damn day from tommys and the hat. My wife kept rolling her eyes everytime I had it. She didnt like in n out, and i just rolled my eyes as me and my kid at a 3x3 animal style.

I looked it up, it is 21. Makes sense since you gotta carry a handgun and get drunk with gov officials on occasion.

I did it at a high school I didn't go to because my charter school didn't have it (I got to a charter because I'm behind on credits and I got suspended)

I've been meaning to ask about that actually, I got suspended for a year from my old public high school for carrying a knife on me, I didn't bring it out on anyone or threaten anyone I just carried it because of my situation at the time (niggas was getting robbed). The entire situation had no police involved or anything and I have nothing on my legal record, I never got arrested or any of that bullshit, have my drivers license and all that shit actually.

Will that shit pop up on the clearance or be disqualifying? I think it would be forgotten as long as I didn't fuck up anymore (I haven't)

Also the majority of my teachers loved me as a student and I have a few written down for references if they want names.

Other than that you out hooded me, fuck dude I know too many army dudes from the straight ghetto lmao. my recruiter grew up in San Bernardino and was in school when they did the armed security guards and metal detectors

Youre good to go on your issue btw. No record, no problem.

Pro tip for filling out your background packet:
>For the residence and education references, you can reuse references or just use the same person for everything.
>For work, you dont need to put your supervisors name, just has to be a coworker you liked that can vouch you worked there.
>For the 3 character references, cannot be family members, but if you have no friends, use family or parents friends to vouch for you. Has to be someone whos known you for more than 7 years.
>You do not need to report any fines or citations that were below $300. Luckily now, it actually says that on the packet when you fill it out.

Also just to really clarify, now that im sitting at a computer typing this and not walking from the metro.

My message here >>38226889

They absolutely will check everything you put down, but not just that.

In addition to your nominated references and people in your immediate vicinity they will also speak to your school teachers, college lecturers and so on. Then they'll speak to friends of friends, parents of friends, family acquaintances. They'll even speak to your doctor and other people like that. People you used to work with.

They'll want to know what you're like when you've had a drink. If you've ever asked for money, if you lend money, what you're into sexually, if you've taken drugs, if you've ever told them anything strange or interesting in confience. Where you travel, if you use prostitutes, if you speed, if you gamble. They're looking to see how that matches with what impression you've given them.

No they are not going to torture your neighbour or bug your church but they will get what they want to know and people will hand it over. It also depends on what you're going for, who with and where you'll be going. No one ever really "passes" the vetting procedure - everyone is taken on some sort of risk. You might get X clearance (X being whatever level, but you'll still be restricted from certain things and channelled in a particular way.

Back when I took it, I just had to talk about current events in detail as if I was giving a report. I failed because my american accent was too strong. I couldnt fake a girly korean accent. I did fine in reading and listening. But I always had trouble with speaking through all 3 semesters. I will say that I am proud i passed the course. I always give my old friend shit, because he failed the first semester, even though he was fluent in almost every european language and was getting 4s and 3s across the board on all 6 of his DLPT he took. They were gonna reclass his ass to chaplains assistant until he wrote a letter and walked into the BN CO and told him he could pass any of the euro dlpts and that korean was just retarded difficult.

They all go to the same training school, but they all have different tasks, and are provided with different support.

They do more than cook, they also inspect food sources to make sure its safe to eat.

Didn't watch Blackhawk Down, but I guess I'm thinking about it the wrong way. I'm used to thinking of them as assault troops, but I guess when you're deploying a battalion it would make sense to have those capabilities.

google ranger regiment mos list. Its a list of every mos they have that can work in regiment.

You can always be a mortuary affairs specialist and be sent out to identify bodies and targets.

Hello /k/ and I'm here from /g/ to ask the stupid questions. I'm fucking bored with my current job as a electrical engineer and want a higher pay and more skills that are transferable to better companies after 3 years

> What is it like as a electrical/software engineer in the military (ADF)?
> Can I bring my personal laptop onto base to play video games
> I'm unfit as fuck and wear glasses- I can barely do 50 pushups- probably 30 on a good day, I'm out of breath after a 2km run in the morning. Would I get rejected?

Generally in the military, you either have your own room or share a room, and off duty hours you do what you want.
>>
>>38228968
What you wanna do?
>>
>>38229166
Well I want an infantry mos but how specific can I be? Do I get to pick which regiment im sent to? Ect. I kind of want to be a weapons specialist or a marksman but I'm not sure how is get that either.
>>
>>38228767
So with regiment, if you pick a non combat mos, the benefit is that you get to do your actual job fast paced and without most regular army bullshit.
>>
>>38229057
How old are you? That can affect your PT requirements.
>>
>>38229212
I'm 25
>>38229157
Thanks, how many hours are you required to work? 12 hours?
>>
>>38229197
No you cant be as specific as that. Literally just say 11x op40 when you go to meps. Then if and when you make it to regiment, you are assigned to a battalion and thats your unit. For what you wanna do, just be as squared away and reliable as possible.
>>
>>38229226
Idk for australian defense force. But usually its anything between 4am-5pm, but thats just general doing shit. Your actual work time will vary. For example I had a 7-4 job at one place, and a 8-3 job at another. It depends on many variables, not counting general military training and formations and PT bullshit.
>>
>>38225102
You get reclassed to some bullshit MOS like 14T

So are the pinks and greens in yet?

