>watch the backcast
>add a pause before you forward cast
>no tight loops when swinging heads
>use a stripping basket
>roll cast to get the head near the surface
>you want the head to straighten out in back
>use the waters drag to load your backcast

its a different method than regular fly casting. try keeping your arm a little off to the side rather than straight up and down. move with exaggerated movements. dont use a lot of force in the haul, youre not looking for line speed and tight loops. the pause before the forward cast is key to letting the backcast unfold, then its a small haul to start the forward and the release to shoot. think of it like casting a spinning reel. release with the rod high until you get the feel for it

Was kinda rushing on these flies but functionally they performed well (cept that small minnow but I knew it was fucked). The bottom (Jerk Minnow) looked great in the water and almost landed me a 4-5lb+ bass......but he missed and just fucked up the fibers. I like polar fibre/craft fur but man you have to pretty much let it dry out to fix the fibers once a fish smacks it hard. Got 2 bass and a crappie on the middle minnow

Dick's sporting goods typically has the best online sale even if their base price is usually a bit too high, but their sale price is the best. You just have to check for sale and compare the price without other retail.

Walmart's stuff is cheap even without sale if they have what you are looking for. Dick's also have clearance rack in store

Other places almost never have good sale online. They typically have the same clearance stuff for months, usually only store brand stuff. BPS's "sale" is the most hilarious because they'll just rename their "sale" event every week and just put the same item with the same price.

Cabelas sure have good sale and pricing online but their $99 limit for free shipping is ridiculous. They rarely have free shipping event while DSG has free shipping for like almost half of the year while their typically shipping limit is like $25 which is more reasonable. Paying for shipping for cabelas stuff basically offset the reduced price when you only try to make a small order.

>>

In Denmark: pike, perch, walleye are the most talked about and fished for.
Some coarse anglers also try to catch as many roach as possible and show off with total wright because whothefuckknows.
Pike are probably the most treasured freshwater fish here due to size and how widespread it is.
Most people fish saltwater though. You'd be hard pressed to find a location in Denmark more than 1hr from the sea and we have some of the best sea trout fishing in the world (or so they say).
>>
>>1138357
*ponds and lakes, that is. In rivers it is almost exclusively trout.
>>
>>1138345
First I think its by that guy shitposting about carp. Whats in the pic: some pond with anglers fishing for specific species. Bass fishermen cant get bass because the water is too muddied by carp, trout die because generally trout dont even live in still ponds that carp like.

It appears that green pepe dumped a bunch of young carp in the pond, or its a picture of chum, cant tell 100%

Most anglers complain about carp because they think they make waters more murkier and other invasive things like eat all the food (im not 100% myself)
>>
>>1138357
how come they have no bass, crappie, etc up there? Surely someone has tried stocking them in those waters in the past; by now they would have populated?

>>
>>1138450
I don't like carp unless they're realllyyy needed to clean a pond and are sterile. They eat all the cover that baby fish and minnows use.....and then the larger predator fish clean house and voila lake/pond fucked.

>>
>>1138602
Yea, and baby crayfish....baby minnows. Kinda just a fuckugly pond vacuum.
>>
>>1138610
Will the difference be significant from 7' to 7' 6"? Cause the 7' is a 3 piece which would be nice and the 7' 6" is a two piece. I'd rather it be able to break down smaller unless the 7' 6" is just a whole lot better.
>>
>>1138615
it wont be terribly noticable. i notice that im missing 3 feet off of my 6'1'' 2 weight but i dont think i would feel an appreciable difference between 7' and 7'6''. absolutely go for the one that is more convenient for you.
>>
>>1138615
>>1138623
oh but make sure the spine is as close to perfect as possible, it matters more on a fly rod than on conventional gear imo. the loading of the rod is much more vital to a fly cast because with out it the line wont get any speed, where as a 3/8 jig could be kinda casted with a 6 foot broom stick, a fly line wouldn't cast without action to the rod.
>>
>>1138486
Tungsten is more sensitive and compact when compared to lead

I've had cats jump before. The thing I would like to jump more than they do is pike. A nice 30" plus pike puts up one hell of a fight for all of 15 seconds before it gives up and gets dragged to the boat. Give me a poke that fights all the way in and jumps and I will never fish for anything else ever again. Also bluegill, pound for pound they are the best fighting fresh water fish there is, if I could add an extra 1-2 pounds and make them jump I would fucking love them.
>>

>>
>>1138819

I catch my fair share of tiny little bluegills, but I also catch some twice the size of my hand. If you're in an area where a lot of people fish you will obviously catch fewer big ones because they are a good eating fish so the big ones go in the skillet. I've never had one not give me a good fight though, what gear are you using?

