First rains on the California north coast last week brought out the chanterelles in force! Found three (maybe four?) species of chanterelles in a day!

I recommend finding a book that's specific to your region. All else being equal, All That the Rain Promises and More by David Aurora is an unbeatable first field guide for North America. It's got all the common edibles, great pictures, entertaining anecdotes, and is a pretty soft introduction to dichotomous keys if you're not already familiar.
If you're in northern California or the PNW, Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast by Noah Siegle and Christian Schwarz is an excellent and very thorough book. Definitely the best I've found for the region.

I was told to look for Hemlock trees and found some there. No way anyone is going to come across them but hiking where they were to check on them will suck. I'm trying to learn where they grow besides Hemlock groves. We have tons of Winter Chanterelles but not Golden

I don't think that's a king, they usually have downturned caps and wider stems. But still a good find, there aren't really any bad boletes.

The only bolete I ever see is Slippery Jacks. What's weird though, is that I seem to find them both spring and autumn, so they're probably not the same thing. I'm more a fan of Grey Morels anyway though, so that's what I'm looking for.

I went back and grabbed a couple but found more in about a 50 foot radius. I have never had them before and the pic makes them look wet and dark but I read they taste like apricots. HOLY CRAP they really taste like apricots it floored me. I don't think I've ever seen a post where someone describes the taste of Chanterelles. We also have Winter chanterelles that sort of have a slight vanilla flavor but not as flavorful as the Golden ones.

Anybody know a good way to preserve pawpaws without ruining their flavor? I'll have 30 to 50 pounds of them in the next week but they only last about 10 days in the fridge or 2 days on the counter. I've tried cooking and canning them but they turn shit brown and lose all their flavor.

I don't think there is without risking contamination anon

you could go with the usual route and try to isolate it: spores to grain -> colonized grain to spawn -> spawn to wild wood chip piles (or omit this last step and spawn the grain directly into the wood), but then again I don't really know how delicate this species is, I know cubensis would probably be fine (not spawning to wood, but dung or other shit) because they're resilient as fuck, but I haven't done my research on cyanescens tb.h

if you don't want to complicate things you can always go with nature's intended way, simply collect a fuckload of them once they sporulate and try to spread their spores around other wood piles, funny enough this usually works for everything, althought it takes a little more time to show results (maybe you'll have to wait next year to see them grow)

I'd recommend isolating them and learning about shroom cultivation tho, takes some initial work but it's not that hard, and it's real fun

I think its 'Paxillus involutus' or closely related to it.

That pic looks a young 'Gloeophyllum sepiarium'.
For the other one my bet would probably be the Paxillus filamentosus rather than the Involotus, as you say the color is a little too dark.