Also what’s being added to infantry osut for it to be extended?
>>
>>38229378
Nah, probably will be slowly cycled in next fiscal year judging how ASUs came in last time. I think this time I will actually buy these immediately instead of waiting until past the expiration date like the ASUs.
>TFW wearing greens and being kicked out of division formation because im the scumbag who looks different than the others.
>Jokes on them I slept under a tree in the shade during the 4 hour formation.
>Such was the scumbag life of 350F anon during his final year as an nco.
>>
>>38229378
infantry osut this summer is gonna be a pilot program, just adding more range time and extra training in maneuvers. Not that big of a deal. Back when I first got in I was in an extended pilot program that eliminated half the medical shit into what is CLS today, no more bayonet training, taught us how to drive the vehicles, longer range times, and introduction of PRT. Also introduced alot of recovery techniques and electronic earpro. There was alot of sitting around time though since the drill sgt teams had to keep checking the schedule since even they were new to everything as well. Overall I would say my experience was pretty great.
>>
>>38229378
> The expanded OSUT will add a combatives course, combat lifesavers course, more day and night land navigation, and different weapons qualifications.

I'm fine with it considering I need that night nav experience.
>>
>>38229339
Yeah definately, they're just sending every 14 that comes out of AIT straight to Korea
>>
>>38229664
Not too bad. But germany is where 14 series really does some shit. They get to train with all the foreign militaries. Buddy of mine was a 14e, and he was stationed in poland for a year. Cool as shit.
>>
>>38220915
hey lads is combat camera a good MOS?
>>
>>38229817
Yup, but dont be surprised when your daily job is to take photo ops of events around base and spend your day photoshopping stuff for the bases fb page.
>>
>>38229683
Yeah I've heard good things about Germany, I'm not a 14 series but I can say that Korea blows in terms of ADA, the amount of busy and redundant work here is ridiculous, they honestly treat these tangos and echos like shit here

What are the prospects of going in and staying in if I go Naval Flight Officer? Got disheartened about going to law school or trying to get my PhD and teach so doing 20+ years then retiring from the navy seems really appealing right now assuming I'll like it enough.
>>
>>38230085
Friend did it in reserves and was active for over a decade. He flew until O4 when they put him in leadership after 9 years. Then got off active status and worked strategic planning for pentagon for a while, now he teaches. He had a hell of a career
>>
>>38230085
Go for it bro. My neighbor is a retired navy pilot commander. After he got out he taught at the war college then retired from that and lives on the beach fishing and making surf boards.
>>
>>38230085
I'm in flight training right now. The navy sucks NFO dick. Not even shitting you. The NFOs who graduated OCS with me are in primary already gearing up to fly the T-6 and here I am in IFS playing vidya all day long because the thunderstorms delay our flights. I heard there's an ensign NFO with 7 pink sheets and he's still in the program.

>>
>>38231693
Every branch does that, also some marry strippers before a deployment to get family sep pay
>>
>>38231693
You always hear the stories, but nothing like that ever happened in any of my units.

We did have one guy get caught up in a Pedophile sting on leave. A bunch of guys got kicked out for weed (I was stationed in WA during the legalization process). Drunk driving galore. Handful of suicides. Lots of domestic violence, adultery, and divorce.
>>
So maybe I'm legit retarded but how does holiday block leave work? I have an option 40 contract and supposedly I'm finishing osut in late november (though IDK if I'm in that new infantry pilot program or not since I ship at the end of July) and I'm kinda confused here.
Is it a send-everyone-home-for-3-weeks kind of deal? Is it at a commander's discretion? Is it optional whether you go home or stay on base?
t. actual retard
>>
>>38230302
DESU that is the kinda of career trajectory im aiming for (except Maine instead of the beech)
>>
>>38231747
>Lots of domestic violence, adultery, and divorce.
This one sailor i worked with was accused of DV, lost the civil case and custody of his kids despite PROVING his innocence, and then got kicked out of the navy because the navy "can't be associated with wife beaters." I seriously hope he doesn't off himself.

So how it works is you sign out on whatever the thursday or friday usually the week of the 15th in dec then come back the week of jan 3rd. Its literally a sign out and sign in type deal. And usually if youre in training they will delay the class date if its that close to block leave. And you do have the option of taking leave and fucking off or not taking leave, staying on base going to light if any duties and ocasionally a formation.

I highly adbise you use the leave and fuck off. There is literally zero point in saving the leave during the beginning of service. Use it,go see family, go travel to europe, go roadtrip, go on a bender. Reason being, yes you get 30 days a year, but until youre established in your first unit, and even then, youre not gonna be able to take more than 3 days at a time every 6 months if even. Trust me, use the downtime while you can.
>>
>>38225338

Can I enlist as an 11B op 40, or does it have to be 11x? I'd like to be a ranger
>>
>>38225338
>As a combat arms or infantryman guy your unit will monopolize 100% of your time and offer you basically nothing in return but back to back field problems and daily barracks rooms inspections at 5am. It's highly regimented and that'll limit your ability to pursue ambitions like packet school shit.

I think this is a very important post that should be in each thread
