This little shithole here isnt that bad for liking cars apart from gas being 1.4€ a liter. Then again fuel is 0.60 roach currency a liter in the north.
Insurance is very cheap and cops are kinda cool with car enthusiasts (had a lady cop tell me I have a nice car and that it sounds nice), they also dont really give a fuck unless you speed at double the limit

Here in Bulgaria everything is made in a way to discourage easy buying and selling of cars and keeping owning more than one car.
You have to pay a fee to a notary to transfer ownership of the car when you buy or sell it to someone else.
You then have to waste an entire day getting new registration plates because the process is extremely slow and bureaucratic, and it costs money too of course.
And the insurance is per car not per driver so if you have two cars you need two separate insurance policies.
At least gas is relatively cheaper than it is in other EU countries, but that's offset by us being too poor to afford it anyway.
>>
>>19849877
>British Gas, a household gas supplier
>Unleaded Petrol, what British people use to fuel their petrol engines.

My point was OP presented his post as if he was from Europe - ie:here
Clearly he's not because in Europe gas refers to LPG or LNG etc. Fuel is known as Unleaded/Super/Benzin/Benzina etc
>>

You forgot the worst thing about being European

>30% lower pay BEFORE taxes

By the way if you're high skill you're getting ripped off even harder. Software engineer pay in Europe is a fucking joke.

Americans can actually buy cars that aren't 50hp french pieces of shit.
>>
>>19849993
I have no particular skills and make 2200 euros per month after tax and drive an E46 M3.
>>
>>19849993
>30% lower pay BEFORE taxes
Truly spoken like an autistic software engineer.
Your wage isn't the only metric in purchasing power or standard of living.
>>
>>19849997
forgot to add: 2200 euros per month after tax and rent.
I spend around 200 eur per month in food so i'm left with 2k to spend on petrol and tyres for my bimmer
insurance for my M3 is 30 euros per month, road tax is 183 euros per year
>>
>>19850008
Yeah I was gonna say not sure how you afford your car because even used, at least in the US, it is 90% of your take home pay in a year. You're the exception to the rule though, I've seen what most people drive in Europe and theres more BMWs where I live.

>>19850001
Not sure what you mean since cost of living is much lower in the US. But I'm sure what you're thinking of is how Americans are notoriously fucked over in tuition for college and healthcare.

Not gonna lie, the median European has a much better standard of living than the median American(but the euro definitely has a shittier car)

A 75th percentile American has a job that gives him good healthcare and more than made up for the debt with way higher pay from a good degree. 75th percentile European is barely better off than the median. Just ask your autistic software engineers who could make 2x as much in the US
>>
>>19850035
if you want to afford driving a non-econobox you must live either in scandinavia, eastern europe (baltics) or maybe, just maybe UK (but outside London)
>>
>>19850035
yoi literally have zero idea about running used bimmers in europe
fyi parts are much cheaper over here, e46s can be run with a lot less maintenance overheads than they can in america
>>
>>19850066
To clarify I meant that I couldnt see how someone making like 30k a year can own a car that costs like 18k used here. But then I realized after you clarified that its 2k after your main expenses which makes a lot more sense.

If you're an enthusiast and if maintenance is cheap that's a surprisingly good deal on a good car, but the reality is an American at your percentile of income can get a similar car and still have more leftover. The catch is they also might have 40k of student loans that they legally cant declare bankruptcy to get out of.
>>

>vehicle taxes out the ass
motorcycle insurance is steep - because they crash all the time ?
diesel registration tax (for repairing damage done to the road by 44 tonne trucks) is such that its more economical to run a petrol car even if its 4 tonne
mandatory third party insurance (soon)
insurance rates are bunk since a data base of Euro Ancap ratings got table walk
so five star cars from the present year are more dangerous than cars made in 1970

>gas taxes out the ass
NZD gas price is minimum $2.30/L max $2.50/L
has been high as $3.00/L in the past over half of that is tax
it is cheaper to buy av gas from the airport

>diesel and gas bans
>cars beginning to get banned from cities
some electric car lobby might try that here
but for now things are ehh

>aggressive cops and traffic cameras everywhere
each police district has a $ quota for the end of each month
so they go out of their way to ticket people over the slightest thing so they can have some beer money

>vehicle mod bans
modifications have to be inspected and approved here and at some point your car need a low volume vehicle certification
only things like non centric spacers cut springs are B&
it is not yet bad like auz where they have more aggro impound and crushing practices

>only 500 lhd car can be imported a year
>must be of "historic significance"
>tfw they are all corvettes mustangs and challengers

>yearly inspections
m8 try every six months if your car was made before the year 2000
some cars have to be inspected every 3 months
best just to bribe the testing station

the average european in the upper 25% has no idea how much better off their american counterparts are, in the same way how the average bottom 25% american has no idea how much better off their counterpart in europe is, although these days it's popular to talk about how great europe is so many poor people have some idea. you very rarely hear people talking about how much better america is for the even slightly well off though, somehow it isn't trendy.

for me I'd rather the ambitious and hardworking succeed since I don't care much about the welfare of the poor and lazy. I like the huge salary and quality of life increase I got leaving europe for america. I would never willingly go back to live though I do like traveling in europe.

Literally impossible to own anything over 1,9L here unless you're upper middle-class.
Most 6cyl BMWs were low-key converted and still registered as 1,6 or 1,8.

