They need better legs and hips. Everything but the AT-TE look like they wouldn't be able to stand back up after getting knocked over onto their sides. The AT-TE is exempt because it has those two massive legs on either side of it to prevent falling over to begin with.
Other than that, I like Star Wars walkers.
>>
>>16141007

I'm fine with everything but the series' portrayal of the AT-AT and its like. Surely such a high-powered vehicle would have combined repulsors and shorter folding legs that were only deployed when speed wasn't required.
>>
>>16141007
I always wondered why they have mechs instead of tanks as their main armored vehicles

Until i realized their tanks are incredibally shit and they had drone technology perfected atbthat point

Those legs look comically inadequate. Also a greatcoat, while fashionable, is the more impractical thing in Imperial uniforms since the Royal Guards, but you'd probably just leave it at the base anyway.

Still, badass.

I like the first six movie's mecha fine enough, the new movies' ones suck ass.
Maybe it's just that I feel all the new designs, mechanical or organic, they've shown off that aren't a literal repaint are forgettable at best.

Original trilogy: Pretty cool
Extended Universe: Kinda weird, but I'm still here
Prequels: wtf, I guess the naboo fighter is kinda cool, even tho it's yellow...
Disney: oh, we're back to the original trilogy designs...just worse.

It has armor resilient to heavy blasters and artillery (though they have thrown this out the window lately...) and its height allows it to hit distant targets without being blocked by terrain or blockades.

And contrary to what most peoples think about the Hoth scene it really isn't THAT easy to successfully trip one up with a tow cable.
>>

This. They only managed to pull that off once and honestly wouldn't have happened in the first place if they had proper support. I think it's a little ridiculous Luke was able to blow one up on foot with no opposition.

Sure, walkers are balanced to stand up all day long. They can even run up and down hills and wade through dense swamps. It's only when someone or something outside of their control that forcibly trips them, like you blatantly see in the movies, that their one flaw becomes glaring.
Then they just ineffectually lay there or explode because they don't have the articulation to get back up.

>>
>>16142944
I can respect when people like something I don't.

But I have to say, the only way I can see people truly liking that movie is if they liked it ironically. The 'humor' wasn't funny, and intentionally 'serious' or 'deeper meaning pauses' ended up being ridiculous and mockable.

The only way I can see this movie under a positive light is that it presents the pimp that hollywood/disney is to their whore movies. In which case, rian is subverting the franchise and warning people to move on.
>>
>>16142977
The humor almost all worked for me (loved the joke about Hux's mom seeing how she's a whore), the serious moments all worked (Hamill was god tier), and I certainly had problems (it is an 8/10) the good parts more than made up for them

Not a big fan of its general design, but some crafts are neat, like X-Wing, A-Wing and Moldy Crow (from Dark Forces). There are some curious unusual designs, like Darth Maul's motobike and Boba Fett's ship.

I think they are fine. But I do find it funny how western nerds can't suspend their disbelief for a medium sized bipedal humanoid japanese mecha, but can for a giant mechanical camel.
>>
>>16145834
Probably because its clumsy and was taken down by a cheap "aha!" wire solution in one movie. Western audiences don't like it when there isn't some sort of glaring weakness to a particular weapon system, especially if it is one that is traditionally derided as unrealistic. If there is no easy weakness to take advantage of, they get uncomfortable when trying to imagine taking it down by themselves; hwaito piggu do not have a concept of 仕方がない unlike the nips.
>>
>>16145834
Because they're fat slow and stable, and a big rectangle with legs is more feasible in making than a bipedal humanoid mech

The armor in that pic is Neo-Crusader armor, which is the closest you'll see them appear 'knightly'. There is a mural in The Clone Wars which means the Mandalorians think they were knightly in some way. Then in Rebels, they have a story that a mandalorian was at one point a jedi knight. But they're pretty much as you say, mooks with plastic.

For power armor, I think some of the games like Force Unleased and a few novels.

The Dark trooper might count though.

They mostly went with pic related, bigger battle droids (from SW: Dark Empire).

What's really funny is that I saw an article this morning where Johnson was saying that if people don't like the thing about Rey's parents it may be changed in the next movie since he's not involved and Kathleen Kennedy or J J Abrams might want other things. So while they can't walk back Luke's death it wouldn't be at all surprising if the 9th Star Wars film made Rey Luke's daughter or something so as to get as close as possible.

That said, Luke's death is actually one of the least complained about aspects of the film in my experience. I hold no opinion on it, because I decided I wasn't going to bother seeing any more of the Star Wars sequel films after The Force Awakens, same as I didn't bother with the full prequel trilogy after seeing Attack of the Clones when I was a kid. I'm not a huge Star Wars fan anyway, not even of the original trilogy and I mostly got in to the franchise through the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games back in the mid 90s along with some of the EU books (especially Wraith Squadron stuff).

My experience is that Rey's heritage, the Leia thing, the hyperspace plans, Finn's plot being mostly aimless and Snoke being unceremoniously killed off are bigger sticking points than Luke being dead. Which make sense to me, since I would imagine most people assumed Luke would die in the trilogy at some point anyway, even if they were expecting it'd happen in the third with Leia dying in this one instead.
>>
>>16142618

The TIE Defender is certainly the strongest of the TIEs going off the old canon thanks to the TIE Fighter game, and is pretty cool but I think the Advanced, Intercepter, Hunter, Phantom and Droid have more sleeker and cooler designs.

If I'm not mistaken, the original AT-ATs had all forward bending legs. Maybe that looked clumsy to them so they tried to emulate a more natural animal limb configuration.

There were two options;
1. Hind legs hinge backwards and fore legs hinge forwards (dog, cat, human, etc)
2. Hind legs hinge forwards and fore legs hinge backwards (equine)
So they opted for Gorilla.
>>
>>16149432
AT-AT legs were double jointed, they could go either way, looks awkward as hell from many angles, especially with the thin profile of the legs and their narrow stance for the vehicle's height and size.
>>
>>16149436
On the plus side, the legs weren't really as scrawny as they seem from afar and could very well hold up the weight of the AT-AT considering how slowly it moved. Since it IS a slow moving walker, those thin legs would have made it harder to hit them from the front.
>>
>>16149445
The AT-AT's max speed is 60kph, it's not slow really but I guess the top speed was limited under anything that wasn't road conditions because of the high center of gravity.
