You guys just don't understand
they deliberately designed the mechs, the suits and the cockpits to look like shit and skimped on the effects budget and abandoned any sense of style from the first film to show how the technology has advanced
>>
so we have to blame apple and their disdain for phisical buttons for PR2 lack of cockpit props, and foami piloting costumes?
>>
I'm not happy with you using "shit" as a synonym for "Bayformers". Shit deserves better.

Yup. The Jaegers look like a natural progression from things like Striker as the base. Why the fuck wouldn't they be sleeker, lighter, and faster, with more impressive weaponry? If mankind hasn't advanced their Jaeger tech in however many years since the original, then they deserve to only live as kaiju food.

The same research showed that young people still have a harder time with flat UI than non-flat, though. They might like it more than older people, but they still find it shitty to actually use.

I for one don't mind flat UI as long as it's not the only UI type available. Windows 8 made the mistake of thinking tablet UI design was universally applicable when it sucks shit for desktops, and Windows 10 is still saddled with a bunch of that baggage even though it's much better overall.

Tacit Ronin in the original script was in the brand spanking new Jaeger class, so elements of it's advancement might have carried over into it's design.

If you can find it, give it a read, it's pretty baller, Tacit Ronin rapes a trio of Cat 5 Kaiju to death in the climax of the film when the rift tears opens and dozens of kaiju flood out and attack the Shatterdome.

It being one of the earliest models does make sense as long as none of the other, later models later on took much from its design (which is the case) since it suggests they took a spin with the super skinny speedy frame and decided other approaches to design were better, at least with the level of tech they had.

I strongly suspect that this shot won't be in the final product. It's completely different from the rest of the visuals in the trailer, from the way the camera pans, to the way the robots move, to the way the cityscape behind them looks.

The advertising section probably just told the effects team that they needed an Avengers pan to sell the robots as marketable characters. Everything about the advertising so far has tried to carve a niche out of the comic book movie trend.

I have no clue. I'm guessing whatever movements that are unsynched are ignored by the system. But Mako did activate that plasmacaster by herself. Even before that, they were activated by only one person moving with the hand controller during Knifehead. Maybe weapons are an exception?

>>15945514
The group pan and the charge afterwards are definitely connected. But the shot of Gipsy getting ahead and activating the swords either take place at a different time or it's as you say, since Saber Athena is suddenly on the right. I'm honestly fine with them experimenting. Just that the CG still needs work.

>Just that the CG still needs work

It's more than the CGI needing work. The speed of the pan and the behavior of the Jaegers in the shot was sterile and awkward, even compared to the other movements in the trailer.

For example, if you just watch the way the Kaiju behave in the trailer, it's pretty much identical to the Kaiju movement in the first movie. The same sense of scale and weight is there. And in the duel in the snow between Gypsy Avenger and the black jaeger, the machines only move slightly more fluidly than in the first movie. But in that shot in particular, the camera is moving at like 200 miles an hour, and the machines move in a strange, weightless way.

Part of me just wants to ignore a bad, pandering shot of the trailer, but I really don't think this fits with the rest of the clips we see.
>>
>>15943835
Reminds me of the CG in Transformers Prime.

Saber Athena is supposedly Chinese, I think we have another Russian one, and maybe even a second Chinese Jaeger piloted by three people if the trailer indicates anything.

Without the leg-clamps, how does he run in the cockpit without actually moving? Is his feet floating above the floor? Is it so slippery he's just doing a Running Man in place on it?

Also how does he do a flip and a roll with all those wires attached to his back?
>>
>>15946074
>Also how does he do a flip and a roll with all those wires attached to his back?

>>15946074

>Also how does he do a flip and a roll with all those wires attached to his back?
Gipsy or i dont remember who did a suplex to a Kaiju in the first movie.
>>
>>15946074
You don't actually want the pilot to be able to do a roll in the cockpit to have their mech do a roll, because then the pilot will get the sensation of rolling twice. Suspend the pilot by an arm attached to their back and detect when they're making the spinal motion to dive forward to have the robot do the same. The robot's roll will give the pilot the sensation of rolling. Stop the roll when they pull back.
>>
>>15946074
>Also how does he do a flip and a roll with all those wires attached to his back?
I'd take a guess and assume the jaeger's computer and the pilot's neural link does most of the contextual things that the users themselves can't physically do. Crimson Typhoon's three pilots could get the jaeger to leap up and twist its lower body around for a big throw, for example.

