Outer Hayven is a roleplaying community based in a town in Equestria. Some kind of mysterious magical incident caused a great deal of humans to end up in Equestria in pony, zebra, and griffon bodies. The player characters are these humans, and for one reason or another, ended up in the frontier town of Outer Hayven.
Essentially, Outer Hayven is a world with the purpose of giving characters a means to interact with one another over time. An important part is that characters have a consistent period of growth across all players, as time moves forward for everyone at the same rate. One could consider Outer Hayven an anthology of plotlines, where your actions on quests and even casual RP can have long-standing consequences within other quests, or other characters. Stories, interesting events, and character development reign supreme over system faggotry and loot hoarding. If you can’t care enough to help tell a story, don’t bother.
The heart of Outer Hayven’s gameplay are quests. Anyone can run a quest and anyone can become a GM. GMs are very important in Outer Hayven. They have a great deal of freedom to decide how the game will go. We always need more GMs, and if you want to get your foot in the door in regards to GMing, there’s no better place to start than Outer Hayven due to our simple systems and requirements. We have lots of experienced GMs to help new ones out, and we’ve made it as easy as possible to gm. You can run whatever system you wish, as well. No need to spend hours learning a new system with shitty homebrew rules.
After you get done with your adventure, give your horse/bird a nice sip at the bar or a dunk at the spa, or even a walk around the docks. Your character will meet new people and make new friends, and so, too, will you.

And for god’s sake, don’t roleplay in the thread, you fucking shitters!

Our systems are dynamic. People can use whatever system they want, but we do have on overarching character development tracker which is based on skill over time, with supplements from quests. It acts as a common metric of character growth. Most GMs use this in lieu of traditional character sheets on their quests, but it isn’t required.
We aren’t a single quest. We aren’t play-by-post. We aren’t casual-only. We aren’t edgy; we stick to the show for the most part, but you have freedom within reason.
We do everything in Discord. When you join the Discord, have a look through our docs in the ‘#readme’ channel and look through the pinned posts in ‘#gameandlorediscussion’ to find recent developments. Come and lurk for a bit if you want to see how we do things. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We don’t mind newfags.
Post happenings, recent developments, quest summaries, and rumors in the thread. Post writefaggotry and artfaggotry, too.

We missed Oktoberfest. Next big thing would be Hearth's Warming Eve. The weather team players need to figure out what can be done with making it snow in the swamp, or everyone can just fuck off to Manehatten or another town.

Equestrian tax collectors coming to town demanding to be paid in candies and baked goods. They're not tax collectors at all, but a band of natives that are too lazy to do any real work.

Any activity at all, really. It's been slow thanks to IRL obligations.
>>

>>
>>31395792
>Equestrian tax collectors coming to town demanding to be paid in candies and baked goods.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION
>>
>>31395792
Hypothetically speaking, since we have pegasi who are getting more skilled in weather manipulation and Unity Co-Op schools for weather magic, we could make our environment more temperate and slowly work on transitioning it from a humid jungle to a more temperate climate with actual seasons, couldn't we?

Granted, I'm not certain how much we can control climate long-term, but we at least know ponies can settle a spot and control the elements to make it hospitable to some degree. With enough persistence and possibly some support from a pegasus city, we could have snow and seasons other than "wet" and "hot"
>>
>>31396115
I believe Lucien once said that the area used to be a temperate forest with seasons, until the Forbidden Jungle spread from the south. If you look at the official map, that makes sense, as the jungle turns into a forest the further north you go.

It might be cool to try and somehow reverse that process.
>>
>>31396304
Well get to it! Gather up some pegasai and break the weather. I mean fix it.
>>
>>31396304
Sounds like something good project for the town to work on as a group.
>Earth ponies help bring back the more deciduous trees and help them prosper
>Pegasi assist in operating the temperature and weather
>unicorns counteract the magic energy of the forbidden forest trying to come back in

Push back the jungle, let the forest come back in, and in the meantime bring in some clouds and encourage more variance in temperature and humidity. Though we don't have to make the winters TOO cold, but some idyllic levels of snow as it's seasonal would be welcome around Christmastime.
>>
>>31396304
Speaking of Lucien, we now know his father was a famous pirate.

No doubt this Caelina has some connection to him, but is it his mother or sister?

Either way, the claim that Fine doesn't get upset OOC /or/ IC is wrong. IC his RP visibly decays and he resorts to internet acronyms like 'idk', and OOC he continues fighting for whatever argument his character was fighting for instead of letting it die when it ended IC. That's not a very calm person to me.

Riversong does a way better job of being calm both IC and OOC, plus he's a pretty decent horse with a pretty neat backstory.

Guess the best that can be done is to try and get different characters involved in quests, and let people know that GMs are trying to keep quests open. Maybe some of the characters who feel like they're constantly on quests hold off for a bit when a quest is announced, let people who aren't on all the time sign up; but like people here have said, no matter what anyone does some people will get butthurt over their imagined slights.