Same reason X species is not found in Y country/continent I guess.
We have lots of species, I only mentioned the most popular and abundant ones.
As for stocking/introducing invasive species we are lucky that it is somehow limited and that penalties for doing so are steep. Fuck carp in that regard btw. Carp anglers like to release carp into lakes so they can be caught and carp can fuck up a lake as you very well know. I'm just glad it is close to impossible for carp to breed here (temperature and other fish eating larvae/eggs).

>>1138189
Use a few yourself, try to flip the remaining 498 spoons.
Been thinking about doing similar myself but profits seem too low to be worth the hassle. Also you gotta somehow conceal the fact that they are (like 98% of everything) from China. People hear 'chink lure' and they run away screaming.

>>1138933
Trout are strange. Sometimes they give you hell and give you the fight of your life. Other times they seem to not give a fuck about being hooked and just go in nice and quiet.

here's why I dont like them, ill be blunt.
If there's going to exist a big fish that has virtually has no predator once it gets big in a body of water, it better be consistently catchable with lures and aggressive like many other fish.

Otherwise, that big fish is just going to be taking up resources in the body of water and limiting how many other game fish there could be. Of course im not worried about one carp, what I mean is the population of carp.

Native sucker populations are preferred, as they will contribute more to their ecosystem than carp.

No, soaking bait and basically sleeping until you get a bite isn't what I call fun. Look at all the youtube videos of british folk fishing for carp. Playing video games seems more active that carp fishing there. But whether it's fun or not is opinion so Ill leave it at that.
>>
>>1137675
How the fuck are you supposed to fish weightless plastics? Do you need light gear?

I’ll put a Zoom Fluke and a 3/0 hook on my medium Ugly Stik and the thing’ll cast like 10 feet.
>>
>>1139129
What line are you using? I can chuck those zoom flukes far on just 6lb mono. Doesnt matter what rod you're really using if you cant get it past 10 feet. It's mostly about line at.
>>
>>1139129
Depend on which kind of ugly stix are you using. What is your ugly stix lure rating. Ugly stix can be an ass to cast because you can’t snap cast them since they are so soft. If you do full cast, it should go well though. What is your line lb. what kind of reel? If it is a spinning reel did you spool it full enough?

Zoom fluke/super fluke are fairly dense and you should be able to cast it like 20ft weightless

Alright, so i attempt to take apart my spinning reel to clean, degrease, and re-grease once again.

I have a few question
How much grease is right, i simple pit enough to fill in the teeth space of the gear and uses a brush to put on thin coat on other part of the gear. I oiled the outer bearing as well
My reel stops being “grainy” but it is a bit “sticky” still. Does it take some time for the reel greese to loosen up to make the reel smoother? Or it should be super smooth right away? Last time I feel like I put too much grease and I got gunks of grease in crevices as I open up the reel. Did I put too little grease this time? This is a spinning reel btw

Hey you guys, I was wondering whats the best fluorocarbon fishing line in your opinion?

I recently got into fishing for stocked trout and this cheap and 4lb fluro is shit. It gets nasty looking fast, it turns white and frays.

I'm trying to look for a high quality line and money isn't an issue Just as long as it hold up and doesn't look like shit withing 3 minutes.
>>
>>1139632
I have had good results with PLine Flurocarbon. Casts well and VERY abrasion resistant. I use Uni knots with lots of saliva. Palomar in my opinon puts too much tension and heat on fluro and ends up damaging it. I will often use it as a leader on my 10lb braid tied with an alberto knot.
>>
>>1139518
Did you grease everywhere that two parts move against each other? If not, do that and run it for a week, everything should break in and push where it needs to be.

