Industrial Metal is better than Death Metal

NIN and Rob Zombe are better than any of these ridiculous bands

Anthrax were better than Metallica

You just haven’t found the band that you would truly like.

Pentagram deserves more recognition and should be regarded as the true creator of heavy metal

Heavy Metal was invented by the blacks.

>>
>>80112819
never said that, but brutal death metal and hyperspeed death was not really around in the early days. and most of the newer ones (after 90') had this awful production and click click drums that ruin death metal for me at least.
>>
grindcore is metal
>>80112498
I also don't understand it. Death metal is really fucking diverse. I understand not liking Brutal Death, Melodeath or old school death but all of it?
>>
I only listen to caverncore anyway
>>
>>80112971
>grindcore is metal
kinda depends on the band, the early grindcore stuff was not metal in any way.
>>
most of the albums on the numale chart vary from decent to excellent
>>
Reign in Blood is grossly overrated in terms of musicality (not in terms of its impact on extreme metal as a whole). Show No Mercy is the best Slayer album.
>>
>>80112498
I really can't get into Black Metal at all. It's the closest subgenre I come to actively disliking since I just really don't like anything that comes from it.

As for Death metal, Melodeath is the main one that appeals to me since I'm typically drawn to more folk or melodious tunes.
>>
>>80112343
A lot of people think this.
>>
>>80112343
>Death Metal sucks
>Black Metal sucks worse and is twice as edgy, if that is even possible
>Grindcore literally only exists so that bands can say "we are a grindcore band"
>Anyone who claims "grindcore" is not metal or metal inspired is an actual faggot who is in cock withdrawal
>Nu Metal gets a bad rap (play on words not intended) for a lot of the shittier bands of the era
>"Break Stuff" is a classic song for when you are pissed off
>Limp Bizkit is talented musically, but the lyrics are absolute trash which makes a lot of their music cringe-worthy when it is not completely unlistenable
>"Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" are two of the best albums from the decade they came from
>DEP deserved every bit of respect the got from the Ire Works era and prior, but their sound was completely copy/paste from that point onwards until Disassociation
>Miss Machine is better than Calculating Infinity and Ire Works
>the best song from Calculating Infinity is the title track; second best is 43% burnt; rest of the album is meh
>Metalcore is a good genre in concept, and sometimes in practice, but trash bands have ruined its name
>Incubus is an underrated nu-metal band (Make Yourself & Morning View)
>Punk has historically been a more creatively saturated genre than metal
>Anything Norwegian is pretty much automatically trash; the only things from/inspired by the region that I can tolerate are Amon Amarth and Refused (not sure if Sweden is even that close to Norway)
>>
>>80113437
>Melodeath is the main one that appeals to me
confirmed for having normie taste with no right to an opinion on anything metal
>>
The 2000's metalcore boom was a great thing to happen to heavy metal. Got a bunch of kids into music that actually shares real lineage with the proper stuff, unlike nu metal

For the record I'm talking about stuff like Killswitch, All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Unearth etc
>>
>>80113640
that boom started a couple of years earlier, in the early to mid 90's, the 2000 era is when it turned into this thing people call metalcore today.

>>80112343
overproduction of death metal sucks

little bit of death metal like Cause of death, SBG, Tomb of the mutilated... little is good, but a lot is bad since it gets repetative and dull after a while
>>
>>80112343
Not liking death metal is not an unpopular opinion, dude. MOST people don't like death metal. I didn't used to like death metal when I was first getting my feet wet in the metal scene, now I can't get enough of it. Just keep looking, man.
>>
if you want to send a message, or if you're delussional that your metal songs make any difference in the world you should off yourself since you're putting riffs on second place and your agenda on first place
metal is only and all about riffs
>unless
if it's an artsy project that shouldn't be taken seriously but rather as an artsy project

nu male chart just makes fun of what gets into top tier charts
rust in peace is an absolute masterpiece but high praise and popularity is why it gets sorted in numale chart

