Unironically this. If you’ve got lib sinplings or parents or parents siblings and your parents/grandparents are gun owners make sure their guns are protected. Maybe buy them a nice safe or something those other fucks can’t get into. Don’t let them disarm anyone.

>because 15 people were killed
Or because 60 people at the far end of life could not bear the suffering anymore. When some 85 year old suffering from numerous maladies decides to off himself then it is really not much of a tragedy. We have grown to fail to accept that life is finite. In doing so we have developed the notion that these old fucks have no right to perishing with any dignity. We try to force them to live forever in dementia, disease, and perpetually boring squalor. Denying them suicide is about the cruelest thing we can do to them.
>>
>>38528595
although this isn't related, at the same time we shouldn't allow them all of this "peaceful euthanasia" bullshit. let them have guns and handle it themselves when they're ready. don't force them to die.
>>
How about punishing people who can't fucking handle their guns responsibly instead of outright going for gun ban and punishing us all?

I remember an article somewhere about the writer's father being a jaded criminal lawyer who taught her to always have a gun nearby. Apparently didn't teach her to have proper gun storage and security, so towards the end of the article, the writer fearing her fucking toddler would shoot himself by stumbling onto the moron's guns kept willy nilly all over the house, gives her guns away to her sister and now feels safer without realizing throughout the article that maybe she should've kept the guns in proper storage and quick access safes and still have a living kid and means of defense.

I unironically think that there should be a mental health evaluation before being able to purchase a firearm, and then a check-up every X number of years. Increase the frequency of the check-up upon reaching old age.

The problem is, how can you implement this, and make sure nobody can ever abuse it to keep people who are healthy from owning guns? My fear would be, it would get infested with liberals who deny guns to everyone. It needs to be completely unbiased.

And since that is probably impossible, best to not have it at all.

>dozens of cases

Wow, they found DOZENS of cases in a country of THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FUCKING MILLION PEOPLE. One of the most aggravating attributes of the anti-gun crowd is there apparent inability to grasp scale. Accidental shootings, hell let's throw school shooting in their as well, are a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of all homicides in this country. It's statistical noise.

Yet somehow this constitutes an "epidemic" in their illogical minds.

Agreed. There isn't even a problem with guns, so restricting access to them provides literally no benefit and the detrimental effects are massive. I live in Australia and I can tell you it does nothing for crime, nothing for accidents and is basically a huge boot on the neck of every free thinking person, gun owner or not.

Guns are dangerous, like so many things in life. The fact that accidents will happen or some people will have ill intent is not something that can be legislated away. It's akin to the hysteria over shark attacks. Being shot to death (or eaten alive) is visceral but you're just as dead as the tens of thousands who die in car accidents every year.
>>38531405

If you compare America state by state to comparable European countries you see that almost all of these "problems" the government and their lapdogs come up with are just juking statistics and manipulating ignorance.

>John took my Glocks and put me in a nursing home, everybody. No more hickok45 videos.

I don't see the problem with calling attention to the issue. If you can't remember half the people you meet and get confused easily then a weapon that relies on target recognition isn't a great idea. This isn't a hypothetical, people have been shot because of this type of problem. One notable case was a fireman that opened a front door to check on a diabetic that was slipping in and out of awareness. He panicked and shot the rescuer. It's the same as taking their driver's license. I don't think they should seize property or have any kind of government intervention but a responsible caretaker would restrict access if they knew the owner was bordering on mentally disabled. You don't steal their car, you take the keys so they don't drive into a parade trying to get to a job they quit 20 years ago. As for "they're gonna grab yer guns when ya get too old!", that shit is old news. Under the right circumstances and without taking legal precautions people will take *everything*, not just your Garand and surplus rounds. This is not some new political conspiracy to rob the elderly, this is already part of a shitty thing called the Estate Tax.

If you actually read this far without shitting yourself with internet rage and typing whatever names you're going to call me, know that's an opinion coming from experience. I've cared for several people that have had dementia in varying degrees. There is a point these people reach where they're under near constant supervision or in a private facility that already restricts weapons ownership. They would definitely kill all the nurses (half of them deserve it). When you're having a conversation with someone and 15 minutes later they're screaming at you for stealing their cat/sandwich/children you do not want them to suddenly remember that there's a 1911 in their walker basket but also forget who you are.
>>
>>38531426

From a fundamental standpoint, I can agree with the article in OP. I lived with an elderly gun owner suffering from dementia and it got to a point where he would request access to his shotgun to shoot a snake he hallucinated.
The article isn't wrong, but melting down heirlooms but if his offspring are liberal cucks and afraid of guns, he probably messed up somewhere along the line.

It's enemy agitprop. It upsets the target audience and then medicates them with a soothing solution. The object is power and control. Nothing else.

I have on and off depression. Granted i held a loaded mosin under my chin at a few points, but without the love and discipline firearms ownership brings, I wouldn’t be posting this. I love guns. Without them I wouldn’t be as happy as i am or have anything to look forward to- i want to start a family and build a gun collection.
While I believe that mentally ill people should be monitored, i sure as shit dont want the government to do it. Thats for family, support systems, and mental health providers to decide on.
>>
>>38540464
>Thats for family
I mean it isn't like an abusive family is a reasonably common reason for people to end up with poor mental health in the first place.
>support systems
Hoe specific.
>and mental health providers to decide on.
You have assets you can liquidize? Pawn that shit and give us the money.

Any voluntary support suffers form relying on people around you to have the time, ability and desire to help you. The last one in particular may be withheld for whatever fucking reason they feel like. And when it's the second that's lacking instead, or when someone sees an easy mark, you may find people stepping in who aren't going to make shit any better.

The government on the other hand will most likely see little but a SSN on a piece of paper. They're the least likely to give a fuck which end of the egg you start eating from. But since half the country is convinced that spooky scary government man would put them all in atheist conversion death camps if he only could, they'll vote in such a way that the government will always remain incompetent, incapable and for most things badly underfunded.
