Hey there! Welcome to the wonderful world of Shattered, a CYOA based on a war between humanity and equininity. This thread will follow the story of (you), a pony who was recently drafted into the Grand Army of Equestria. (You) will rise through the ranks, taking on tougher foe after tougher foe, until you are the best of the best, or die trying.

This CYOA will play out as a DND-lite, with all Anons creating one (1) singular character to share. You will be tasked with managing this characters stats, choices, and dialogue. Combat will be handled in a text-based fashion, with certain actions succeeding or failing (or somewhere in-between) based on your stats.

So, without further aideu, let's get started! First off, let's create the character!

The choices that must be made right off the bat are the character's name, race, hometown, and background. There are a few choices, each of which will be given more detail in the following posts.

*OP Image shamelessly stolen from How Applejack Won the War animation by Corpse Run Comics. I am not a skilled artist, so don't expect that level of quality in the future.

Name/Cutie Mark:
Completely up to you guys, although if no consensus is reached it will default to a name and CM based on the preffered background trait. (Ex: If Adventurous is picked, the default name would be Talon, with a Compass cutie mark)

Starting Stats:
Resilience / Stamina / Critical Modifier / Luck
7 / 7 / 0 / 0

Starting Skills:
Strength / Agility / Perception / Reflexes
5 / 5 / 5 / 5

(Note: Stats and Skills max out at 15)

*See Skills Dossier (>pic related) for details on what each stat individually does.

2.65 MB
2.65 MB PNG
Race:
Earth Pony / Pegasus / Unicorn

Hometown:
Ponyville / Cloudsdale / Canterlot

*See Race Dossier (>pic related) for details

Note: Once all of this is selected, it will be permanently locked in. However, the traits you pick right now don't determine what you HAVE to do later on. You could choose to have the background Quick Study, and later turn into one of the smoothest diplomats Equestria has ever seen. You wouldn't be THE best of the best, but you'll be pretty damn close.

2.65 MB
2.65 MB PNG
Background:
Adventurous / Party-Pony / Quick Study / Trouble-maker

*See Background Dossier (>pic related) for details

Note: Certain backgrounds are paired with intro/extrovertedness. This will have a minor, but noticable effect on dialogue and conversations.
- As an Introvert your character will feel more comfortable being alone or in small groups with close friends, but will struggle with larger crowds and meeting new people. You'll be able to feign comfort for a while, but you'll need time to recouperate in social circumstances or else people will begin to notice the cracks in your facade.
- As an Extrovert you'll thrive in situations with new people or groups of people, no matter the size. However, as a result, you begin to depend on them. On your own you'll slowly feel more and more worn down. Mental and Emotional effects will begin to take their toll after enough time is spent alone, and that damage won't fade overnight just through idle chit-chat.

Choose Wisely

The sound of papers shuffling was the only sound in the small and stuffy room. You stood in one of four lines, each with ponies trailing out the door. Gruff stallions and mares sat behind desks, questioning the prospectful ponies in line. Most of the time they just took notes and sent them on back, with a rare one or two being sent away. Well, when a threat big enough to destroy all of Equestria rears it's ugly head, they'll take anypony they can get. I mean, they stopped asking for volunteers a long time ago. It wasn't called a draft without a reason.

Looking around, few things stuck out. However, one thing caught your eye: paintings on the walls showing the beautiful Equestrian skyline. Three in total hung on the wall.

The furthest left one depicted Ponyville, a quaint little town near Canterlot known for being one of the friendliest places in Equestria. Home of the Bearers of the Elements of Harmony, the previously tiny town had exploded in population after Twilight Sparkle's battle with Tirek. Somehow, the town had retained it's quaint atmosphere, even after the population nearly tripled. With loads of available labor, Flim Corp and Flam Industries set up shop, spitting out product after product in the valley behind the minaiture metropolis. Sweet Apple Acres itself had a huge boon in industry and expanded all the way out into the valley too. It's quite a wierd site, seeing massive factories churning out the deadliest firearms known to ponykind surrounded by hard-working mares and stallions bucking apples.

The middle one depicted Cloudsdale, the shining beacon in the skies. Known for it's iconic weather factory, the (formerly) largest industrial plant in Equestria. It was quickly outmatched by the massive distribution center setup just above the cloud layer. That's the thing about Pegasi: they go big, or they go home AND go big.

(5/6) [fuck need one more post to get it all in.]
>>
The one furthest to the right depicted Canterlot, the glimmering gem of Equestria. The royal sister's palace stood tall, it's open arches welcoming all inside. The castle glistened, it's walls reinforced with an innate magic hunderds of years old. The city itself seemed to get swallowed up in the shadow of the daunting structure, with only one exception. The Conduit, the center of all technological and arcane research in Equestria. Founded by Twilight Sparkle herself after the Incident on Harvest Island, it pumped out new weapons, armor, and gadgets faster then the Weather Factory pumped out clouds.

The pony ahead of you shifted to the right, and suddenly you found yourself at the front of the line. A grizzled mare looked at you, looking you up and down. She seemed dissapointed. Or was she just jaded? In front of her sat a form with a few blank spots, namely the 'Name', 'Race', 'Hometown', and 'Background' fields.

"So, if you're done staring, howsabout you tell me about a little bit about yourself?" she said, waiting expectantly.

(6/6) [Also fuck forgot to use my name. To be clear, Starbounce is the anon running this cyoa.]

how do I deal out and rearrange the Stats and skills? Oh I get it now. There is no need to adjust yet.

Name: Lamp Light
Cutiemark: a night stand and a lamp

>>31879013
Race: Unicorn race for the memes
Hometown: Canterlot

BG: has a thing for lamps. make a kickstarter to fund her "Mega lamp" product before the war came around.
>>
>>31879044

You might want to use triple code Starbounce.
>>
>>31879112
>name: Lamp Light
>>
>>31879112
Stats are adjusted based on the choices you make. As an example, picking Unicorn as the race would give +5 Perception, +2 Reflexes, and -2 Agility. This would change the base skills to be 5 / 3 / 10 / 7.
5 Strength, 3 Agility, 10 Perception, and 7 Reflexes.

Also, while flavorful backgrounds are appreciated, I did offer up four choices that change stats and stuff. I'd love it if you guys picked one of those on top of other stuff!
>>
>>31879013

Name: Lisboa

Cutie Mark: Armillary sphere

Race: Unicorn

Hometown: Ponyville

Background: Adventurous

Background Dossier: Likes to explore the ruins of Equestria
>>
>>31879044
Voting for a lightning bruiser build. Adventurous for background will be important, a buff to agility and stamina starting out will help for the lightning part; helps us dodge and keep dodging. Introvertness will be preferred for the fact that although you may get nervous and jumpy, you won't be worn down nearly as much as an extrovert may. A party would help for coping with any negative effects in combat, and even moral support.
Race will be a tipping point for the earlygame, pegasus will allow for extra speed right off the bat, or earth will allow for extra power behind our punches and resilience should we fail to dodge.
I'd say pegasi, it'd help to be a speed demon from the get go and we can pump some iron later.
As for name, background, all that jazz, you guys can have fun with that.
Oh, and Starbounce, you should really get a trip.

We are a Pegasus named Blauer Mond, a Pegasus in Ponyville. Orginally from Germane if that's allowed we came to Ponyville with our parents when we were little, giving us a cute accent. We're good with reflexes and are a known trouble-maker. Cutie Mark is a Equestrian flag for patriotism, and I want Blauer Mond to be good with some sort of cannon like gun, cause bitches love cannons.

Earth ponies don't stand a chance in general against humans.
Pegasus are a bit harder to judge but if there is anything with automatic fire or anti air then they are screwed. Unicorns, well it depends if there are a lot of powerful ones if they are weak enough they're worse off then the earthponies but as they get strong enough they become invincible to everything but stealth.

Alright, I've got all of my autistic HFY self out of my system. Okay, are we really doing this because of HFY or is it because it's not another Royal Guard Survival 2.0 now that the MC could potentially turn? If you ask me, besides the fact flipping to humanity's side as a pony is interesting enough, I want Lamp Light to turn because of the different interactions she'd get from both the humans and her fellow ponies.

>>31880668
Gotta agree with you. People -- and to a great extent ponies since they're pretty much human in mind... if they lived in a cartoon that is -- generally try to be a good person, but when push comes to shove, survival becomes the top priority.
>>

Am I the only one who thinks this will be a reasonably even match because both teams are OP? The way humans use their creativity, intelligence, and technology is awe inspiring, and let us play with the very building blocks of the universe. Ponies have access to magical rainbow lasers, time-travel, and moving the goddamn sun.

