What can the peorples of /m/ tell me of FASA's Star Trek stuff? I remember seeing their stuff advertised as a kid but wasn't really old enough to get into it.

They were lead miniatures for the Trek fasa game in the 80s. They came unassembled and unpainted. I remember seeing them in a toy store or comic book store, I was tempted to get the Excelsior because I love the design, but I had no idea how to glue the parts together. Soldering I guess, or maybe superglue. They were small, most around 3 inches.

Eaglemoss came to the rescue and has been making Star Trek miniatures the past few years that come assembled and pre-painted. A real good selection of Trek ships, I recommend them.

Any truth to this?

They call it the Akiraprise because it's basically the Akira class with inverted nacelle pylons. The two share a LOT of design elements.

>'Use the Akira!' came the order. They really thought no one would notice." [14](X) In effect, the producers at first wanted to reuse the Akira-class without any changes, "lock stock and barrel" according to a horrified Drexler. When informed of this decision, he and other members of the art department chose to oppose the imperative. [15](X) Herman Zimmerman subsequently commented, "We found a ship [the USS Thunderchild] that was in our archives – a minor vessel that had been used in a battle in one of the features that had been created by ILM. We did not use that ship, but we took ideas from it and from those ideas eventually – and this process took about four months, all week and weekend CGI work by [...] Doug Drexler – we finally came up with [the eventual] shape."

I think I have PDFs of a bunch of it somewhere in my stacks

But yeah I too saw them in Starlog and in the comics shops. Never got them but from my experience with the Aliens minis you could just superglue them.

I got really close to getting a shitload when Local Game Store was expecting to go out of business and they clearanced a bunch of their minis.
Got some of the Battletech VF-1s though.

What always amazed me about this story was the fact that television executives actually knew what an Akira-class starship was, and that it was a popular design among the Star Trek community.

I'm assuming that whoever this was he couldn't have been an actual fan of the franchise because an actual fan would know that the rest of the fanbase would never approve of reusing a design no matter how popular, especially in the context of a prequel and how autistic Trekkies are in regards to consistency.

I've been rewatching enterprise since a few days ago. It's such a tragedy that it was canned before the refit saw service.

If I somehow make 100 million dollars, I will invest 30 million into making the next season of enterprise, bakula and all. If the based it on the novels that have come out since the series ended, things would go well.

This picture reminds me that a lot of the FASA ships were modelled for SFC and BC, if you're interested. It's not the same as the physical models, but you can fly and fight with them.

Holes in the saucer? Who designed it, John Eaves?
>>
>>15695318
The fucking producer was Rick Berman, and if i remember correctly he found out what the internet was at the time and saw that people liked the akira and that is why he wanted it to be the new enterprise.

It's a lot better than the teaser suggested, but damn all that empty space. It's like the designer realized they were getting too close to perfection, so they had to throw in some superfluous design elements.

On the concept art , it says "Drawn by JE", so maybe Eaves did design it