The shitty thing about that is it messes with the plot that the GM may create. Not all GMs do this, but some quests have continuing stories with certain players involved and it wouldn't make sense for random players just to pop in on them without knowing the context of the situation IC. But it's not like some players consider this a factor. Simply just care about becoming more powerful and getting items.
>>
>>31434226
I'm not saying that a quest chain should be constantly rotating characters, but when a new branch is added, like with Eve adding pirates, that's a good opportunity to also add new players
>>
>>31434786
so? what if eve is happy with the old players he already had? just because there's an opportunity doesn't mean it has to be taken.
>>
>>31434836
If Eve doesn't want to then that's fine, it's his prerogative as a GM, and I think he did actually take the chance to add some new people. I was just pointing out to GMs that there are occasions to consider bringing more characters in if they want to offer that.
>>
>>31434836
Eve specified in the advertisement that the SelkieQuest S2 intro is a perfect time for new people to join in.

I bet they're really humble too. Too bad i don't know who drew these, because i feel like the future would be brighter if i did.

People like this artist are probably one in a generation, i only hope the rest of us can be a pale reflection. What a beautiful future that could be.

1. Weathervane, softest and best smelling butt from being in the spa.
2. Eve, her butt will get you high if you stick your face between those buns and inhale.
3. Moire, the best butt to sit on your face and make you like it.
4. Daybreak, if you don't want to spank her butt until she cries uncle there's something wrong with you.
5. Dandelion, cute butt. Her tail makes examining her butt really easy.

-1. Ceres, the butt may be thicc but it's still attached to a zebra.
-2. Moonshine, butt what butt? Has potential if she gets meat on her bones.
-3. Ruby, flabby pancake butt from sitting in the library all day.
-4. Pepper Shaker. Pirates don't shower. Smelly butt.
-5. Tea Time, the massive stick up her butt means you can't see it at all.

Welp here goes!

>Trotting alone in the jungles of Sourthern Equestria you tighten your grip on the machete's handle hacking your way through the underbrush.
>You had heard rumors about a digsit that had been recently uncovered then abandoned due to the hostility of the natives.
>Despite that set back you had noticed the archealogist's were unwilling to let the dig site go, the guard were being summoned leaving you with little time to sneak in and make off with any possible treasures inside.
>THUNK
>Grunting in frustration you pull on the machete making it creak from the thick branch you had embedded it in.
>With both hooves you shift your grip using a hindleg to hold against the branch before tugging your machete free!
>You used too much force as it sends you falling backwards with a grunt and wet splat of mud on your rump.
>Flailing around you manage to keep your machete from hitting yourself before sighing as you sheath it regaining your hooves.
>Breaking the stubborn branch for blocking your path you soon find the digsite layered out before you.
>>
>>31498135
>It's breath taking in scope, paved roads choked with jungle creep and vines leading to staggered plazas that sit at the base of trio of blocky pyramid structures two of which were the lesser in size while the third stood proud to the heavens almost as if in defiance of the jungle that choked the city scape around it.
>Keeping an eye out for the 'natives' as the archelogists had called them you step onto the road leading towards the structures.
>Exposed as you are on the streets you hurry along the road towards the nearest structures which look like squat hovels made of stone compared to the sheer size of the pyramids that dominate the skyline.
>Hooves clopping on the stone echoe strangely through the air as you can feel something or someone watching your movements.
>It soon becomes too much as you have to enter one of the hovels simply to regain your nerve, its as you rest inside the house do you realize how sweaty you have become.
>Fumbling for your waterskin you soon drink deeply before putting it away feeling marginally better than before-
>What was that?
>>
>>31498142
>Peering into the gloom of the poorly lit house you can just make out two doorways leading deeper into the building.
>You squint your eyes in the gloom as you step forward when you are surprised at a wild screech!
>Swearing at the loud noise you are caught off guard as the thing swarms you claws gleaming in the stray sunbeams from the outside.
>Rearing back you let out a grunt as the claws scrap against the sea shell armor of your breastplate.
>It's fast!
>Too fast!
>You let out a yell hoping to scare it away, while frantically pulling your sword free swiping at the blurry form.
>A thud runs up your foreleg as the small form is sent flying into the wall to slam against the stone making dust briefly fall to the ground.

>Did you kill it?
>Creeping closer you have a better view of what attacked you, a small pool of blood starting to spread around it.
>It looks remarkably like those silly comics about kobolds, the small lizard like ones not the rats though.
>You prod the body a few times with your sword before letting out a sigh of relief.
>Looks dead, though you now notice it has some leather pouches on it.
>Reaching down with a hoof you grab it's shoul-HOLY SUNBOTTOMED CHEEKS!
>Pain flares up hot and bright through your hoof as the damned thing bites down on your leg drawing blood!
>With your other hoof you draw back your blade and smash the hilt on top its head!
>>
>>31498149
>You hiss in pain as that made it chomp down harder on your but you don't relent, you smash it's skull again and again.
>A crack comes from the things skull before it's eyes roll up in it's head.
>The pressure on your hoove relents ever so slightly.
>Its enough for you to leverage your hoof free from it's jaws making it drop with a thud of dead weight.
>Blood bright and red wells up from the bite as you cradle your wounded limb close.
>Eyes darting from the bite to the kobold you feel a fury overcome you.
>Grasping your sword with your good hoof you hobble over and plunge the blade deep into the lizard.
>It jerks at the intrusion of water smithed steel before falling back down limp.