This is going to be like watching a cage match between two Cthulhu mythos elder gods.

Actually ponies are magic and shit so it would be safe not to assume. An earth pony with at in Strength could probably wear four inch thick steel plating or some shit.

I don't know I don't think it's fair to assume either side is better. That kind of discussion should probably left be left in the other thread.
>>
>>31880774
Ew. I never did like the whole, "humans are more dangerous than ponies" thing. It doesn't seem very humbling. Plus, we still don't know much about the war between poners and huemeans.
>>
>>31880774
If both are OP then they aren't OP thats called balance, but no, honestly and truly Humanity will be the victor unless Equestrians drop the Friendship is Magic idea and start doing some really questionable shit in the name of survival. for Instance

>Magical lobotomy
>Bringing the sun/moon closer to the earth to fuck with the wind/currents/weather/balance of life
>develop more offensive and lethal spells, that one created can never be taken back
>make alliances with the other races and excuse whatever the pony equivalent of war crimes would be that species like Griffons might do

each of those things have consequences and the more ponies that know/accept them would make those who dont begin to question who really is the "bad guy" or if they are as good as they have always thought they were, If not the individuals then the leaders they have loved/followed.
>>
>>31880801
come to think of it, the only ponies who has come close to being any sort of warlord or be tactically adept in any sense has been Luna/Nightmare moon, Granny Smith, and Twilight. as I recall Shining armor despite being a captain hasnt done anything really befitting his station besides bang a princess and make a bubble shield

Turns out this particular one is supposed to be a cover for a Russian fic. Anyways, I have to tell you though, it's rare to see good '/k/ types in Equestria', so good luck finding them. I still have a few nice looking ones laying around if you like to save 'em.

My apologies for using the term OP to mean "super impressive compared to most other things" rather than the literal "able to overpower everything else". I know what I was describing is called balance. Sorry for my word choice.

You mentioned a number of ways ponies could use to win more easily, as well as mentioning that their societal values would likely prevent them from employing such methods. That was all I was trying to say, really. Magic is a huge advantage, but thinking friendship is always the answer is a huge disadvantage (in war, at least).

Without further information, I feel like it could go either way. That's all I meant.

>>31880824
I think he meant we the players only have our imagination, as in we lack info. Not we the humans only have imagination to work with in combat.

>I know what I was describing is called balance. Sorry for my word choice.

>You mentioned a number of ways ponies could use to win
to possibly win, though I failed to make that clearer in my post. as all the HFY Anons have repeated over and over and the Pony Anons have tried to argue against, Humanity is simply better equipped, suited, and mentally/socially prepared for war at a given notice.

>Without further information, I feel like it could go either way. That's all I meant.
I understand, especially with the needing/wanting more information as of right now the only thing we really know about the Ponies or Humans in this CYOA is they exist and that they have apparently faced a "doomsday event" before or at least were aware of the possibility with these lines

>Well, when a threat big enough to destroy all of Equestria rears it's ugly head, they'll take anypony they can get.
>I mean, they stopped asking for volunteers a long time ago. It wasn't called a draft without a reason.

and that they at least have a basic understanding of gunpowder(or an equivalent) and metallurgy/industry
>Sweet Apple Acres itself had a huge boon in industry [...] churning out the deadliest firearms known to ponykind
>The Conduit, the center of all technological and arcane research in Equestria.
>Founded by Twilight Sparkle herself after the Incident on Harvest Island, it pumped out new weapons, armor, and gadgets faster then the Weather Factory pumped out clouds

the only thing we can compare this to would be our own historical Industrial ages but we are not ponies (though if we want to get really fucking meta then we are their true gods since they were created by man to sell toys) but I digress, we simply don't know enough about what they have and don't have especially since Equestria itself has huge technology gaps in its own nation in the show

I'd agree, but we're playing as a PONY, meaning we don't have any loyalty to humanity. If we're going to be pro-humanity then I'd prefer if we were HUMAN because I can't stand traitors in any capacity.

>>
>>31879625
I agree with >>31881949
Its a much better idea to give the opportunity to switch sides mid-quest when we know more about the war, rather than deciding before the quest has started. Like if we find out the ponies started the war and is committing war crimes we may want to switch, and if it is the humans who are committing atrocities we'll stick with equestria.
Maybe provide an opportunity to switch after a few threads, and we'll decide then.
>>
>>31882249
and then we can steal the lamp in the sky
>>
>>31881949
That is how it's gonna go. I was using the strawpoll to see how many people would want it, not to decide. For now Lamp Light (the winning mc btw) is going to stay on the pony's side. Later on, at a more natural point then in a pony drafting station surrounded by experienced fighters, she'll be offered a choice.

Now that character creation is done, we can get onto the fun stuff. Later tonight I'll have the first set of prompts ready, and the fun can truly begin.

>>31880811
>the only ponies who has come close to being any sort of warlord or be tactically adept in any sense has been Luna/Nightmare moon, Granny Smith, and Twilight.

Also, a little bit of context before we get into this, we aren't starting at the beginning of the war. First contact with humanity was a few years ago, and relationships between humanity and ponykind(equininity?) have only gotten worse since then. Open conflict has cropped up a few times, but things are currently in a lull.

>>
>>31882226

>>

>>
>>31883182
>>31880498
>>
>>31883194
That's cool, but it's more of a lone wolf ending. I was thinking a whole third faction. Like she's with the Diamond Dogs or something and plays the ponies and humans right into their paws.
>>
>>31880927
Huh. Honestly, I've found a lot of "ponies with guns and/or humans" pics out there, but I really liked the first one you linked because the guardpone still had his original gear. It was less like "ponies go full /k/" and more "some poor sap got stuck doing patrol with the natives". It feels like an actual moment you'd see in a world where we've encountered Equestria and managed peace.
>>
"Lamp Light, huh?" The mare behind the counter takes a look at your cutie mark, then shakes her head. "Real shame a daisy like you's gotta fight in this war. You look like you'd fall over if the wind blew the wrong way."

As you notice the dirt on her coat you smirk a little. "At least I don't look like I've been dumpster diving for my latest meal."

The mare's nostrils widen as her eyebrows shoot up. Subconsciously she rubs her hoof over her coat a little, causing specks of dirt to fall onto the table. She let out a snort, "You know what? I think you'll do just fine on the front. Keep up that attitude and maybe you'll sass the humans away from our shores."

As you opened your mouth to speak the mare behind the desk continued. "Head on over to the palace, they're boarding a train for the Las Pegasus boot camp. You'll see the line."

You open your mouth to say something, but a quick glare from the desk mare sends you packing. The poor stud behind you shuffles up to her, and she repeats what she said to you almost word for word. Hurridly, you step outside into the bright sunlit street. The first thing you noticed was the massive castle looming on the mountainside. Even after living here for your entire life, the sheer size of it amazed you. No matter where you stood in Canterlot, the castle was visible, and you were visible from the castle. It was both awestriking and terrifying, a true monument to what Unicorns can accomplish when they have passion and purpose.

The next thing you noticed were the other ponies trotting down the street. Half of them seemed to be heading towards the palace, half away. Politicians walked alongside everyponies on the street, something that would have been scoffed at a decade ago. Hey, war means we all have to make some sacrifices after all.
(1/2)
>>
Speaking of, the street itself was exsquistly crafted, with painstaking detail put to every grain of stone. Too bad it had been years since they'd had anyone to mantain them. Blades of grass were starting to appear in the cracks, and soon enough entire sections would have to be redone rather then individual tiles. Shame, they used to be the most beautiful thing in the city.

Stopping for a moment, you realized that the desk mare never said when the train would be leaving. You face-hoofed. It'd be almost impossible to get back in there and ask! Well, guess you just gotta go by your gut.

Almost as if on que, your gut growled. You must have been waiting in line for so long that you'd forgotten about lunch! There's a sweet hayburger place nearby, or you could head to the Celestial Gardens over by the castle and hope to find a food cart nearby. Then again, you don't know how much time you have until the train leaves, it might be best to just head to the station. What happens if you head over there and don't get anything to eat before the train leaves? They don't serve food on military trains after all... Well, do they?

