Hey /out/ what is your favorite choice in hats? What brands are worthy? Whats the overall best type for going /out/?
>>
>>1108744
my grandfather's rifle slouch hat is the go to for me
>>
>>1108744
I like Stetsons, I wish I could afford a 100x beaver.
>>
>>1108745
that's based. I want something unique like that, but end up just wearing a ball cap.

>>
>>1108747
I suppose after buying a 100x you'd never have to buy a hat again. also you never be able to afford another one. Stetson's are also quite expensive.
>>
>>1108744
If you wear anything other than a baseball style cap or beanie you are 100% virgin

I wear an akubra territory, wish I got it in fawn not olive as I do a montana crease and it looks like an army hat.

I would like to get a cowboy hat. Preferably wool and nothing too showy in a dark brown/ grey. I like my boonie but it's kind of too gross to wear in public and it does fuck all in winter weather. Suggestions, /out/ists?
>>
>>1108805
Akubra.
>>
>>1108744

Just for reference, I regularly drop a fair amount of cash on good gear. That said, I'm partial to the Columbia Omni-Shade Bora Bora booney - older model. It's light weight, good air flow, has a sweat-band, good shade and packs incredibly well (you can pretty much wad it up and stuff it away) and dries really quick. It's well worth the $20 it costs.
>>
A slouch hat when I'm hunting and a Stormy Kromer otherwise

I wear my sailor's cap when I'm out fishing or boating and I don't really care if it looks autistic because I'm a licensed merchant mariner and I don't concern myself with the opinions of landsmen
>>
>>1108803
>what is a hood
>>
Standard nico boonie from autumn to spring
Larger cotton boonie or straw australian hat during summer
>>
>>1108744
A regular cap during the year and a fur hat in winter. Brand really doesn't matter.
>>
>>1108750
You must be over the age of 12 to post on the internet.

my favorite hat is a wool watch cap, army green, like Radar from M.A.S.H great for /out/ but too hot for summer. the Ushanka top left was a great thrift shop find, sadly the makers logo is just 2 triangles so i haven't been able to find who made it, made in Sweden though, i have a wide brim stetson not pictured that is great for shore fishing

I kinda wanted a hat with a stiff, bound edge on it, but in hindsight, I'm glad I got a soft edge hat, as it tucks nicely behind a rucksack when hiking.

Well size is perhaps the wrong word. Its the snug fit. The old rock stars hug the head which is really useful for moving about confined spaces (I suppose it's from the caving background). The newer petzl vertex sit higher on the head which offers more protection but bumps into stuff. It's just the kinda shite you talk about after 3 weeks offshore with the same guys in teashack

Not really my area, I'm a tree climber so my lid has ear muffs and a visor on it, so even if it was a low profile helmet there is enough shit on it to constantly get caught. And no I will not buy one of those power ranger helmets with the built in muffs.

Nice mate! Worked with an ex royal Marine psychical trainer and he said being a tree surgeon was "fookin nails" also this big Maori fella that told me if I wanted to get into it Id néed to be his "twig bitch" for 3 years. Haha.
Yeah the old rock stars never had the mounting points for the peltors and face shield which probs explains while they phased them out. Heard a few tree workers say the KASH helmets were gud

Yea; i've had mine for years. Petzl's replaced it with a newer model iirc.

I like it climbing, since I have more upwards peripheral vision wearing that than my full-brim hardhat I tend to bonk my head less. Stays cooler too since it's ventilated a little better.

Ground work I trade out for my regular hardhat. Full-brim offers good sun protection, and I don't have straps all over my face.
>those awkward tan lines the next day
Winter jobs I put a cold-weather liner in.

Some safety supervisors still want a "real" hardhat even though this one's still Z80whatever-certified.

>>1111704
"Closer fit", yep, not as wide.
Like I said, I like it for the ability to see upwards, rather than fitting into tighter spaces.
