Why are millennials constantly in a state of seethe about people younger than them and people older than them?
All you hear in any millennial dominated space is "boomer this" and "zoomer that"
>>

frutiger aero is getting a bit played-out after churning through tiktok more recently, but it is not a buzzword. people in general are over soulless, gray corpo minimalism and it's easy to reference and recreate.
It's a product of a bygone era when people were optimistic about the future and technology's role in life

I don't have a car with adaptive cruise control. I also don't have a highway work commute; but if I'd been busting my ass at work all day and I had a long highway commute home I can't say that I'd be above letting the car drive itself.

Are wilwood brakes any good?
I keep getting brake fade driving on local mountain roads.
I tried race pads, but they still ran too hot and destroyed my rotors.(DTC60s)

Not assuming you are dumb, but are you running TYP200 brake fluid or at least fresh brake fluid? Are you sure none of your calipers are sticking? First things to check.

As far as Wilwood, yea, they will be better than whatever is stock on most sporty cars under 40k. I wouldn't spend that much, but since you have a clear use case apparently, it might make sense.

Before dieselgate it was very popular in Europe and I cannot understand why.
>Most Europeans do city driving, only driving few km to the shops and to work
>So you know what. Let's get a car that will kill itself in less than a year if you only drive short journeys
I never understood this. Why did Europeans drive cars that required that you drive it 40 minutes on a highway or else it's going to kill itself.

Europoors bought them for the potential cost savings in fuel because they've been brainwashed since birth that efficiency is the most important aspect of life.
Thats it.
Thats the secret.
>>
Government policies favoring diesel.
Diesel being cheaper.
Diesel being more efficient (high fuel costs in Europe).

Why different from the US?
Because gasoline has historically been insanely cheap in the US so none of these were ever a concern. We have a ton of refineries and the highest light crude production in the world. In most of the US diesel is more expensive than gasoline.

Another advantage is that diesel isn't burning as easily as gasoline as it forms no explosive atmosphere.
And the motor can run with vegetable oil if needed.
Unfortunately many of the other advantages have been lost in modern high end diesel engines which are now more complicated than gasoline engines.
>>
>>28979054
>vegetable oil
Nobody gives a shit.
The cheapest vegetable oil is twice the price of gasoline.
Youre not going to wake up to a zombie apocalypse and raid the fryer at KFC for "fuel" and this isnt the 80s where restaurants would pay you to haul off their used oil.
If we ran out of crude oil we could easily convert to ethanol- which is cheaper to produce than vegetable oil.

Why doesn't anyone like George Russell in F1?
>>
I just got my brakes replaced by a shop. I nearly drove out into traffic when I pulled out of their driveway because the brake pedal's travel distance has vastly increased. I used to just touch the brake and I'd stop, now I have to push it most of the way to the floor.

Is this how brakes are supposed to be, or should I go back and ask them to do something to change it?

Also, my dashcam is behaving weirdly now -- it keeps restarting while I'm driving (it plays a jingle every time it powers up). I think the power is cutting out intermittently to it. Is this something that they might have damaged while fixing the brakes??!?

He constantly whines to the stewards about imaginary infractions by other drivers. Hasn't matured after several years in the sport. British press and commentary teams always suck him off.
>>
>>28979172
1. he has come across as whiny and privileged, which is fine if you have off the track rizz (Norris) or are actually winning lots of races on track (Lewis)

2. his on track conduct has also earned him the nickname “osama bin russell” since he generally overdrives his car which causes on track incidents. he has always lived in the shadow of another driver (Lewis/Kimi) despite perceiving himself as the mercedes #1

3. he races for mercedes, who is the least liked team on the grid

He could probably do a lot of good going to another team, he would be a good replacement for Verstappen at RB of Verstappen ever leaves.
>>
>>28979177
Without knowing what kind of car you have I’m going to assume this is a hydraulically boosted system and not a newer eboost system.

how hard you push the pedal is what generates your overall deceleration in a hydro boost system. But the torque that the caliper/pad/rotor is able to provide is a function of two things
1. friction material state
2. air in the caliper

1 can be broken up into 2 parts.
A. if they did not burnish the brakes then you are still driving around in the break in period which will eventually settle. Find a gravel road and do 5-10 hard brake applies to finish the burnish.
B. They used shitty pads and rotors, which you’ll just have to live with

If there is air in the calipers (2) then the caliper will not evenly apply the pad to the rotor reducing the overall torque. This can be fixed with a brake bleed, which should typically be the last step of a brake job.

Idk about the dashcam, that seems unrelated. Check its wiring, I doubt it’s caused by the shop.

Hello /o/, I have been learning to drive stick for the past few months and am getting better every time I go out. However, as I get better the more apprehensive my parents seem to be about me getting a manual car. They just go on and on about how horrible they are to daily drive. Are they really that bad or are my parents just bitch made?
54 replies and 1 image omitted. Click here to view.

They're not horrible to drive, on the contrary they make driving more enjoyable because you're more engaged in the process. If I was dictator I'd make all cars manual

That said, there are SO many other factors to consider when getting a car and being a stickler about manual is just gimping yourself out of sheer autism. The only justification I could possibly agree with is if you're a new driver and you have something to prove to yourself (or others), and you're willing to admit to yourself that this is why. Probably, you are american and being able to shift all by yourself is seen as a huge flex, because life in general is designed with a "think of the children" mentality that dumbs everything down and your brain is desperate for anything at all that makes you feel alive

Otherwise, pick the car you really want, and if it's available in stick (it probably isn't), then go for it. But don't fuck yourself over just to drive a stick because /o/ said you need one or that they're somehow "better" in a fundamental way

you are not able to immediately accelerate if you are in neutral, which realistically will probably never be an issue but its critical in an emergency situation (impending accident). also keeping it in gear is more fuel efficient, as you are wasting gas putting it back into gear. at low speeds it makes sense but at high speed i would rather have full control over the vehicle

if it's cast iron a bolt will melt long before the cast iron block even gets to temp if you have an acetelyne torch.
I used to take my cast iron heads and torch broken studs out by cutting them flush and liquifying them out, drilling into them helps them come out faster and usually the threads survive after a tap is ran through them.