You slouch over, rubbing your temples with your hooves. Ugh, too much going on. Let's just pick one and go with it.

Hayburgers. The sweet sweet scent of those delectable greasy straws fills your mind, and once it gets in there, it's hard to get it out. You look around, trying to remember where the nearest hayburger place is. Looking around you notice a small stream cutting through the middle of the road. Guards stood on either side of the street, less watching the ponies and more just calming them with their presence. And right across the street from you stood...

You pause for a second before smacking yourself in the face with your hoof. There's a hayburger right across the street! You quickly dash over, bursting through the door... only to find yourself behind three other ponies. Uuughhh, this is not what you needed right now.

Time ticked by, and you found yourself jumping in place like a little filly on a long train ride. Seconds crawled by, each one feeling like a millennium, and ever so slowly, ponies grabbed their orders and walked out. Finally, you hit the front of the line. Knowing the menu by heart, you open your mouth to speak.

"I'd like a large number 9 with a side of celery fries."

Your eyes opened wide as you registered the mare in front of you. She wasn't there before, was she? Did she just cut in front of you? You could have sworn you were at the front of the line. And did she just get exactly what you were about to order?

As they got her order ready, she noticed you staring at her. She gave a small smile and a wave. Was that genuine, or was she smiling at how she's getting away with cutting in line?

"Wait a second, I remember you!" You say, trying to sound as convincing as possible. White and orange hair, light blue skin... yellow-ish pebble cutie mark... come on...
"You must be Phosphorus Blur!" You say excitedly, "Yeah, I remember you all the way back from magic first grade!"

"Wait, I think it's coming back to me. Your face seems familiar too... Are you Topaz Shaker? That one girl who got that shattered gem cutie mark in class?" She says, trying to get a peek at your cutie mark. If there's one thing you know for certain, it's that lamps do not look like shattered gems.

Deftly you swerve your butt, and your incriminating cutie mark, out of the way of her eyesight. "The one and only! How've you been? It's been ages! I think I still owe you that sandwhich though, so here, let me take care of that for you." Before she can react you push ahead of her and place a few bits down on the counter. The employee behind the register takes them and rings it in.

"Food should be out in a minute!" She says with a insincerely cheerful tone. Just gotta stall for a little longer. Uhm.., rock based cutie mark, what would a first grader who's really into rocks do?
(1/3)
>>
"So, what have you been up to lately? Still got that strip mine in the family?"

"Uhh, well not really," she says, angling her head around to try and see your behind. You subtly scooch it away. "Grandpa kinda sold that, oh wait, that's right, it was magic second-grade when he sold it!" She says, facehoofing. She looks back at you with a small smile on her lips. "That thing was amazing to play around in when we were younger, wasn't it?"

The employee behind the counter sets down an empty bag, then leaves to bring over the food. Almost there!

"Yeah! Remember that one time when we fell through that grate and ended up in a Diamond Dog tunnel? That was crazy!"

"I don't remember any Diamond Dogs..." She trails off, her head cocking to the side ever so slightly. She slowly inched it to the side, hoping to get a glimpse of your cutie mark. You slowly moved it the other way, keeping it out of sight. "In fact, I'm pretty sure my Grandpa told me stories about how they relocated all of the diamond dogs when they were just moving into the mine..." She started to shift her head faster. You don't think you'll be able to keep up like this. Suddenly, an idea struck. You placed your hoof on her head and turned it towards you.

"Listen, sweetie. You've been staring at my flank this whole time. Before this goes any further, I just want you to know that I'm not into mares." Her cheeks turned redder then a ruby.

"What?! No! I- I wasn't trying to-"

Suddenly a small bell rings. The employee at the counter pushed the bag full of heavenly greasy delight towards you two.

(2/4)
>>
"Ah! There's my order. Well, it was good catching up with you Phosphorus, catch you around!"

You grabbed the bag with your magic and turned around. The other mare froze when she saw the lamp cutie mark plastered to your hide. She looked up from your flank in shock, and as you looked back to her, you winked. You didn't think it was possible for her to turn any redder, but somehow she did. Goodies in tow, you leapt out the front doors into the sunlight.

You strolled down towards Canterlot Castle, following the stream up to it's source. You popped a few celery fries as you went, saving the big burgz for later when you could enjoy it to the proper extent. Pretty good haul, if I say so myself. The fries are just a tad crispy, but nothing too horrible so far. As you glimpse at the stream you notice golden flecks sparkling in the water. Looking at them brings back memories of when Princess Celestia's speech when she first unveiled it.

"It all starts big. The sky, the ocean, the sun, everything comes from something grand." You whisper to yourself as you trot along, your reflection in the stream keeping pace with you. "From there, things start to get smaller. After looking at the sky for so long, you begin to notice the clouds, the wind, the sunlight." You stop as you notice the stream had fused with the others into another, larger stream. "From the grand the large forms. From the large," you look at the small stream you followed here, "the small forms." You continue down the conjoined streams, nearing the castle itself.

(3/4)
>>
"Each cloud, made up of an uncountable amount of raindops, is large. But the cloud would be nothing without each and every one of those raindrops. The large needs the small, or else the large ceases to exist at all." You stepped through one of the castle's many open arches, two miniature alicorns perched on the peak. Before you stood one of the most graceful things in the entirety of Equestria: the Celestial Ponds. "Without the large, what defines the grand? What is a sky without clouds, or sunlight?"

Looking to the center of the ponds, you spotted a statue. Her horn mighty, her wings brazen, and she glowed with a subtle incandescence that only a goddess of the sun could glow with. The last part of her speech registered faintly in your memory. "A storm is made up of millions of individual raindrops. The raindrops can exist without the storm, but the storm cannot exist without the raindrops."

You even didn't have to get close to read the inscription at the base of the statue. Who could forget those words? After all, she did end her speech with them.

In Memorium of Princess Celestia, the Dawnbringer

Brutally taken away from us in the Incident of Harvest Island

"Without the rain, the storm is nothing."

Silently, as a gesture of honor and respect, you offered the statue one of your celery fries.

Consider: Celestia is an elder fucking alicorn. That's not the kind of thing you put down with a single bullet or a grenade; Celestia is one of the few things we'd actually have to fear. No one berserk soldier or terrorist kicked off a war. If she was actually killed in battle, then - and I say this as a sunfag, it's not a good feel knowing she's dead - it's because she was unleashing the kind of actual hell that meant a massive lethal response was the only rational reaction.

Why wouldn't a bullet kill a horse? or a IED? You'd have a argument if she was aware of it but anyone doing a false flag or knows what they are doing wouldn't have been teleprompting their actions in front of her. And im not saying Humans aren't to blame, I'm saying it might have been a single human or a small group that did this to cause escalation and now both parties have to respond/act on the other because of it

Did you miss the part about how she's an elder alicorn? This is a pony who ate a direct hit from a beam that was demolishing buildings, carving through thick stone buildings like nothing - and stood up unharmed. After your silent salute to the fallen goddess, you heard the crackle of an intercom nearby.

"All ponies signed up for the draft, please stand back from the rails and prepare to board."

Looking over at your hayburger still floating in midair, and thinking of all the celery fries you just gorged yourself on, you felt pleased you were able to make the diversion and still get here on time. Shame that poor mare had to suffer another 5 minute wait, but exenuating circumstances forced your hoof. I mean, it's not your fault you were able to outplay her so easily! Taking a deep breath, you trotted towards the train station.

As you neared the station, you noticed a small shimmering blockade with a guard in a booth nearby. Familiar with the system from your visit to the Conduit, you walked over to the guard booth and pressed a small button on your side of the window.

"Hi there, I'm fresh from the drafting station and was told to come catch this train. Any chance you could power down the barrier for me? I'd rather not trip all the alarms on this side of the station."

The stallion jerked up, quickly shoving a magazine underneath his desk. Was that a Playpony?

"Huh, er, yeah, sure!" The stallion behind the glass said nervously. "Just slide your recruitment papers through the hole. I can tell you're in a hurry, so I'll give them a quick glance over and you should be good to go." He said, motioning to the small crevice beneath the glass.

Horror flashed across your face as you realized you didn't have any papers on you. That desk mare must have held on to them for some reason... Ugh! Why does everything have to be so difficult today?

>What do you do?

Oh, bye-the-bye, if seducing the guard doesn't work then you'll be back to square one. So, imma have Lamp Light attempt the most popular opinion first, and if that fails, then she'll attempt the second most popular opinion.