>Metalcore is a good genre in concept, and sometimes in practice, but trash bands have ruined its name
>Incubus is an underrated nu-metal band (Make Yourself & Morning View)

fucking agreed, but i dissagree here:
>Anything Norwegian is pretty much automatically trash; the only things from/inspired by the region that I can tolerate are Amon Amarth and Refused (not sure if Sweden is even that close to Norway)
And i'm not making reference to "le edgy inner circle bands".
>>
reign in blood has 2 good songs, front and back, the rest is easily forgetable

>>80113612
>thinks nu metal, metalcore, melodeath are good
>thinks amon amarth is good
>actually believes hybrid theory was good
mate, I know that plenty of fags listen to metal to be edgy
I honestly take approach that riffs and guitar solos come before vocals and lyrics
grind and thrash is for exercise
doom and stoner is for relaxation
death is for inner hatred
black is for depression
metalcore and nu metal are for angst, we all go through this emotions (I'm quite emotional when I exercise), some more and some less, and apropriate metal is taken for the apropriate emotion

high saturation in melodeath and metalcore just says how much angst you deal with, metalcore has some great works like arkangel and for the love of my left eye I can't remember any other example but the point is: it can be good, of course it can, but oversaturation is bad
>>
Where do you live that liking death metal is popular?

Blood Incantation, Chthe'ilist, Timeghoul, Opeth, Be'lakor, Ulcerate all good death metal

This also. For example I don´t like Sodom but Asphyx fucking rule, so does Death and Sepultura, all of them have very different styles from one another. So I don´t think this isn´t as much an unpopular opinion as it is a very weird personal preference.

Got any good Norwegian picks? I didn't say that to be a shithead. I just haven't come across many Norwegian acts that have really tickled my fancy.

>>80114074
I like your analysis, but do you really think Death Metal is for self-hatred and Black is for depression? Not necessarily disagreeing, I just don't see it personally. For me, in the metal world, Death Metal seems to exemplify hatred of the outside world, whereas black metal is more just nihilism in a music genre. Metalcore has always historically covered self-hatred and angst (I think you are absolutely right about the angst part).

Is there anyone in particular that makes you say the thing about death/black metal?

I honestly don't know how anybody who knows bands like Obituary could think death metal sucks. They're just a great rock band. It's fun stuff.

>>80112403
I would've partially agreed with you if you had said Godflesh. But you said Rob Zombie, so I'm just shaking my head.

>>80112412
That's a fine opinion, but I don't think Anthrax ever did an album as good as Kill Em All

>>80112445
Nah, but Hendrix was a huge influence. Also, Crossover Thrash was at least inspired by blacks (Bad Brains), and Brutal Death Metal was partially invented by blacks (half of Suffocation).
>>
>>80115567
since I'm not a native english speaker I find it easy to tune out of what vocalist sings, leaving the voice as just another instrument
for me death metal has melodies that scream HATERED, MURDER, PAIN, GORE, AGRESSION
wheres black metal sometime has somewhat shizophrenic feel to it, most of second wave for me shouts agony, inner pain, depression, cold, darkness, emptiness, evil inside.. just listening to some bm makes me feel like I've been through hell and I finnaly reached purgatory

everyone responds differently to music, so I don't find it odd that people perceive death metal and black metal the same as I do

I said BB inspired it, not invented it. But that said, I don't know Blast, so I'll have to check that out.

The think about Bad Brains, is that they totally inspired those New York bands like Cro-Mags, who really laid the foundation for the genre.

Death's 1990 output trumps more or less everything else in OP's image, in my opinion. I don't detest brutality, but their technicality as well as Chuck's lyricism have a special place in my heart.
>>
>>80119253
This. I'm not a huge fan of Mastodon's earliest or latest output. Remission I didn't mind, but Leviathan and Crack the Skye are both fairly good. I much prefer the latter's proggier elements and its concept is absolutely trippy and imaginitive.