That's a struggle. I live in Italy and could easily afford a decent car (say 50-60k euro range) but the subsequential tax and ensurance costs would fuck me in the ass. Would literally pay the same amount again in 12-13 years.
So far I'm coping with a nice motorcycle, for some reason top of the line supersport bikes are less than 150€ tax and 350€ ensurance per year as opposed to >2500€ tax for >185kw and >800€ for basic ensurance.

They're not that high, cheaper than paying for healthcare
>gas taxes out the ass
Oil prices and exchange rates have effected the price of fuel more than taxes
>diesel and gas bans
Where do you get these "facts"?
>cars beginning to get banned from cities
Only old shitty ones and only in the most polluted city in Europe
>aggressive cops and traffic cameras everywhere
Aggressive cops are an American thing, cameras are only in towns and cities
>vehicle mod bans and yearly inspections
No and yearly inspections aren't a bad thing.

It's all fun and games if it's only single people handing out flyers saying that my kind is responsible for all that's wrong in the country.

But then those single people turn into mass events and rallies, and later I start being attacked in the street at night or get my business or home burnt down, and eventually I get deported and put into internment camps.

It's all happened before, numerous times, in numerous countries. It's not like I'm claiming something radically new here. History repeats.

Plus you cunts always go on about MUH SLIPPERY SLOPE when it comes to cars or guns, but when it's about hatred you're unwilling to admit the long term consequences of it.

Accurate.

That said, as a German who's lived in the UK I can say that the German autobahn makes up for most of this (because you get to properly use the nice car you bought) and cool used cars are surprisingly affordable in bongistan.

But because the EU generally does the total opposite of what the people want and voters have basically no influence on Brussels policy, I'm worried cars will only be available to people in rural areas in 20 years.

Cars are more than just transportation. It's not because you made your life fucking miserable that other people can't find interest into making good cars that go fast and have safe events to test them agains't one another.

This is the absolute truth.
Americas „freedom“ economy only works if you’re rich or at least upper class. But then it does.
Most of Europes economy simply works for everyone. You get taxed as fuck if you have a fast car and earn a lot but at the same time, the middle class can live a good life with every benefit without worries and the lower cass won‘t be left behind.
I’m in my mid-20s, have worked up until now and want to attend uni next year. In America, I’d have to get a loan and struggle to get by but here in Europe, the state will actually give me money to pursue my dreams.
>>
>>19858886
you could do what canadians do, which is to tax the system all through childhood and then after getting an expensive education leave for america, but then to retire in canada to collect benefits and never pay canadian taxes
>>
>>19858699
This.
It’s like saying buying designer clothes is for idiots, it’s just clothing.
Or buying expensive watches are for douchebags, they just tell the time.
Or playing a sport is for faggots, it’s just cardio.
Or basically everything over the absolute minimal amount to get by is completely useless.
What’s the point of living if you can’t enjoy and have fun with everyday things and turn them into a hobby?
People who say shit like this are always the most boring idiots. 9 to 5 to pay off some shit house and then shitty talent shows on a 30“ tv. Sleep and repeat. Drained of anything fun.
>>
>>19858918
Sounds good to be honest.
I’ve thought about moving to America after uni and basically do just that.
>>

Does the Canadian retirement fund not pay out depending on how much and for how many years you've paid into it?
>>
>>19859004
the full pension you need to pay into, all of the social care and healthcare you get just for showing up. so if you pay into your own pension using the higher US wages and lower taxes, you just drain the system as a child and then again as a senior. it's quite a popular thing to do, enough that in schools like waterloo or university of toronto you're considered a failure if you don't go work in america.
>>
>>19859020
>considered a failure for not breaking your own social system
>>
>>19859030
Why would someone take a huge financial hit just to „help“ an existing system?
If the government sees it‘s no good, they should change something and not force it down peoples throats because they’re too incompetent to improve it. And if it works for most people, which I imagine it does, you’re not impairing your government because your actions have no effect on the grand scheme of things.
>>
>>19859030
welcome to canada. taken advantage of by immigrants, taken advantage of by america, and taken advantage of by canada's own wealthy and elite. the biggest losers in canada are those who work hard their whole lives for substandard wages and pay into the system. to try and afford house prices that have continued spiraling out of control because the government doesn't give a shit about actual canadians.
>>
>>19859038

huge pay cut, lower quality of life, and the among the most inflated housing prices in the world thanks to foreign investment, immigration, and government neglect
it takes twice as long to buy a house at a median white collar salary in vancouver or toronto compared with even the worst us cities like new york or san francisco. most well off people are earning barely 50-60k before taxes in vancouver and house prices start at well over a million. anybody with a brain is getting the fuck out of canada and moving to the states. meanwhile more and more immigrants come to canada to work at substandard wages at every level of employment. immigrants refuse to develop areas and instead make developed areas more expensive and more difficult to live in. canada is fucked.

>people rightfully get upset and start to care about themselves
>NO YOU HAVE TO SUCK UP EVERYTHING BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT SAYS SO

You do realize that nothing will ever change if you act like that? The government will, economically, just tread on you as long as they can if there’s no resistance. Helping local economy by not ordering online etc. is important, but basically getting robbed by the government to pay off what they fucked up in the first place is a no-no.
And I’m Austrian. I thought you were the burgerman.

Why are you so fixated on DAH GUBBERMINT? This is about members of society supporting each other for welfare and pension. Young people now are paying the pensions of old people now, and when today's young people are old, they will have their pensions paid for by young people. You start removing young people from it and everything collapses, doubly so if they then return as old people. Or do you think the government should just create pension payments out of nowhere?