You lean up against the glass, eyeing up the stallion inside. He wasn't the most handsome thing in the world, but you could work with it. You'd never attempted this before, never really had the time with all that work you put into revolutionizing the lighting industry of Equestra. Internally you shook your head, you'd never understand why no one would accept your proposal. Tubular lighting was the way to go! Not all these streetlamps with their tiny candles.

You shook your head, now wasn't the time. You took a deep breath, then fluttered your eyes at the stallion.

"Don't think I didn't see that magazine of yours there. Aren't you tired of looking at cartoon horses all day long?" You say, your legs spreading ever so slightly wider. "If only there were a real mare right here right now, I'm certain she'd be willing to trade 'favors' with you. I'll raise something of mine if you raise that gate right there."

The stallion noticed the motion, and nervously shook his head. "Ma-ma'am, I'm not allowed to do that. It'd be a huge breach of protocol. I could get fired for that!"

"How about I rephrase my offer," you say slyly, "you raise the gate, and I won't raise my concerns with the chief here about a certain stallion's 'naughtiness'? I'm certain that you'd not only get fired from your job, but you won't find even find new work anywhere in the city!"
>>
The stallion gulped, then hung his head in defeat and pressed a small blue button on the dashboard. The magical shimmer dissapeared, and you trotted on through. As you passed by, you quickly flicked your tail up, the stallion's gaze falling prey to the hypnotic sway of your hips as you trotted by. When he noticed that you noticed, his muzzle turned cherry red, and he turned away. One of his hooves suspiciously found it's way beneath the desk. You smiled, taking a bite of your hayburger as you cantered foward. You hadn't expected that to work so well! Then again you did kind of blackmail him, but so what? It was for a good cause anyways.

"Hold the gate!" You heard somepony shout. Wait, you recognized that voice! Turning around, you spotted a light blue mare, fiery orange hair with small white tips whipping around in a frenzy as she charged towards the gate. She held a small stack of papers underneath one of her wings, and a greasy brown paper bag underneath the other. Suddenly, she hurtled face first towards the ground, landing squarely in one of the smaller ponds throughout the gardens. She picked herself up, her eyes wide as she took in her situation. She was dripping wet, her mane clumping together from all the water. Her papers strewn about the area, some landing in the water. Her paper bag had opened, spilling out a hayburger and celery fries straight into the water. Taking in the disaster around her, she only moved when she heard the sound of the magic seal across the gate reforming.

Whistles pierced the air, and the magical crackle of a nearby intercom buzzed. "The train has arrived, and will be departing in 5 minutes. Please make your way to the station."

The light blue pegasi stared towards the station in disbelief, tears forming in the corners of her eyes as she flopped back into the puddle.

(cont)
>>
You could go and help her out, but you'd almost certainly miss the train. There's no way it'd wait for two random mares at the front gates.

Alternatively, you could just go board the train. This Pegasi looks like she could really use the help though, even if you aren't sure how she'd treat you after what you did to her earlier.

>What do you do?

Help her.
If she asks why, tell her we lied before. We ARE into mares.
>>
Okay, so either we:
A) Be a total cunt and leave her to her fate. We won't be late but this might bite us in the ass if we ever meet up again.
Or...
B) Play nice and try to help her get on board but with a chance we'll be late, leaving you both behind and in loads of trouble. Well, at least we made a friend if we take this path.

Is there a third option I'm missing here where we can both take her with us but not be late, guys?
>>
>>31894228
If our levitation is strong enough we could hurl her onto the train with us.
We might be able to accomplish something by levitating her papers to the gate or something.
Alternatively, we might be able to make the train pause without stepping away from it, giving her time to get her shit together.

>>
>>31894361
Sorry, it really sounded like one or two ideas combined.
Bring the papers to the guy at the gate via magic then pick the mare up and haul her over the train. Or if we're not strong enough, give the papers then try to delay the train while she gathers her bearings.

We only have 5 minutes. Leave the food behind, grab the papers, and then drag her to the station is the fastest option here. Plus, she's emotionally wrecked, so she's not walking properly anytime soon.

You know absolutely nothing about the military, law, or how desperate a nation is for soldiers if they're using a draft. The worst that will happen to anybody is that they'll get chewed out by a superior officer and be put through the ringer for the duration of training.
>>
>>31894437
>No, Lamp Light only has small object levitation and a spotlight-style illumination.
>then pick the mare up and haul her over the train.
Anon plz. We can gather the papers and toss them to the colt.
>>31894475
Ask Guard to let up gate so we can quickly pick up all her shit and shove her soaked food in her greasy bag. All of which should take less than a minute with telekinesis because "unicorn master race!", because telekinesis doesn't require you to walk over to pick things up.
>>
>>31894483
You underestimate the versatility and usefulness of telekinesis and the corners it can cut.
>>
>>31894483
She'll get better when she gets the papers in order. And she can fly.
>>31894475
Fuck does she look stronk or anything? Maybe she can air lift us there to the train. Just how far is the train station from our position?
>>
>>31894475
I have an important question. Is the pond filled with dirty or clean water?
>>
>>31894492
Yeah, draft dodging isn't dangerous at all.
>>
>>31894511
She doesn't look too strong enough to carry the both of you, and with what she's been through, I doubt she's in much of a flying mood anyways.

>>31894525
Clean. The center pond with the statue is almost completely see through, and while these others aren't quite as clear, they're pretty clean. The papers are just wet, not coated n mud.
>>
>>31894538
On a sex scale, 1 being ugly and 10 being hot shit, what is she? My guess is a 6.
>>
Board the train and find a way to delay it.
>>
>>31894537
That's where you're wrong, it wouldn't be considered draft dodging.
>>
>>31894562
Solid 7.5. Prolly had a stallion or two chasing after her in magic high school
>>
>>31894572
Got drafted. Failed to show up.
Someone's head has to roll. Unless someone else took criminal action to cause her to fail to show up, that head's gonna be hers.
>>
>>31894538
Let's cut to the chase. Combining what we have from all the Anons have suggested:
First, we call out to the guard to open the gate so we can levitate her papers and give them to him.
Then, this is only if we have the time, we use our magic to gather the mare's food and shove it into her bag.
Next, we try to talk to her and convince the mare to stop crying and walk (low chance, I know but it's worth a shot). If that's not possible, drag her using our strength over to the station. And if that fails, delay the train somehow (We're going get in trouble if we do this) so she has time to recover enough to walk or even fly to the train.

How does this sound, guys?
>>
>>31894617
Fuck, meant to tag this >>31894475. Doesn't matter now since you'll see this anyways, Star.
>>
>You smiled, taking a bite of your hayburger as you cantered foward.
We've still got our food. Worst comes to worst, we could give her some if we don't have time to gather up her food.
>>
>>31894617
Yes. Do it. Pull that trigger.
>>
>>31894599
Draft dodger is a person who evades a draft for service in the armed forces of the country. A draft dodger AVOIDS (DODGES) THE CONSCRIPTION POLICIES of the nation in which s/he is a citizen or resident by LEAVING THE COUNTRY or GOING INTO HIDING. It is also referred to as draft evasion or draft resistance.

She came and she filled out all of the necessary paperwork only to be PREVENTED from reaching the train in time.
>>
>>31894617
>>31894592
15 seconds: tell guy to lift shield and time for shield to be lifted
30 seconds: tell Phosphorus to stfu and pick her shit up while we pick shit up
1-2 minutes for colt to look over her files, possibly less time if we apply black mail
Remaining time is used for dead sprint to the train.
>>
I'd fuck the dirty grizzled mare. She seemed cute when she's flustered.
>>
>>31894706
Sounds like a plan
>>
You gallop over to the guard post and thwack the glass. The stallion jumps up, the playpony sliding off his lap onto the ground. In the name of Celestia, can that stallion keep his sword in it's sheath for more then five minutes? You point to the shimmering magical gate, silently imploring him to open it. At first he looked confused, then, with realization visibly dawning across his face, he hit the button to drop the shield.

The mare jumps a little as your hoof hits the pond in front of her. She looks up at you as you reach down and start to pull her up.

"Come on, if we don't get there soon the train will leave without us!" You shout, leaving her on her own four feet as you run around and gather all the papers up in your magical aura. You quickly scoop up the sopping wet sandwhich too, and the driest clump of celery fries you can find.

The light blue mare starts speaking quietly, "Wait, weren't you that-"

"Phosphorus, there's no time! I'll explain on the train, let's go!"

