What I love about all these 'hipster' style photos is there are all these people being 'wild' in the 'great outdoors' but they all look like they've just stepped out Urban Outfitters. None of these idiots would survive a day in the Alps or the Black Forest without someone holding their hand or a sign-marked trail to follow.
>>

Because they portray the life you wish you were living.

Deep down we all want to be hipsters. Like the guy with super rich parents that give him enough money to travel about, take pics in the wilderness with all the latest tech and fuck the qt blonde.
>>
>>3150445
DIng ding we got ourselves a winner!
>>
>>3150495
>Because they portray the life you wish you were living
They don't portray a life that anyone lives. The models in the images appear to be living it but we know they are merely models. What they actually show is an idealised notion of a life can't be achieved but if only you'd buy this product/subscribe to that service you could get one step closer.

>hipster
what makes this hipster?
>>
>>3150524
I heard Wes Anderson's films being described as "hipster" simply because he uses pastel tones.
I dont think thats very fair because "hipster" has a lot of connotations other than simply being a bit experimental with your colour pallette.

This, it's not the photography being good or bad it's the subject matter. I live in Montana and this fake outdoorsy shit bugs me. Nobody from here wears pretty leather hiking boots made in Tanzania. They aren't functional. There is a narrow band of fashionable and even folksy attire that will keep you alive, and historically has done so for those in the past who were the original market, but I'm sure the folks who wore it back in the day would've killed for some damn gore-tex.
I wish I had taken pictures last time I flew out of the Bozeman airport. Looked like a big powwow of fjallraven, blundstone, Patagonia, Eddie Bauer and just a hint of thrift shop, in line to complain that they couldn't get a Subaru as a rental car.
>>

That's a lot of words for saying "someone who likes what I don't like"

>>3150522
>only achieved if you buy this product
I agree that they are trying to sell a lifestyle/feeling of liberation from the neoliberal hellhole most people find themselves in, but from what I've seen, few of these IG people actively push products.
In some ways a lot of them feel quite authentic in an inauthentic way. Sort of like showing a true love of that lifestyle, by emulating the fake commercial picture of it.

Why is it so samey? It's like they are all made by the same photographer. Same subjects, same editing...
>>
>>3150600
The same reason all of the photography in lifestyle magazines like Martha Stewart's looks the same.
>>
>>3150596
Yeah i'd go with that. Also Zissou and Fantastic Mr Fox.

The rest of his films are strong on visuals but weak/tedious/effete on story.
>>
>>3150522
>The models in the images appear to be living it but we know they are merely models.

What if I told you there are juat tons of outdoorsy babes in the PNW? I know plenty of girls who are model-mode gorgeous who go on 2+ day back country hikes regularly, where they carry their own 10kg bag, shit in the woods, and thoroughly enjoy being outside.

Will they maybe snap a yoga pose on some rock and post it to IG at some point? Yeah probably. Dunno why thsats any worse than any of you faggots taking pictures of mountains and posting them to IG / Flickr / etc. On both cases the person is out in nature cause they enjoy it.

You mean the province that has about the same population as LA and a lower population density than North Dakota? No one in BC knows "plenty of people" much less plenty of a subgroup of the right hand edge of the bell curve that would be "model gorgeous" unless "plenty" is mapleback for 1.

Didn't need to look up anything. If you can't remember 1 lb=2.2kg and 1"=2.5cm you suck at life.

And you're damn skippy I'd take more than 22lbs for a 2-3 day hike. 13lbs of that is taken up by water alone, and that's if you're bringing water for absolutely nothing else but drinking and you're doing essentially nothing that's any real level of exertion.
>>calls other people 'models who dont actually live that lifestyle'
Wasn't me guy.

>>3150914
Chinese people don't go hiking.
>>
>>3150929
Chinese people do, in fact, go hiking, but they do a bunch of weird shit like go in a group of 30 and take walkie talkies and chatter incessantly the whole time they do it, then get altitude sickness and immediately call wilderness rescue and create a massive inconvenience for every other person out there.

I have had this happen at least 3 times in the past 5 years. Asians in the outdoors are genuinely experience ruining.
>>
In ten years people are going to look back at these photos and wonder why everyone thought a grey sky looked good.

The royal tenenbaums is my personal favorite Wes Anderson movie. so many parallels to my own father's family and upbringing. The strong mother holding everything together, the aloof father finally trying to make right, the effects of such an upbringing on the children and how they each reacted differently. I feel like I've never seen a movie that depicted such a true to life story.

I work in advertising, and that's exactly how it works. We create desire for things by attaching them to emotions and ideas that resonate with people.

Times change. What was popular in the world early 2000's isn't popular in 2017. i think it's resonating because at a glance the effect clearly sets a shot apart from the ever increasing deluge of smartphone photos flooding the net.it's a flag that says "I'm not just another snapshot of someone's dog". Now to us it might already feel cliche but to the uninitiated it looks unique.
