Former YouTube """creator""" here.

The audience on the site is 90% children or young adults who respond to short attention span videos with clickbait titles. You can't blame creators for making dumbed down trash if that's what gets the most views. You're encouraged to check your analytics to see what's "working" and that kind of content always works.

Personally I don't find hearing people on the plaftform talk about ideas/process/technique useful, unless they have been shooting for at least 20 years.

It is not. But you are the guy not watching youtube videos because "it has only 2.4k views".

Idiot.
>>

I rather like Julia Trotti because she is a cute girl who shows you how really, actually how most indie photography with models goes. That is, it's some cute girl out with other cute girls handholding a DSLR with a big L lens mounted on it while she gives them instructions. It keeps me grounded on the idea of who is really out there shooting beautiful women in the real world. Hint: it's not pot-bellied old dudes like me.

why would anybody spend hours of their lives making content of value effectively """for free""" and to an audience of broke <18 year old kids when they could do something else like a depressing career as a professor of photography at university? at least you get paid for it consistently and don't lose your job for no reason like with Google partner programs.

I enjoy watching stuff like Thomas Heaton's vids cause they're comfy and interesting. I also enjoy Kai's videos because they're usually pretty fun but it isn't 100% goofing off either. I haven't really found any other channels that appeal to me like they do sadly

>Why are so many photography channels on youtube so fucking awful?
Supply meets demand, look at what gets the most hits: beginner tuts and gearfagging.
>>
>>3245498
>Supply meets demand
It's also because it's what these guys are only capable of. There is surely plenty of demand for more content depth, but the equilibrium rarely materializes because what these youtubers can offer cannot begin to compete with a chapter from an entry level art book.
Youtube is meant to have low barriers to entry, but this is also their weakness, low cost means low quality output.
Though I was a few times impressed by Kai's sessions with pro photogs and interviews with people like Martin Parr. Instead of playing the expert, which he is not, he consulted actual experts. However, this is more like an exception because these videos are not low cost (huge expenses on company's tab back at digitalrev, extensive networking now that he's freelance).
>>
>>3245125
The porn industry is full of disgusting pot bellied pigs shooting attractive women. Which is pretty nasty on its own. It is like working in a biohazard zone.

>There is surely plenty of demand for more content depth
no, there is not.
dig through the history of youtube and you will see dying or dead channels with in depth explanations of topics and videos longer than 10 minutes. the model youtube presents doesn't provide incentive for deep content, regardless of topics. the way most channels make money is content targeting general audience, mobile friendly, age 13-24, worldwide.

How do I make a non shitty youtube channel then?

Art of Photography used to have a good channel but has turned into a serious jew since it became his full-time job and now posts exclusively click-bait content.

negative feedback/matt day are the only other channels which are bearable. if you watch anything else and enjoy it you might be a gearfag and not someone who actually makes photographs.

Thomas Heaton is comfy too
workphlo for actually making money off your gear
aows is comfy too, but the guy has a horrible accent.

I also highly recommend this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT1Gi7Uv-UQ

the most comfy landscape video I've seen. Shame the guy never made any other videos
>>

In regards to landscapes:
Tony Santo Photography
Alan Brock

>>

heaton is a shill now too
>>
>>3246304
In order to make money from their efforts they have to shill. If they are not making money, or at least trying to, why bother doing it in the first place.

No self appointed internet 'experts' are trustworthy.

Negativefb is literally just ok. Lately his uploads just seem like hes just trying to push out a video and are uninspired. I wish his videos were longer

Analoginsights is a really good channel imo especially his behind the shoot series. He has a lot of film camera reviews also, but his other stuff is quite good
