I was literally tripping over Harleys at the Honda dealership today.
They just can't get rid of them.

In a related note, I was there because I just picked up a new bike. VF750C.
I asked the parts guy for a repair manual, and he said it doesn't exist.
Like literally. He couldn't even order the official Honda technical manual.
What do, DBT? I've never been without a clymer.
I'm scared, bro.
>>
>>19848316
that's bullshit
there is a manual somewhere maybe it common for multiple model of this bike but it exist
>>
Is there any point getting an inline 4 if you're not gonna take it to the track?
Have a 2 cylinder sportbike, linear power etc, but I'm drawn to the appeal of a 4 cylinder. However, would it be a waste of money getting something with that non linear powerband if I'm not taking it to a track? Going fast on the roads is great and all but going 2-3 times over the speed limit near max revs in any given gear isn't something I'll be able to get away with regularly.

No, liter bikes are useless for anything but racing
Pushing a 600 to its limits on the street is pretty unsafe as it is. But most people just get them to seem cool so it doesn't really matter

UK here, I'm getting a Royal Enfield Himalayan as my first bike as I can get it new from a close dealer without breaking the bank. For any other bike I want i'd have to arrange travel for 200+ miles and trust a random stranger not to fuck me over, whereas if I buy new I get 2 years warranty.

Apparently they've fixed a lot of the problems that usually exist with royal enfields. Surely it's a decent choice, going by my situation, right?
>>
>>19848449
It's actually bigger than my house, but my mom fulled it with furniture from the old house we couldn't fit
We have a 2nd garage too, also full of shit she is "working on getting rid of"

>>
>>19848502
Apparently they've tested it out thoroughly on the poos before bringing it out internationally and it's a solid deal at £4k brand new. I'm not expecting Japanese quality but every review i've looked at seems impressed by the progress they've made.
>>
>>19848487
If your only other choices are over 200 miles away maybe you should broaden your criteria.

Also >what is getting any bike you're serious about buying inspected by a qualified mechanic before you buy it

It's you're money, but RE are shit and a 2 year warranty isn't going to change that.
>>
>>19848487
keep up with maintenance and you'll be fine
>>
>>19848487
Just no.
Get something from one of the big 4 Jap manufacturers. That way you can learn about maintenance on a bike that probably won't break.
THEN you buy a bike like this where you need to know how to fix it before you can ride more than 10 miles.

Also, that bike is such a piece of shit i use it to compare with unironic midsized scooters with smaller engines, and the Himalayan comes off worse. it loses more power than a fucking CVT and makes no extra torque than a 300cc scooter whilst making 5hp less. how is it that bad?
>>
son of guzzi doctor, i need your input. i contacted the guy selling the v50 and this is what i got:

"It definitely needs tires. The ones on the bike are showing some cracking from age. I have never owned one of these before. It seems like it could use some more carb tuning but not sure if it is just how it performs. Feels like it could have a little more power but not sure. It runs and drives fine but could be better. I think it just depends on what you are after appearance wise. The fairing does not appear to be original. The dent on tank and chipped taillight plastic shown in pics could use attention. It is a sub $3k Italian Vintage bike. I think it is priced fair as it sits but could be made into a good restoration too."

should i still go for it? the lack of power has me a little worried. with winter coming around i could spend time working on it, but i'm not really looking for a money sink either.

Just so you know what I had in mind I'm thinking of getting a Kawasaki ZX6R or the equivalent from Yamaha/Honda. Litrebike v4 is the dream but way more performance than I need for the roads around here unless I'm actually going racing (not likely)
Just wanna make sure I'm respecting the bike you know? Feels like a crime if I were to buy a performance machine like that and not use it anywhere near its potential

It is absolutely great, hard pack terrain. It's actually ok in sand once you get it spun up but garbage in mud. Also having no side lugs takes some getting used to, in fact even after riding on that tire for some time now the last time I went out on it I spaced that fact and low sided it hauling ass on a fast groomed dirt section.

