There's some new art, an interview with Nagano about Vol 14 which came out recently.

This chapter itself is a bit heavy on the fanservice. The /a/ kind. Sieg's mother tries to teach Jhon a few new moves as a knight, and has an unusual way of going about it.

Sopp does show up at the beginning, when Sieg's mother reminisces of the time she met Fatima meight Chrome Ballanche.

Wanting designs to go back to "how they used to be" without knowing what "used to be" even looks like is just a sign that the retards moaning about the new designs have no clue what the old designs were even like.

At least the people in that old chatgroup have the excuse of witnessing the first round of MH redesigns. GTM is like the third or fourth, and only fuckwads who've never touched the manga or read anything about it outside of /m/ would still be surprised at the changes, 6 years after they took place.
>>
>>16247723
You can't count L-Gaim designs as part of the continuity because you have no idea how much of the design style was dictated by his supervisors to fit their planned direction. It's not a true representation of his own style changing if the style wasn't his own in the first place.

You can clearly see a stark difference in his personal art for the mechs and the actual TV official style from the same time

>you have no idea how much of the design style was dictated by his supervisors to fit their planned direction

Yeah, because Nagano totally drew this, in an artbook featuring designs not to be sold as figures or included in the show, as made to pander to sponsor requirements. Nagano, the same guy who repeatedly got the boot in every Gundam show he worked on, conforming to producer requirements? As if.

Also, L-Gaim's art was created over 5 years before FSS was first published. The time in between that was Nagano's entire career at Sunrise. A lot of changes happened during that time.

Anyone with a clear mind can see that the designs took a massive downward spiral after the first generation of Mortar Headd. Even the once girthy bodies were transformed into lanky skeletons with large pieces of armor hanging off of them. I guess when GTM rolled around Nagano threw away any pretension he had left of the bulky designs ever having any bulk to begin with.

The manga is basically long stretches of politics and waifuing, with sexy as fuck mecha doing some stuff every now and then. The story is told non-linearly, so basically they give you like a 3000 year timeline on the first page and tehn the story jumps to wherever the fuck nagano wants. It's a decent read for the designs mainly, but don't expect a compelling story because you'll only get the first chapters in english. Watch the movie for a 1/1 adaptation of the first chapter

It's okay, you can just admit you've never actually read the manga after volume 1.
>>
>>16254449
I read until the alternate universe arc where they are knights in the past, and the dude's sword is a MH horn. CAn't remember a lot, but I rememebr my favorite stories were the one with all the tanks (i think it was sopp rescue?) and the one where they fight the MH with claws on its shoulders. What I found really weird was the stuff liek Amaterasu's mom talking to god, but god was created by amaterasu? or some shit. Also the weird alien arc, ehich apparently was after the end of the story or something?
>>
>>16254442
>I thought the Kan was Kan and A-toll were fairly late ones, so I could be wrong.

KAN and A-Toll were both introduced in 1989 or 1990. KAN Beta was the revised version for the Majestic Stand.

The most well-known designs like the Auge and Empress Flame were also from the Majestic Stand. Every new design introduced from Jagd Mirage onward is part of that lineup.

>Book 7 was realease around the mid ninties wasn't it?

That was when Jagd Mirage was introduced, so I think you're right. The Majestic Stand style took full force from Volume 8 to 12.
>>
>>16254459
>What I found really weird was the stuff liek Amaterasu's mom talking to god, but god was created by amaterasu? or some shit.

Amaterasu is God. Joker is a lesser deity, but he took mortal form as the clown Mirage Knight as a way to thank Amaterasu for willing him into existence.

>Also the weird alien arc

That was the Taika Universe, where the people evolved from cheetahs and time flows countercurrent to that of the Joker Universe. The person who greeted Laki that one time in volume 8 was Kallen, her daughter who was sent to that universe prior in KOG's head. The Taika people have to combat SATAN later on.

Volumes 10-13 are all focused on Christine V didn't they? That's why I thought the ending to 10 was so abrupt, because a lot of new younger characters were introduced, and she was the most prominent of them all.
>>
>>16254490
11-13 are focused on the events of the Majestic Stand, but Christine is given a lot of attention. 14 is smaller in scope, but it's basically a long drawn-out Gothicmade battle with a small faction from Hathuha. 15 onward (which the OP posted the most recent of) has been all about John Weinziel's (the little boy trained by Est in volume 10) journey to knighthood.

>there's the medieval aliens who get invaded by demons

That was a fairytale told to a kid on a bus before it got shot down by Bradford. They weren't aliens. The dragons and SATAN are real though.

Neither of you have been here long enough to know there were a handful of attempts by various anons to try to translate it, but they gave it because it was too challenging. >as I've read just feels like nothing but endless world building.

I feel the opposite. So much shit happens that it's hard to keep track of which universe and time we're even in. I do like how it doesn't revolve any one character though, each arc feels completely different from the one before. The GTM stuff is probably completely different in the manga than the MH too.
>>
>>16256396
>Where did you get that? The japanese volumes?

It's in his character bio and Ama mentions that he'll be out of the picture for a while during the end of that arc. We saw him as a boy in the more recent volumes, wearing shorts and all.

I think you quoted the wrong person, but FSS is not slow-paced at all. It moves like lightning between decades but not in linear order, which is why casual speedreaders get so confused whenever they touch it. I guess you could call it slow paced since it doesn't cover all 3000 years on the timeline, but that's stretching things a bit.
>>
>>16252972
I have a feeling that Nagano doesn't want it released in shitty ass tankobon size and nobody wants to do large books of anything that isn't really popular and/or short, like GitS and Girls' Last Tour. Honestly the latter is the first new large format English manga release I've seen in like 20 years.

It already is in Japan and Italy. The English versions didn't because they were a combo of both the artbooks and the manga, and the artbooks had huge pages so they kept the manga pages in the original magazine size to keep it consistent.
>>
>>16259632
>The English versions didn't because they were a combo of both the artbooks and the manga

Really now? Is that where all those crazy infodump pages came from? That would explain a lot actually.

Wouldn't it have been smarter to release the manga and artbooks separately though? Because the damn English volumes were so large, each one had to be split in halves or thirds of the originals, which made collecting them a chore.

The Japanese version is significantly larger than a typical tank.
>>
>>16259640

Wouldn't have made a lick of sense. They basically sell into the already existing market for Mobile Suits Variant-books, something that doesn't exist outside of Japan other than in the tiny ass circle of Battletech players.

>There's no guide for them anywhere in the Gunpla generals so I don't even know where to begin looking.

That's because the brunt of them aren't plastic models. I think the kit you posted is resin too.
>>
>>16259618
>It moves like lightning between decades but not in linear order, which is why casual speedreaders get so confused whenever they touch it.

Yeah, it was designed to be a monthly serial, which is how it was published in Newtype mag. Something like an anthology work with loosely connected threads rather than a long overarching story, though it has had some very long arcs. Definitely not made for the Netflix binge audience.
>>
>>16259682
>but has anyone built an FSS kit?
A handful of us, yes. The old WAVE kits are do-able if you're capable of building military plamo, with the 1/144s generally being more easy and having better parts separation than the 1/100.

The majority of designs are only available as GKs though.

>There's no guide for them anywhere in the Gunpla generals so I don't even know where to begin looking.

Try the usual japanese plamo online shops and Mandarake? Wave and Volks made/make kits.
>>
>>16259682
The recent Volks kits have been wonderful for beginners but will cost you a pretty penny.
>>
>>16259788

>>

It's best to order directly from Volks.