"But-"

"No time!"

(cont)
>>
She shook her head side to side, roughly snapping herself out of her confusion. You shove the food towards her, and she bundles it up under one of her wings and starts running towards the gate. You follow, smacking the glass again to get the stallion's attention. He didn't have the Playpony out, but he did have both hands under his desk and he was starting to look a little sweaty. By the grace of Luna, that stallion couldn't keep his sword sheathed for more then five seconds! He angrily mouths a 'What?!' at you, and you start shoving the stack of papers through the small slit near the bottom. Once you get all of them through, you sprint off without looking back, Phosphorus Blur just barely ahead of you.

The train's shrill whistle pierces the air, and as you round the corner you notice the last pony step onto the train. The doors to the passenger compartments close, and the whistle's shrill tune pierces the air again. The train slowly starts to screech forward.

"We'll never make it it time!" Phosphorus yells, only sounding slightly out of breath. You, on the other hand, are starting to breathe heavily. You can keep up this dead sprint, but not for much longer.

"Keep going!" You shout in-between breaths, buying some time to think.

(cont)
>>
The passenger doors have closed, so going in the normal route isn't an option.

There's the coal cart at the front near the conductor. You could leap inside the pile and hide for the entirety of the trip, sneaking out when the rest of the ponies file out. It's near the front though, so it'd be the hardest to reach in time.

There's the cargo containers near the back. One of them even has a small ladder on the side you could grab onto! Once you get to the train's destination you'll have to sneak in with the rest of the ponies or risk punishment. Until then though, you'd be safe.

Or you could head towards the caboose. By virtue of being the back of the train it'd be the easiest to reach. There's a ladder on the back with an earth pony standing guard. He might drop the ladder for you when he spots you running after the train. Keyword: might. And even if he does, there's a good chance he'd report you to his superiors, and you have no clue what the punishment for illicit boarding is.

Phosphorus will follow your lead.

> What do you do?
>>
>>31894851
I vote cargo. If that fails, than the caboose.
>>
Aight, that's it for tonight.

No updates tomorrow night, gotta a lot of stuff going on. However, I can do Saturday morning at 10AM EST for an hour or two, and again at 10PM EST.
>>
>>31894154
>get fired for that!
UCMJ called. There'd be a lot more than a firing if something like that was discovered.

Fucking powerpoints at 0930

>>31894851
Cargo. I'm not really sure why we'd have to 'risk punishment'; it's unorthodox, but "we were either going to ride back there or miss the train entirely" is a good reason.

Unrelated, Phosphorus seems like an okay pony. Shuts up and gets things done when told. She might actually survive.
>>
>>31894851
Considering Lamp has an agility of 3, I think we should take the container first then the caboose. If we fail to reach the container the we will have to go with the caboose. Maybe we can bribe the guard with a quick hoofy.
>>
>>31894851
Definitely cargo containers. Caboose should be second in case we miss the containers.

>>31894987
>Maybe we can bribe the guard with a quick hoofy.
Offering ourselves for our male counterparts in the military in exchange for services normal grunts wouldn't get? Wow, you're already thinking like a wookie. We can definitely use that to our advantage. Nice call, Anon.
>>
>>31895340
Wookie?
>>
>>31895347
Female Marine, but this can apply to any female serving in the military. Never served but heard lots of stories where they sell themselves for stuff and then ending up pregg'ed or get a shit load of STDs from /k/ and some Marine buddies of mine.
>>
>>31895412
TK jobs are probably a thing.
>>
>>31894851
Cargo seems like the best option. We'll never reach the coal cart in time, and the guard at the caboose will probably report us IF he even let us on the train in the first place.
If we fail to reach cargo in time we could still try the caboose, and flirt with the guard to keep him from reporting us.

Thanks for the bumps guys, have some fresh content.

Aight so, this'll run from 10AM EST until Noon. I ain't missing Forgotten Friendship. :p
Keep in mind we'll run again starting at 10PM EST until around midnight.

~~

"Shoot for the cargo container! We'll never make the coal cart, and we'll get caught if we head to the caboose!"

Phosphorus nods, and starts gunning it towards the cargo cart in the middle. She's managing to outpace you pretty easily, she'll definetely make it there in time. Heck, she probably could have hit the coal cart easily! Perks of being a pegasi I guess.

Phosphorus leaps into the air, slowing down as she tries to gain altitude. She glides towards the train, and at just the right moment, snatches the ladder as it passes by. She made it!

You're still a good away distance though, and with all your running earlier your legs are starting to feel like lead. Your breathing heavily, and you're pretty sure the spots in the edges of your vision weren't there a minute ago. You shake your head, trying to clear it. Why couldn't you have ever mastered teleportation?! You were just as likely to end up under the train as you were on top of it.

(cont)
>>
The train was picking up speed even faster now, and the cargo container was just about to pass you! Now's your chance! You spot Phosphorus' light blue fur as she clings to the ladder, and you jump for it. Phosphorus stretches out a hoof, and you grab it and the ladder as you slam into the side of the train. The impact stuns you, and your grip on the ladder slips. You start to fall, but Phosphorus' grip keeps you in place. The strain is evident though, you can practically feel the tension in her muscles. She extends her wings, wrapping them around your hoof, and pulls with all her might. You reach out and snag the ladder, both of you letting out a sigh of relief. If it wasn't for Phosphorus, you'd have almost certainly fallen onto the tracks underneath the train. They probably wouldn't have even noticed the small bump as your life was extinguished. After a few moments of silence, you speak up.

"Hey, there's gotta be a way inside this thing..." You say, in between gasps of air. "Let's head up to the roof and check it out."

Phosphorus nods, and starts to climb. The whipping winds brush her tail over your muzzle, the soft hair sending a small tingle down your spine. You shake your head, refusing to look up until she climbs over the top of the cargo container, and then climb up. The train has reached it's top speed by now, and has cleared Canterlot proper. You look back towards the majestic high-rise castle that's watched over you for your entire life, and give it a small salute as it begins to recede into the distance.

(cont)
>>
"Hey, there's a hatch right here." Phosphorus says. It gives a small creak as she slides it open, and she pops down inside. You take one last look at Canterlot, and deep down inside, you hope that this won't be the last time you see it.

You lightly drop into the hatch, the only light coming from the small opening in the ceiling. Phosphorus has already gotten comfy next to a couple of crates, and is watching you as you take in the small area.

"So... that was something, eh?" She says, a slight grin on her face.

"Yeah, that's one way of putting it." You respond, still looking around at the crates.

"So, you never did answer my question earlier. Granted if you did you'd we probably wouldn't have made it here, we cut it pretty close as is, but now that we have some time, I'd like an answer." She says, sounding gentle with a little bit of force behind it.

> How Do You Respond?
>>
>>31901820
Welp, time to come clean. Better be honest and gain her trust than trying to fool her and damage our relationship -- it's better in the long run if she ends up in the same unit as us in the future.
>>
>>31901820
Maybe teller about how she cut ahead of us, and that we couldn't let it slide because we were late for a certain train
>>
Huh, it's been an hour and there have only been two posts -- kinda expecting quick and generally more replies since by now since it's the weekend. Then again, some Anons might be busy in the mornings. Anyone out there besides the qm and us two Anons?
>>
>>31902030
Same. Might not do Saturday mornings if it stays as dead as this. We'll try again next week and I'll make a judgement call there.

Also, update is almost ready. Few more minutes and it'll be out.
>>
>>31901820
Alright. Looks like we got all the time in the world until we reach our destination. Shoot, what is it? If it's about the thing back at the Hayburger then, to be fair you did cut in front of me. And earlier? Well I guess I felt a little bad. I guess you almost had a good reason to cut in line.
>>
>>31902030
>>31902148 (me)
I'm here
>>
"Well, you see..." You started, "I was running a little late, and I had a train to catch." You respond slyly.

Phosphorus chuckled. "That's all?" she asked, "Just a little late?"

"Well..." you say bashfully, I'm also pretty sure that you cut in front of me."

Phosphorus cocked her head to the side. "Really? I don't remember doing that! I'm so sorry!"

"Well, I mean, I was kinda daydreaming about my last meal in Canterlot, so I wasn't paying that close of attention. Who knows, maybe you were there the whole time and I didn't even notice!"

"Nono, I'm pretty sure it's my fault. I mean, you aren't the biggest of mares, and I was just so hungry I probably just walked right past you!"