I'd look into something like the Kenda Equilibrium. Has many characteristics of the trials tire but with side knobs and slightly larger knob spacing.

I mean it's a heron head 500, it's gonna be slow as fuck, there's nothing to be done about that. As far as handling I dunno, I haven't ridden the thing but unless it's been crashed that's just how it handles, it's not a sportsbike really. Aesthetic stuff is just that, it's going to be beat up for that price. Going for it is up to you, if you're really set on something vintage and weird for your first bike (this is your first bike right?) It's probably the best choice but really you'd be better off with a ninja 250 or something.

It sounds like you could talk him down though, he doesn't sound very confident, just push on the carbs and tuning and shit.

>>19848676
The majority of what I ride is SoCal desert mountains which is hard pack with rocks and such. Very rarely do I find mud of any kind so it’s not a worry. I’ll look in to getting one after my next tire dies but thanks for the heads up on the cornering factor. Do any good rides or have any planned?

I know what you mean. I told myself when I got the V4 that I wouldn't ride it like a bitch, that I'd let it do what it was made to do. A lot of desolate but very well kept roads around here, and an amazing track roughly an hour away. So I have plenty of opportunities to open her up and bang on the rev limiter. Also fun busting power wheelies on the way to work.

non removable liner, but the chest vents flow directly to the body. The Sand 3 is a good option if you want full removable liners.
>>

Okay, so I like classic looking bikes, can't get a suzuki because apparently shitzuki, Honda CB1100 looks good, but anything decent looks to be 4.5k+ used. A yamaha sr400 will run me about 4k used. A kawasaki w800 is about 4.5k. used.

Unless you mean a 125 jap bike or something. To be honest i'm not sure riding something I don't like the look of and am uncomfortable with (leaning way forward) is going to be a good choice at all.

It is a great tire in the rocks, the good thing is they are pretty cheap so you can try it out without spending a whole lot and ditch it if it's not for you. Trials tire seems to be the type of thing people either love or hate. I haven't been on many rides lately, just short stuff. We are just rolling into riding season here so hopefully I'll get out more.

yeah, it would be my first bike. i just really like UJM style bikes. i was originally going to get a honda cb but anything cheap seems to be not running or was molested, and anything half decent gets listed for ~$3000. there's a nice cb650 like 5 minutes from me but the guy has been relisting it for $2700 for two months now.

i know getting a vintage bike as my first is not the optimal choice, but i'm peculiar about my tastes and i know from experience that even if i follow valid advice, but compromise on what i want then i won't be happy with it.

i'll take your advice and i'll also lowball him a bit and see how he responds. if he gets upset i can always just contact him from another email.

I tried the VFR800 before buying. Actually felt bad during the test run, every time the engine dropped below 4k.
Seems like the Magna is pretty happy about there, but it runs smoothly down to 3k. Is it...."healthy" to leave there? For situations like bad weather.

Oil change is a definite, just so you know exactly when the last one was done. Clutch/brake fluids if it's really old. Check brake pads, replace them if they're worn. Check the manufacturing date on the tires and make sure they aren't more than 2 years old. Sometimes bikes can look like the tires are new, but they're actually old and have gotten hard as fuck.
>>
>>19848732
Suzuki is one of the top four most reliable bike brands in the world. The other three are the other big three Jap manufacturers.
If you want a bike that looks a certain way then okay, but don't go into this thinking this will be a long relationship. You;re going to want more power in a few months, and by then you'll have a better idea what your other priorities are.

Re-posting as I have asked the for the wrong bike,

KLR 650 yay or nay? Looking for a dual sport that can do highway on the cheap.

If yay is it worth going from a 650 cc to a 719 cc by changing the piston and boring the cylinder.

>KLR 650 yay or nay?
Nay it's a piece of shit that's outclassed in every way by every other dual sport unless you use it as a street bike, in which case just buy a street bike. Literally the only reason to buy a KLR is if you're an extreme poorfag and can not affort to spend more than $1500 on a bike, which basically means you shouldn't buy a bike.

