You get a little, but not really. /gg/ isn't a good learning environment anyways, go to a real website. There's good information in the OP, but for the most part it's just people that don't have gear arguing over gear, namefaggotry, and total fucking novices. If you have money, gear, or skill, or want to talk to normal people, go to a real discussion board.

Any unfinished neck with SS will play better (especially if they're vintage sized wire). This is why on proper guitars (like Wolfgangs) you don't have to do retarded shit like swap the neck because they actually use good necks designed to play well. However, regular quartersawn and a birdseye board would have looked better imo. This sort of clashes homie.

I'm just busting your balls over the color. Honestly if you got a raw SS neck that makes you smarter then most of GG. Oil it a few times a year unless you're a greasy fatfuck that lubes the neck when he plays. I use like 5$ mineral oil, some people use seed oil, some use seed or lemon or lavender oil (although there is a claim that organic oils will eventually"rot" which may or may not be bullshit).

How do I get started on learning some fast licks and light shredding? I have played for more than ten years, but I was always content with working on fingerstyle, melodic leads and nice chord progressions. I dont really know how to play fast with my left hand at all, and I hardly ever use a pick.

How do I practice for 5 hours a day and stay focused
>>
>>81452911
idk, with a gun to your head? how would you manage that and keep a real job? oh...
>>
Man, as a primarily fingerstyle player when it comes to the acoustic guitar, FUCK traditional Irish music.

My fingers are more than fast & accurate enough to play some of the fastest Irish jigs, which is something I'm studying heavily right now for future songwriting purposes, but the complex rhythm at some of these really high speeds is throwing me off super hard.

If anyone has any experience with this shit, what worked for you? Should I be slowing it down until I get the hang of the rhythm? I haven't had to do that for a song in a while... Or should I keep forcing it? Something else?
>>
>>81452911
This is coming from some who regularly plays eight hours a day: you can't really focus properly for more than 45 minutes at a time. I like to do each exercise for half an hour at a time, and spread them out throughout the day.

Honestly, I improve far more when I only play two hours a day then when I play six. You only actually improve if you play the exercise perfectly every time.
>>
>>81452943
>Should I be slowing it down until I get the hang of the rhythm? I haven't had to do that for a song in a while..
Dont let your ego get the better of you. That's a solid way to learn anything

How long are they supposed to last?
>>
>>81453338
Wash your hands before you play, and wipe your strings down before and after you play.

Alternatively, just use Elixirs. They last for months of daily play, works out much cheaper than regular strings.

Anyone else like to use custom string gauges on some of their acoustic guitars? I recently moved from the standard elixir lights, kind of, on a ton of my acoustics. Now use an 11/14/24/32/42/53 setup, still elixirs, with strings 24/32/42/53 being from the light box so it's not a total custom overhaul. Loving it.

It will not intonate properly with your typical acoustic saddle, which is compensated for a wound G string.
You can kind of sort of half get away with it by detuning the G string ever so slightly so it's very slightly flat open and very slightly sharp fretted. That's what I've been doing.

Yeah I definitely hear the influence. This is nice. I think if you dimed the reverb back a bit on this track and added a bass track that played the underlying root note of those low chords you play and let it ring out, it would be really nice.

>Tonewood is a myth. It's been thoroughly debunked.
That's large variations in tone between types of wood, retard. Synthetic materials have a unique sound comparatively. Just look at early steinbergers, or anything with an aluminum neck or phenolic fretboard. The difference is instantly recognizable.
>>
>>81455904
holy shit at least one of those is a twelve string and they all sound generic as all hell. who cares, dude, it just sounds like acoustic guitar and so does yours

Just a guitar, the world won't end if you don't have maple.
Actually, why did you buy it in first place if you were going to be worrying about it all the time.
>>
>>81456279
Because I thought the maple one sounded thin at the shop and the mahogany would compensate it. But now Im realizing the reference does sound treblier and that is a good thing, even more for a band setting.

I don't think you can safely judge the tone of an acoustic guitar as recorded by a phone/camera several feet away like that. It needs to be properly mic'd for you to be able to safely judge its tone, and even then it helps to know the frequency response of the mic used.

I've been learning a bunch of Sonic Youth songs and they all have weird turnings like GABDEG for example. If I leave my guitar in alternate turnings like that overnight can it mess up my neck? Should I always return my guitar to standard tuning at the end of the day?
>>
>>81461963
Piss off, Roman
>>
>>81461963
Won't damage your neck unless you do something ridiculous like tune an octave up.

However, your guitar really should be set up for a new tuning to play properly.
>>
>>81461963

As long as the strings aren't like hilariously tense there won't really be any damage to your guitar, but if you plan on having them like that forever you do need to adjust the tension and shit. A set up would be necessary cause a lot of their tunings aren't really same tension as standard guitar and would be a hassle to play.
Also F#F#F#F#GA and F#F#F#F#EB are the best SY tunings.
>>
>>81462051
This is the true Roman trying to give stupid advice so you fuck up your guitar.
Changing the tensions often also will ruin your neck, the neck needs to settle down.
Nice try, Roman