>The pain starts to become too much as it throbs intensely from your hoof.
>Slumping down you reach back into your saddle bag before pulling out a roll of bandages and some poultice to cleanse the wound.
>Celestia's left teat this will suck.
>Holding in a yell you clean the wound with some water from your skin before adding the poultice.
>It burns!
>Your hindlegs kick out in pain before the burn fades slowly as the bite now dully throbs instead of the insistant pain from before.
>Carefully you wrap the bandage around your hoof noting to yourself to invest in booties the next time you hit another payday.
>Booties with metal bits to make stupid lizards bite onto them and hurt themselves instead of your poor hoof!
>>
>>31498157
>Gritting your teeth you stand up leaning against a stone couch.
>Did the civilization that make this place not get the idea of soft things or what?
>Gently you press your bandaged hoof on the ground holding in a breath.
>The bandage holds true and the wound doesn't flare in agony so thats good.
>Now about that kobold...
>Kicking the corpse over you rummage through it's pouches pulling out a few dried herbs, some jerky like meat and some strange metal cylinder of bronze.
>Turning the inscribed cylinder over in your hoof you can't really find much use for it aside from a decorative piece.
>Though there was one thing that comes to mind at seeing the inscriptions upon it, you'd only need a fire and some type of thick parchment.
>For now you simply pocket the cylinder and the jerky leaving the herbs behind.

>Seeing little else that will keep your attention in here you look outside to the temple city.
>Still the same plaza dominated with jungle growth and towering pyramids over the skyline.
>Lots of shadows however that could hold all sorts of nastiness in them.
>Well you don't get rich by being a coward so deep breath and here we go!
>Stepping out from the hovel you look up towards the nearest pyramid steps formed into the side leading to the top of the structure.
>You can just see the entrance that leads deeper into the pyramid itself before hearing a scuttle of claws on stone nearby.
>Swallowing down your fear you start to run towards the pyramid slowly climbing the stairs, who made them so obtusly big!?
>As you slowly ascend upwards you hear a cry of outrage from below!
>Glancing back you can see a larger group of those kobolds starting to ascend after you!
>There must be at least eight or ten of them!
>You focus back on climbing the pyramid no longer complaining about the step's size, it's slowing the kobolds as much as yourself.
>Nevermind that once you reach the top your going to be sur-
>Nope gotta get to the top first then worry about that!
>>
>>31498172
>Faster than you'd like you soon reach the top of the pyramid and draw your sword sweating buckets as you ready yourself for the melee.
>Starring them down from your vantage point you can feel the wind blow a cool breeze from how high up you are as they stopped?
>Yes, they'd stopped about twenty steps away from the top crouched down and hissing at you.
>You have the feeling they are calling you all manner of nasty things, but they don't approach you.
>Cultural taboo perhaps?
>Looking over your shoulder you check to make sure there isn't anything behind you.
>No, nothing aside from an elaborate entrance leading inwards towards the pyramid with various depictions of lizard creatures in different scenes doing battle against strange creatures made of flesh.
>Disturbing still, looking at the alternative of more kobolds trying to eat you, you have only one choice.

>Sheathing your sword you stick your tongue out at the kobolds in a fit of pique before walking down the stairs into the pyramid.
>Grabbing one of the torches from its sconces you light the flame with some flint.
>In the dim ruddy glow of the torch you descend step by step cursing the large beings that required such huge strides.
>Soon you come across a long hall of at least five ponies wide leading ahead into darkness.
>Taking out a piece of chalk from your bag you mark an x on the wall before continuing on.
>Swallowing down your fear you carefully walk forward holding the torch easily in your bandaged hoof.
>The echoing clop of hoof on stone is creepy you'll admit but hopefully you'll be able to find a way out easily enough.
>Coming to an intersection you soon see three different paths before you, each having a different glyph of somesort or another though you can't read them.
>Unsure of which to take you start a simple ryhme to choose.
"Eenie, meanie, minie..."
>Landing on the far right tunnel you leave an x under the glyph before going through.
>>
>>31498178
>On the walls you can see more strange scenes of venerated beings that aren't lizards, more like formless energy flying through the stars.
>Beneath them all are more lizards seeming to worship the creatures, though as you continue onwards you see that there are more stairs interupting your walk.
>Following down the stairs you pauses taking in the large chamber before you.
>You can see braziers long forgotten and dry that follow the path, though on each side you can see an abyss leading to a squishy end no doubt.
>Walking slowly forward your ears twitching as you listen for the faintest of whispers in case of traps.
>Unfortunatly there is no easy to see stones that are different from each other so you stick to a stright line hoping for the best.
>It's when you feel a stone give underneath you that you know you're in trouble.

