Not /p/ approved because most of /tv/ has never heard of it nevermind /p/ but any Michael Mann movie is fantastic, this just happens to be one of his most beautiful and what would later kick off the Drive style movies and visuals of more recent years

I made a big list of visually significant films here a while ago, give me a shout if I missed any
https://letterboxd.com/dux0r/list/aesthetically-significant-or-compelling-movies/

>A beautiful well made movie is shit because they didn't kill Leonardo Decaprio with a real bear
I agree it's a major mistake but that's still retarded
>>
>>3295883
>film?
Really??? Couldn't notice with all that shitty posprocessing they had going on, and I've never had the reason of checking. I mean, you just look at that pic of your's, it could be taken straight out of 300, green screens and preposterous grading combined. It looks nothing like wildlife. I dig the story, or it would be a total write off for me, but artistically it's in the gutter.
Now for the cgi bear, and cgi horses... I admit that that really did kill it for me. You've a budget of millions and you pull that laughable effect on me? With bear moving like a fucking garfield in a cartoon? Fuck that, fuck that in it's ass. Couldn't care less if it's a pivotal scene or some random byshit as that horse, but if Walt fucking Disney somehow managed to pull a good bearfight in one of his nature films, you can bet that they could at least try to imitate the same. Fuck, just shot a bear roaring and shot a guy in a costume to hit Dicaprio on the head from some obscure angle, and it's better.
>>
>>3295913
LOL, this level of "criticism" comes off as pure jealousy. Watch the movie again, pay attention, then come back with a real argument. Or better yet, come back with something you made yourself, because the reality is that none of what you have said is a valid critique considering it is coming from some no-talent anoymous loser on a unknown chinese rice farming forum.
>>
>>3295917
Jealousy? For what? Winning Oscars? Awards are pointless, Oscars especially in the last decade. It's a lousy film, overlong, has aged badly and isn't favoured particulary at this time.

I'm completely serious. It's sound advice to someone thinking Revenant has good lightning and filmography. Heaven's Gate is total crap of a movie, but it's similarity dark western, wilderness, themed film, and it obliterated Revenan in filmography on all counts. It's not even funny how superior it is. Get a dvd somewhere, beg your dad to lend you his dvd player, and learn.

Kirsten Johnson has around the world. Rather than bore you with the details this takes unused footage from random work and shows you what she shot while on her own without the director. Some of it is labeled with the relevant film, others are left ambiguous due to rights and NDAs. It shows off how versatile you can be even when contracted for a specific style.

Shit the trip scene is so kino that someone made a fan music video for Tool using the scene; that fan use of that scene is how I found this awesome film.