Hey fishbros, just put up a question about kayaks in the gear thread, figured you might have some thoughts:
>>1139729
>>
>>1139655
>Palomar in my opinon puts too much tension and heat on fluro and ends up damaging it
I've found that if you keep the overhand knot loosish and get the knot really wet before you start to close the loop it's fine. And even though it sounds counter intuitive I think going faster when you close the loop is better than creeping it along. The other day I bent out the hook on a jig with 17lb flouro kek.

Obviously use whatever works best for you just my 2¢.

>>1139731
So you basically need to decide wether you want a sit in, or sit on top. I have both and I prefer the sit on top, especially if I'm fishing. The sit in is nice when it's cold and it helps keep the sun off your legs, but that's about it. You'll have a lot more room on a sit on top.

Then longer length kayaks will be easier to keep straight, but harder to turn and vice versa for smaller ones. The wider it is the more stable it will be, but a narrower kayak will be faster.

And if you plan on fishing from it a rod holder is almost a necessity.

Buying used is fine. Unless you just really really want a brand new one. A few scratches and faded colors won't effect how your kayaks performs. Just look for obvious holes and cracks and if you can put in the water before you buy it.

Unironically prebaiting corn will work for Musky.

The corn doesnt really get the musky, so much as it attracts baitfish, suckers, carp, catfish, crayfish, and otheir things a musky might like to eat.

Make sure you boil it first. You want to be able to crush it with two fingers. As that amount of softness will allow fish to break it up easier. Although dry feed corn wont kill fish if you are feeling lazy. Its just less appealing to smaller fish.

There's this shoreline reserve where no shore fishing is allowed but the water is fair game and I'll paddle on over and catch some monsters in the little inlets the motor boats can't get into.

Fucking bass boats man, they’re literally the lifted faggot trucks of the boat world,

>No freeboard, takes water over the bow in the slightest chop and plows into any waves larger than a foot
>Stupidly large motor that costs an arm and leg to maintain and is only fully usable in glasslike conditions
>Owners have no respect for safe operating speeds and blast through small creeks and rivers
>Meme Deck sacrifices passenger and gear capacity so you can stand and cast despite being on a boat
>Costs more than a similar Center console despite having worse capabilities

Bass and pontoon boats have no use outside of inland lakes, Outboard Skiffs
are the true masterace of intertidal zones.

>>1140786
The only advantage I see to kayaks is that you can launch outside of a ramp, with my 15ft skiff I can always switch to oars or the kicker if it gets shallow but I've still got the capability to cross the Cheasepake bay on a whim and can laugh at two foot swells down to around 20 degrees, and cost wise I've probably only got 1,200 invested in the boat which is admittedly more than a kayak, but if you were to factor the cost out relative to the person capacity it's a slightly cheaper option if you bring friends.

It's been too long since my last one. I usually go for them once a year. My problem is I get a lot of follows and no hook ups. Sometimes I will raise 10-15 fish in a day but fail to trigger a bite, or pull the bait away during the strike. I've been working on figure 8s and trying to switch directions during the retrieve to get more strikes.
> Last fish I caught, was after spending 4hrs casting.
>We switched to trolling and 30 seconds
into it this fish smashes my pearson plug trolled only 20ft back.
I think I just have to spend more time going after them. I also prefer river fishing to lakes. Fish location is alot more predictable but success is more related tp water levels.
>>
>>1140872
Wouldn't it make more sense to troll first and then resort to casting? Trolling seems to have more reliable hook ups in my experience and you can cover a lot more water. The advantage of casting is you can do it more precisely and in shallower water/weeds, but the fish see you and spook easy.

Fished lots of thick cover on a little river so trolling didnt make sense in the begining. When I havent fished for them in awhile and don't have a pattern I tend to start with flashylures and active presentations, shallow and big cover first for active fish who are setup in ambush spots in current breaks and ready to feed. Then if no follows, I fish with increasingly more subtle presentations and less obvious cover, change cadence or retrieve speed. Then end with deeper areas. The bottom section of that stretch of river deepened so it became trollable.
This fish was caught on a homewrecker (giant walk the dog lure) the previous year holding close to a fallen tree. I had already gotten blowups and follows early so I was able to just focus on good potential structure that day.