>Looking wildly around for the trap you tense ready to leap.
>Moments pass.
>Nothing.
>The trap mechanism must have failed over the years then.
>You start to take a step when you are thrown to the ground with a crack!

>You cannot even scream as the blow stole your breath.
>What it doesn't steal is your limbs as you throw yourself to the stones holding tight to the edge.
>The torch that had served you so well falls to the way side into the deep abyss far below.
>Coughing you manage to hang on to see the torch bounce once, twice before coming to a stop illuminating the skulls of many other victums with spikes on the floor.
>Pale you strain slowly pulling yourself up just enough to lay on the side of the walkway hoof to your side as you feel for the damage.
>A large bruise no doubt, and the shell making up your breastplate is dented now.
>Still that could have been your ribs if you hadn't been wearing your armor.
>You hear the slightest of clicks to your left near the center of the path.
>Wonderful the traps reset themselves.

>In the dark you fumble around for your spare torch dipping a touch of oil upon the end before sparking a new torch.
>You can't even see what the hell had hit you, though you imagine it might have been a beam of wood it was heavy enough for it.
>Staying near the edge of the path you slowly walk towards the end of the path, hopefully whoever built the place wouldn't put traps near the light source that'd be crazy.
>It's as you finally come to the end of the path do you see a raised platform inscrubed with even more runes and sigils that continue upwards for many a step before an altar that is laid bare.
>Stepping closer towards the alter you find that the runes upon each step illuminate with a teal blue color.
>You jerk back ready for another trap, only the cool blue light coming from the runes on the steps.
>Nervous you step up again, then again each step illuminating the room as you approach the alter.
>Even being a nonmagical pony of Earth you can feel the magic build ever so steadily in the room.
>It's so thick you can almost taste it, remarkably it tastes much like ozone.

>You stand before the altar now the culmination of the entire ritual room no doubt, yet it is plain bare stone with only a small cylinder hole...
>No that would be far to conveinent.
>Why would you even have a random kobold have it in the first place!?
>Baffled you reach back and retrieve the cylinder of bronze seeing how some of the runes upon it match with the ones that glow so brightly.
>Placing the cylinder into the hole you feel it click into place before it slowly starts to spin counter clockwise.
>You stagger as the wild winds of magic around you are suddenly rushing past you into the altar.
>Holding tight to the stone altar you feel a rumble beneath you before the platform begins to descend down!
>>
>>31498197

>You contemplate whether or not to jump off the elevator but stay your intuition giving you cause to wait.
>Tension turns to boredom as the elevator continues its ever so slow decent down.
>You begin to understand why elevator music was invented back home at least.
>However before you start to try messing with the altar to make the elevator move faster the enclosed shaft opens up to reveal another chamber much more grandiose in scope than the one above.
>Statues dominate the room depicting different lizards of one type or another, some are even serpants though each statue appears to be damaged with long running cracks in each statue.
>Grinding to a halt the stone elevator finishes its decent and the altar releases the bronze tube whose runes now glow a gentle teal in your hoof.

>Stepping off from the elevator you slowly continue to explore the chamber the hexagonal floor polished almost to a mirror sheen as you walk.
>Just ahead you can hear the chitter of something on the stone.
>Drawing your sword you let the torch fall to the ground as you stand on your hind legs to grip your sword better.
>From the small circle of light around you, you can hear the shuffle of claws on stone once again as it circles you.
>Keeping your stance you wait ready for the thing to come from the darkness.

>You are not kept waiting.

>Springing from the darkness is a chitinous mass of teeth, claws and legs as it rushes at you!
>Shouting you twist to the side laying your blade out letting it cut itself on your blade.
>Thick green ichor falls onto the polished stone as it chitters in pain and anger.
>>
>>31498209
>Not deterred you hold steady as it darts forward you jump back only for it's lower half trips you up as your ran over by the huge bug.
>Rolling with the force you spring back to your hooves once more and strike with your sword!
>It shrieks as you manage to plunge your blade under its plates for the soft innards.
>Even as it's wounded the beast doesn't give up as its bulk pushes you back jerking your sword free from your hooves!
>Knocked back again you nearly singe our tail on your torch as you land.