"Well, who knows. Maybe I was so lost in my daydream that I didn't notice the line moving forward, and you just trotted right on by me!"

"So we're both to blame for this?"

"I mean, probably."

"...Eh, I'll take it."

The two of you share a small laugh. In the comfortable silence that followed, a queston popped into your head.

"Say, I don't remember seeing you at the drafting station. If you went there earlier, then why'd you wait so long before getting a bite to eat?" You ask.

"Huh? Oh, no! My mom works there, and I was chilling in the back. I'd been signed up for a while, and they only had room to fit me on this train. My mom wanted me to run some paperwork for her since I was coming down here anyways."

"Wait, your mom works at the drafting station?"

"Yeah! She was interviewing people all day long, and she had forgotten to give one of them her papers."

"Those must have been mine!"
(cont)
>>
"Yeah! They had your cutie mark on them and everything! You had no idea what was going through my head when I realized that not only had I stumbled into the exact mare I was looking for, but she had also just taken my order! Believe me, I almost threw those papers in the trash right then and there."

You laugh nervously, "Yeah, thanks for not doing that. You're a good mare." You say, giving her a small bump on the shoulder.

She blushes a little. "Th-thanks..." Then she lets out a huge yawn. "Ugh, wow, that run there tired me out. Imma hit the hay before we get to the station. Gotta get some of my energy back, you know?"

"Yeah, not a bad idea. I'm gonna hit the hay too."

You jump onto some particularily cozy looking crates, and spin around a few times before deeming them comfortable enough. You plop down and quickly fall asleep.

End of Chapter 1

New Friend Gained: Phosphorus Blur (Pegasus)
Speaking with your friends helps recharge your Resilience and Endurance, and their presence makes you more confident and convincing.

Experience Points Gained: 4
Skill Points Gained: 1

After your ordeal today, you've gained a few points to spend! Descriptors of what each stat does can be found in the OP.

A few things to note:
- Experience Points are used to upgrade stats.
- Skill Points are, at the moment, used for leveling up spells. They will have more use later on.
- Stats cap out at 20, not 15.
- After level 10, leveling up a stat costs two points instead of one.
- New spells cannot be learned at the moment, however, your current spells can be upgraded slightly.

Lamp Light (Unicorn)

>>
>>31902180
2 points into perception (time to be God, bois) and the other 2 to luck (considering our luck in this chapter, we need some luck on out side). Add 1 skill point to strobe. Unless someone else can convince me why I should go for the other skills/perks, I'll be keeping this as my vote.
>>
>>31902175
>You jump onto some particularily cozy looking crates, and spin around a few times before deeming them comfortable enough.
Hue. Cat horsey.

How do I use the exsperience and skill point? Do I spend the skill point into one of the spells?
>>
>>31902263
Don't forget to add glow sticks
>>
>>31902263
Won't upgrading perception twice take all 4 points? Since it's over 10.
>>
>>31902175
All points into perception up to 15, and get Strobe since flash grenades are OP.
>>
>>31902395
Yup. You spend experience points on stats, skill points on spells -- that's pretty much it.

>>31902405
Yes, we shall be the brightest on the battlefield and be a shining beacon for the tired, poor, and the masses. Or, you know, get shot -- that works too.

>>31902512
>After level 10, leveling up a stat costs two points instead of one.
Oh damn, you might be right. I thought qm meant our character once she reaches level 10, not our stats. If that's the case...

>>31902175
Change >>31902263 to:
Use 4 Experience Points to add 2 points to perception.
1 Skill Point to Strobe.
>>
Yes. All into Perception and the Strobe spell.
We will blind pair and make their ears bleed with elderitch chanting of dead languages.
>>
>>31902175
Strobe could be useful
Although I love asymetrical stats, we seriously need more luck. (Unless our ridiculously low amount becomes part of the plot)
I vote to give 2 points to luck and spend the remaining 2 points on perception (we must become the god of perception!)

Just a quick reminder, the thread goes live at 10PM EST.

Consensus currently appears to be spend 4 xp to level up perception twice, and the skill point on strobe.
>>
>>31906981
That's three hours ahead of me so I guess you'll start 19:00 or 7pm.
>>
>>31907120
You're lucky. For me its 04:00 (4am)

Lamp Light has grown more preceptive, reaching a total of 15 Perception.
Lamp Light learned a new way to utilize one of her spells: Strobe mode!