>If yay is it worth going from a 650 cc to a 719 cc by changing the piston and boring the cylinder.
It's still going to be 100lbs overweight so the extra 8hp isn't going to do shit.

Spend $3k on a 96+ DR650 or a WR250R, hell even a DRZ400S.

it seems pure cruisers are going to be too wide and not nimble enough to lane split

Anybody have experience on the fit of alpinestars vs dainese jackets?
I have two dainese jackets at size 56, which I bought after I was fitted at the official dainese store. The way I understand it dainese jackets after size 54 have a little extra around the waist and are usually pretty generous around the shoulders and chest area. There's a new alpinestars jacket that I want to buy and nowhere where I can try it on. According to revzilla's size chart it seems alpinestars either fits more snug or is tailored to lankier individuals because it puts me at a very snug 54.
>>

Don't write the guy off just yet, I'd honestly consider it somewhat rude to negotiate through email or text, with the several bikes I've bought off of Craigslist I've always seen the bike and test rode it and then either made an offer on the spot or came back a day or two later and made an offer in person, if someone starts shooting offers before they've even seen the bike they're either stupid or your your price is too low, the possible exception is with uncommon bikes that someone is having to drive fairly far to look at.
>>
>>19848664
that picture is ironic because you are on a freedomobile while infront of a place of no freedom.
>>
>>19849562
It's a pretty good bike overall, however it's only real advantage over any of the other 650 Dual Sports is cost and gas tank size, at least around here in Virginia you can get a KLR in the same condition as a DR650 for around 75% of the cost or 50% of an XR650L.

I own both a Gen-2 KLR and a DR650, the KLR was my first bike and I rode the shit out of it, as long as you do the doohickey and don’t buy an 08 you'll have no issues with the engine and it warms up much faster than the other air cooled 650s, however I've recently found myself riding the DR650 more often, I personally prefer the gearing, with the KLR your in 5th at 50 and at 70 your looking at 5K rpm, with the DR your not thinking about 5th until around 60-65 so the RPM at highway speed is much more manageable. If you plan on doing any dirt riding other than gravel roads get a DR, the KLR’s weight is the one thing you can’t do anything about however you can make the DR much more manageable offroad by uncorking it and doing some suspension mods and you can make it just as good as a KLR onroad with a better seat and windscreen for about 300$.

If cost is the only factor go with the KLR, you’ll be able to find a good deal way faster since they’re significantly more common, however if your willing to wait for a few months to a year for a deal to come up on a DR I think it’s a marginally better bike overall.

>>19849633
If your 5'6" unless you've got at least a 30" inseam your going to have to lower either bike.

How do you run your bike when it's cold?

>go to start up
>stutters and cuts out

How do you warm it up, do you just idle it for a few minutes or ride it gently until it gets warm? Or do you pour hot water on the engine?
>>
>>19849977
use the choke you cuck
>>
>>19849979
Tried that last night but the bike started stuttering and jerking in 3rd gear, I wasn't sure if it was the carbs needing a clean or just the choke and cold engine.

Do you turn the choke off after starting it?
>>
>>19849977
I recently heard that its not good to idle for too long to warm up on the stand because oil being on one side, so I just idle a bit on the stand and then warm up just coasting in 1st and second and 3rd getting out for a while.
>>
>>19849977
>>19849983
When you Choke the bike all it's doing is enriching the mixture for a short period of time, if your bike is jetted properly when it's at operating temperature choking it should cause it to stall, the proper procedure is to choke the bike to start it, ride off for a bit, and then turn off the choke once the engine gets up to operating temperature, if you keep it on too long the bike will stall, if you turn it off too early the bike will bog if you try and accelerate.
>>
Is armour overkill for regular ~70mph road usage? My instinct is to kit up to the max to minimise chances of becoming a cripple but boy do the prices add up. I take it i’d need a full suit to fit the armour into?
>>
>>19849995
Sounds like I didn't have the bike warm enough and maybe should have had the choke on a bit more for a few minutes.