>Tucking your tail close you roll quickly away as the centipede slams its body on you.
>Dust flies up from the blow as you squint trying to find your sword where it soon glints in the torchlight.
>Sprinting you leap over the bug's lower half and slide beneath another portion of it's segmented half as it recovers from the body slam.
>You leap up tugging your sword free from it's body.
>Rolling you turn about and see it diving right towards you!
>You have no time to dodge!
>A clang echoes in the darkness.
>It's teeth press down on you as your blade blocks it's teeth.
>You can feel yourself slide back from the sheer force behind it.
>Have to break the stalemate!
>It pulls back trying to jerk your sword away from you in its teeth, but you take the chance and twist!
>>
>>31498218
>Green ichor spills from its shattered teeth as you draw back.
>It gurgles at you around a bleeding gumline and you wince at the horrid sight.
>The centiepede rushes forward intent on squishing you with its weight again.
>You however have had enough of it's shit.
>Stepping to the side you bring down your sword with an over head chop as it darts past you.
>The body keeps going and whirls about to face you teeth chittering.
>Did you not hit it?
>You swore you had!
>It stays coiled ready for another attack still as stone waiting for you to no doubt lower your guard.
>You hold your blade up ready, you would not go queitly into this darkness without a fight damn it!
>The centipede has yet to move.
>Wait there!
>It lowers its head at a glacial pace, wait it's neck can't lower that far can it?
>>
>>31498223
>With a liquid splat you can only watch as it's head falls to the ground with more of its life blood scattered around it.
>Oh.
>You did hit it.
>The adrenaline rush that had been carrying you aloft during the fight fades then leaving you shaking in place.
>Feeling the muscles in your hindlegs complain you stand on all four once more.
>That was...
>That was intense.
>Slowly you calm down the shaking in your limbs as you clean your blade off from the ichor sheathing it once you were done.
>This was most likely a scavenger, couldn't have been others like it with how large it was.
>Still you lean down to grab your torch to lift up into the air for more light, couldn't hurt to be careful.
>Off the corpse you find little of use, maybe if you had some skill in skinning beasts for their hides, but ugh, the memory of a possible future makes you ill at the thought.
>No.
>You're not going to turn out like that.
>No matter what prophetic mirrors have to say about it!
>Walking through the room you follow the line of statues towards what you can only see as a vault.
>At least thats what the huge ass door gives the impression of, made of granite with carved iconography of more lizards.
>Only these lizards must be distant kin of the ones outside, huge hulking brutes armored lightly with what you think are bark or metal wielding large polearms line the door.
>>
>>31498228
>Coming closer to the door you can see a hole which would fit the bronze tube in your bags.
>The hole would slot into a carving of some squat fat toad in the middle of it's forehead as a matter of fact.
>It worked for the elevator, can't hurt not to try at least.
>Sliding the tube into the hole you watch as it sinks into the stone before the magic channels through the door.
>The toad's eyes light up in the same teal color of light staring stright at you as if scouring your soul.
>You start to get nervous as the door remains closed.
>You begin to worry when the light from the toad turns an angry baleful red.
>Its when the carvings on the statue start to move do you decide to cut your losses.
>Reaching up you tug on the bronze clyinder only finding it stuck fast to the toad's head!
"Come on you fat little toad, gimme back my key!"
>You use both hooves to tug on the key with all your might before there is a click.
>Falling back from the sudden release you land on your rump again.
>Checking back with the door you let out a sigh of relief as the door's gaurdians return to the door.

>Now why did the key work for the elevator, but not the door...
>A closer look at the key in your hoof and you find that only the top runes are glowing with the teal light.
>Could it be a security feature, the more runes that are alight the more places that can be accessed?
>It's the best theory you can come up with for now.
>Maybe if you check for more of those altars you'll get more access to the pyramid?
>Standing back up you go to look over the rest of the room finding two doors and an arch way on the same wall.
>Peeking down the archway you find that there is a door and then it goes off down a tunnel.
>Trying the door in the archway you find it's locked tight, seeing a hole near the door knob you try the key.
>It glows breifly before the door opens and the key slides out.

>>
>>31500274
Yeah, pretty much. It's still got a lot of lingering issues and people just don't know how to let their grudges go, but it's kinda better. We even got rid of the pedophile 4C admin.
>>
>>31500274

On that note about what I said in >>31500285, I'd say Outer Hayven's definitely an improvement from 4C.

There are a few autists who try to force people to conform to their ideas, the admins tend to act very questionably, and there's a lot of petty OOC drama... But speaking from the heart, as a player, it's worth putting up with that crap to actually play the game. OH is a diamond in the rough, and while things could be much better, it's not a bad place.

