he was talking about skrillex and deadmau5 (brostep) and that type of shit. op is an underage hack who doesn't know anything about music.

dubstep = 2 step + dub
>>
>>79434658

still, all op said was "remember dubstep"

how are you so sure he was talking about skrillex? if he didnt feel the need to specify any further maybe he was referring to the actual definition of dubstep and youve been listening to shit music this whole time
>>
>>79434798
I don't believe that for a second

The "dubstep" craze of like 2009 to 2012 wasn't even dubstep, it was brostep. Artists like Skrillex RARELY had dub in their music.
Listen to like 1 song by Scientist and tell me if that sounds reminiscent of any music during that period; I can guarantee it does not.

Did Americans ever actually get to hear normal dubstep? Did they have the scene/culture for it? Or were they only ever fed the EDM/festival stuff?
>>
>>79438109
not an argument
>>79438163
the hard hitting brostep was pretty much exclusively what americans thought dubstep was
then it became a bigger dick measuring competition of what sound can make the hardest drop
>>
all of "EDM" is a combination of various european electronic music genres dumbed down to sell it to americans along with pretty faced DJs that don't even DJ and producers that don't actually produce their songs
the biggest fraud of the century
>>
>>79438196
what song** can make the hardest drop

>>
>>79438196
i'd argue that because the vast majority of people think of skrillex instead of burial when they hear the word dubstep that that's what dubstep de facto is. it's the same as how emo was gradually retconned to refer to all kinds of loser rock
>>
>>79438210
normal people who want to dance and have fun don't have the time or the interest in autistic microgenre hair splitting
>>
>>79438447
You're kind of making his point because you could just as easy say that normal people who want to dance and have fun don't have the time or the interest to care about quality music
>>
>>79438447
it's not about demand it's about supply
>>
OP probably complains about current music on Queen music videos and everyone else ITT are once again proving /mu/ should stop talking about electronic music.

>anyone who cares about quality is not "normal"
>what are you, a nerd? hahaha

>>79438515
Correct. 100 years ago everyday people listened to classical, and no one needed to force them to. The modern listener has been conditioned to trash and lost the ability to discern quality along the way, but watch out, if you bring that up they'll call you arrogant and a thousand other names. How dare you define quality? Anything can be great! It's all relative :)
>>
>>79438702
I hate to break this to you anon but in 1918 classical still wasn't mainstream pop.
It was dancehall music, the EDM of the era, basically.
You'd have to go back another hundred years or so to get to the point where classical was considered pop, and even then, most people listened to/performed garbage-tier parlour music type songs, not Lizst.
>>
>>79438906
I didn't imply classical was pop, I said "normal" people listened to classical. These days the audience is either old people or someone from an elite family who was introduced to it as a kid. Saying people listened to classical does not equate saying there was no pop.
>>
Dubstep was better than 00’s

there is good dubstep