I used to ride this badboy to work every day, and when I was getting ready to leave I'd start it with the choke out, go inside, get dressed, come out, gear up, and by the time those few minutes passed the bike was finally warmed up enough to push the choke in and start running. Then I'd have about 3/4 of a mile of straight residential road before hitting the main street, so I took her slow and easy in second/third gear and kept the revs somewhat low until I hit the main street. By the time I got there she was warm enough to ride normal.

>mirrors look shit
What don't you like about them anon?
>the handlebars are too high
Handlebars are at legal minimum height required to sell the motorcycle.
>smaller radiator looks shit
This smaller radiator is nearly half the cost, half the weight and is only ~15% less efficient than the original design.
>the front fender looks shit raised up like that
Once again, this is a legal requirement.
>the headlight looks shit
I'll flatout give you this one. We are not able to do anything about this.
>the forks look shit in orange
This seems to be one of the least popular opinions I've encountered thus far.
>the exhaust and mugglers are just fucking awful
Legal requirements and cost.
>that rear fender looks shit
Legal requirements.
>the matt colour on the engine looks shit
This is an illusion given by a poor-quality photo. The engine is much more pleasant in-person.
>that plastic box under the seat looks shit
I do not know what you are referring to.

Expect good things, anon.

What you are saying is a myth through and through and you have been indoctrinated to ride gutless soi naked bikes with shit quality. I fell for that too anon and then I bought a GSXS 1000F (technically a naked bike I know) and never looked back. I am on an R1 now. 1000s and even 600 inline 4s are more powerful and better to ride at every speed over 20mph.

If you are a pussy and cant handle leaning forward, actual power, or care about practicality on a vehicle with no roof, storage, or safety features then get another naked or 650.

cbr300r has different gear ratios

you can hit 90, maybe even 100 due to aero and better gearing

True the rebels have really short gearing. Even shorter than the naked hondas

>not as good as a Yamaha Bolt
Yamaha bolts are more comparable to an 883, and more importantly, Yamaha bolts have a ton of problems. They're cheap bikes, cheap speedo, cheap wheel bearings, cheap... everything.

Don't think just because it's a Yamaha it must be gold standard.

Get a leftover 2018 500 in the dead of Winter.

They drop the price by like $1k when it's a year old and in off season. $5k for a brand new Honda 500 is worth it.

The worst offenders are clearly the exhaust setup ( i dont buy any excuses, if underseat exhaust exist then a sideways construction must be possible) and the seat which is clearly meant to be comfortable where a focus on style could have saved a lot! ( just offer aftermarket comfort seats like manufacturers like KTM do).

The rear-shock being changed from a center position to the side is a pretty dumb move as well and i dont get the bulkier frame unless its re-used from one of the cruisers.

I could get a yamaha sr400 for £3100. I'd probably still get shit from this thread about it being underpowered but I'd enjoy riding it at least due to the riding position and how it looks etc. , and I suspect it'll retain its value well. Ofc the offroad aspect goes out the window but maybe i'm better getting used to regular roads first.

Looking for a first dirt bike, figured a dual sport would be the best option since it will have longer service intervals than a motocross or trial bike. I was initially debating between the WR250R, CRF250L, and KLX250.
Having talked to a guy at the local dealership the XT250 or TTR250 also seems to be options because of how cheap they are in the used market.
I don't really care about having a bike with raw power, more having something cheap, reliable, and something that I can learn how to ride a dirt bike properly on.
Any suggestions?
>>
>>19851862
can't really take any of those on a freeway.
>>
>>19851931
Don't care, I have a trailer to get them to a staging area and ride out from there on the local dirt roads or OHV area. Minnesota has plenty of 55mph highways that can get you just about anywhere anyway.
>>
Obviously it's impossible to tell for sure just by looking at a single picture, but at a glance, does this seem like a good deal?