>>
Never used to believe in any of the conspiracies that make their rounds around here, but as of late I'm just finding myself wholeheartedly disillusioned with the way things are going and being run.
I thought for sure that the game was dying for a couple weeks not too long ago. We were down to essentially 2 GMs running questlines of any scope, and a few one shots popping up. Out of 18 GMs, we had only a couple running things and everyone else was just either busy or not doing it.
Since finals are over for most we've been experiencing a kind of renaissance and I'm glad to have been proven wrong, but it doesn't mean we can get complacent and continue to ignore issues. In thread shitposting can only do so much if you actually have a probelm. Don't hesitate to bring stuff up that you consider an issue. We'll all be better for it in the end, and nobody will get their feelings hurt over anonymous crackerjacking on 4chan
>>
>>31500366
Griff was banned for being a disagreeable cunt and refusing to even work with the comms. Tea didn't help the situation at the end at all but the blame can't all be layed at his feet.
>>
>>31500397
Speaking of BIG concerns, why the hell is there so much favoritism with Fine?
Why is he the only player to recieve a non-standard starter kit?
Why is it every other player gets money from their buisness based on how much money they put into it, but he gets to pull a bunch of numbers out of his ass based on what he would have paid for his buisness of he'd actually paid for it?
Why is he the only GM that runs self-centric quests that benefit him more than any of his players?
>>

I've typed up some stuff in the Discord to try and address your concerns. Though if I didn't, or in the future you or someone else wants to discuss something with me I'd prefer it be done through there. Heck, if you want to address your concerns anonymously make up a throwaway account and PM me. If there are people who have problems with how I do things I'd like to help them understand my reasons as well as look for things that I might have to change in the future. I don't think that the thread is the right place for that though, since it's supposed to lay out our community for people who might want to join in adventures. From what I've seen the people who post slanderous statements in the thread are part of a minority and the rest of the community is having a lot of fun. That should be the side represented here.

I see this. There are certain somebodies who seem to always be disappointed about things. The majority have no issue with anyone. I never see any hate against the admins outside of the thread, either.
Funny thing, that... You don't see facts when people complain about admins. Just vague complaints.

I'm Torch. I had the idea a few months ago and I went to Ruin/Doug to talk with him, and we brainstormed some variations for it. We finally got the chance to enact the default plan recently, using it to blow up a mansion of a mobster so we could find the mobster and interrogate him to find out where these evil, magical coins are being produced.

>Sundown, Peyote, Whiskeyjack, Kaijin, Doug Hole, Moonshine Melody and I, Torchlight, gather together at the docks of Outer Hayven to go to Baltimare.

>Our previous adventures led us to the Norwegian bar to speak with an informant from a biker gang.

>We get the information we need, then we skedaddle to go to a mansion owned by the mobster Pin Stripes.

>We begin infiltrating the mansion; Melody and I use sound magic to silence the guards, then Peyote, Whiskeyjack, and Sundown take them out.

>We get past a chain fence after I use a warhammer to smash the lock open, and we're left trying to figure out how to get past a door that's been barred from the inside.

>Sundown tries to breathe some kind of breath attack on the door to open it up with Melody using magic to keep it silent, but he ends up fucking up and tips the guards off.

>Melody tells Sundown to get away from the door, and while he wonders why he needs to, he does so.

>A gigantic boulder whizzes past Sundown's head, smashing the barred door open.

>Peyote and Whiskeyjack run in, getting ready to tangle with some guards when everyone can hear Doug Hole's voice, from the few airholes he poked into the boulder.

"ALLAHU AKBAAAAR!"

>Doug Hole rolls Discipline of Nature to explode the rock.
>31.
>This gigantic boulder explodes, sending rock pieces fly everywhere. Peyote barely manages to duck for cover, and Melody protects Whiskeyjack with a magical barrier.

>The entire front half of the mansion is almost completely obliterated in the blast. Everybody is left disoriented and confused.

>Except for two.
>>
>>31513039
>Most of the guards flee the mansion; like they'd get paid enough to even try to fight us.

>Whiskeyjack and Kaijin fend off some of the stragglers, Melody quickdraws her revolver and shoots a guard before running with Sundown, Doug, Peyote and I to find Pin Stripes.

>He's hiding a safe room, the door and the walls made of six inch steel.

>Sundown and I begin to burn through the door using breath/magic respectively while Doug uses his stone magic to bend the door open.

>Melody and Peyote fight off a few more guards that come down the hall, taking them out with ease.

>When there's one inch of steel left on the door, Peyote punches the door so hard it falls down and we pull Pin Stripes out to get our hard-earned information.

At the end of the day, the mafia used their connections to cover the incident up. The Equestrian Times claims there was a party cannon prank gone awry in a noticeable estate. They even showed a nice little aerial photo with confetti and streamers.

