no, not through pretentious bullshit. just take a good look on some of his photos and you will understand his approach. obviously, as it is the way of the art market, the price is ridiculous and there are thousands of photos that also deserve to be "the most valuable photo ever taken". nevertheless i think it is an amazing photo

>>3211266
>>3211483
gursky himself showed how the scenery looks unedited. he never hid the fact he edits his work. he is no documentaric photographer. gursky's work is always about the many tiny elements in a huge, bold surrounding. usually more obvious, in this one he focused on the seamingly endless, chaotic forms of waves on the water surface, heavily contrasted by the extremely static surroundings. also keep in mind that the photo as print is very large, so it's not like you actively have to focus on the details of the water. that all doesn't mean you have to like it but i hope you now understand better why his work is valued.

>its a money laundering scheme by hook nosed greedy jews

there it is. it just feels right

injustice and malpractices need to be pointed and denounced with absolute clarity. zizek said it, you cant embrace political correctness as a rule with the guise of protecting minorities, because that same stuff will shield the powerful and corrupted too, making them untouchable and its literally been that way. even the middle age jesters had ways to shit over the king. that we dont have that freedom nowadays tells you a lot. and all that has direct relationship with art and what youre allowed to say in this 'free' society.

In fact, the whole Dusseldorf school is almost defined by the question of process, and a subtle deconstruction of objective reality. That Gursky's constructions look so real and so believable speaks volumes about the way we relate to the modern world. If you see one of his works in person, you will quickly realize why they are so expensive.

It costs 20 dollars to go to the louvre. At least 6 million visit the Mona Lisa every year. That means the Mona Lisa is worth at least $120 mil every year. That makes it one of the most valuable resources in the world. Art is not money laundering. Sure, there are a lot of games before anybody knows what things are really worth, but real art is the prize to this whole game we're playing.

Art is not money laundering for artists. Almost all fine art made in the last 100 years is art made for other artists, not for the public. Wealthy collectors are not artists and could not give two shits about the work itself, all they care about is how much it's worth. Think of a piece of art from the point of a collector for a few minutes. Each piece is an investment in the artist's notoriety. Each piece's value can be artificially increased out of thin air by increasing the perceived value of the artist's name. An artist's notoriety increases by exhibiting in galleries. The collectors are regular customers of those galleries.

>Buy 6 pieces of little known artist's work at their first or second show in the big city for chump change
>Help fund the exhibition spaces around town and strongly suggest that they give shows to the artist you just bought
>Those 6 pieces are now worth significantly more than they were when you bought them
>Sell 5 of them for a huge profit to amateur collectors trying to get in on the game, make a "charitable donation" of the 6th to a permanent collection to get a massive tax write off that offsets the profits made from the others

It's a pay to play scheme run by a close-knit (((community))) that's tried-and-true and no one calls bullshit because it seems to benefit everyone. If it were non-Jewish white people doing it you would be all up in arms over it like the Occupy movement.

t. MFA fag that loiters at contemporary art galleries because there's a lot of fucking (((money))) in it

The flow through the image is lovely. The lady's forearm leading down to her fingers which bring you to the parrot(?). The shape of the parrot and how it perfectly covers the left side of the kid's head continues this movement down to the kid's face. His(?) downward gaze to the left side of the frame is picked up by his(?) crossed arms which finally bring you to the kid on the right whose gaze brings you out of the bottom right side. Through that flow the details you are able to stop on and notice are fantastic. The red and green pops of color are beautifully utilized (this image is included in his ~150 image book whose theme is Alex Webb's way of seeing/using color in his compositions. His compositions are meant to be read, not taken in at a glance. They are complex and worth looking at closely.

For me, the icing on the cake is the crossed arms in the window in the upper right. That completes the composition for me and fills in an area that could've been deadspace.

Here's another image from his book, The Suffering of Light, that also has a beautiful flow and use of color with so many little details to explore.

Tf 90% of the images itt feature people
Tf street photography is the most interesting photography
Tf you don't like capturing people's image without asking them + this ruins the moment
Tf your moral compass prevents you from achieving greatness

you shouldn't rationalize your fears and insecurities like that
>>
>>3223038
i agree with >>3224033. the more you rationalize it the more helpless you feel. i have pretty bad social anxiety and by simply telling myself to get over it i eventually did.

start taking pics of peoples backs, then sides, and eventually you will be able to point it right at their faces. most people wont say anything if you aren't awkward (and shy and turn away when they look at your; just own your shit) and the few that do will be satisfied with you saying something like 'oh im just an amateur photographer' or ' i was taking a picture of that building behind you'.
