***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the website from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To solve this, save your images out separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the image itself for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

***FANTASY GROUP BUILD***

Build a mecha/robot themed around a fantasy setting! This can include anything you can come up with, such as:
>A mobile suit based around a typical RPG class type (Knights, Wizards, Clerics, Bards, etc)
>A mobile suit designed to look like a fantasy creature (Dragons, merfolk, goblins, etc)
>A mobile suit used as a siege weapon
The only stipulation for your builds is no beam sabers/rifles. Firearms are allowed, as long as they make sense int he context of the build (IE, a crossbow for an archer, magic cannons for a warlock, etc).

The winner for this group build gets first pick towards two items provided by PrizeAnon! Second places gets their choice of any one item that the winner didn't choose.

Send your entries in to GunplaPlamo@gmail.com. Include a name for your entry, along with at least 5 photos of your finished kit (Also include any WIP photos you take while building)

Need an idea of what to build? Then open this image: https://i.imgur.com/wYSS53i.jpg
And get a random number from here: http://numbergenerator.org/randomnumberbetween0and99

START: 3/16/18
END: 5/31/18

Is there anywhere I can reorder gunpla parts? I opened up an HG kit, took everything out of the plastic wrapping and noticed there is one piece missing from the runner, I checked everywhere incase it fell out but to no avail, I think it likely somehow broke off when it was being packaged in the factory.

Why waste two suits I’m assuming are fully complete, unless you have extras or a very specific goal in mind? Yes, I know what kitbashing is but is this specific one related to a theme you had or was it spur of the moment? Otherwise those are two whole models that will be incomplete, I would only be one to mix spare parts or pieces I know I won’t need. Is this some Astray MSV I don’t know about?
>>
I hope they do the Aries and Taurus after the Leo. Both would go good along the rest of my flight suits.

I've got trays of extra parts and more of the same kit a few times over. The base red frame I'm using was due for a repaint cause it's one of the first astray's I got so It's getting paint stripped and reused. Not to mention that the gradeless goldframe astray that already exists is a huge piece of shit anyway so I'm not too concerned about it. Ive got a spare blitz as well so I don't mind borrowing an arm for a kit I'll end up using for another custom. My desk looks like a butcher shop with all the spare body parts.

>>16428365
I'm gonna redo the pack as well since the gradeless version is just a block shape with no definition or flexibility like the actual design.

Before making a definite connection on anything use blutac/poster tack to just make a connection with that and see a rough fit of how it’ll look without doing any real work. That way you can test several different things fast and easily. It won’t harm anything.

There's the Limited Model, which could be chopped up to work. Cutting off the joint parts from the legs/arms (the joints aren't really joints, they're just shaped bits at the end of the limb which house polycaps) and putting in some decent joints, plus a good coat of paint would do wonders.

Honestly, the upfront costs are the killers, but they're totally worth it. Save up a bit, get a decent compressor (I can recommend the Cotech one; cheap (about £60), good pressure range, fairly compact too if space is an issue) and a decent airbrush (do NOT get a cheap Chinky one, as tempting as it is, you'll only end up going through a dozen of the fuckers if you're too stingy to plump for one nice one), and get a respirator. Spray booths are a luxury, if you can't afford it you could get away with painting by an open window so long as you're careful. You'll spend about £200-£250 for that stuff. Stop buying new kits, put that money to one side for a while, work on your backlog in the mean time. Paints are fairly cheap, and if you're not an idiot about it they'll last a while.

I have small problem and I would be very glad if someone could help me.
I am preparing myself to paint Mk-II MG and today I've checked couple of paints I had on my shelf. Before painting whole model, I will be painting his weapons and shield to check how colors feels like. My problem is what color should I use on those "blue-greyish" parts? You can see those colors on the pic(it's not mine, but almost the same) Most of parts in Mk-II have that color and I just have no idea what would look good on him. I feel I should use mix of grey with something, but can't decide, not to mention if I use aerograph, it would look different than if I use 10 layers with brush.

Getting a spray can in the main color you want and then a couple of paints for brushing on details is the ideal way to start painting.

Pro-L, lightweight, has a lot of lightweight filler. Pain in the ass to shape because of those fibers, but once it's cured its very nice to carve.

