Hunting season is right around the corner for most of us, post your deer/turkey/goat/elk/hog hunting loadout the terrain you'll be hunting in. Keep the Fudd shit to a minimum.

I'll be using my .300memeout AR and my .44mag Super Blackhawk with a burris fastfire for shooting deer in the East Texas Pineywoods (under 100 yards). I've been waiting almost 7 months for a suppressor so maybe I'll have it by November 3.

Hunting stories also welcome, last year I had a close call with a dropcat so maybe I'll get the faggot this year. We also have turkeys in the area for the first time in 50 years, tho I won't be killing any so they can repopulate.

Weapons aren't inherently Fudd, the people using them are. So don't post any bullshit like .50bmg sucking the eyes out of a deer (yes I've seen the YouTube video, he shoots the deer through the eyes if you watch again, and demo ranch shot through a deck of cards with a .50 and it didn't disturb it)
>>
>>39392259
Examples of Fudd shit:
>.223 is too weak for whitetail
>.308 is too weak
>6.5 creedmore is better than .308 even though most people won't be shooting deer at 800 yards
>Suppressors are unfair
>ARs are unsuitable for hunting
>.45 will kill deer reliably, I used it in the service!

You get the idea
>>
>>39392371
Oh, thought you were one of those retards who called shotguns and bolt action rifles and similar "fudd guns", whatever the fuck that means.

Breddy good man, where are you hunting? I was gonna buy a lot of Riverside land so I can go innawoods for a week or two at a time but the Jew lawyers couldn't get me an easement even though the family I was getting it from have owned it since the 1850s

>>
>>39392674
There's not much of that in East Texas, there's a very small piece of public hunting land in Palestine but there's too many assholes. I wanna go innawoods by myself or with my gf or maybe brother
>>39392685
Unironically this is my dad, he was in the army when they switched from m1s to m14s and he thinks 30-06 is massively more powerful even though I try to tell him that .308 is like 95 percent the power of m2 ball with a shorter case
>>
>>39392721
If you're under 100 yards you would probably be okay, .45 out of a long barrel isn't bad at all. Are you running a suppressor? If you are you should just use .300 blackout, subs are similar in energy to .45 with better ballistics and supers can kill hogs and whitetail pretty good under 200 yards

Really wish I could use one of my AR's but shots range from 60-600 yards here. So I use my Sendero.
>tfw I get all set up for long range durr slayin'
>tfw 4 of my last 5 deer were shot under 100yds
Guess I'm better at sneaking than originally thought.

Also this will be the first year I've gotten to hunt big game with a suppressor. Looking forward to it.
>>
>>39392685
I run into that here in Missouri. Everybody wants 180gr .30-06, 150gr 7mmRM, or 180gr .300wm to shoot their scrawny little 170lb deer at 50 yards.

I've been openly and publicly derided for hunting with a bolt-action 6.5grendel, actually had the wardens called on me by some retard who thought it was too small to be legal (we can hunt with any centerfire caliber including .25acp).
>>
>>39392243
No pics, but I'll be generally hunting deer, javelina, and hog in south Texas.
I'll probably use my .223 AR, but I'll probably sight in either my kar98K and my winchester levergat in .25-35. Of course, I'll have a .357 mag revolver for backup (Trooper Mk III).
Season might be bad this year, though.

>m2 ball
Yeah, that’s underpowered as fuck for 30-06. Try modern loads and compare. You really see a difference when shooting at long distances. 30-06 would be very capable round for a military marksmen today, but the ammo is heavier.

Okay this brings up another point
Penetration vs expansion
>>
>>39396590
.45s reliably penetrate 12 inches (FBI standard) in ballastic gel, it should be just fine out of a long barrel. But if you're really worried about that you can just use .300 blackout like I said earlier
>>
>>39396590
It's a yote. Unless they grow em truly massive where you live even a frangible round would probably do the trick in a pinch. Id probably go with a spicy 185gr+p load, any bullet with a good street rep should offer more than enough penetration and pretty good expansion. Underwoods 185gr bonded load comes to mind. OTOH if you don't mind the extra cost and really want to limit penetration then their 174 maximum expansion loading would probably provide interesting results.
>>

Just got back from my deer hunt; got a real nice 4x4. I was using my brother's .30-06 tikka T3 and a colt walker, but ended up using my guide's custom .300 Winchester magnum rifle to take the shot. I had to wait an hour and a half between putting the crosshair on my buck and pulling the trigger because the fucker decided to climb a mountain and take a nap in a quartering-towards position with his head right in the way of his heart and lungs. 10 more minutes of waiting and I would have started shivering, destroying my chance of hitting him at 580 yards, but he got up and gave me a nice broadside right before that happened and I pulled it off. Really happy with how that hunt turned out, since I was really just going for some meat for jerky.
>>
>>39394885
Protip: the walker isn't the famed 'big iron'.
>>
>>39396859
You ever kill a deer with the Walker?
>>
>>39396891
Just about had to on that hunt. I ended up hitting high, clipping the top of the lungs and breaking the spine. The uphill position of the buck made it dangerous to approach, so I ended up putting him down with another rifle round instead of using the walker. There was actually a chance for me to take one solely using the walker, but he was too small; I was after some meat this trip.
>>
>>39396916
Not bad. I finished one off last year with my cz52, a hollowpoint right to the head.

About the only thing I guess I’m lacking is some type of an Uber big magnum, but I don’t really see the need in my situation. The longest shot I’ll ever hope to get where I shoot is about 75yards, and there isn’t anything on the continent I couldn’t thump to death with my 458 Socom at that distance.
I think a nice recurve bow is then next thing on my to-get list. Or maybe a big bore blowgun to try on squirrel.