>Didnt have time to pre chum the spot yesterday
>Windstorms previous weeks
>Lake up about 1ft or so
>Water Temps in low 50's, maybe even 49.
>No carp surfacing
>Not even a bump the entire four hours I was there.

Hopefully the chum draws them in for tomorrow.

Now that it's getting colder (low-mid 20s air, getting close to freezing in the water there is some ice in the mornings on the slower parts of the river) I've read that the best thing to do is drag jigs slowly along the bottom of deeper parts. I have a 7 foot MH uglystik rod that I've been using all summer and an ultralight rod that I use for panfish in the spring. I've been told that you need really good rod sensitivity for jigging which I just don't have with my MH rod, but I'm scared to hook into a large pike with my ultralight and damage it. Is sensitivity really that important, or can I get by okay on a sloppier rod?

Also the old man who runs the baitshop told me that I should try slow dragging a white buzzbait over cover when we get these cold overcast days, but that seems to go against everything I've read, any insight on that?

Fished for Carp again this morning.

Water Temps at 50 degrees and continuing to drop.

ZERO fish.

Had what was probably a perch peck at the corn for a bit, but that was about it.

Bait making equipment gets here on Tuesday. Then I can finally make my own boilies.
>>

Looks aight. The googly eyes for noise are nice but that plus craft fur and it's gonna be a topwater minnow. I'm workin on some variants of the Jerk Minnow myself (trying to make them go deeper with tungesten eyes/etc). UV epoxy is a bitch.5 to apply evenly.

Whoops, this was the Jerk Minnow link I was trying to post. More or less the same thing but Conor's Jerk Minnow stays in the top 1.5ft of water or so.

>Spinning Reel started spinning both ways.

What the heck causes this?

I can reel forwards and backwards....

It caused a nasty rats nest.
>>
>>1141902
there should be a little switch usually on the bottom side of the reel that if you flip it activates/deactivates your antireverse
>>
>>1141871
>>1141888
actually even with the googly eyes they still sink at something like 4-6 ips, which if i tack on to a sinking line will be plenty to get them down to the fish.
>>
>>1141909
Lead wire wraparound under the craft fur?
>>
>>1141911
actually no, the hook is just heavy enough.
>>
>>1141906

>>
>>1141936

To let big fish run without drag. Let them out some then fight them back in.
>>
>>1141867
You shouldn't need boilies.

How to catch carp:
1. find a place carp live because of past experience or survey information or local knowledge
2. find a good spot to chum, remember that carp are schooling fish that tend to move around a lot, so find pinch points where fish will travel through, like the end of a pier in a lake
3. go out 2-3 days before your main fishing day, throw two cans of sweet corn into your chum spot
4. arrive at the fishing spot at daybreak and begin chumming with a simple packbait:
- 3 parts instant oatmeal
- 1 parts instant grits
- sweet corn cured in this stuff, it's really easy and cheap for what it is: Pro-Cure Wizard Kokanee Killer Korn Dye
5. throw out a couple handfuls every two hours
6. stay there all day
7. use a hair rig. I get pre-tied ones from bigcarptackle.com, that's a great website.

I fish with Boiled Field Corn all the time, and occasionally use packbaits.

The bait rollers were like 25 bucks. And I wanted to experiment with boilies, and not spend an arm and a leg buying them by the Kilo.

I love Big Carp Tackle. Great Team. Shipments a bit expensive but everything is always packed nicely.

You carp fish a lot? Or just occasionally?
>>
>>1141947
I mean, a light drag setting will allow the line to go out smoothly, when the reel is backwinding with the anti reverse off, I've yet to see a reel that doesnt shit the bed, and send line everywhere.

How does PowerBait (Berkely) get away with it?

