for 2018 youre going to need to put down some real numbers. A drivers car isnt supposed to get smoked by aunt B's nissan maxima.

Granted regular 4 door family cars have come a HUGE way in the last 30 years, the burden on sporty cars is going to be even more.

Original AE86 was meant to be a performance package of an everyday commuter car. It was advertised and sold as such, with the pricetag to match. That it did astoundingly well for its price on the hill racing Jap teens loved in the 80s and 90s meant that it went down as an icon of sorts of that practice. It helped that it was well within their price range.

GT86 is aggressively marketed as a "sports car" while having anemic performance for such, while carrying a relatively high price tag due to its classification.

If you replace the shit stock tires and put good rubber on it, not even semi slicks or something retarded, just good 100 bucks tires, and you know how to launch a manual, you'll very easily and consistently get around 6.5s 0-60. My personal record with no mods except tires was a 5.98s. I've seen """official""" stock 0-60 times posted as high as 8.3s, which is complete bullshit. Neither car exists in a vaccum
AE86 is a sports package on an economy car, NOT a sports car
Toyota's sports car was the Celica
GT86 is a sports car that doesn't measure up to its contemporaries or used sports cars well within the price range, it gets yeeted by C5's and F-bodies with minimal mods

>>
>>19978937
The GT86 was designed as a cheap hypercar, but it's crap because it's not as fast as other hypercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, or the McLaren P1.
>>
>>19977431
The AE86 would be 35k in todays money, all for a solid rear axle 112hp floppy chassis corolla. The GT86 has 205hp, IRS, stiff chassis, and won't crumple like a tin can in an accident, and can be had new for under 30k. The 4AGE sounds better than the FA20 but that's all it has.

Because most auto "enthusiasts" are NPCs

A better example would be

FRS/BRZ
>200hp lol slower than a minivan lol needs a turbo lol

ND Miata
>Omfg glorious nippon steel folded over 1000 times 130hp is all it needs its perfect

Both cars are meant for corners and handling; not raw power
>>
>>19979089
Both are the antithesis of benchracing. The ND has soft suspension because bouncing around on pot holed roads sucks and body roll is fun. The 86 has economy tires because it teaches you car control and drifting is fun.
>>
>>19976272
I'm considering buying a new 2019 WRX cash down as I hate sharing my mom;s car as she is so fucking disgusting.

>>
>>19978937
>AE86 is a sports package on an economy car, NOT a sports car
Truthfully the economy car was the AE82, the 86 wasn't particularly cheap and in my country never even shared a nameplate.
>>
>>19979100
Stop making sense, NPCs need short sound bites not logic or facts!
>>
>>19976130
Cars are supposed to get better over the years, if we're benchracing most of the other sporty cars in a similar price range are faster.

It is odd though, that when you ask for old cars that do better they only post ones that were more expensive than a gt86 when they were new or still are.

The AE86 wasnt a sports car. The 86 is marketed to be a sports car while being slower than comparable price range cars and even commuter cars. Hell the newest miata has a faster configuration, or hell I could even get a $8k RX8 and get something faster, with handling just as good if not better.

My complaint about the FR-S/BRZ was never that it was too slow. Though their excuses for not giving it more power is stupid, and I'm glad Mazda corrected their same mistake. The MX-5 is perfect now, and the FR-S is not.

It's that it wasn't tested and refined enough.
It reminds me of those shitty kickstarter games where the feature list sounds great, and they DO deliver those features, but they forgot to actually make the game fun nor engaging. All they did is tick the boxes.

I hear it got a shitload better since the refresh, but it shouldn't have been that poor to begin with. And it's still not good enough.

The 2019 BRZ with the manual has a 0-60 of 6.2 seconds bone stock if you get the Performance Package. That is plenty fast for a $27k car that only weighs 2700 pounds. I don't know why you poorfags keep complaining. inb4:

>M-muh Mustang!

Fat, ugly, plastic, piece of shit that handles like ass and is only fast in a straight line on very good pavement when it doesn't spin out and kill a bunch of Boomers drinking coffee.

>It reminds me of those shitty kickstarter games where the feature list sounds great, and they DO deliver those features, but they forgot to actually make the game fun nor engaging

wtf are you going on about? Nearly every single person who has ever reviewed the BRZ/FRS loves them and said they are one of the best handling cars ever made and a ton of fun. The only thing they need is a better set of tires, Oil/Air separator, intake, E85 tune.

And Subaru is saying the 2019 version does 0-60 in 6.2. If you need to go faster just drive better and brake less.
>>
>>19984064
>Subaru is saying the 2019 version does 0-60 in 6.2
I bet they didn't change anything relevant and just did a serious test 9n serious tires this time, because 6 seconds is what my 2013 GT86 does, bone stock except for good tires.

comparing the brz to 20 year old front wheel drive cars is dumb, seems like a lot of jealous bench racers ie people who don't actually own a car. How many times each day do you actually launch from 0 to 60 in everyday driving, compare that to handling which is used a lot more
>>
>>19984254
>0 - 60
Every stop light
>>
>>19984211
The older ones definitely have pretty bad handling from the factory, but the newer ones are pretty good. Especially with the performance packages. BRZs just have a hard time coping being slower than pretty much anything.

>Savage Geese trashed the pre-refresh one
He bought one and tried to supercharge it and make a racecar out of it, and got salty that it just didn't work out, because the car just wasn't designed to be a racecar, at least not with only a few simple mods. He even admitted in a later video that in hindsight it's just a good car.
>>
>>19984078
They've definitely changed the gear ratio so that you can get to 60 in second gear. Not shifting to 3rd saves a lot of time with 0 performance change.
>>
>>19985405
>They've definitely changed the gear ratio so that you can get to 60 in second gear
Mine shows 61 when bouncing off the limiter in 2nd gear. A lot of the 0-60 times out there are copy&pasted 0-100kph times, which indeed requires 3rd gear, because it's 62mph. Ultimately, it's an irrelevant number and not worth changing the gearing over, especially of just raising the red line a few dozen RPMs. That said, I wouldn't put it past them.