All of the systems we have in place were and are community created and driven, and if the community brings an interesting idea forward it ain't right to just shoot it down imo without at least exploring the idea a bit.
Besides, it could just be one facet of the rituals skill.
>>
>>31525320
You're right. Isn't she abusing her power as a commissar to have denied the system? I thought they weren't supposed to be a meta council. It's shitty to see the same problems from 4c coming back again.
>>
>>31525340
well you can blame Stray he's the one that told Bit not to continue with rituals in the first place and that's why they were never finished
I don't like Dandy but give credit where credit is due ya know.
>>
>>31525349
Well, not to trash Bit (seriously, props to anyone who puts contributions to this game forward. Yes, even Fine.), but in comparison to Bittersweet's idea it was kinda lackluster. I really liked the creative flexibility of the whole runic system.
>>
>>31525349
Stray isn't a commie anymore, so bringing him up is irrelevant. Quit trying to derail the conversation.
Commissars shouldn't have the power to halt system development full stop. If the community wants something they need to listen to us not the other way around. They don't seem to realize we can make our own discord if they keep being shitheads.
>>
>>31525340
You didn't read what was said. It wasn't denied.
>>31525320
It wasn't shot down. There was valid criticism from several people and Bittersweet stopped talking about it.
>>
What Dandy said boiled down to
>hey nigga you should lurk more
>you haven't read the other magic systems? you should do that first
Srsly she wasn't being a nazi, what the fuck?
>>
The rune idea is interesting. There are a couple reasons why it would need to be looked at further before including it. One being how it isn't really ritual magic, it is (like gems) some other system. It should also be examined in the lens of how it relates to the show world, one reason that rituals feels weird is since it doesn't really exist in the show. The rune idea is the same.
To compound this, the system ended up doing things that other systems already do, but cutting out limits with those systems. This is likely because Bittersweet has done hardly any to before going to design the system. Playing the game, finding where there are gaps and then thinking about how they should be filled is an important part of designing a system for Hayven.
I agree that the system made is creative and looks like a lot of fun. I don't think that that's enough though. There are questions with game balance and clutter to consider too. If systems are going to keep getting added and they overlap this much we should probably start removing ones that aren't used and are weaker than a system that makes them redundant.
>>
>>31525465
What a surprise. Fine shilling for Dandy and covering her ass. We get it, you want to be a commissar.
Nothing you said in your post should be taken into consideration. If we looked at OH through the lens of the show whatever the fuck that means nothing would be canon. Why do you think being creative and coming up with something NEW and original is bad? Are you only against the idea since you didn't come up with it?
>>
>>31525586
I think there were enough reasons outlined in my post to show why this particular thing should be thought through more. If you took the time to read and consider, nothing I said here condemned the system in question to never being a thing. What Dandelion said yesterday she also made sure to note wasn't an outright no.
What I mean when I say look at OH through the lens of the show is that it should feel easy enough to explain in the show world. I've said often that OH isn't dictated by the show, it's inspired by it and my mind has not changed on that issue.
As always I welcome people bringing things up and discussing my reasoning on things with me.

there are one or two people who always seem to be aware of some kind of conspiracy or favoritism or other somesuch skullduggery going on
someone who seems to easily hold hatred of others for long periods of time and always seems to make the worst of whatever anyone says
I'm glad they're cowardly enough to never leech much of that into the discord. you only see it from time to time. just enough to have an idea as to who it might be

The day Fine becomes commissar is the day I tell everyone my address and we can all have a big ol' shitposter party at my house
>>
>>31527522
It wouldn't be so bad if there was a second opposing vote to be added to the commissariat alongside him, maybe Fine/Eve.

That way the balance is more or less maintained.
>>
>>31527547
Yeah, there should be more commissars added for balance! It's only right that we should be able to vote for them as well, after all, shouldn't they reflect the values of the community?
It would also be a great idea if they rotated in and out too. That way none of them can have a monopoly on the game and the popular players can't have a stranglehold on game development.
Maybe they should be given a more democratic name to reflect that too. Commissars is too authoritarian.
How about a...
META COUNCIL
>>
>>31527547
Then the commissariat would essentially be the United States Congress, doing nothing except in the most extreme circumstances. Huh, that's not too bad actually
>>
>>31527565
nigga this shit of being scared of stuff from 4c just because it was from 4c is why oh is suffering. 4c ptsd and everyone's fucking inability to let go of their petty fucking autistic rivalries is the reason we can't have nice things
>>
>>31527577
Oh shit nigger it's ALMOST like almost everyone here is from 4c and has seen the mistakes it made. The meta council was fucking garbage and you'd know it if you played. Needing to get approval for every quest was a fucking nightmare if only because it took so long for each of them to give an opinion. Then you'd have to advise it. The voting for who would be in the MC was literally rigged on skype and in pm to get someone who was likable on it not someone who was actually good for the game. The people who managed to edge in on their own merit in spite of the circlejerk would be dragged through the mud and shat on anonymous and in skype like we're seeing now with Tea
No thanks. I saw it once. What we have works. If anons Ruin want to cry about commissars being shit I sure as fuck am going to say they're doing a hell of a lot better than the alternative we had in 4c.
Mark my words if there's a new MC the members on it are going to drop like flies.

>>31527608
Fuck I got pissed off I didn't notice my autocorrect. You'd have to revise your quests and send it AGAIN to get an opinion. You'd be damn lucky if you got the go ahead on the first try.
OH is doing a damned fine job of abiding this pitfall so let's NOT duck up what we have. I like OH as it is.
>>
>>31525586
Honestly, this is one of the things Fine has said that didn't contain anything incredibly flawed, wasn't moving goalposts, or just wasn't plain stupid yet you still decided to shit on it Anon. Even if you think Fine's shilling for Commissar, which wouldn't be a surprise, you should still give him credit on the things he does right.