Start of Chapter 2

~~~
You awake slowly. Something wasn't right. Ohno, something definitely wasn't right! Why does your head feel like it's being smashed by an ancient stone obelisk? Why is there light coming in from the side of the train instead of the top? What are those small holes in the train car doing there? What are these heavy weights pinning you down? Why is the train cart on it's side? Why can't you hear anything?!
You shake your head, the throbbing refusing to go away. Whe- where was Phosphorus? You look around, a thick smoke clouding your vision. You can't see anything from here, the crates block nearly all of your vision in the already smokey compartment. You push, and they jostle a little bit, but refuse to get off you entirely. You push again, and get the same result as before: nothing. In a desparate attempt to get them off, you wrap them in a telekinetic field and push. The pain nearly splits your skull in half, and they barely move at all! Augh! If only you'd praticed your telekinesis more before you'd left, you'd be out of here in a snap! Speaking of doing things in a snap, you could always try teleporting out of here. Who knows what's going on outside though, not to mention you'd be leaving Phosphorus behind, assuming she hasn't already left. And assuming she isn't...
(cont)
>>
You shake your head, refusing to even consider the possibility. Taking a moment to look around at what little details you can, you notice a few things. First off, the floor is covered in a slick, oily substance. You can feel it running down the back of your coat. It feels warm, and it's kinda thin, almost like the fluid you'd put in a street lamp. Secondly, the boxes above you are nailed shut. They don't have any markings on them as to what they might contain, but if you somehow manage to pry the nails off you might be able to lighten them enough to push them off of you. Thirdly, Phosphorus could be out there looking for you. She could be trying to pry these crates off of you ask you speak! You can't hear anything though, you must have hit your head when the cart flipped over. You could try to communicate with her somehow. Again, assuming she's... you know, not the thing you're worried about her being. Fourthly, the cart is covered in a thick smoke, and more is being made every second. If you don't move fast, you'll certainly suffocate to death.
> What do you do?
>>
>>31907707
Can we use TK to pull the individual nails out?
>>
>>31907775
Yep, it'd take some time though.
>>
>>31907781
Maybe just some of them to weaken the hold until we can just pull the whole lid off of one box. Also, I'd like to use our light to get a better idea of what we're in.
>>
>>31907707
Huh. So some flammable fluids seeping in and we're in danger of burning alive if there is a random spark and suffocating from smoke. Guess we were attacked by the humans.
Duck it lets do nails.
>>
>>31907707
Maybe we should shout? If Phosphorus is nearby and searching, she might get a clue to our location. Then again, it could alert any nearby enemies. In the meantime, I guess our best bet is pulling out the nails and trying to dig ourselves out.
>>
>>31907972
what if there are some hostile anons from /k/ outside and they come to investigate out shouts?
>>
>>31907707
>tmw the train is already attacked.
So much for the training montage we're supposed to get at boot.
>your head feels like it's being smashed
>The pain nearly splits your skull in half
Oh boy, we might have some kind of head injury, or worse, a concussion. We have to have check that out once we get out of our little situation here.
I'd say we call out for PB first, not shouting in any way but more of a stage whisper so she can hear us in the container but not loud enough for someone outside to overheard. If that fails, then we pull out the nails. Shouting for PB is our final resort if somehow that doesn't work.
>>
>>31907972
oh sorry just read the second half of your post.
>>
>>31907985
>>31907972
An additional note to consider: Even if shouting as a last resort will attract the enemy, it is still better to have a slight chance of being taken as a POW (instead of getting killed on sight) than to have an even lesser chance to survive in the wreckage. Heavy smoke is serious business.
>>
>>31908037
I'm okay with this. I'm hoping we don't get killed right off the bat anyways.
>>
>>31908037
assuming they wont kill us?
>>
>>31908084
If we're facing a Western human military? Chances of them killing us is drastically reduced since they have ROEs specifically not to shoot surrendering enemies, them having value in human (or even pony life in our case) life is a good thing. If they're not though, well, let's hope it doesn't come to that.
>>
>>31907694
i'd be willing to give teleporting out if it would get us out of the flammable oil and deadly smoke. at least if we're outside we can run back the the tipped over train to look for Phosphorus.
>Secondly, the boxes above you are nailed shut. They don't have any markings on them as to what they might contain, but if you somehow manage to pry the nails off you might be able to lighten them enough to push them off of you.
hue. what if it was a box full of knifes and they 'accidentally' cascade over Lamp?
>>31907815
we should probably focus on pulling these nails until the lid can be pulled off or teleport away into infinity. because i don't know if Lamp can multi-cast light and telekinesis.
>>31902180
can she multi-cast? does she know a light spell?
>>
>>31908206
Illumination is a light spell, but no, you can't multicast yet. I'll add it to the spells you can learn for next time we get some upgrade points.
>>
>>31908206
I'm not saying multicast, just long enough to get a better look of our situation.
>>
>>31908134
they could be the shitty kind of humans? maybe some mercenaries? I wanna go with your stage whisper suggestion and not the one where we call out to them.
>>
You cast a small amount of light from your horn, careful not to let it get hot enough to set the fluid on fire. Looking around you spot a few more stacks of crates on the wall next to you. Anything further away was obscured by the smoke, including the hatch. Hopefully your light was obscured from the outside as well. You could only hope this would be obscured as well.
"Phos-" Your throat cracked a little from inhaling a bit of the smoke. Softly, you try again. "Phosphorus! Are- are you there?" As you speak you realize that you couldn't actually hear the words you just said. Even if she shouted back at you, there's no way you'd even notice.
Something shuffled to your right. You saw a crate slide down from the small pile, and a little bit of blue fur sticking out! It was such a small amount that you doubt anypony that's less perceptive then you would even notice! You say something again, and the crates shuffle more. She's gotta be under there! You quickly explain that you're trapped and you can't hear anything, but say that you'll get out in a second and get her next.
Shifting your focus to one of the crates above you, dropping your light spell as you wrap one of the nails on the side of the crate in your telekinetic field and start to pull. You've never been any good at telekinetic amplification, so you pull about as hard as you could with your hooves. The first nail pops out, and you let it drop to the ground. YYou ou quickly get to work on the second one.
I don't know if putting the shitty kind of humans into this CYOA would do them justice, especially since we will probably have a choice later on to switch our allegiance as mentioned earlier. I hope that what we will see is just your average western military with whatever technological changes the writer decides to implement.
>>
It takes a little bit of time, but eventually the wooden slab falls to the ground, spilling it's contents out onto the floor. The crates above you feel significantly lighter, so you give it a shove. Nothing, but you jostled some of the crates. You push harder and some of them slide to the floor! Giving one last shove, the crates above you slide off and you're free! You stand up, your legs aching from the pressure they'd been under. Looking at the ground you notice that the crate was carrying some weapon parts! Well, now they're weapons parts. Many look twisted and distorted, like a small bomb went off inside the crate. However, you spot one that still looks functional! You reach down with your hooves and gently pick it up, looking it over.
It's pretty small, about the size of your forehoof. It comes with a small strap to wrap around your hoof, with a small crystalline chamber that would rest on top of your arm. There's a magnifying lens, which has a crack through it; and a small barrel, which you assume is lined with glass to focus the energy. You're no weapons expert, but it looks like it'll still fire. That crack looks pretty nasty though. You're certain it'll do it's job, but there's a good chance it'll shatter completely after you fire it.
"Hey, I'm up and I found a small weapon. I'm gonna get you out, alright?" You say softly. The crates jostle a little bit in response.
> How do you get her out?
>>
>>31908317
We should look through the destroyed weapons for an intact lens when we can.
should we really? should we really do that while the train is burning?
>perception of 15
oh right. nvm.
>>
>>31908324
Search around and see if there's anything useful to help us push the crates off. If there's nothing of use, use our TK to get PB out - maybe even use our hooves as well.
>>
>>31908488
maybe we shouldn't lead in first with TK.
>>
>>31908741
Yeah, you got a point. Hooves then TK then.
>>
"Alright, I'm gonna try to get these off of you. Hold on."
You cough, the smoke's starting to get lower. In a couple of minutes there won't be any air left in here. Better work fast. You try to reach out and push the crates with your telekinesis, but your headache comes back in full force, spots swimming in the sides of your vision... how about we don't use the magic for a while, m'kay? M'kay. You reach up and try to shove the top crate off, but it hardly budges. It's a miracle Phosphorus wasn't crushed under this thing!
Looking around you spot something on the wall. You crawl underneath the smoke and reach up, coming back with a crowbar in hoof. You crawl back, wedging the crowbar underneath the top crate and puulling down with all your weight. The crate slides off easily, and the rest follow.
"Are you alright?" You say as you uncover the last of the crates. Phosphorus looks up at you with wide eyes, then looks back down to her- sweet celestia. Legs arent's supposed to bend that way. You feel bile rise in the back of your throat, but you choke it back down as you realise Phosphorus needs you.
You've bandaged small cuts and scrapes before, but you've never fixed a broken leg before. You don't even know if it counts as 'broken' at this point, it looks more like the entire bone was shattered! She certainly isn't gonna be able to move like this. You're surprised she isn't out cold from the pain itself! You've fixed up small scrapes and bruises before, but nothing like this!
>>
You could try to search through the crates for some supplies, but judging by all the smoke, you're running out of time. With all this smoke it's a miracle all the oil hasn't been set on fire yet! It'd be pretty risky to stay in here any longer.
You could try to pick her up and carry her out, but that means she'll have to deal with all the pain alongside dealing with whatever's out there. Plus it could get infected or hurt even worse, and at that point she might lose the leg entirely!
Alternatively, you could leave her and get out by yourself. You'd probably have a higher chance of getting out of here without having to carry around a pegasi with one leg out of commision. Granted, it'd be really nice to have the extra set of eyes as you two deal with everything out there... But then again, who knows what's going on out there anyways, and death from smoke inhalation is painless... right?
> What Do You Do?
>>31908741
>>31908488
Sorry, didn't notice until the first part was posted. Granted it didn't really have an immediate side-effects, so oh well.
>>
>>31908324
So, the first thing is that we don't want to use that weapon. It'd probably ignite everything, and burning ourselves and/or our new friend to death won't be a good idea.
Now, with that in mind: Look around to see if there's something we can use as a lever to help us move things, as that'll make heaving crates (or what's left of them) around a lot easier.
>>31908808
Ah fug, okay. Well, we'd be a real dick if we just left her behind. Infection is a risk, but a relatively minor one if the skin is unbroken. Further injuring the leg is a problem, but she's not going to be serving for a while anyhow - that's a 8-10 week recovery period if we get her treatment ASAP.
Still, it's going to hurt like a bitch when we move her. Give Phossy something to bite down on, and get her moving. Even if we have to leave her nearby, that's better than choking to death in smoke... because it is not painless. At all.
>>
>>31908808
That's what magic is for. Carry her out before we both die from monoxide.
>>
>>31908808
She already has six limbs, better risk it and get her out of there. Even if PB loses the leg to infection, it's better than losing her wings, losing those must be devastating for a pegasus.
>>
>>31908808
Try breaking open a hole or opening a door/hatch to let the smoke out.
>>
>>31908839
>Look around to see if there's something we can use as a lever to help us move things, as that'll make heaving crates (or what's left of them) around a lot easier.
shouldn't we be making our way to what was the roof hatch rather than spending time sorting through heavy crates?
>>
>>31908854
It's obvious that we have a bad concussion and can't use magic like that.
>>
>>31908888
I mean that's what magical medicine is for. later in the future.
>>
>>31908808
If we can make contact we medical personnel, that is.
>>31908938
Don't think it's too late for that, Anons. The smoke will get to us soon if we try.
>>
>>31908942
>>
i think i'd rather live and risk losing a limb than take a chance that there may be medical supplies that weren't destroyed by the attack.
>>
>>31908954
>>
>>31908959
You aren't the one risking it.
>>31908965
And if not even basic prosthetics exist in this world?
>>
>>31908999
we are both at risk of burning alive as soon as a wild spark gets near the oil and suffocating.
>>
>>31908999
>And if not even basic prosthetics exist in this world?
there is a giant magical obelisk in the capital, unicorns of yore used to move the celestial bodies, new tech is constantly being churned out of factories, you can turn animals into fruits, time travel, must I go on?
I think they have prosthetics down to a tie.
>>
>>31909016
Opening the hatch solves the suffocating and getting her near it would make for a quick escape before we burn. For all we know, we're all alone in the middle of th desert and this is our last chance for useful supplies. I'd also like to point out that wearen't at 100% and could use some medicine as well.
>>
>>31909091
That's only if the flames were already here. They aren't. We still have time.
>>31909116
really it takes less than a second for an oil flame to burn everything. you really think hers are worth the danger? You really believe in that Plot Armor?
isn't smoke typically created by a fire? it exists somewhere. if we saw the flames in the car then we would be dead already, wouldn't we? I take it as a sign to not push our luck. (our luck of zero)
>>
>>31909271
As in not here. That smoke could be coming from a long way off and even if the flames do reach the car, they'd still need to reach the oil before we're dead.
>>
>>31909338
>>31909350
I will say that there is a way to get the medical supplies with minimal searching, but it does require a small amount of time investment.
Getting Phosphorus out of the train car is gonna take a lot of time as is, if you try to get her out and then come back you'll almost certainly either run out of time and have the oil get set on fire beneath you, or won't be able to get back into the train car at all because the fire's already there.
As for the actual writing, I haven't done it yet. My food just finished cooking so I was planning on letting you guys hash things out for a bit longer while I ate :p
>>
>>31909380
fuck it we have plot armor to protect us.
use the crowbar to smash open all the crates until we find what we're looking for and something interesting, take it all outside then treat our new friend.
Fuck you and your "plot armor"
You stay in this train and smash everything, I can't say whether or not you'll die, but I know for certain that you'll regret it.
>>
>>31909380
Test the crates until we find a light one and open it.
>>
>>31909403
Even if we had said 'plot armor', we'll risk PB's life. I say we find the weakest point in the train container -- maybe the bullet holes, perhaps -- and break it down so we can get out.
>>
>>31909444
or we get out from the roof hatch we came from since this thing is on its sides.
>>
>>31909459
>Getting Phosphorus out of the train car is gonna take a lot of time as is, if you try to get her out and then come back you'll almost certainly either run out of time
It's more efficient to find what we need and than get us, her, and it out all at once.
>>
Since the majority seems to agree with >>31909459 that's what we're going with.
~~~