>Little tiny jars of dough mixed with fishmeal, and coloring.
>Sell them for 4-5 dollars
>Have no major competition
>Product is in every fishing store across the country

How the fuck did Berkely do it?
>>
>>1141852
The only issue I see with the ugly stik is you might have done trouble getting good hooksets if it has a heavy weed guard and heavy hooks. Other than that it should be fine you'll just really have to pay attention.

And the Chattermeme thing is basically the same concept as slow rolling a spinnerbait. You're trying to get a reaction strike vs getting the bass to look at a jig.

Had a great day on the river for Barbel.

Conditions looked a bit shit, river had dropped and was clear. But, I had 4 fish out in a short session.

Largest was just over 8lb, caught on chorizo. Other 3 were caught on boilies.
>>
>>1142751
Kept one for myself and 3 for friends and family. Rest were let go. The fish are ok in the gulf. Oil has poor bioavailability in seawater. You kinda stop worrying if you grew up here. Especially if youre a chemical engineer like me.
>>
>>1142761
Eh, I mean I usually run basic water tests on the bodies I fish (eat) from. Tho I'm in NC and Dupont/Chemours is trying to kill us with chem dumps in the rivers/waterways so it's a bit different. Do reds cook well?

>>1142707

No, they will not go for lures.

They feed off the bottom. Most popular baits are pellets, luncheon meat, boilies, maggots, worms.

My favourite fresh water fish to catch in the UK and pound for pound, puts up the hardest fight.

chummed one specific spot in this tiny pond yesterday with a few handfuls of corn. dropped in a pretty big hook with two kernels on it today and pulled out two carps.

here's the bigger of the two. pond owner said to kill any carp i caught so i bashed their heads on a rock and tossed the bodies in the bushes.

It’s getting about that time... Fry that turkey, get drunk with your uncle who molested you as a child, and wait for those Bass Pro gift cards! If anybody wants to celebrate the holidays with fellow fish-minded anons, get in on the 2nd Annual F&T Secret Santa!
>Send email to GetSomeMemes at Gmail dot com
>Include your shipping info and what type of fishing you typically do
>Closer to Xmas, I will draw names to match Santas up with their Anon
>Everybody will get an email with the shipping info for the person they will shop for along with the type of fishing that person enjoys
>Go on your favorite website, spend around $25, send your anon a few pieces of tackle you think they will like, and wait for your gift!
It worked out well last Xmas and Easter. A few people have added homemade lures or gifted stuff they already had and that’s fine as long as it’s fair for everybody, but ordering directly from one of the big online retailers seems to be the easiest. Don’t use a burner email because I need to keep in touch with people to send them the person they shop for, exchange shipping info, etc. For the paranoid anons, the only people who will see your info are me (I have yet to rape anybody from 4chan yet) and the person that shops for you, so either relax and have fun or quit bitching and don’t join in.
>>
>>1142923
I’m going to keep this in the OP for the next few weeks. I’m thinking we will draw names maybe 2 weeks before Christmas so people have a few days to shop and time for UPS to work their magic.

Please use an email account you actually check. A day or two before we draw names I’m going to email everybody to make sure nobody backs out at the last minute. Once again if anybody flakes and doesn’t buy their gifts but still receives stuff, I will have to post your info all over /b/ and order pizzas to your home for the next 6 months. When Papa John’s refuses to deliver any more unpaid pizzas, I will sign you up for every mailing list possible. So please, don’t be an faggot.

Last year most people sent me the tracking info after they placed their orders so I was able to relay it to the anons they bought for and people knew when their stuff was coming. If anybody from outside the US wants to join in, include some online retailers that will deliver to your area so it will be easy for people to shop for you. YuroSaintsFan was part of it last year and only challenge we faced was that a limited number of retailers will let you order with a billing address from another country, but it still worked out in the end.

I think I covered it all.

Also use a hair rig.

You'd be amazed how many times a carp can suck and blow a hookbait without a hair.

Even with a hair, half the time you dont even know that they took the bait.

Had a family friend over this weekend and springtime next year he's gonna take me and the lady friend out on his boat off shore. Gonna hit up some rigs and catch all them fishes. Hoping I can buy the stuff to build an offshore/jigging rod on cyber Monday for cheap.