That's what I thought on first, with Crimson Typhoon's flip, but the entire point of CT was that doing a simple throw was a super amazing special attack, and it needed three people to be able to do even that much. I don't think rolling is something you'd want to do with a Jaeger. Jumping and at worst cases, diving, should be good enough especially when combined with thrusters. Maybe the harness is holding them in place when walking and we still don't know if the weird looking floor is just a floor.

For what it's worth, a nuclear reactor sucks at being a proper nuclear bomb.

They're great at getting super fucking hot to the point they melt themselves down into a mess of material that will kill anyone unfortunate enough to be in the same room as it, but they're not specced for explosions like a purpose built nuclear explosive.

That said, drop that into the ocean and you get a fucking shitstorm of a steam explosion as the molten core superheats the water it becomes exposed to. I forget if the other side of the rift is fluid filled but if it is then well guess what happens?

Anyway somewhere along the line you could explain away there being enough of Gip to reverse engineer even as it was used to blow up the rift aliens.

Do you have Obsidian's close-up when firing the shoulder missiles. It really shows how detailed the designs actually are.

>>15950067
>not getting anything distinct
Well, if you don't consider the difference between Gipsy and Obsidian as anything substantial. Then there are the handheld weapons and a giant morningstar that is also a flail. They're more universal than individual but still distinct when compared to the first.

>>15950409
Alright, let's talk scale. Pic related. Is there a sense of scale? Try to realize that we have a bias since we've seen the first and understand the relationship between scenes. I'd say there is even without the presence of other objects. It achieves that in no small part of the (underrated) water fx and physics. Then there are Gipsy's headlights which we can tell are really bright but also small due to distance (again, good fx) which can be juxtaposed to the entirety of the Jaeger. Not to mention all the other small light sources dotted on Gipsy's surface.

My point is that those things happen because it is both at night and at sea. That doesn't seem to be the focus in Uprising. So other than buildings and low angles which are present both of those screencaps, what else can we add to emphasise scale in a city environment? Keep in mind that post-production is also not done.

SA seems to be the only melee dedicated unit. Bracer obviously has guns but can also launch the morningstar. A nuclear reactor melting down doesn't result in an weapons yield explosion at all. Explosions resulting from criticality accidents are sufficient to destroy the reactor but not much else, a steam explosion may also happen. So a robot powered by a nuclear reactor cannot cause an explosion equivalent to that of a nuclear weapon, and gypsy danger could not realistically have completed it's suicide run at all.

So it's really irrelevant. There should not have been a nuclear explosion, but there was anyway. There should not be salvageable wreckage, but there was anyway.

This is not good quality fiction.

>>15953881

>>
>>15953927
unless you are a nuclear physicist , dont go making such statements , there are a fuckton of varying desing for a nuclear reactor , those need a reaction chamber and some control , and the whole coolant stage.
a nuclear esplosive , the most basic , needs a series of charges shaped in an implosive lense to force a more dramatic fission reaction.

so now tell me why in a ficticios and futuristic setting this is so crazy to think?
try not to patronize so much your fellow anons , or expose something to back your statement
>>
>>15953958
Really, power plants can't explode like nuclear bombs. Rather, their danger is that they melt themselves down and can cause steam explosions when they contact relatively colder water.
>>
>>15953958
The enrichment factor of uranium used in almost all power producing reactors is too low to result in a nuclear explosion regardless of what you do to it. Most reactors use 3-5% u235 uranium and the theoretical minimum you need for a weapon of any kind is 20%, but in practice working nuclear bombs use 90%. So most nuclear reactor designs simply do not have the necessary fissile material to cause a nuclear explosion.

Reactors and bombs also need a fundamentally different arrangement of fissile material. A bomb needs its material to be arranged as densely as possible, specifically in a homogeneous sphere (or a sphere layered with different fissile materials) whereas reactors need the fissile material to be arranged geometrically with space between elements for moderator/coolant and control rods.