Pro-H has no filler is very creamy to shape but heavy. Also carves and sands nicely.

Finished the GM Command today. This was a fun quick project for over the weekend done with the intention of no paint (Asides from the vulcans on the head and the camera on the gun), everything else is just top coat and some Tamiya weathering pastel, and a whole lot of sanding. Gonna go back some time and redo the gun though, it feels a bit off.

Paint looks nice from what I've seen, however, you could use a bit more practice with the weathering pastels. Not too shabby since you didn't seem to overdo it, but it's just not cohesive since it looks like you haphazardly applied it in some places.

The places I would say looked the best are the back skirts and the shoulder edges. However, I'm pretty sure you haven't posted any other builds with weathering, so keep hacking at it, you'll get better in no time.

The only other weathered kit I've made was this guy, I think it worked better on here since I had more intended direction besides "throw as much of this as I can on here before it becomes too nasty". The legs easily gave me the most trouble on the GM.

Oof. I just tried sanding my own model down partially to remove the nubs but also because I wanted to dull the shine on the plastic. I may have been overzealous and the grits I used were 200 and 400 because those were the lowest I could find at my hardware store. If I manage to find some higher grit paper, is this still salvagable? If I were paint it as is, will it help to cover up the flawed sanding? Looking at Dalong's review, there aren't any noticeable casting problems, so it may have just been the 90s printings that were fucked. YMMV.

I haven't touched gunpla or modeling since I finished college but decided to try getting back into it.

My first two kits in 7 years or so.

How do I take pictures of my stuff well? I know "natural lighting is the best lighting" but how do you refine those pictures without photoshop? Certain camera settings?

it kind of looks like a charcoal drawing, that's sorta neat

it looks like ass.

Are you kidding? That’s the best part about waterslides. Since they don’t set as soon as they touch the surface of the kit you’ve got a little wiggle room to position them just right. Unlike stickers where the adhesive gives you zero room to position things without peeling it up completely and losing some adhesiveness in the process and leaving shit behind on the kit. And then the end result looks a thousand times better than any shitty sticker.
The only thing that comes close to rivaling waterslides is dry transfers, but those are way easier to fuck up in my experience.
>>
>>16433707
I prefer dry transfers. They're easier, take half the time and look just as good in my opinion. And mostly importantly, I find them harder to fuck up
>>
>>16433600
Check the other videos on his channel, he paints dinosaur toys and models properly with actual thinned paints and whatnot
He's just taking the piss on gunplafags and going by how the comments are 50% raging and 50% ass-patting, I'd say he got what he wanted
>>
>>16433600
I actually liked what was going on until he actually started painting.
>>
>>16433707
>>16433756
The other issue is I work on straight builds at work, so waterslides tend to be inconvenient. I suppose I could do the decals at home after assembly, but I hate getting into a kit where the slides are in a hard to reach corner then fuck myself because I did full assembly before placing the decal

Do I need to prime before using Tamiya color spraycans?
I see that they're lacquer, and I'm used to using Acrylics mostly.
>>
>>16433919
Like any fully transforming kit, it focuses so much on the gimmick of transformation that it looks like complete ass in all 3 forms.

Damn, guess I'll pick up the Hasegawa kit instead. It looks like decal hell so it's right up my alley.
>>
>>16434091
You can use lacquer with acryllics, technically. You just have to be VERY careful

Always give the acryllic several days to fully set, use VERY thin layers with the lacquer at a time, let each coat set before the next

I just love when I am in the middle of cutting/sanding/painting/decaling/assembling 2 kits and a new package comes in... give me time damn it! That package was suppose to come in next 1.5-2 weeks, not now! I need to finish first what I started! Two more packages will come in next 2-3 weeks and another model is already planned for May. Fuuuuuuuuuu, I wish I had more time!

3 things anon:

1. Don't be that guy please.
>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the website from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To solve this, save your images out separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the image itself for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

2. Remove your nubs BEFORE assembly, it's much easier, you'll damage your kit alot less and it just helps the whole thing look better.

3. Use higher grit sandpaper to smooth out the over sanded areas. The lower the grits are only used to get rid of the nub, you use higher grits (1000 or even 2000) to actually smoothen the surface)