I'm an NV hunter, and from what I've seen eastern deer hunting requires an entirely different strategy. I can't offer you a lot of help in that regard. Meat Eater on netflix.

Start reading local guidlines available in your state.

Sign up for local hunter education courses.

Most importantly get out into the bush and hone your skills.

I started getting into hunting 3 years ago and have yet to bag any big game but every year I get closer and closer and I feel like just being outdoors is the best experience you hope for.

Last few hunts have failed for me because I can only get out for a few days at a time so I plan to spend at least a week out this year.

In a nutshell
>drive around unit, spotting animals on mountains or fields
>see animals either walking or bedded in the distance
>take a look through the spotting scope
>see one you like, start making a plan to stalk it
>get as close as possible from the road without spooking them, then start stalking them while staying upwind
>get as close as you need to be to take your shot without being spotted, take aim and wait for a good shot opportunity on the animal
If the animal is on private property, you have to wait until it leaves that property to take a shot at them. Somehow all the animals have learned this and try to leg it to irrigated fields as soon as possible during nightfall and usually leave right at the break of day, so right in the earliest light of the morning you need to spot them and start a stalk, then follow them into the mountains all while not spooking the group. I don't know how all this compares to hunting from a blind since I've never hunted from a blind, but I really enjoy the stalking method of the west.

>Well Anon, if you used an assault rifle to hunt, there'd be more holes than deer, and you couldn't eat it
>>
Deer in central Wisconsin.
I usually hunt with my tikka t3 in 30-06. But I might try and use my AR with some 65gr soft points.
>>
>>39402124
Give 70 Gr Barnes VOR-TX 5.56nato a try.
It’s the best factory hunting ammo available for the AR in my opinion.

Correlation =\= causation

More serious hunters hike deeper, less serious hunters don't go out as early, try as hard, devote as much thought to it, etc.

Just cook it completely and be wary of fleas and do a tick check after skinning. Just like and other little furry snack.

My 1916 Spanish Mauser in 7mm Mauser is the only hunting rifle I need.
>>
>>39405634
OP here, I posted my gewehr 98 earlier but I have 2 Spanish Mausers and a 1918 Swede. At least I think it's a 1918, I don't feel like taking it out rn to check

I don't get excited about the kill anymore. I'm numb. I enjoy the stalk and the meal afterwards.

Alright im gonna hunt with a pistol this year
I have a tok, a 6 inch 357 mag, and a 9mm. I shoot best with the tok and have some PPU hollowpoints for it, but I also have HP 357 mag.

Should I go with the knockdown power of the 357 or should I go with my tok which has smaller, more accurate sights and a flat trajectory within 100 yards? Will my tok reliably take down durr? What about if I shoot the deer multiple times?

ive also got a 45 lc SAA, would that do better than the others? the sights kinda suck so im not very good with it.
>>
>>39392243
Can you field dress a deer with an AK bayonet?
>>
>>39407237
I don't see why not, if it's sharp. Bonus points for doing it while it's attached to the AK

Found the nasally-voiced little fag.
>>
>Be me
>Get invited to go durr hunting with girlfriend's dad
>Take my AR, naturally, since it's the gun I'm most comfy with
>We get out there into the woods, and get our guns out as we exit the trucks
>Suddenly, he's fucking staring at my gun
>"What the fuck is that, Anon?"
>"My rifle, sir."
>He actually spits, grabs my rifle out of its case, and throws it down a ravine, then just stares me down in silence before saying "I thought you had honor, son."
>He's a big bear of a man like Paul Bunyan's redheaded half-brother, so I just sort of stand there as he gets into his truck and leaves
>Girlfriend texts me saying that we have to break up, her pa gave her an ultimatum and family comes first, he won't have her dating "a prissy missy".

I was going to fucking marry this girl, /k/. Fuck hunters and fuck hunting.

It is you who is the retard who needs to shoot better, and kill the animal in a humane way instead of letting it suffer.

your friend seems foolish btw and his dog died because of it and now you have a complex around it, a shotgun is better for boar or a larger caliber rifle you just want to play soldier against animals who can't shoot back.

Who gives a shit what people use to hunt, Elmer?
Its his money, 7.62x39 is good for boars, boars are parasites who travel in large numbers, cause millions worth of damage and deserve eradication.
What difference does it make if the platform is obsolte or not? It kills pigs and does a good job so its good enough
for me
>>
>>39415510

Have fun getting mauled because .223 only makes Winnie angrier.
>>
>>39415551

I ask your mom to hold my enormous balls while I do it, obviously. Again, hunting whitetail with glorified .22 is retarded and anyone who does it is a mall ninja.

>>
>>39415646
>Who gives a shit what people use to hunt, Elmer?
It's sadistic animal abuse. He's not in the 3rd world and his only gun is an AK and if he is poor he should consider doing other things than hunting and guns. There's nothing "wrong" about my arguments weeb and you don't have any other than your own passivity.
>>
>>39415467
>>39415479
Not the pic poster, but feral cats are a big problem in some places. Certain native wild bird populations are dwindling because of them. They also kill and maim small livestock and smaller family pets.
Don’t judge based on your emotion like a liberal
We don’t know the facts.
However, if he *actually did* maliciously cap someone’s family pet we should skin him alive
>>
>>39415646
using a moist nugget is literally a better option, there is no excuse at this point, i'm not saying it should necessarily be illegal to hunt with an ak or ar but it's just stupid.
>>
>>39415715
i'm sure he's killing the neighbors cat and posting it on /k/ because they're destroying his precious crops needed to survive. Stop being a goof who likes killing cats

Why should anyone spend another couple hundred dollars on a rifle that does the same as a tactical one but is an obsolete bolt action piece of shit?