There are some types of application of nuclear power that would produce nuclear explosions on failure (see nuclear salt water rockets, which are essentially a sustained nuclear explosion), but the only explosion you're ever going to see out of a nuclear reactor are low yield fizzles that blow up the core or steam explosions.
>>
>>15954050
now this is a proper " STFU noob"

>>
>>15953976
that was already explained , the question was more on the line of " could you make a powerplant that could also explode like a bomb ?"
but as explained in >>15954050 its higly unlikely
>>
>>15953958
there is not a single reactor design out there that can be used as a bomb, and there never will be.

the simple principle behind the two are completely different and opposite and will never be compatible or interchangable.

From what I remember, Gipsy Danger was stated to have cameras within the visor but all we saw were holographic displays in front of the pilots. There was a holo representation of Knifehead when they fought so I'm sure if that was actually how they saw the environment.

I don't know if there's still status displays between the pilots and the visor but those sure look like command consoles to me. Makes sense for them to be non-physical if your pilots are going to be more mobile. Wouldn't want them to get in the way of a kick, for example.

The first Pacific Rim was like "SERIOUS BUSINESS, you don't move these monster like a golf cart"
This trailer feel like "we are going to spawn a new jeager, easy repair, no inertia, just get ready for the robot to high-five as if they are men in rubber suit in a green mo-cap room"

Also, I suspect they'll try to Americanize the things with more typical american value (self-made jeager and stuff), the first movie did poorly in the US. So I wonder if the new cast will just become secondary character to an american duo or something

enough rambling.

>Pacific Rim
>"america as fuck"
most character aren't american, those who are are shown as massive jerk, the black dude isn't here for the trope, the MC have to fake his accent, the second MC is a non whitewashed non submissive Japanese women
The action don't happen in the US, the coolest mecha aren't from the US. And the day is only saved because every country acted together instead of relying on American exceptionalism.

> the more likely course is that they'll try to shove as much chink pandering as they can because that's where the first movie actually made a decent impact.
You get it wrong, Hollywood stopping to pander at American and remembering other country also have great value would be a good thing.
Here, they've just made the robot even more human like with shitty gizmo and no originality

I don't think they'll cater to Chinese because that market don't need to. They are already used to watch "america fuck yeah" super-hero movie since forever. (but still get ready for a Chinese superman)

Wait, PR2 doesn't have Del Toro?
>>
>>15956909
No, sir.
>>
>>15956909
He's producing, but not directing, since he wanted to direct The Shape of Water and didn't have time for both.

I meant the still image itself. Not fair to compare a whole sequence to 1-2 second shots from a trailer.

>>15956272
They seem really small too. Looking back at >>15955432 you don't really notice how segmented the chest pieces are. If it just had a solid chestplate I think the rest of the suit would have been fine.

>>15956739
None of which are in the trailer. The only kick was a reverse roundhouse by Saber Athena. The two slashes are >>15942277 and >>15942401 . I don't see a "super epin roll" anywhere.

>I don't see a "super epin roll" anywhere

Maybe that's because you're a retard who doesn't actually pay attention? Uprising apologists are the fucking worst

>RUns forward and jumps to slide on his fucking chest like it's a slip'n'slide
>Somehow ends up going backwards on his knees while slashing at him
>>
>>15957117
that seems to be just edited together , look at it, obsidian something something only uses the shoulder missiles , and then on the next scene has the arm-blades deployed, likewise gipsy, so i believe that is a pretty condensed fight scene and there will be no roll bulshit , just a lunge at some point , and at the end , some sort of powerslide that ends in that slash ant the end of the gif
>>
>>15957131
I will hate you forever if I go watch the movie and there is that shitty fight move
>>
>>15957184
don´t hate the guy who points out the obvious , hate the editors
>>
>>15957117
You are a fucking jerk ignoring every stunts made by the Jeagers in PR1. Kys.
>>
>>15957117
So, no "super epin roll" then? Just an ungraceful, last resort dive under Obsidian's missiles and then a cut to a clearly later event of Gipsy on its knees sliding backwards in another last resort attempt to not get shanked while counterattacking. Again, not really a graceful or acrobatic maneuver though it looks cool.

>Uprising apologists
Plenty to worry about but I'd rather post whatever things that are actually in the trailer for discussion. I'm not worried about flips n' shit because there was none.

>>15957184
You're clearly not thinking straight. Calm down.
>>
>>15950434
no they don't, they look like anime mechs because they wanted the i buy gundam merch crowd
>>
>>15957221
>>15957344
I will hate him for the FALSE HOPE of a good movie without the ebin roll