There's no time to dawdle, you've got to get out of here!

"Hold on, we've got to get you out of here somehow." You say. Phosphorus mouths something in response. Oh, right, you're deaf. You shake your head and point to your ears, and she points to your back.

"Oh!" You say. You really don't want to move her, but it's not like you have any other choice. You grab her chest and lift, slinging her across your back. If she screamed, you couldn't hear it. Let's just assume that she didn't scream.

You start to tread across the train car, trying to stay as low as possible to avoid the smoke while trying to go as fast as possible to avoid the potential fire. As you reach the hatch on the side, you see something in the far corner. It seems... brighter over there. Phosphorus starts slapping your flank, and you get the message. You drop down through the hatch as fire roars out, scorching your backsides as you fall.

~~~
That's all for tonight folks! I love the discussion that was going on, glad I was able to come up with something that was tricky to deal with :p
Also, sometimes when none of the options seem likeable, there's another way out. Since LL has such high perception, you'll almost always get the clues you need to be able to figure out how to do it. I only dropped hints this time because it was the first time, and because I forgot to set it up properly earlier.
We'll be live again tomorrow around 10PM EST again. See yall later!
Behold, ponies! This is the fate that awaits you on the battlefield - nothing but loss, terror, and grief! Your leaders throw you on into the jaws of death, but can you say they truly care for you? Can you say your sacrifices are bring a better world? Do they, in their gleaming palaces and high halls understand the suffering of the common pony?
We know that you - the soldiers of Equestria - wish only for peace and to return to your homes. Surrender now, and this may come to pass soon! You will not be mistreated; it is against our laws. You will not be killed; we do not want to see blood spilled needlessly either. You will only be held until the fighting ceases, and the you may return to your families safely.
Surrender now, and let this war end!
You fall to the ground with a wet plop. You can feel the air being crushed out of your lungs as Phosphorus lands on top of you. The ground beneath you feels slick, like it just rained. An explosion goes off as some mettalic constructs whips past overhead, leaving trails in the sky. Pegasi are engaging them, trying to divert them away from the train. Ahead of you a wave of bodies lies on the ground, some moving, some completely still. The fire still roars behind you, smoke plumes coating the area i a thin blanket of charcoal.
You shake your head. This place isn't safe, you've gotta get out of here! You start to pick yourself and Phosphorus up when she points towards one of the mettalic constructs, except this one's on the ground with fire and smoke roaring out the front. Does she want you to investigate it? Take cover there?
You look to your right, among the sea of bodies. Some ponies are still moving, you can even see a few staggering around in the wreckage. You could try to band together, find a safe place until the fighting dies down.
In front of you lies a small forest. However, in front of that is a massive open field, coated in slick mud. You'd have to go slow to make sure that you don't get mud in Phosphorus' wound, and you'd be exposed as you make the trek across towards the safety of the woods.
> What Do You Do?
>>31914460
>To the right, among the sea of bodies. Some ponies are still moving, you can even see a few staggering around in the wreckage. You could try to band together, find a safe place until the fighting dies down.
>In front lies a small forest. However, in front of that is a massive open field, coated in slick mud. You'd have to go slow to make sure that you don't get mud in Phosphorus' wound, and you'd be exposed as you make the trek across towards the safety of the woods.
I'm cross between investigating the burning wreckage and banding together with the survivors. What else can we tell form the metallic constructs? Are they Human vehicles? Are there dangerous humans crawling out? Is it safe to leave Phosphorus here?
>>
>>31914460
God damn, who the fuck are the morons piloting these things that they actually got in that close? Morons.
My advice is the wreckage. Survivors in the open may very well draw fire, but even that's better than humping it across a mudpit with an injured pony on our back?
>>
>>31914547
we could always try gathering them behind some cover and maybe loot the downed craft for weapons.
>>
>>31914513
The only hostiles are the mettalic constructs flying around, and as a pony, you don't recognize them. You don't know if they'd target one lone pony, but you aren't certain either. They certainly aren't anything you've seen in canterlot. Nothing is moving in the wreckage though.
>>
>>31914604
Try to get their attention and move them out of the open, then investigate the wreckage.
>>
You decide to follow Phosphorus' advice and start to crawl over to the wreckage. The constructs are still screaming through the air, Pegasi hounding them and keeping them away from the train. Now that you're a small distance away, you can see the rest of the train. Well, what's left of it at least. There's a small crater where the front of the train used to be, and an inferno on top of the coal cart. The fire spread backwards, lighting up the tipped-over passenger cart like a lantern. Another crater sat next to the passenger cart. Between the explosion and the flames, nopony left in there could have survived.
As you reach the metallic construct Phosphorus motions for you to put her down under a section. It's triangular, shaped almost like a wing. Except it didn't look like it could move. You wonder how they can fly like that? You set Phosphorus down under the wing, and sit down yourself. Your head is still spinning a little from everything, and since there's no immediate danger you figured you might as well take some time to plan your next move.
As you take in the surroundings, you notice the survivors from the passenger cart start to group up. Almost all of them are cut and scraped up from the explosion. You try to wave and get their attention, but none of them notice.
You and Phophorus are still injured, and the constructs are still engaging the Pegasi in the air above you. For now you're safe, but that could change at any moment.
>>
>>31914993
>whistle to who?
Ponies who survived the attack.
>>
>>31914758
I say we stay under the crashed aircraft. The group is probably a visible and tempting target to our enemies, and joining up with them will greatly increase our chance of being attacked.
The aircraft wing provides a great hiding spot, and we should hide there until the battle is over. And don't use strobe, it will reveal our position to our enemies.
Also, fighting is not an option considering we are not a pegasus and don't have any combat training.
>>
>>31916496
Oh rly?
>>
>>31917123
On second thought, since Phosphorus is badly injured we may want to try and get their attention anyway to get someone to tend to Phosphorus' legs. Maybe we could throw something towards them? Or maybe the aircrafts are too busy fighting the pegasi to notice if we use strobe? We could also quickly trot over to them and ask if anyone could help.
I think I'm gonna vote strobe. And if the aircraft looks rather intact and is burning it may not be the best hiding spot considering it might explode, but I guess we wouldn't know that.
>>
>>31914918
Seconding this, use our strobe from underneath cover and hope nothing up there sees it.