Rituals aren't needed. The way Bit and Bit are trying to build it is so that it's basically unicorn magic but slightly harder to do and takes slightly longer. It just doesn't fucking work if you care about world cohesion, and even then it's like gems but without the tedious grind needed to acquire it.
>>
>>31527608
Oh shit my nig with the hard R, it's almost like almost everyone here is from 4c, so everyone still hangs on to their old autism and causes a shitstorm almost regularly because of it.
Sure, a full blown democracy wouldn't fucking work for OH, and yes, the meta council was shit, but going to a behind the scenes autocracy (who's role is so ill defined that you will get different answers from everyone you ask) is a good idea? It's been seen several times in the last weeks that Able will overstep players, insult their intelligence, and then try to force his own ideas on what players are doing. Sure, Tea is a fucking wizard with sheets, and I'd be lying if I said he wasn't smart, but he for sure shouldn't be the fucking mouth that says most of the commissars edicts.
>>
>>31525783
It's clearly a few people from 4C, and you're right, it's not hard to narrow down. Of the group here, there are a few that have had repeated offenses of shitposting and/or have had a history that keeps bringing up old issues. The active players from that game are.

Tea
Stray
Lights
Doug
Wildberry
River
Daybreak
Addy
Spot
Compound
Laffy Taffy
Pepper
Peyote
Ruby
Southstone
Bit
Ceres
Cotton
Weathervane
>>
>>31527657
>Able will overstep players
Example? Commissars are supposed to be the ultimate authority. By that position it IMPLIES power over players.
>insult their intelligence
When did this happen? If you have proof why don't you message Lights about it?
>try to force his own ideas
Wow, I haven't heard these exact same words in years about Able!

Oh BUT WAIT, it's infinitely easier to fling shit as anon than to stand by your opinions with your name attached. Talk about it to Light if you give a fuck or say it the channels, but without a name attached what you're saying is worth less than shit. Funny how history repeats itself.
>>
>>31527657

You've got me there. They are an ultimate authority, but it's not even stated in the doc that they are anything more than janitors.
This did happen, when someone brought up a concern about Fine's stuff IC. Whether it was or not, Lights immediately insulted the person who posted it. I'm not saying whoever posted it was in the right, but insulting someone for actually manning up and bringing their concerns to the discord isn't a good precedent to set if you want people to actually bring themselves forward
And once again, you've got me. All we can see of the commies in their day to day is when they occasionally post in redpill or come in to talk in gameandlore. So, it's just all conjecture.
>>
>>31527743
Why do people dislike him? I've got my own, but I'm just curious why their's a hate boner for the dude.
>>
I don't think rituals really work either.
But I still enjoyed experimenting with systems. Hey if we've got them we might as well do 'em well.
>>
>>31527775
Lights was obviously referring the person spewing shit in the thread, not the ostensible repost by Doug. Are you reading the same shit I am? That post is inflammatory and cancerous as fuck, calling it retarded is calling the kettle fucking black.

>>31527802
You'll get a different answer from anyone you ask. Dude tries to keep things consistent and slap powergamer's shit into place. He likes to write alot so he's a pretentious dick. He goes on a lot of quests so he's STEALING the spots from players who deserve them more. The list goes on and on. Bottom line is he's the low hanging fruit to direct anger towards the authority and failings of the game at.
>>
>>31527775
I personally didn't care for the way people came to my side at that point. Personal attacks tearing down critics, even if they're inflammatory, isn't the right way to do things. If something is negative for the sake of being negative it's best to ignore it. If they provide some points to think on, they should be considered. Fighting flamers with fire isn't going to stop their burning anger and it's a waste of energy.
>>
>>31527849
Exactly the point I was trying to make. Thank you, Fine.
>>
>>31527775
>>
>>31527944
Ok, that's a screenshot of a DM conversation. That *is* their role, and it should be expressly outlined as such, not shown as a misleading 'janitor' tag in the docs. Every new player comes in and gets what is likely to be the wrong idea of who they are and what they do/can do.
>>
>>31527973
oh boy, what evil has been wrought
a fucking word. lol. I actually just started the process of fixing the new player guide, and I've spent a paragraph on describing the role of the commissars. no intentional evil was done. you're just seeing shadows moving

keep in mind that the docs were compiled by one person (who wasn't a commissar when they were written), from word of mouth, over a long period of time. you literally should have just asked me, moire, to fix it.

this tells me that you do not actually want anything fixed. you let little naggings fester in your head until you explode in autistic fury. it truly hurts your credibility
>>
>>31527973
it's old players who are stirring this shit, not new, and you know it. was there shitposting at lights, stray, or moire for being commies? no. it's only because tea is one and fine got promoted that suddenly everyone in the thread is crying wolf about how corrupt and horrible they are.
